This company is dishonest and exploitative of it's customers lack of computer and communications technology. Their sister company, Blue Ridge Communications, will give you free installation but try to charge you $100 for a low quality router. They also impose data caps, and they are completely unreasonable. Limiting yourself to 500GB on a 15Mbps connection is absolute tyranny. They also take advantage of the fact that this area doesn't have good quality broadband internet speeds. Paying $60-$70 for a 15Mb line is ridiculous. But they can get away with that pricing because there isn't any better competition around. My family is a gaming and streaming family. Because we refuse to get Blue Ridge cable, we are punished with unreasonable data caps and excessive pricing for the quality of the service. This company is not friendly to high-performance computing enthusiasts and should be avoided at all costs. There are better companies in the area like Indigo Wireless. Not only will I be disconnecting my service permanently at the end of the year, but I will be urging all of my friends, family, and clients to stay well away from PenTeleData and Blue Ridge Communications.

PenTeleData needs to stop robbing us. Not even trying to bandwagon with all the bad reviews, but I have been with them for over 5 years and have received the worst service possible. Rates are extremely high, data cap is another reason to take your money. There's no to increase it unless you upgrade your internet package. I rarely ever get the internet download speed I am paying for even with a premium router.

I wish there were other providers in the area to save us all. I'm sorry, but This is by far the worst internet service provider I've dealt with and I have no other options for high speed internet.

Internet routinely goes out for days in my entire apartment complex and when we call they basically say every electronic device I own and that my roommates own, must be broken. Even though we had purchased new routers, Ethernet cables etc. And none of them gave us internet to hook up to any of our devices. As a college student that commutes this is a major hindrance to completing many tasks I need for my education. If you have any other option pick that option.

Honestly the most horrible service I ever had. I honestly had better internet in puerto rico which is unbelievable!!!! Internet dropping every 10 minutes, my apartments has a server issue since November 2016 and they have not fix it and we can't use another internet cable company of our own. I have to log in every single time I'm going to use it in my own house like it was a mcdonalds or a dunkin donuts. It is just the worst service I've had. Worst part is I didn't choose this service it was already here when I moved in so I'm stuck with it.

I don't even want to give them 1 star. I had faster and more reliable service back when I had a 14.4 Modem over a phone line. They sell you 10M down and whenever you test it, its barely 1M Down. They have been out so many times to "fix the problem" that I finally had enough and called customer service and asked for a supervisor. The guy on the phone said no. I told him I was not happy and I needed to speak to someone there in management. He then told me to F#@k off and hung up. I wrote a letter addressed to the owner explaining how bad I was being treated. Never heard from anyone and the person that told me to F#@k off was still employed. Amazingly bad company. Switching to Dish.

only ability is to leave a message.

Unfortunately we do not have choice of provider where we live. Anyone who does have a choice should definitely go with someone else.

I wish I could leave no stars, to give a review. But PenTeleData and Service Electric are easily the worst ISP's to date. The only reason they have customers is because the contracts in developments they put in 10 years ago. So the customers have no choice.

Absolute worst service and waste of time with ineffective solutions to slow internet. Funny thing is they act surprised that our internet is performing at speeds half of what we pay for. We pay way too much for the garbage service we get. In the last month alone, the internet has gone out at least 3 times a week! They need to fix their servers

PTD is hands-down the worst ISP I have ever dealt with. I have worked with Comcast, Spectrum, Windstream, Zito Media, Atlantic Broadband, and even Verizon. They all are easier and better to work with than PTD. Their support is incompetent. Their way of doing things are antiquated. I asked them to replace a modem because of odd connection issues. They refused to replace the modem, because it was "all good" from their end. Comcast would have replaced the modem for the asking. But not PTD, no sir, they know better than the onsite technician. Instead of just replacing a modem for the sake of troubleshooting, they strongly refused on multiple occasions. And guess what the issue turned out to be??? The modem was the issue. Oh, and I spent an entire day trying to call their support, only to find out that their tech support line was down. Just awesome. If you have another ISP of choice, I strongly recommend them over PTD.

Worst ISP. They have a monopoly on cable internet in my area of northeast PA. HIGH COST. DATA CAPS. SLOW SPEEDS. Someone come in and price these guys out of business. My friend 30 minutes away in easton gets RCN and has 50mbps cable internet for less than I'm paying for 15mbps.

My internet goes completely out sometimes they sent a worker out he said there was a problem in the lines and said they would call me when the problem was fixed lol never got fixed. Pay for the highest internet package humanly possible with the fastest router humanly possible? How about we get progressively slower until you literally cannot do anything in your home but search internet and watch tv shows after letting them sit and buffer for 5 seconds every 30 seconds!

I've been with PenTeleData for 7 years and the few times I've had problems, due to storms or power outages, they have been resolved quickly. Customer Service has been helpful. I am glad this service it's available in my area... better than Comcast, in my opinion.

I can't figure out all of the hate. I have had these guys for 10 years and the only time I had trouble with PTD is when I had a crappy old DOCSIS 2.0 modem. After I got a DOCSIS 3.0 modem I have never had a second of downtime.

We have never had a problem at our office or any of the handful of customers we have that use PenTele Data. Sure, network speeds in the USA pales I comparison to other countries, but as far as this area, PTD is the fastest and most inexpensive you can get.

Speeds are always spot on. Never slow downs or latency issues during prime times. Downtime is low and not common. If your equipment at home is quality and not the cheapest thing you can find at Walmart, PenTeleData & Blue Ridge will deliver the speeds advertised on their website. Prices are a touch higher but mostly worth it compared to all the other issues with big cable companies.

My parents have used their service for what I m going to assume has been at least 4-5 years and every single one of those years has been absolutely painstakingly terrible when it comes to internet. We have had someone out to fix our connection several times, but that just resulted in a few new cables, sometimes a new modem (which never improved anything), and overall nothing of actual improvement. I decided to write this review now (using my mobile data) because the speeds for the last 4 days have been in the ballpark of 0.01 mbps to 0.6 Mbps (those were the good speeds). I m now sitting on a connection that is either so small it isn t traceable or none at all (my router says there is a connection but none of my devices can find one). We also have lost our HD Tv channels. Before these abismal speeds started becoming the norm, we still only got AT MOST 3 mbps on a wired connection and 1.5 Mbps wireless. Ookla speed test claimed I was getting 20 mbps but when downloading a game from steam I was disappointed to see that it NEVER ONCE peaked 3 mbps. Overall, HORRIBLE service, bad customer support, and a total waste of money. I m going to be even more upset if I find out that we aren t able to switch providers due to the fact that PA has almost no internet providers and PTD is the only one who covers about half the state. Wish I could give 0.5 stars, and that .5 is only because when hosting games or streaming, the connection didn t drop every 30 seconds, so although terribly slow, it was consistent at some points.

If I could give PenTeleData a negative star rating I would. My company has spent 2.5 weeks now battling with PTD, trying to get them to fix a line that was struck by lightening outside my office. They tell you someone is coming to service it and no one shows. They tell you that someone will call you with an update and the call never comes. They tell you that you can ask directly for a manager or supervisor but shockingly, none of them are ever available.

I am paying for 25 down/5 up and I am getting 1.67 down and 2.3 up. If I had ANY OTHER OPTION I would take it in a heartbeat and sue them if they tried to enforce their ridiculous contract. I have literally had to tell my employees to work from home or use a hot spot on their phone for internet access because we have such poor service. What an embarrassment to our community. Google - we need your fiber. PLEASE come provide some competition to this business internet monopoly.

Here is my latest experience with PenTeleData-Palmerton Telephone Company through DSL

I call up asking why my internet isnt working, a guy directs me to directly hook up to the modem of the internet and do a speedtest, it hits the exact results, his reply is "Sorry sir, our equipment is not the problem here. blablabl ticket"

1 day later, I get the same problem, where my internet is dropping down to 0.30-1 mbps, I don't call up, because i'll have the same result, now I directly connect to the modem, and I speedtest, I also see again 0.30-1 mpbs download and 0.60 upload

This is completely ridiculous, I don't reccommend this ISP unless you want horrible customer service and internet speeds.

I was doing business with PenteleData but I was having problems with my IP phone service.. Phone company said it was PenteleDatas problem, PenteleData said it was the phone company after two months of pointing fingers I replaced both companies.. When PenteleData came to pick up there equipment I was told my problem was the router.. Now they want over $600.00 for canceling the service.. It is not easy to change these services when you business is up and running but the LACK of support from these two companies gave me NO CHOICE.. So now I'm going to let the WORLD KNOW the SERVICE REALLY IS QUESTIONABLE GO ELSE WHERE

PenTeleData is a huge joke. The con'ed me into a contract for my small business. Packets are dropped daily while I am hardwired in, I offered to provide them screenshots, they said "no no we will monitor on our end and report back tomorrow". The next day they came back and said they didn't see any packet loss therefore there is no issue.

...packets continue to be lost, I offer screenshots. The sales guy says, "we can offer you a network specialist to configure your home network for a set price". I explain to him that I want my expensive internet to work and that I shouldn't have to buy ad-ons for my internet to work smoothly.

I had an account created at one point, they said that they need to disable and delete my account so they did that. And that I need to create a new account, when I try to create a new account I get an HTTP error. I tried Chrome, Safari and IE. Customer service sends me to the technical help desk, technical help desk sends me to customer service.... did you clear your cache to your browser? yes.
Meanwhile, I have a late fee charge because they can't create an account for me. These people are incompetent and the service is spotty at best... and still no ownership of the dropped packets and poor service.

-edit- as an update I feel it should be noted that your local Cable co is the real bad guy here with the data caps, cancelling accounts, service to residential... Service Electric = Terrible.
Bonus... Did you know they can cancel your account immediately if you use the F-word or any other bad language online anywhere? Read the fine print on the service electric site....

Make no mistake... there is no competition. I think the prices are high but without something to compare it to, how do you know ? Internet speeds are mediocre, TV is also high. The saving grace is NORMALLY they have decent CS.. but even that can be spotty. Local company, I want them to do well. They recently doubled their internet speeds and discontinued their lowest speed called websurfer which was dated to say the least. ( apparently they are doing VERY well )

Update : Last year I discontinued their TV service.. just didn't seem to want to keep the customers that kept them going when they first started up... Almost $ 200 a month for TV and Internet ? No way.. except for a very few ( probably about 6 channels ) I could get by just fine on a TV Antenna. As it is, I switched back to a satellite service, they too are overpriced but it depends on how far you want to bend over.. Since they are the only game in town I kept the internet service..

Our internet was out (happens with a frightening frequency) and was told it would be almost a month before a service tech could come out. Are you kidding me? i was on the phone on hold for so long that it hung up on me, so I emailed them 6 days ago. they got back to me the next day asking for my phone number to confirm the account. that was 5 days ago, and they haven't emailed me back since. my service drops every 15 minutes for a few seconds and its ANNOYING. it is not my devices or my brand new wireless router because i had the same problem with the new one i did with the old one, which is why i spent the money to replace it! i've tried calling 3 times and each time i wait so long i visibly age and then it hangs up on me because nobody bothers answering! they must have 2 customer service people and one support person because i can never get a hold of anyone. i'm switching to RCN, it's cheaper anyway.

Terrible, unreliable Internet service that goes out all the time. Unfortunately it is the only choice where I am in Northwest NJ. Lately while working on the Internet they randomly hijack my browser with popups for a stupid contest they are running. Unless you accept it, you are locked out of the browser. I have never come across such insanity with other ISPs, and I have had or used many.

As a renter at Sand Spring Apartments we are locked into their contract and can only have PTD its outrageous over priced junk with no upload speeds. and spotting downloads. You can barely use facebook and stream a video at the same time. 100% would pick another company if not for being locked in a monopoly.
