HSSV is fantastic. We've taken part in two different obedience classes and worked with them to return lost dogs we've found in the area. They also have a fantastic agility and general dog park.

Oldest animal shelter in the Bay Area. It is 88 years old as of 2017. The structure is really nice with separate rooms for each animal. This is not the old animal shelter where you open a door and see all the animals locked up behind bars. There are also nice grassy areas for the dogs to run around in. Overall an advanced Silicon Valley building for the animals.

My cousin had to put one of her dogs down because he had had a stroke. The staff was truly amazing. Raiders final moments were handled very well. My cousin felt better after making such a difficult decision. You can tell the staff love their jobs and are good at what they do.

I really love visiting this place. They have lot of options for adoption. I really love the dogs and the cats. Inside the dogs shelter they have a shop from where you can buy stuff for your cats. You can also meet cats and dogs. The volunteers are good and helpful here.

We love the Humane Society. We have gotten a puppy and our three cats from them and have fostered for them. Being in rescue for over 12 years, I have dealt with some of these people for over 18 years. What a great facility! Thank you for all you do!

This place is great. Their organization of the dogs and rooms were disorganized but they figured it out. Be aware, the price to adopt a puppy is 8 weeks to 6 months is around $300. For dogs 6 months or older is $20. Seams a little pricy for a 8 week puppy but it includes 6 weeks of behavior classes, shots, chip and spay or neutering.

A shelter like no others. Forget the Shelters you remember from the past. This place is setting standards for shelters across America. Even if you're not ready to Adopt an animal. They have a medical center offering vaccinations and spay & neuter surgery and a pet store opened to the public. Bring the family and come visit.

I used to work around the corner from this location. One year not too long ago after the death of our dog, my wife found a new puppy to consider. When I came down here to check her out, the staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the dog and everything I would need to know. We did adopt that dog and she stayed with us until her death. This place has my full support.

Really nice facility and park. I'm not a member so we didn't actually use the park, just walked by it when taking my dog to classes there. It's a little out of way for us so we didn't opt for the pass. Great teachers and staff and the whole campus is very nice.

I have been here a few times. Both times were very challenging times for me in that, I was there with my family to put down old, sick cats that I had since childhood.

The staff were warm, respectful and professional both times. They welcomed us in and guided us into a spacious, private room where we could spend some last moments with the respective cats, while they processed some paperwork. They offered condolences and communicated clearly about the procedures before guiding us to the lab.

They used 2 injections for our cats, with the first being a pain medication to make the animals calm before the second injection. They made these challenging times a little easier for us and it allowed us to get some closure. The technician informed us that not all veterinarians use 2 injections, which can be quite stressful and discomforting for the animal, which is the last thing you want to see when you are in this situation. Glad that they use 2.

Besides that, there are a number of other services here and lots of other animals if you want to play or adopt.

We took our 2 year old small husky to this Humane Society to get neutered. It was a horrible experience overall. Let me give you the reasons:
1. They made our dog have complete anesthesia, when it was not necessary. They were afraid only because our dog was uncomfortable at the beginning, and they took no time to make her feel at ease before starting to handle her. My boyfriend told them she is a little scared around big people and they took it personally and charged us another $100 to put her to sleep.
2. When they shaved her belly, they were very careless which resulted in many razor cuts, irritation, and bleeding.
3. A day later, we noticed our dog had acquired an ear infection from being in the Humane Society kennel. We had to go to another vet and spend a lot of money to get rid of the infection and treat the cuts on her belly. We paid much more overall than if we took her to get neutered at a normal veterinarian.

Good and clean place, polite staff. But you need to remind them about your appointments, a lot of wait time, and if you want to surrender your pet, you'll be on an neverending wait list.

We went in to see a dog I'd seen on their website. When we got there we discussed why we were there and the dog we were looking at. The person who helped us really listened and actually recommend a different dog.. I admit I felt sorry for the dog we'd come to see, but we saw him being handled outside of his pen and he was like a kangaroo on steroids! The enviroment I work in would allow dogs, but a couple of the folks would NEVER be able to handle a dog like that around due to physical restrictions!
They set us up with a meet and greet and within the hour we were a happy little family again! This new dog is a Beagle/Border Collie mix and is two years old. The previous owner had given up on her.. We wont! We were a little concerned when within 15 hours of ownership she started this horrible cough! We knew there was a dog flu going around and so the next day took her in.
We were told to come back an hour later because she hadn't even been in our care for 24 hours. The exam went well and antibiotics were given. I'd never heard of "Kennel Cough" before.. It's a combination of Germs and bacteria from a lot of animals in a single place. Goes away in about a week to three weeks. Please check with your Vet, don't take my word for it! All in all we are very pleased and would recommend the SPCA for good animals in a human world that need a little help, love and patience!
God bless

Sadly I waited more than an hour to try to visit with Dixon but I had to leave. Very little communication while one is waiting. No attention given to those who are walking around. You should have a roaming volunteer to assist guests.

Amazingly helpful and friendly staff. They were quick to greet us and provide us with the information we need.
During my last visit I ended up adopting an adorable cat named Cotton. The staff there were excited and sad to see him go, but still gave me all the info I needed to help provide him with a forever home. Heather, the girl at the front desk, kept the mood high and answered all my questions promptly.
