I am very sorry to have to write something but I f...

I am very sorry to have to write something but I feel very compelled to after my experience here. A palm tree had been cut down in my yard, and I found a baby bird. I tried to put a baby bird in a box higher up, but I found him again late afternoon, with the parents nowhere to be found.. He was lively, squeaking and moving around perfectly fine. His breathing was relaxed and he was not injured at all. I took him in and kept him warm in an incubator. I turned in the baby bird on Sunday afternoon to this shelter. I called again this morning, on tuesday ( they are closed on monday) to ask about this baby bird and a rather rude and cold lady said she had no idea what I was talking about. I asked how can I be more specific. She took down my name and looked up a file and said had euthanized this little bird because "he was having trouble breathing". I am heartbroken at this news... This is a place that is supposed to KNOW what they are doing when it comes to animals, and I hate making assumptions, but this little bird seemed perfectly fine for the little time that I was keeping him warm, before I gave him to this place, and then I call and its been euthanized...... I feel that I could have taken better care of the baby bird myself. I know this isn't always best for a small baby bird to be raised by humans, but how could a baby bird go from being perfectly seemingly ok to euthanized in two days... It breaks my heart and I keep crying over this whole situation... He was so small and seemed ok.. Why do you have to be rude to people calling in to ask about animals well being?

In April I went in to adopt a red nose pit, but I saw a black one with white paws and white chest. I went back three times to make sure his personality was the same, it was. Decided to adopt him, it's July now and he's great. His name is Guapo ( handsome)

This place seemed very nice at first and very easy to adopt a dog....which we learned now isnt always a good thing. My boyfriend and I were looking for a dog for many months, and had alot of heartbreaks with city shelters so we went here. We saw a dog there that was there for awhile now. And we liked him alot so we adopted him. We were over the moon excited and tried to spoil the dog and shower him with love. But we had him for a week and in that week the dog as we discovered had a heart murmur that the shelter never disclosed. It was very devastating to us and we cried as we had to give him back. We saw no other way since it was gonna cost $3,000 every month plus an additional $1,000 just to start treatment. But our vet told us that he would still die the same way so just give him back. The shelter knew that he had a heart murmur and still tried to pass the dog off as healthy and didnt care if it died with us. They said come back to adopt another dog but after this I dont want another dog from them. And I decided to go to a breeder instead since it's so difficult to adopt a good healthy beginner dog in the shelter.

Currently a volunteer at the Pasadena shelter, I work with the dogs in enrichment to keep them from coming depressed, anxious , and to work on positive training and attitude.
Staff is extremely friendly, please feel free to ask questions.
And I've seen many comment on how adoption is strict. At the shelter adoption counselors look at every possible owner and their situations to guarantee the best home for the animal. Say if you have another pet, or if the animal has a bad memory of a male, etc. Unfortunately there have been cases where one of the animals gets to finally have a home and are then returned to our shelter. We want all of our animals to go to a lifelong loving home!

Very rude counselor. I found a stray dog and took her to this shelter. I checked up on her everyday and even went down to the shelter a couple times to make sure I was on the wait list to adopt her if the owners never arrived. I volunteered at many non kill shelters so I understand the adoption and wait list process should be throrough BUT THEIR PROCESS WAS OUTRAGEOUS. The counselor told me I couldn't adopt the dog for a list of reasons but she also added attitude like I was going to harm the dog in some way if I became her owner.

Condescending B****.

Poor pups and cats. I hope this doesn't discouraged people from adopting there because the animals do need homes but I just wanted to warn people to brace themselves before talking to a counselor.

Very stricked rules regarding adoption and not pleasant people. I would never bring a found animal to this shelter. It's as though you're borrowing their pet, not rescuing it. I'll not support this shelter in any way.

I saw that this shelter was close to a building I started going to for appointments, so on the 3rd trip to Pasadena for that I opted to go with my kids to check out some dogs. I came in knowing nothing and never having been here. I have recently gone to several other animal shelters in LA and surrounding areas as our family is still searching for that special perfect pet, and this one is well above and beyond what I've seen at others. It's clean, easy to park, easy to navigate via the signs, there were volunteers available and glad to help, the dogs were clearly cared for and the signage on the cages were up to date with information. I cannot say what the meet and greet area was like, nor the adoption process, as the dog we did connect to wasn't available yet since it was picked up as a stray. The visit was a success though and I say this place seems to care (goodness I can't stress how clean this one was compared to so many others) and are there for the people looking.

Friendly, smiley staff, services more affordable, clean facilities. The Sunday we were there was too busy. We got to the line 15 minutes after opening, but still waited 2 hrs for just 10 minutes of service. Service was quick. To minimize the wait, try to get there at least 30 min before opening and fill out the forms online the day before. Before you leave, double check your paperwork to make sure your pets got everything they needed. If somehow something was missing, just let the staff know you've been through the line and ask to be prioritized. They would understand.

I know this facility and its staff are all there for the sake of all animals. For that I will give 3 stars. However, if you call several times and leave messages to different people, should they take a couple of minutes to call you back to inform you that their community services policies have changed. I was there in person, and I was told that there are no more walk-ins, and that I should call to make and appointment for an interview for community service. I did that right away. No answer after several attempts. Left a message. I called once more and was also able to leave a message to another person (I won't mention names). I didn't get a call that day nor the next. I called again on the third day and again after several calls and nobody picking up the line, I left messages again. I left my information on all messages. Nobody called me. Well, on the 4th day I learned from a third party person that they are not accepting any community services individuals at the moment. Well, I think that the person in the main office should had informed of that. That's if the individuals making new policies keep close communication with those working in the front desk.
Should someone had called me after leaving messages? Maybe!

Though there are a lot of animals at this location the people who work there seem like money is the only important thing. They literally bid out dogs and it s awful. They would rather have a pet go to whosever got the most money rather than who would be the best fit.

They didn't accept a white dove with a broken wing I found. Because I live in Garvanza, Los Angeles district that borders Pasadena. They said white doves are domesticated and that someone might be looking for it. I live in L.A., but what if the bird is Pasadenian?

No kill shelter and recently expanded. Great place to look for dogs, cats, or rabbits. Also fun to just look around as a bit of a date. Parking is a small lot but plenty of street parking too. Got our first dog as couple here together way back in 2009.

The guy in the main office was very rude. He didn't let me see a cat that I thought was mine just because "my description of my cat" fit with his own cat at home and said it can be any cat.. He made it seem like it wasn't going to be my cat and said not to get my hopes up when I just wanted to confirm it. Overall, he was unprofessional and seemed to hate his job.

This is an amazing shelter, plenty of parking under the bldg. hands cap also, very large and the only shelter that takes in indigenous wildlife that need help. I brought a very sick 'Poor-well' bird to them for care, they were very attentive and got it to intensive care right away. the place is very clean and the assistance was very friendly and caring NOT LIKE WEST VALLEY WHERE THEY ARE 'CURT' WITH THEIR RESPONSES AT THE DESK.

After visiting 7 animal control centers (private/public) my family and I decided to stop by Pasadena Humane Society, what an offensive, demeaning and insulting experience. Reception staff is courteous, helpful and definitely have people skills but then we (husband and wife and 2 teenage kids) met with the so called "counselor." A lady with some sort of European accent and a rude, demeaning and unprofessional behavior. No greeting upon meeting us, CIA/FBI line of questioning and we were told we were giving "half answers." Also, phrases such as "I am more concerned about the puppies well being," "you are better off adopting an adult dog," "not good to have 2 male dogs together" (we have a rescue who is 5 years old) and "I am not concerned about what your son wants" peppered the interaction with her.. This is the kind of crap that came out of her mouth. Furthermore, she basically addressed my wife who completed the application, the rest of us were irrelevant. This "counselor" needs to understand that she is trying to match pets to families/individuals, it is not a serial manufacturing process. We won't be back to this place, maybe she needs to be adopted and taught some basic human interaction.

My daughter adopted a sweet little dog here last week. Our adoption counselor was really terrific, so helpful and understanding. All of the employees and volunteers who work with the animals really seem to like their jobs, and they were very willing to help us. You could tell how much they love animals and that they really wanted to help them find new homes. (A couple of the young women in the office weren't nearly so helpful, but thankfully we didn't need to deal with them much.) The animals here look well cared for. We would definitely recommend coming here to adopt a pet.

I went and adopted my baby girl.the other day. Most of the staff was extremely helpful. Marisol was my adoption agent who assisted me through out the process she made sure everything was though out and very understanding. She was very knowledgeable about everything. Truly pleasant experience working with you....

Connie was another adoption agent in worked with. Not so happy or pleased. I was with her for a few minutes. She brought the the two dogs I was thinking about for me to interact with. HORRIBLE experience with you. The dog I ended up bringing home was sick and I wanted to discuss this with my family before bringing her home, while I was on the phone with my family you proceeded to tell me I had to make up my mind now. Couldn't discuss it anymore with the family if I didn't give you an answer you were going to move on to the next guest. For Christ sake i said I was going to adopt one I just needed to discuss the decision if bringing home a dog that had an illness. You job is about compassion and pairing a dog with the perfect family the fact that you rushed me and made the process with you totally unenjoyable. Work on your compassion and understanding and you may make the experience enjoyable...

If you live in Pasadena and surrounding cities, services here are convenient. If you don't live nearby, get ready to pay an extra $30. For dog/cat vaccines, come early to guarantee that your pet(s) get their needed shots. Despite extra fee, cost is lower than going to a vet's office

I came here twice looking for my missing cat, the staff were very understanding and sympathetic. While searching the shelter's cats in an attempt to locate ours I couldn't help but notice how clean and well kept everything was. If I was trying to adopt a pet I would certainly come here.
