Pioneer State Mutual Insurance Company Review

Worst insurance company period. They dropped our insurance policy because my older son had prior convictions. He has to misdemeanor marijuana convictions from a number of years ago. (He had a rough time coping with finding his real Father dead on the floor at the age of 13). He is now living at our house and trying to right the ship. My insurance agent called me to inform me that he has to move out and i have to have proof that he has moved out for them to continue my policy. i explained that he doesn't drive our cars. That he doesn't drive anything because of an suspended license. They didn't care. So if you child is making an effort to make his life better after a mistake that he made in the past, it doesn't matter, you have to turn your back on your child to keep your insurance. Pioneer insurance company is the worst insurance company. They have no family values and are not family oriented. Terrible company and terrible experience.

Other auto insurance companies are giving refunds do to say at home order because we can't drive anywhere like we use to, why aren't you offering the same???????

Pioneer State Mutual consistently goes above and beyond in the community. They are strong advocates for the well-being of children and partner with a variety of children focused agencies to ensure that they can continue to provide services to at-risk children. Since I started at Whaley Children's Center they have sponsored events, participated in our annual child abuse prevention campaign, Paint Our Town Blue and helped to make our Center a great place to call home. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff at Pioneer State Mutual. They are an AMAZING group of loving individuals!

Been with them for years and today I had quite the unpleasant experience . It was the 1st time I ever had to use the roadside assistance that I pay extra for and it took 4 hours..yep not even kidding. First call was at 4:05 & I was told 30 to 45 mins and after an hour I called back and they said 30 more mins. Finally the tow truck co. called & said there was an accident and it would be about 45 more mins. called roadside again and they said just 30 more mins. I don't know why I'm paying so much either I have an impecable driving record and no tickets or accidents in well over a quarter of a century, hence my age should factor in as well, it does at other companies. I also was double debited on two different occassions one of which put my acct in the negative and messed up my whole budget that month. I'm getting a new car next week &I'll give them 1 more chance & see what their offer is on this vehicle, fingers crossed

We have been insured with Pioneer for several years for both our home and auto's. The few claims we've had have been handled quickly and fairly. We especially like the mobile app and access it provides to roadside assistance and our certificates of insurance.

I have been insured with Pioneer for over 5 years and have found their rates to be highly competitive. I have also had a few claims and their claim service is top quality. No issues ever!

I had an automobile claim with Pioneer and they went above and beyond to handle the claim. They were very responsive and when they totaled my vehicle I didn't have to fight with them on the settlement.

We recieved a call back almost immediately & given our adjusters name, so we could identify her when she called. We were told the adjuster would be calling within 24 - 48 hours. Julie called within hours & had us set up with our appt. We had a big mess. She arrived promptly, was professional, sympathetic & proficient. She answered and explained things we didn't understand. Pioneer has been a quality insurer I have used for years! The employees are always very nice and informative whether I have billing questions or potential claims questions. They are very good at explaining the policy language as is my agency, Emil Rummel.

Slow response to storm damage. Authorized emergency services on the phone then refused to pay for them. Then refused to pay for roof damages after THEIR Engineer found a way to diqualify the roof stating home that was purchased had a roof defect (a fine print clause to be aware of).

I had a great experience with the claim that I recently went through. The adjuster was very responsive and answered all of my questions. The claim was also paid out very quickly. I highly recommend this company!

When I sign my cancellation the lady said i have no payments left but later a mouth I got payments of $150 and when I talk to mike I asking questions he just hang on me. Worst company ever they trick us left with $150 payments

Hubby and I have never had to call our homeowners insurance company for anything in our 50 years together so when we had a terrible fire we did not know what we were supposed to do. Thank God we had Pioneer State Mutual! When we called, our adjuster Marisa was there immediately! We were so overwhelmed but she put our minds at ease very quickly. Marisa walked us through every step of the way and was always available immediately for any questions or concerns. We never want to go through an experience like this fire ever again but just to know Pioneer State Mutual and Marisa are in our corner we know our minds can be at ease always. They are the cheapest quote I received and have had insurance over a year w/them and checked for cheaper quotes a month ago and no other Insurance company is even close to being less than I'm paying here!!!!

Horrible company, I had a 88 year old patient who totaled his vehicle, sustained lower back and neck pain and filed a claim with this company for treatment. They dismissed his claim as preexisting and refused to pay for any of his therapy. Stay away from this company!!

The customer service is horrible,can t never get thru a call but when you do the agent have s a attitude and if you re two days late on the payment they threaten you to cancel your policy they don t try to help you at all sick and tired of this company can t wait to get of them

Pioneer is so easy to work with. Their customer service was always able to answer questions, plus they have a great mobile app for their customers to be able to print ID cards, copies of policies, pay bills; you can even request policy changes if you log in online! It makes doing business with them easy, when I don't always have time to call my agent during the day.

I worked with Pioneer professionally as well, and they were always great to work with. I don't currently work with them, but kept my insurance through them - that shows just how great they are!

I would definitely recommend going through Pioneer for any insurance needs! And they are Michigan based company!!

I have been very impressed was pioneer since I first signed up. The many times I locked myself out of my car and called them got help right away and even a follow-up call to make sure I was happy with the service I received.
I was in a horrific car accident got hit by a drunk driver L. Hoover is my case manager she did an awesome job and is still doing so as I am covered for my medical what is related to this accident. They have done a wonderful job with my care and I would highly recommend them as an insurance company you can trust.

Got into an accident a few months ago, and still fighting to get my car fixed correctly. I pay so much money to have car insurance, but when it comes to making a claim, they don t want to have anything to do with it. Adjuster told my body shop to put cheap parts on and to get the car out of his hair. Definitely not a good insurance company.

We can t say enough about Pioneer and our Claims Adjuster, Marisa! Marisa was so friendly and handled our claim in a timely and fair and very professional manor. Having a fire loss is not fun but the way Pioneer handled our claim made it a little easier to deal with. We have been a Pioneer customer for years and plan on being a customer for life! Thank you!

I am an agent in an Independent Insurance Agency and we sell Pioneer State Mutual insurance products ranging from home, auto and commercial. We work with 6 other insurance companies in our office and we have found Pioneer to go above and beyond to service, help and offer direction for us as well as our clients.

My payment was missed due to my debit card being stolen. What could have been an easy fix to the account ended my multi-year relationship with them because of the lack of professionalism in their billing department. I was not only treated rudely but they kept getting in their own way making it difficult for me to give them the money they were asking for. I would avoid doing business with this company.

They took money off our card after we cancelled our insurance and still haven't returned it. They are thieves and no one should ever do business with them!

Our experience with Pioneer State as we worked through the loss of the Sanford dam break could not have been better. Our contact, Kevin Wheeler, was outstanding in his professionalism, knowledge and clear communication. He made what was an overwhelming task to us flow smoothly and expediently. We give Pioneer State a 5-star rating.

We recently had a claim. Very prompt and caring adjusters.
We reported it through the mobile app and the adjuster for the vehicle called less than an hour later. We had some injuries and that adjuster called about an hour after that. Our vehicle was inspected and the total loss settled by the end of business the next day.

If you are looking at PSMIC for home and auto coverage, I highly suggest looking at other insurance options. While they were cheaper than our previous insurance company, we made a huge mistake in switching. Over the summer we were hit with a storm, which caused extensive damage to our home and other property. Sadly, we had a terrible experience with our PSMIC claim and the insurance adjuster was very unprofessional. We received less than a quarter of what we needed to repair our home and to replace damaged property. The adjuster didn't even take the time to explain where or how he came up with replacement values against actual replacement cost. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for coverage.

As an update, PSMIC asked me to submit my claim or policy number to their social media email account due to my review above. They have since removed their request in what appears to be some sort of retaliation to my review. This is just additional justification for anyone considering PSMIC to look elsewhere.

I have always had great communication with my contact at Pioneer. Ms. Cummings is a professional, easy to work with adjuster who keeps the customer updated regularly.

I have personally had Pioneer State Mutual for my Home and Auto insurance for the last 5+ years. I have always had great and friendly service from them. I would recommend Pioneer to everyone.

I have been a customer for 1.5 years. PSMIC denied our claim for storm damage to roof (hail). I'm no roof expert so I don't know to what extent the roof was damaged. But I do know that of the 18 houses closest to mine in my subdivision 16 have had their roofs replaced due to hail damage. Every major insurance carrier approved claims from the same storm.

That's enough for me...I don't need the added worry of whether my insurance carrier pays claims - defeats the whole purpose of insurance. PSMIC had attractive premiums but the old adage that you get what you pay for applies to my experience with PSMIC.

Horrible Insurance Company. Was a five-year customer up until one claim filed and then they decided to cancel my policy. They denied my claim even though it clearly stated in my insurance that I had the protection necessary. Be careful because they will do the same to anyone else who is thinking of using them as their insurance company.

A scam insurance co. I had to hire an attorney and threaten court on a claim. I prevailed but what I went thru was unjustified. Poorly informed so called agents and a jerk of an adjuster. He talked over me, accused me of lying and would not back down until legal was in the mix. I had the last word, thankfully! Run to a different agency!!!

We have been with Eastman insurance who go through about 10 insurance companies . Pioneer being one of them. So off and on we ve had pioneer for well over 15yrs. Most recent is over 5yrs.
We just received our car insurance bill. It went up $300.00 a year due to mainly pioneer hiking up the price. $50 more every other month. Bad enough we pay $1500 a year for plpd. Now we have to pay $1871 for plpd. With no accidents or claims. The only thing we are at fault is paying the bill late a few times. What do you expect for a single family income. We still paid the $20 late fee. Explain your hikes pioneer? Because I ve already called two other car insurance companies and they have you beat by $250.00 along with home owners insurance. I ll give you a chance to match the other insurance companies or we will take business elsewhere....

A great company with amazing prices. They are great to work with and provide excellent service!

This was THE worst insurance company I ever dealt with. I never had so many issues and had my insurance cancelled on two separate occasions by them and without my knowledge or consent. The first situation was kinda my fault I cancelled my autopay for that month and it kinda slipped my mine because I had so much going on but I am use to my previous insurers contacting me to say hey you missed your payment for this month and I just pay it. Not with Pioneer they just cancel your insurance. The second time I had just gotten back set up with them from my insurance being cancelled before and I had another company for 6 months then my broker said Pioneer had the best rate after me having insurance for 6 months months continously because I usually just keep it on auto. So I got setup sent the necessary paperwork over got my payments set up etc. They took the 1st payment then I received a certified letter not long after so I contacted them about the letter because I live in a kind of country rural area and the mailboxes are down the road and I was unable to make it to pick the letter up. I contacted their offices and left a message about the letter and they never contacted me back the next letter I recieved was a check from them cancelling my insurance no email, no phone or anything they just cancelled it and had me out here driving with no insurance and I had no idea. The broker didn't even know that it had been cancelled or the reason why. You just don't do people like that it's bad business thank God nothing happened during the time my insurance lapsed. I told my broker I never want to work with them again and I suggest you don't either. I have never been without insurance prior to me dealing with them.

I love Pioneer Insurance and they have fantastic rates!!! My claim was handled professionally and fast.

I have been a Pioneer customer for many years. I started to panic a little bit a year ago when my 15 year old was getting ready to turn 16 and start driving, YIKES. Plus I had to add him to my insurance, DOUBLE YIKES. Pioneer had competitive rates and I was able to add him to my policy without having to give up my first born (my child is lucky since he is the first born). Also, I've (unfortunately) had a homeowners claim as well as an auto claim with Pioneer and they were both handled flawlessly. The claims adjusters for each claim were professional and courteous and handled the claim quickly. Great job Pioneer. Thank you.

I have been a Pioneer customer since 2005, I cant say enough about this company and it's employees!!! They are best, always helpful and knowledgeable.

7/21/20 EDIT: Same issue as before arrises. I will be asking for the agents name from now on and taking my complaint up specifically for those individuals. They do not train their customer service agents to be kind or respectful. ORIGINAL: I ve called their customer service agents many times asking very basic and simple questions and they always act as though I ve put them out of their way and that it s an extreme inconvenience to them to do their job. Either these people hate their jobs or their lives....

I've been a client of Pioneer State Mutual for 5 years now and yes I've had a claim or two which is why you buy insurance. The claims staff was great to work with and got me back on the road quickly. A great experience.

Seriously the worst insurance company I ve ever dealt with. They give you no notice when they come out to inspect your property, or you will receive the notice two weeks after they ve already been there. They will cancel you without even giving you a courtesy call even though my house passed VA inspections due to something completely out of my control like the underwriting process. Who ever reads this remember these people take your money, in a way they work for you to keep you as a customer. Definitely take your business elsewhere. Lots better home insurance companies out there. I took them as a recommendation from my uncle and me and my 5 family members whom are property owners will be taking our business elsewhere.

Over the last 19 years (after Allstate's 'good hands' refused to insure our newly bought modular home); my agent Jackie @ Hinkle Witbeck in Reed Ciry found Pioneer State Mutual! I couldn't be more happy with their services! After every accident (3 not at fault collisions) ... they are so quick to respond! Last Monday (November 23) ... after a horrific accident @ 11 am ... yesterday; I got the call on the settlement! On a holiday short week last week ... what OTHER company would be attentively that quick! Too bad one cannot determine the REAL amount of *s one wants to give!

They will take your money send a contractor out to say it's not covered the claim adjuster will not even come out to look at damages.

Pioneer is an amazing insurance carrier to work with. Personally my home and auto have been insured with them for many years. They are a hometown company that cares.

I have been insured with Pioneer State Mutual for the last 2 years - rates are great. I've also had both an auto & home claim with them in the past year, and the claims experience was great! My claims adjustors were in contact within a few hours of when the claims happened, were very responsive & helped get the claims settled quickly. I highly recommend Pioneer!

I was a customer of this company for years. I had a car accident and had to go to the hospital. Because of HIPPA regulations the hospital policy is they don't send a claim until the insurance company gives confirmation over the phone that you are a client. Pioneer state repeatedly said I was not a client of theirs. I provided a copy of the paid policy and was still refused. At the time I had 3 different insurances including health insurance. It is the responsibility of the car insurance company to pay first. After the bills went to collections I contacted the insurance commissioner of Michigan. They researched the issue and said the insurance is not obligated to pay if they do not receive a claim within one year. A very clever avoidance plan. When I lost my home in the hurricane I could not get a loan for a home because of the collection. Thank you pioneer state mutual!

Update as of 4/4/18: I sent the email as so kindly requested by "owner" and have not had a response. I have never left a poor review and don't like doing it now. If and when I get a satisfactory response from the company I will very happily change the review.

I can't say enough GREAT things about our experience with Pioneer State Mutual. Their team was so supportive, responsive and timely. Jackie Shappee was our Regional Representative who was AMAZING. She and her team made this claim experience seamless. Jackie was there for any question or concern. She was compassionate and helpful. After the first contact with Pioneer, I never had to place a call again. Their team would always reach out to me to see how things were progressing. Now that the claim has been wrapped up, I feel that I will miss my new friends at Pioneer.

In April 2017, I had a house fire that required an extensive rebuild. PSMIC was wonderful. The insurance company sent their adjustor out in 2 days. Marissa was wonderful. She gave me a check to cover my immediate expenses. I was out of my house for a year and they covered my living expenses. They were so easy to work with and made the whole experience a lot easier and less stressful for me. I would recommend PSMIC to anyone looking for insurance. Pioneer State Mutual is a community-minded and dedicated organization. Their employees are friendly, kind, and compassionate. I work for a center that provides services to victims of child abuse and neglect. Pioneer State Mutual provided over 40 Christmas gifts and gift cards to all of the children in foster care. During Child Abuse Awareness Month they decorate their office and participate in all of the activities. It is amazing to know that an insurance company would be so dedicated to giving back to the community and to these precious children.

As a policyholder for 15 years, I have experienced both auto and home claims with this company and have been very satisfied. They were quick, fair and pleasant to deal with.

Everyone I've ever talked to has been wonderful, I have no complaints at all. This is not my insurance company, I just had to deal with them for a short while, but anyone looking for insurance I would definetly consider this company.

I have had Pioneer through Jacobsins to insure my mothers estate, my auto and condo for the last 5 years. I recently quoted and found out I m paying almost $500 a year for the same coverage just on auto so I m switching. Jacobsins as a broker is non value add and Pioneers pricing is higher than most. I wouldn t recommend either and am switching myself. I also strongly recommend not to use a broker as you re paying for their services too.

One of my rental properties caught fire and needed extensive repair...Pioneer did an amazing job of communicating and helping and paying on time. I highly recommend them!

Terrible insurance company! They infringe on privacy and are very rude. Did you know you have to include ANY person living with you? Including blind niece or grandma with dementia..

This company is horrible, they love to collect premiums but will fight with every last dollar to avoid paying a claim. If you re thinking of signing up for a farm policy with these guys and run in to the misfortune of having a claim you are in trouble. Pay a little more and get the farm bureau is my advice!

During this time I have been in contact with several departments at Pioneer and am continually impressed by the kindness, and patience, that their employees have shown to me. The Pioneer claims department was exceptional to work with. They did made sure my experience was top-notch and got me, and my vehicle, back on the road quickly.

I have worked with Pioneer State Mutual for over 20 years and they are a fine insurance company operating in Michigan. They offer a wide range of insurance products including Auto, Home, Business, Farm, and Workers Compensation. They are also very fast and fair with customers on claims service and offer very competitive rates. They only do business in Michigan and have a A.M. Best Rating of A+. They only work through Independent Agents and are one of many that we work with here in Michigan.

I was in an accident last year, and even before the police arrived I was able to report my claim via the mobile app... it was simple, and while the repairs needed were extensive, the entire cost was covered quickly and with no issues. The claims service rep answered all of my questions and made sure I knew what to expect at each step along the process... I appreciate having a clear process, and someone to walk me through the details.

Hey pioneer when are you going to follow suit and offer some type of refund due to this pandemic? Hopefully it s sooner than later!

Absolutely the worst insurance company in the United States. If I can give them a negative 10 I would have. They love to hike up your rates but when it comes time for a claim you get absolutely nothing and they give you pure hell. Will be seeing Pioneer in court. Do not fall for these great star ratings. That's BS. They are all made up to make it look like people are actually happy with this company. Do not be fooled. Worst company ever! They have been reported.

Julie Kwapis was the adjuster for a recent sewer backup in my vacation condo. She wasted no time in evaluating the damage and reviewing the condo association by-laws to realize that we were liable for the first $5000 of damage. She processed a check for that amount minus our deductible within days. We are well on our way to getting the damage repaired and getting our unit back in the rental pool.
