I would have given the Scepter product a zero star if I was able to do so. The Scepter ECO Spout #00006 is the most poorly designed spout that has probably ever been placed on the market. Agree that it is child proof, but it is also teen proof, adult proof and every other kind of proof one would care to name. In other words it simply does not work. The only way one can pour gasoline out of a container with this spout is to take the spout off and throw the spout away and use a funnel. There needs to be some sort of regulation to prevent companies from selling products that simply do not function. Shame on Wal-Mart for placing this item in their stores.

I need to tell you about a terrible experience tha...

I need to tell you about a terrible experience that I had with one of your products. My daughter called home telling me that she ran out of gas in her car. She was on the side of the highway in a unlit desolate area. I rushed into a local Walmart and purchased one of your 5 gallon cans that has what you call a "easy flo spout" EASY FLO??? Nothing can be further from the truth. I filled up the can and rushed to where my daughters car was stranded. Further more it was dark and raining. The instuctions on your container are dismal to say the best. Nowhere does it say to fill the can and cap off the spout so naturally I transported it with the spout in the can. Next problem is how difficult and awkward it is to use. It may work great for lawn mowers but it's terrible for automobiles. The spout is too short to clear the fuel door on the car as well as reach into the opening to insert into the filler neck and depress the lock tab. Especially when the lock tab doesnt stay locked requiring you to hold the can in postion while simultaneously holding the lock tab. Since the filler tube is too short, fuel pours out freely onto the car and on to the ground when you finally get the can into position and click the lock tab while pushing the spout into what you think is the fuel filler neck (but not really since it's too short). Finally after wrestling with this contraption (do you realize 5 gallons of gas weigh approximately 35 pounds) the flow rate is so slow that you have to spend a completely ridiculous amount of time in a dangerous situation while waiting for the can to empty (into the car and on the ground). The design meant to enhance safety makes it more dangerous than ever. Do you even test your products? Not everyone uses gas cans to fill outboards and lawn mowers. With all the "safety " regulations I can not believe this product is on the market.

DO NOT BUY

DO NOT BUY
This is the dumbest design I have ever seen. I guess the expression; Buyer Beware is true. I made the mistake of buying 2 of the 5 Gal. gasoline and what a waste of money. Nothing was wrong with the first generation of spouts. And then the manufacture said, Made in USA . If you want to state Made in USA, make it worth the money. This is crap.

Gave my husband a 1 gallon SMARTCONTROL gasoline container to sample. He had no problems filling the container. The pouring was good, no spillage or leaks. Only suggestion would be to somehow make the spout flexible. Good product

Over the last couple of years I've used, or should I say tried to use one of your gas cans. I just recently bought a new one for myself and just like the older ones, it made a mess out of me, spraying, spilling, dripping gas all over. I'll not buy another one. Scepter Manufacturing Owner needs to take note of these reviews and develop a better design. I've read reviews from a year ago concerning your defective spout and read in your reply where you have redesigned and improved it. Well your new and improved design works just like your old design. Sprays fuel all over when you click the strip to unlock it. Spills all over any thing you are trying to fill and on some vehicles is impossible to get gas to flow into the tank. This is an unsafe can and I'll empty it and get rid of it!

I purchased a 2 gallon 00002 gas can last year, in my 60 years of using various gas cans, you have figured out how to create a spout that is impossible to use for filling a lawn mower without spilling gas. AND I have tried everything I can think of other than pouring the gas into a different container before pouring it into the mower..

Now that I have found who made these ridiculous Gas cans, I will know who to suite in the event of an accident. These gas cans with these spouts are a accident waiting to happen. They waste more gas and don t work they are designed. They are more aggravation and unsafe. I had them bend on me causing Gas to spill everywhere, had one break, and some don t even seal properly. I am a paramedic and been s fireman in the past. We will soon see a accident with these gas cans. Let someone be pouring gas and these thing leak over a hot engine and the vapors catch fire. These are by no means safe at all. I know you should not be filling a hot engine. But these things are definitely not safe. Just the fact that I have wasted a lot of gas trying to use these ridiculous contraptions. Not a very good invention at all.

When the consumer has to watch a video to understand how a supposedly simple product like a gas can works, then that may be a sign that the product is over-engineered. I was given an empty Scepter gas can by a neighbor who was moving and filled it with 5 gals. of gas during a recent hurricane scare. When the storm dissipated, I chose to put the gasoline into my car. I'm a DIYer and am fairly mechanically-minded, but after screwing around with the gas can and locking ring for about 10 mins. and ending up soaked in sweat, I gave up and Googled the instructions. Once I watched the video, I understood how the product was supposed to work. Some better instructions on the gas can would've been helpful. For me personally, you've created a solution for a problem that didn't exist in the first place.

I paid $17.99 for a gas can with a "child-proof" spout that does not work for adults either! After several minutes of trying to get the gas from the can into our lawn mower, all my husband and I had accomplished was gasoline soaked hands and mower. We finally gave up and removed the spout. It actually works better this way.
Scepter Manufacturing, we are very disappointed with your product!

The 5 gallon EPA CARB Ameri-Can gas can is unsafe....

The 5 gallon EPA CARB Ameri-Can gas can is unsafe. The spout clip when pressed sprays out a violent stream of gasoline which is still contained in the spout itself even when the gas level is low in the can. I had the misfortune to experience the wrath of it last Saturday when trying to put gas in my lawnmower. Unfortunately, I was standing over the can on the ground when I pressed the clip and gas force-ably sprayed upward into my face, hair, shirt and eyes. I flushed my eyes as instructed by the poison control center which my daughter immediately called. I now have swelling of both eyeballs and 3 holes in one eyeball. At this point, my ophthalmologist & I aren't certain whether it has affected by vision or if my eyes will completely heal. I am very disappointed and appalled. Why would the EPA approve this product??? Sorry I had to post this thru maps but Scepter has no place on their website to post, complain or get assistance; except, you have to call them.....

This ridiculous gas can is singularly the worst product I've ever purchased. Usually when I buy a disappointment, I'm able to chalk it up to just getting what I paid for, but at $14 from Lowe's it's horrible. They must have the market saturated, because it's all that's offered at Home Depot and Walmart. I can say with certainty that I have spilled more gas from my two 1 gallon cans in the past two months than I have in the past 10 years using more traditional cans.
Simply put: do not buy this. You'd be better served to transport gas in a 5-gallon bucket.

I just tried calling this company regarding my Scepter USA 2 gal gas can that has folded in on both sides as if it had been crushed. It is heavy plastic and has not suffered any damage prior to me discovering it in its current un-usable condition. I did not see any warnings on the documentation that indicated this would happen. The most aggravating and disappointing thing about it is that Ive tried calling Scepter and only get a voice prompt that asks you to press 1 if you know an employees name and want to scroll through a directory for their extension so you can 'leave a message', or option 2 is to hear directions to their facility. HOW ABOUT AN OPTION TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE! HOW ABOUT YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT OR SOMEONE, ANYONE, TO ACTUALLY ANSWER YOUR PHONE! AND HERE'S A UNIQUE IDEA, HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR FOLKS TO ADDRESS QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS TOO, AND GET ANSWERS BACK!

I should have read the reviews first, live and learn. The 1 gallon fuel container is unusable. The spring loaded "safety valve" has a spring so STRONG it will likely collapse the fuel tank on my chainsaw. It's so awkward to use even if I were able to juggle the can and chainsaw at the same time. Jeez do designers USE the stuff they design? It goes back to WalMart tomorrow.

I guess I am 3 times as dumb as the rest of the people that have bought this can.
Bought 3 #00003 cans ( AB205M) To store gas for my 7500watt generator. After putting fuel stabilizer in each can and dating them, I stored them for 1 year. I then decided to use the year old fuel in my 2015 Ford F-150 so I could do the storage process again. Holy Crap! There is no way you can pour gas out of this can into a capless system on a Ford. What a poorly designed nozzle. I finally had to transfer out of your MADE IN THE USA can into an old Blitz can so I could get it in my truck. After finishing I noticed that ALL the rubber seals on the fuel nozzles were damaged and would not seal. So here I am with 3 cans that have a unique thread that will not allow any other fuel nozzle to fit on them. After reading all the 1 star reviews, I'm like most of them that I had to give 1 star to be able to write this review or otherwise would have given it a -1.

Purchased a 1 gal fuel container from WALMART and found it totally unusable. The black bar is entirely too stiff to use and will not move freely. I went on various websites to make sure I was not doing something wrong, and I was not. I went to Home Depot and bought another spout to put on this container (it was a Scepter too and I was unaware both were the same manf.) This one is different with a rotating cuff that allows the flow. While I have not yet tried it with gasoline, it works freely and should work OK. The second spout cost me more than the first container and spout. $18 for 1 gal container :( Know you face lots of fed. regs, but come on...............

i bought five D205S five gallon yellow diesel cont...

i bought five D205S five gallon yellow diesel containers with black spouts. I've had them many years, and the containers themselves are very durable. The spout has a spring-loaded flange that, when unlocked and pushed back. releases the fuel. The operational procedure is similar to the one shown in the video for the Easy Flow Spout. The spring tension is just right. When I draw the container and spout away from the filler opening, the valve in the spout shuts off instantly. The flow also stops when the tank is full--if the spout is in a vertical position. I have managed to break 4 of the 5 spouts, leaving those containers orphaned, so to speak. I hoped to get replacement spouts, but they don't appear to be available any more. One problem with this older spout is that its extension beyond the flange is not long enough. This feature has caused some spillage from time to time--but it also has functionality for filling one Hatz diesel engine tank. I also have two AB762 two-gallon gasoline containers with Easy Flow Spouts. These are as durable as the D205S product. The spouts work exactly as shown in the video. On one machine with an 8 gallon tank, I can rest the container against the filler neck and against other parts of the machine while it empties itself. When the container has completely drained, the spring, not having the weight of the full container on it to hold it open any more, automatically pushed the valve closed. I do not use them to fill chain saws or other small machines that do not have a lip. The filler openings and the tanks are too small for the spout to work. I could manage to make them work for that purpose, if I needed to. I would have to hold the spout hook with one hand and hold the container with the other. The best thing I discovered today is that the Easy Flow Spout has the same thread as the D205S containers, and they fit perfectly. So I will be ordering more Easy Flow Spouts so I can put my D205S containers back into service. The coarse threads on all these products are large and robust, making it almost impossible to cross-thread the spouts on to the containers There is a big aevantage to having continuity of design, backwards compatibilty, and interchangeabiltiy of parts. If I need more fuel containers in the future, I will be looking for Scepter products.

I just got off the phone with Courtney @ Scepter and she was pleasant, professional, and very helpful. I had the same spring problem with my old spout and she is shipping a newer model to me tomorrow. Thank you Specter and kudos to Courtney. Great customer service. Would have been 5 stars had the original spout not faltered.

Whoever invented these new nozzles should be fired! Problems..When nozzle is in plastic gas can for storage, it fills with gas. When taking nozzle out gas drips all over. If it's hot outside than this nozzle gas expands and when nozzle spring is pushed back it sprays gas all over.Who the heck tested this thing? Next..Can is designed for filling cars, try using this on lawn mowers, chainsaws..etc.Gas goes over the place because nozzle release spring is hard to press down.. These are the most dangerous gas cans I've ever used.. Workaround, Take the nozzle off and poor the gas into an open container, then poor into your product...I can't even give this product 1 star, but I have too just to post this comment....

BEWARE. DANGER. This is a horrible product and clearly unsafe. It is impossible to pour gasoline from the can into a lawn mower with out spilling a significant amount of fuel. It is just a matter of time that something horrible happens with one of these cans. Scepter will be out of business after that and maybe Lowe's too. (I bought the can at Lowes.)

This can is UNSAFE! When you are facing a disaster like a Hurricane, this is not safe to have or use.. I have had more gasoline spilled on me from these cans I bought than I ever had in my life from a normal can. I wished I could return them and get my $$$ back. I won't let my mom keep the cans as I don't need her to get hurt from them. DIdn't realize you had to get a review on something as simple as a gas can now. Spent way too much for a plastic can that is not reliable nor safe. Not even worth one star for a review just to post my review.

Surely you knew you had created a non functional spout. Oh it probably is child proof, but definitely not spill proof and since there is no venting mechanism, the consumer must hold the gasping, dripping, product for several minutes to fill any tank larger than 2 gallons as it spews a few ounces of gasoline in between gasps.

This is my first gas can rating ever. I've purchased three of these Ameri-Cans and they seem to work better than other more expensive cans I've had. No gas can seems to be completely leak proof at the spout but I've found that with these you need to make sure that the rubber gasket is in the right place, that you've threaded the cap properly and that you don't put all the weight on the nozzle when you fill your tank. You also have to make sure that their black release is at the bottom.
The only real problem I've had is the rubber sealing gasket which I've broken on one of my cans. I'm calling the company to see about getting a replacement.

Our Bureaucrats in Washington mandated these safety features. Optimistically they all have 3 Hands and enjoy these features. Over a 100 years of a normal pour spout was hazardous to our health!!!! Try this one, gas spilled all over.

Who was the brilliant engineer who developed the nozzle? They even have a video about using the nozzle on youtube. I believe in our companies, especially products manufactured in the U.S.A., but this nozzle feature is a blunder. I'm disappointed with the purchase of this product at Walmart, but it was only $9.00 so I'll take a loss and move on. I feel as if they wasted resources on R&D with the notion this nozzle was the best thing since slice bread. I have 17 trees to cut down in my yard tomorrow and it looks like I'm going to ACE hardware in the morning for a gas can and nozzle that isn't cheesy. I can't believe a nozzle from a gas can has me so frustrated! Hope this company can rebound from a horrible and frustrating manufactured nozzle! Oh well, God Bless this company!

I bought the gas can from scepter and the pour spout is a perfect example of frustration and poor engineering/design. I don't know if it is the fault of the manufacturer or some misguided govt. regulations, no doubt from some place like DC or California. Anyway never again - this pour spout is inherently difficult to use and more prone to error, explosions and/or fire than anything I have had to deal with in years.

Item: Part #00004 - D205M 5 gallon EPA CARB Ameri-Can Diesel Can

RATING - A "DO NOT BUY OR EVEN TAKE ONE FOR FREE". I should have researched before buying one.

Bought one of these at Walmart and it is the WORST product ever! In fairness its the CARB compliant design but it's so bad I would not have had the guts to make one. I'm trying to figure out how to get my money back but if they've had fuel in them most stores will not take them back.

1. The nozzle is to short and straight to get an angle steep and close enough to the filler hole on my 2017 Chevrolet Colorado all while manually trying to depress the filler nozzle sliding plug lock so that when you push the nozzle into the gas tank opening to get anything out. Remember, you are holding a 5 gallon fuel can with one hand while trying to get everything to work with the other - it's insanely stupid
2. IF you can barely get it to work the flow rate is ridiculously small and there is no apparent built in breather so you get constant interrupted flow issues while air tries to get back into the can which makes the pitiful flow almost unbearable. Remember, still holding 5 gallons of fuel trickling out glug, glug, in-burp, glug...
3. With all the above you end up dripping fuel all over the place! It may be CARB compliant in design however for practicality its a failure.

Lastly - I ended up removing the nozzle and pouring the fuel into a military style 'Jerry can' that worked without fail and I did not lose one drop of fuel (no kidding here - not one drop)

I purchased a 5.5 gallon can from Walmart. I should have checked it over since it had obviously been disassembled and actually had the dust cap removed which Scepter replaced with a quick phone call. Anyway, the can works great! I like the fact that it takes an intentional effort to engage and dispense fuel. I use it in my boat to fill another tank and have never had a spill or leak (until I over-tightened the nozzle tearing the gasket) Which brings me to my second point, Cheryl from Scepter is sending me a replacement free of charge! Great customer service and a great product. Just don't crank down on the gasket.Just enough to make a seal.
