Here is an update on the pro video section at Precision Camera....it's alive and well! Very knowledgeable staff (as always), excellent pro video equipment, and prices that match the internet. I been doing business with Precision Camera for years and they have always been incredible. So I just bought a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and the Metabones Speedbooster for Nikon G mounts. The Speedbooster is a must for the Blackmagic 2.5K and the Pocket Cinema. (yes they do have a pro video department now with knowledgeable staff) When I got home the Speedbooster would not fit. It was too tight. This was has been a problem with some Speedboosters. Next day in the store Ross and Park worked with me as we tried a regular MFT lens then an Ef Speedbooster to make sure it was not the camera they worked just fine luckily they had another Nilon G Speedbooster and that worked as designed. They kept the too tight Speedbooster and I left with the working one. My issue was addressed quickly with patience and good humor Whenever I ve had an issue (which is rare but problems do happen every now and then) they have responded just like this time . I recommend them highly!

I love this store. It is unique in all that it does from selling you a camera and equipment to giving classes on how to use them and how to be a better photographer. They truly invest in all there customers and do all they can to help you succeed.

Precision Camera is incredible. Service, products and PRICE! They beat Beach and all the other guys hands down. Even small purchases are treated great. I will do business with them whenever I need photo or video gear.

Great selection of gear if you need something last second. Unfortunately the sales people are a little pushy and only slightly more knowledgeable than electronic store employees. Got argumentative when I didn't want to buy a $100 lens filter that does nothing better than any other filter or an extended warranty (focused on selling overpriced items vs making recommendations that were useful). Prices are also a little high on used gear. I have heard good things about them arranging events and getting involved with the local community, but I have not seen any of that first hand. They get stars for selection, but they still did not have everything we were looking for.

I hate to be the bearer of negativity, but I simply couldn't pass up leaving a review for this place.

I'm new to Austin this year, and have started to visit all of the camera stores here to make sure that I start going to the one that fits me best. I'm not quite ready to develop film on my own yet, so I've been taking the film that I need developed to different stores to just try each out. I took 4 rolls of 35mm film here to be developed (3 rolls of Superia 400 and a roll of Velvia 50). While discussing with the person working as the cashier, it felt as if he wasn't well educated on the topic of film whatsoever, wasn't thorough in explaining the different quality of scans that Precision did, and it honestly felt that he wasn't even fully there while conversing with him. I didn't feel really comfortable sending rolls of film off that I needed developed in a specific way with someone who didn't seem to know film at all in the first place, and my fear only grew.
I come from Dallas, and we have someone with a lab that develops slide film in house, so I was accustomed to that process and assumed that a place as big and accredited as precision would do the same. I received a phone call about an hour later, right before precision's closing time and after I had gotten home (40 minutes away), as the cashier failed to recognize that I shot on slide film and failed to tell me that the return time on the scans would be 3-4 weeks.
To be a first time customer here, it didn't feel like my needs were met, and it doesn't feel like I was fully informed of the Precision's processes and methods of operation. I ended up taking back my film and doing business elsewhere, where the employees that I discuss with know as much about film as one who runs the operation should. Not happy with my experience at all. Will not be returning.

To justify my credibility in saying all that I've had to say, I've shot digital for 6 years now and am just now starting to focus on analog within the past year, so I have had my fair share of experience with camera stores throughout the years, and have had much better experience elsewhere.

Such knowledgeable, experienced, helpful staff. I'd much rather buy here (and support a local business where you can explore hands-on) than online. Great selection of new and used equipment, digital, video, frames, printers, etc. I couldn't be a happier customer.

Best camera store in South Texas. I drive from San Antonio to buy gear here. Our local store is horrible.
This place has accurate prices, abundant supply of everything you could need and a knowledgeable non-snobby staff.
They do take a minute or two to help you, but when they get to you they're sole purpose is to solve your needs.

Great local shop with national reputation. Fairly competitive prices even vs the online giants - I ve bought both cameras and lenses from them over the years. Staff has expertise and a passion for the subject. And their classes and workshops are great learning experiences.

The slowest staff you ll ever meet! It took us over one hour to buy Fujifilm Instax film... an item that is readily accessible at basically each check out counter... I had a work order form that was sent from the location in Southpark Meadows and when I brought the receipt with me to fulfill the order, every staff member kept referring me to someone else. No one knew what to do in getting me an item that was purchased at a different location to be picked up here at Anderson Ln. come here with time because you ll be here for a while... there is also no point in giving me a ticket number to be seen when they were never calling out the numbers. All in all not great customer service. :(

Dropped an antique camera off for repair - which they accomplished in 2 weeks. But then when I picked it up the (somewhat now rare) mercury battery was missing. I returned to ask about it and was told they didn t have it. Disappointed with what was otherwise a fine transaction.

I was looking to restore a photo of my partner and his mom who has since passed for Valentine's day and emailed the photo lab from the email on the website for more details, but unfortunately received no response back. I called and left a message for the photo lab because no one was available to take my call, but received no call back. I am pregnant and trying to avoid physically visiting any places due to COVID risks, but since I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone, I had to go in. I spoke with someone at the photo lab about what I wanted, color restoration, removal of scratches, and the removal of some cut-off hands. I wasn't given any information, everything I discussed, I had to ask for. She told me the price, had me send my photo, and pay. I had to even walk back to get an ETA which she said would be 2 weeks which was only a few days after Valentine's day which was fine. She did not provide any documentation or even a receipt to me. Two weeks later, I received an email and a phone call stating that they either lost or did not have my original photo and asked me to email it to them, which I immediately did. I received no confirmation that it was received or anything at all. I called and again left a message for the photo lab that was not returned along with an email that was also not returned. I ended up emailing the manager of the photo lab and again did not receive any response. I forwarded that email again, this time attaching the store manager and finally received a response from the photo lab manager (not store manager). I received the photo back without the color correction, and sent another email stating that I had requested this when I paid, and was basically told that I didn't pay enough for that part of the service, even though I was told that was what I was receiving. We emailed a few times back and forth with several days between emails, often me sending another email before I got a response, all including the store manager, with no resolution. The last email that I received a response from was one week ago which I have sent 3 follow-up emails, left several messages with the photo lab, and a message with the store manager. I have not physically gone into the location because every time I call I am told that neither the store manager or photo lab manager is in and they do not know when they will be in the store. This has been over a month at this point and my experience from start-to-finish has been pretty bad. I would not recommend this store for this service to anyone.

Prices as good as online and you can have it now. Awesome variety of equipment and plenty of experts to help with any question. Just took my first class from them and it was a blast. I plan to take more.

I purchased a used Nikon 35mm F1.8 lens (EX) from Precision and in my opinion, it exceeded the EX grade. It was more EX+. I could not find a mark on it and the glass is crystal clear. The photos were sharp and the auto focus works great.
To top it off, I got next day delivery.

Horrible customer service! Hey salesperson behind the counter, if a person walks up they're usually looking for a hello and some help. I'll buy my equipment elsewhere.

Update: I want to update my review slightly. Since the first review, I have been into Precision a few times to buy equipment. My recent ventures to the store have been better than the first. But, I haven't seen the initial salesperson and it doesn't excuse his actions.

So to be fair. I'm changing my rating from 1 Star to 4 Star.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff! Excellent selection of everything a Photographer could need! I took a couple of classes here to and the instructors were fun and again, super knowledgeable and helpful. They have a ton of classes and I'll definitely be taking more. Love my new camera as well! I'm a beginner and they didn't try to oversell me.

Regardless of how you want to capture your masterpiece, Precision Camera can help you achieve perfection. They have a friendly and knowledgeable staff that really goes the extra mile. I am not a camera expert, but I they made me feel comfortable and patiently answered all of my questions.

What is there not to love about all of the gadgets and gear here.. they are the certified experts that can get you what you need used or new... they also offer classes here if you buy a new camera.

They have everything you need from drones to pocket portable cameras...boom mics to photo drink coaster souvenirs.

Went in and guy at the counter was very pretentious and condescending about their products (despite me and my partner owning a production company and having a similar amount of knowledge.) Then when looking at rigging, two employees followed us to make sure we were not stealing despite not being suspicious and actively being engaging with each other about products we'd like to buy along with any employee we spoke to.
Very disrespectful and beyond disappointed at how the employees conducted themselves. Will be taking my business elsewhere.

I love shopping at Precision. All of the sales reps are friendly and knowledgeable, and really try to understand your needs to help select the right gear. Sure beat talking to my computer! I also love the variety of classes and seminars available at Precision Camera University to help better my photo chops.

If you're any kind of techno geek, you will enjoy this place. Every camera and gadget is available here including knowledgeable and friendly staff.

They host several events and offer classes. Lots of high end equipment if you can afford it.

Lose yourself in aisles of gadgetry.

They have had almost everything I have ever needed for my cameras here. There have been a few times where I was let down, but for most general purposes if you needed it they probably got it. The service is fantastic, and there is also a student discount if you have your student ID with you. Prices can be a little bit high sometimes.

The only good camera store I've been to in Austin. They price match online and even have a good selection of used equipment. The sales people are kind of hit or miss, some want to help, some don't want to be there.

Precision is the last true Mecca of photo gear. It's the only place that could keep me from shopping online. I'm absolutely addicted. Excellent customer service. One stop shop. Austin original.

Precision Camera has never had amazing service, but I've been going for years to develop film and it has always been developed and scanned well.

I decided to buy a used dslr for every day use. I went in on Saturday to pick one out, spent an hour there, and their terminal system was down. I put it on hold and came back the following day to pick it up. Inconvenient but I wasn't upset about it, things happen.

The sales associate who helped me the next day was extremely rude and short with me, not listening to what I was explaining about the previous day. She had to try and locate my held camera for ten minutes. Eventually she came back with the model of the dslr I had on hold as well as a battery charger. Since it was also with an on hold slip I (wrongly) assumed it was the one I placed on hold.

I paid, left, and when I arrived home a few hours later I opened up the battery compartment and there was no battery. The day before, in the model I had picked out, there was a battery. I asked if I would receive the battery. I was told I would.

So not only did she end up knowingly giving me the incorrect on hold item, but she didn't check to ensure everything was there, and gave me a battery charger for...? Apparently not a battery.

Precision Camera operates with little to no integrity and won't be getting another cent from me. They're fine for a one-off purchase, but I highly suggest staying away unless they are your only option.

As a entry level enthusiast, I went in to purchase my first real camera. Celisse helped me pick out a mirrorless camera which would keep me entertained for a while. Unfortunately, I went in around closing time. When I went in the next day Ron took over where Celisse left of and I ended up making my purchase. The customer service here is incredible because they aren t just selling a piece of equipment, they are ensuring you get everything you need for a lifestyle. I will only go here for all of my camera needs from now on!

I really wanted to shop locally. But if you can t help me with the small stuff, I won t expect you ll help me with the large ticket items. Had to place my order online. Pity. 2 stars for customer service.

Even though they have obviously a very broad selection of camera gear and the staff is generally friendly, I find that their knowledge on scanners, printers, and paper to be exceptionally lacking. I asked about printer profiling and the response I got was "What?" I asked about their return policy because I am trying to figure out which of two scanners works best for my needs, and their response was "We do not accept returns." When I asked about printing on watercolor papers, nobody had a clue. I started to ask several more advanced questions and was met with blank stares and absolutely zero curiosity to know what I was asking about, in spite of the fact I have worked in print and design for 20 years and yes, I do actually know what I am talking about.

I prefer to shop locally and was prepared to spend about $500 today on scanner, software, and paper in spite of the fact everything I needed was cheaper online. But with Precision not even having a return policy, I will have to make my purchase from an online store that at least will let me return the scanner if it turns out to be a useless brick. I have a very particular type of need for my scanner that isn't something you can test without trying it out first, and I have NO desire to potentially flush $200 down the toilet. I would even buy a more expensive scanner if the first two won't work. I was VERY happy to give Precision Camera my money if they'd let me actually figure out what scanner works best for my needs. Oh well.

How can you be a photography store and not know anything about printer profiling???? Boggled. If you sell printers and scanners and paper, you really should know your products better. Scanners are about more than DPI, and I am pretty sure nobody knew what I was talking about when I brought up dot gain.

Thank you Robert Backman for your excellent advice and support after the sale. I ordered and bought a Rode i-XLR digital adapter, then drove to Austin to pick it up and you had it waiting for me - in and out in about 2 minutes. I'm extremely pleased with the adapter. I think it will bring a significant improvement to the audio quality in the live streaming of our Masses. Again, thank you Robert Backman for the excellent advice, help and support.

Shhhhh. Don't tell my husband I bought him a beautiful Nikon camera for his birthday with a few accessories. We're celebrating Sunday with daughter and grandsons. Brian was so very helpful. We'll be back to add other items I'm sure.

Their photo processing service does not live up to...

Their photo processing service does not live up to expectations. I put in a simple order to print 5-6 old family photos. After 3 tries they still haven't gotten right! First time, I was handed an envelop with my originals (thank God) but NO prints. Since they charge upfront, I asked them to correct the problem. Second time... I get the prints but they're not black/white as ordered. Third time, I get prints, still NOT black and white as ordered! I also want to make a note here... Before moving to Austin, I would use a small local photoshop, with much less store-front than Precision Camera, and they would not just scan and print, but also color-correct and photoshop small imperfections such as a wrinkle on a corner, etc, for the same price! For more extensive work , they would explain what they could do and the cost. They would also explain what you could expect as far as the image, which helped in making a decision to spend the extra cost or not. Precision Camera photoshop personnel has never offered me any similar service (maybe they don't offer it, I don't know). Other than getting to chose a finish (glossy, etc), I really don't see much advantage in driving all the way for Precision Camera's photoprinting service. I gave a rating of 2 stars because the store has a large variety of specialty products for photographers.

I ve been a customer of Precision for about 20 years. Bought my first DSLR there, had repairs over the years, bought way too much gear And I have always pretty much liked the store. But the experience changed for the better once I met one of their staff Tamra Green. I can t begin to list the ways she has helped me, advised me, taught me and guides me to buy just what I needed. She is the closest thing to concierge service ever. I won t ever work with any other person there. She s da bomb!

When I broke my camera a few days ago at a session, I truly didn t know what to do next. I brought my camera in to the south location to discuss options and Devron was an absolute saint! He helped me pick out a new kit that fit all my needs and more (including budget!) and was able to navigate my trade in seamlessly. Once again, Precision proves to be in the best in town!

Best brick & mortar camera store I've ever been to. Not quite Mecca (or B&H), and while I still make most purchases online, I'm delighted every time I get the chance to stop in.

They have a little bit (sometimes a lot) of everything, and it's nice to physically handle gear before buying. Finally, their 2nd hand equipment is also worth checking out (but or sell).

Photography equipment is one of the things that you really need to be able to hold in your hands, try, get a feel for, before you buy. Precision Camera has a great inventory, friendly and helpful staff, and prices that usually match the online price. I seem to be traveling there from Dallas at least once a year for something that they have in stock that I can't find closer to home.

And their classes are excellent, not just for the beginner but they also have classes and opportunities led by well known photographers for the more advanced people in your favorite niche. I've gotten some great photos of raptors and flowers from a couple classes they set up.

I have to point out how incredibly helpful Frank was/is. I recently came in because I saw a 100 mm f2 for sale online. Me being impulsive, I went to the store to buy that lens. Frank searched for it but had no luck finding it. But after telling him the lenses I currently own that 100mm he told me it wouldn't make much of a difference if I bought it. Instead he showed me some other items and mentioned my dream lens (135mm) I tested it out and fell in love with it. As tempted as I was to apply for credit to purchase it, he advised me not to. You have to appreciate someone that wont just sell you something to sell it. He's awesome for that! I'm alright with holding off putting that on credit and just buy it when I can. I just wanted to point out such great customer service!

I have bought the vast majority of my Pro Nikon gear: bodies and lenses at Precision Camera and will continue to do so. The knowledge and help of their staff far outweighs any discount I could obtain online and they have a great return policy. They are always willing to help with ANY camera issue or accessory need. I still use many online sites but for my major needs in Camera gear I will continue to use Precision. And having been to over dozen "high tech" camera stores in the US and the UK I can attest that Precision Camera is far and ahead the BEST. Need a special lens, even just to rent for a few days - or another flagship body they will come through. And access to non-employee experts for classes or one-on-one help - they will coordinate it.

My husband and I entered Precision extremely excited to check out this store. We planned on spending a decent amount of money for a tripod. We stood in line to check out and the first thing the cashier said to us was "Over here. Yeah, I'll take your money!" He proceeded to act arrogant towards us, and then tell us he's broken the exact same tripod we bought several times. So then we are thinking "Oh, so this $300+ tripod breaks easily?" His response was "Oh I break everything, though." Ok...? Then he proceeds to tell us his wife called and said she made spaghetti and that's all he can think about right now. He obviously didn't want to be there and only could think about going home. Not sure what his name was, but he was bald-ish and heavy-set. Extremely rude character working here.

When we got home, the tripod wasn't functioning right. The platform would not hold our camera straight. Seems like there's a bolt or piece missing. We checked the package and there weren't any extra pieces. We will be taking this product back and most likely never shopping there again. This cashier should be thoroughly trained on customer service. As a rule, if you have customers spending hundred of dollars on your products, you should treat them with respect if you want them to keep coming back and refer others.

I ve frequented Precision s since the 90 s. Consistently honest, knowledgeable, and fair prices. Camera repairs have always been right the first time. I ve bought full camera camera set ups for the field countless times. I now live abroad, but when I return I make sure to check out their new, improved, and larger location. So impressive.

Store has a lot of great stuff but the guy at the register was a total idiot. He had no idea how to bypass a PIN for a visa debit/credit card, leaving me stranded without a method of payment after a 30 min drive out. There was no manager available. So he said.

Precision Camera is the best photography and video, printing and creative education source I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Its a shame I don't live in Austin anymore as my weekly trip to look around and talk with their staff has been limited to only when I visit from Dallas, but their website, their operation and their services are the top of the top. If you ever get the chance to stop by, I highly recommend it for anyone who loves photography, new and old tech and their most valuable offering in my opinion is the classes and hands on workshops they offer ALL THE TIME. Thanks Precision Camera. - Bryan

I haven't personally been to this shop but did send in my Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 lens to them recently. Olympus contracts out their repairs to Precision Camera, so this is where it ended up going for my warranty repair.

I contacted Olympus' support and notified them about my lens being very noisy during video recording when it is auto focusing. Many other people online have experienced this same issue but Olympus doesn't recognize it as a problem. I was a bit worried that I'd just send my lens in and it would get sent back stating that there is no problem. However, Precision Camera ended up making it right by sending me back another lens. It's the same model, but different serial number. The lens that they sent me works great and records video very quietly. I'm unable to determine if the lens they sent is new, refurbished or used, but looks new to me.

The turnaround time took 7 days, from the time they received it to the time they shipped out a replacement. This is the first time I've ever sent in camera equipment for repair so I don't have anyone else to benchmark the turnaround time against, but I'm satisfied.

They must be doing something right if a company like Olympus is trusting Precision Camera to represent them as their repair specialists.

Bit more expensive than online retailers which is to be expected, they do price match on camera though. The staff is helpful but don't hover, and the techs are very knowledgeable. Just had AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT PHOTOS taken there for my young daughter and myself (after failed attempts at home and by local pharmacy). I went to Precision on the recommendation of a friend, who told me the staff would be able to help me find a good camera for my needs. Unfortunately, the customer service I experienced there today was awful. The guy I spoke to didn't seem at all interested in being helpful. He kept cutting me off and trying to rush the conversation, and he was openly rude and sarcastic whenever I'd ask a question or respond to one of his. I'd rather take my chances with an online retailer than have to deal with someone like that again.

I have been a customer of Precision Camera for almost 40 years. I have rarely been disappointed with any of the staff, their knowledge and/or willingness to help you. Only once was I upset with an individual who tried to persuade me that I didn't want to buy what I came in for. I wrote the manager, who apologized and put me in touch with Tamra. She is wonderful! She will ask you what you want to shoot, or type of photography you are interested in, offer a range of possibilities and provide pros and cons of those choices. I understand she works between both of the stores. I'd encourage anyone to ask for her help with camera equipment. It's a wonderful store with many great employees. One year I wanted to do some night photography and didn't know what lens to buy, couldn't afford what I thought I needed. She searched around and found a the perfect used lens that I have loved using for stars photography since.
