Do not get the lunch buffet of awful sandwiches for about $50USD per person. Beware that a small bottle of water is about $10 per bottle. No advertised price on either. Food was generally awful. Service was rough. Chocolate cake was nice.

The history in this beautiful restaurant is on every wall and at every table.(Munsch sat here) We had the open sandwiches which included carpaccio, prawns and various other toppings. They were delicious. The service was great and we even got to meet the owner who was absolutely charming. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyed a lunch in historic and beautiful surroundings. The shrimp sandwich (from the menu, not the buffet) contained a whole load of shrimp, topped with salmon roe, and tasted superb. Always delicious with hand peeled shrimp! The cavalier steak sandwich was wonderfully cooked, and required extra waiting time because the meat had to rest (was told this, and it was really only positive that they do it so properly and carefully). The french fries for the steak sandwich were also perfectly cooked. Otherwise, plenty of lettuce leaves that followed both sandwiches. Finally shared a wonderful homemade Napoleon cake. Very nice, efficient and service oriented service.

I'll be back, and next time there will be sandwiches with tartar that looked very tempting.

I didn't know that halibut was so bone -laden when I ordered it (may help to tell people before they order). It tasted great, but the bones permeated everything, including the salad. The wait staff was courteous and made it right in the end. I would go back if I were to return to Oslo, but not order halibut.

The oldest cafe in Oslo. Entourage place. Atmospheric inside and nice view from the open terrace. The cuisine is simple but tasty. There is a menu in English, and the waiters will tell you what to eat or advise the dish of the day. Prices are above average but acceptable.

This cafe is a small elegant restaurant with classical decoration. Pricing is typically Norwegian and not cheap. But I must say the food and service are worth the price. I like their steak and veal more than the cod which was not that flavorful. Overall it was still a very delightful meal in a very memorable place.

I have visited Engebret Cafe during the Christmas table time and eaten Lutefisk. When it comes to fish and accessories, there are 5 stars without a doubt. You will be more than full, lots of accessories and wonderfully nice waiters. The price of the fish is also inside as you get served fiak several times. What pulls down is the price of dessert. NOK 200 for a 6 cm wreath cake and a dab of whipped cream is stiff. Otherwise a good drinking map where the alcohol price is what it is out in the "city". All in all, 4.4 stars therefore down to 4. But Highly recommend Lutefisken on Engebret

2 servers for a group of 30-36 people. We were seated upstairs. The temperatures were unseasonably & devastatingly hot. No fans, no air. One man at the table was soaked through front & back with sweat on his shirt :( The food took FOREVER to be served. We were offered fish soup with fish entree. I declined the soup and luckily received a salad as replacement (whew). Food was ok/average with about 30-35 minutes between courses. Finally, while waiting for our paid dessert and coffee... we got up from the table and walked out.(pre-paid)

Good food and not least hot food. The first time you experience it among all the Christmas parties you end up with. Feeling we were a little forgotten at times by the waitress. But generally this is really recommended for Christmas food. Paying for unguarded wardrobe is also not something I like. Took my jacket in, but still had to pay for wardrobe (assuming everyone had to).

Davis was our group server and was fantastic. He was a former employee who can in to help in a busy night. They treat the employees like they treat the guests and it is fantastic. Have the reindeer stew, it is out of this world. Barb from Pewaukee Wisconsin

A very traditional restaurant in a good way, as they have proper table service and gives you the proper cutlery for various dishes. We had very nice starters and mains. The only downside is the price, but this is Oslo, so we weren't expecting a cheap meal.

Very classy, but at the same time very cozy place to have an event (board meeting, dinner, course, confirmation, etc) Very skilled waiters and lovely food. A little gem with an associated green spot and outdoor area in the middle of Oslo city center!

We made a reservation for a special birthday dinner and they lost the reservation. The setting is special. Lots of character. But the food is last on the list of places we visited in Norway. We ordered a taste of Norway appetizer and it's a raw preparation. Nothing indicated in the menu about it being raw, I looked twice. It was good and we ate it all, but no one should be expecting cooked food and have cold fish put in front of you. I ordered the goat. I ate half before I got tired of cutting through and removing fat and grizzle from my portion. Was told it was supposed to be like that. Hard to believe a baby goat had time to put that much fat on their body before butchering. But had never had it before so couldn't argue the point. The sides and sauces of my portion were really good. My companion enjoyed his meal. Maybe you would have better luck. If I get back to Oslo, I would not go back.
