Got my cats neutered and microchipped here. They were clean, efficient, helpful, and caring. It was affordable and my cats have recovered nicely.

If it wasn't for PHS, I would not have met my best friend and road-trip buddy.
I adopted Iggy in 2012 and since then, Iggy has been the highlight of my days! If you are planning to adopt a pet, PLEASE take the adoption seriously! Having a pet is a big responsibility. Any pet you decide to adopt deserves the best treatment. If you know you won't be capable of providing the best for the pet you have may adopt, then let someone else do so. Thank you PUS for all the work you do. Here are some pics of Iggy. Iggy has a best friend kitty cat, by the way.
We places a dog on hold and somehow when we went there to adopt the dog there was another person that was on the wait list and caused a huge problem. We still weren't able to adopt the dog. This made me so mad with this shelter considering that we filled out all the paper work and called the other day just to check on the dog. What makes me mad the most is their dumb system on what dogs have a bigger wait list. Apparently only stray dogs can have 3 people on hold. So even if I wanted to put the dog on hold I couldn't. I wouldn't bother going here. There are just so many problems with their adoption system.
Great place to adopt dogs, cats, and sometimes rabbits. Well-maintained and great staff / volunteers
This is the best Humane Society I have been to. And I have lived in a lot of cities in many states! This is a no-kill policy shelter and they accept all sorts of critters to include chickens, pheasants, turtles and they have several rabbits, Guinea Pigs and cats and dogs. They have free adoption days and a low cost vet clinic that you can get very inexpensive vaccinations. For exotics, they provide a free vet visit to Pasadena Exotic Vet located by the American Red Cross Center. They also have a pet store, classes and more. Dog areas are located outside and each space has a floor heated area behind a metal door like area in each outdoor space. I went to pick up a chicken and was amazed at how warm and cozy it was in there. Enjoy the beautiful spaces and animals. They welcome volunteers too.
I can't believe Pasadena Humane Society has the "OCTOBER BLACK CAT ADOPTION", when during this month, a lot of black cats are sacrificed in satanic rituals around halloween!!!
I am disappointed about PHS.
Don't know too much about the details of the dogs and cats they say they rescue but most are 2+ years old. You can see the dogs caged outdoors inside the property in their cages. Cats are caged indoors. Pet store is also located indoors.
Love this place, we adopted our cat here and our daughter attendted their Critter Camp which she truly enjoyed.
I love that there is a place where I know that animals are being saved and cared for.
Really bad experience there. I went this afternoon to check out the dogs and I fell in love with one. I had to go back home and I called to ask about the dog I talked with a counselor for a long time about the dog and she told me that the dog was available and even told me to go spend time with the dog to see if I like him and I could take him right away. So I drove more than an hour to go there again and waited for more than an hour in line. When finally was my turn they told me that the dog wasn t available and it was impossible to take him. What kind of service is that? They played with my time, my gas and more important my feelings, I was so excited to take the dog with me today. You don t do that to anyone. I m so disapointed of this place.
Incredibly AWFUL. The staff has no idea how to take care of animals. I am also on my way to sue the place- they stole my cat away from me with no given permission and would NOT give it back, AND ASKED ME TO PAY?? TO GET MY CAT BACK. He ended up dying in a cage, since he got very sick from being there. Disgusting. Maybe the staff could understand and learn that animals need care, attention and love. Instead of whatever the hell they give out in that place.
they took really good care of my dog Buddy, when I boarded him, we will be going back, there 2 more times this year
staff knows their animals. they are friendly and very helpful.
Went to take my cat to the Affordable Vaccination Clinic and had a good experience with the staff. Will definitely be coming back here for vaccinations.
Awesome attention to my cats. Make sure you get there at least 45 minutes early, long lines.
Seeing all those lonely dogs is very sad. Street parking is limited. They have an underground garage. A maze from the garage to whatever you want. Nice people.
Someone took my baby chihuahua here and they only had her for 5 days did not even had her on the wed and she was put to sleep... Cruelty I can't believe this place ... I'm still heart broken...
I go here almost every weekend just to stare at the pets in the kennels! They're well taken care of here and the kennels are always clean
As a life long animal lover and unofficial rescuer (cats and dogs) I admire greatly what the SPCA of Pasadena does. (I have 2 large dogs, 4 cats and 4 horses on 23 acres. Our place is immaculate the our animals live the lives most people wished they had!
I understand the need to prevent "impulse" adoptions and to make sure the prospective adopters will be good parents and have appropriate time and facilities to care for the animals for a lifetime. However, some of their adoption staff/counselors need counselling themselves in people skills. My personal experience once (my husband went to adopt a cute black cat we saw online) was strange. He said he came away feeling like he was a "creep" for wanting a black cat. He sensed they thought he was going to perform satanic rituals with the animal simply because he preferred a black cat. What a disappointing experience.
Some "counselors" should be fired. They seem rather pious and almost rude at times to us above average, professionally educated and 6 figure salary folks so I can only imagine if you are a person of color with lesser $$ how you would be treated by some staff members.
I suggest the SPCA Pasadena Director get more involved in staff selection, supervision and training. Film some of the interviews (covertly) for training purposes to teach people how to be respectful and nice.
I won't donate to this charity due to this reason. I donate regularly to the ASPCA or my local County Shelter (food and supplies) whom I find more accommodating.
My husband ultimately left without adopting a cat as he felt treated like a "criminal". So today (8/12/2017) I am watching the news and they are "GIVING" them away on CATACON day for $20.00, no questions asked. What idiots they are.
Got my best friend here. They are amazing and help so much in the community.
I need a small apt size emotional support dog of mature years who is gentle and affectionate. Already potty and leash trained. The good news is they have a program just for people like me. It's called senior-to-senior with excellent discounts. They had no qualified doggies for but offered me a 6 month registration for the plan.
Best place to take your dog for a check up, training, or if you are looking to adopt a pet.
The workers all care for the animals respectfully! It's a nice place to visit with toddlers and let them see dogs and cats. When visiting, it is a good time to teach children how to understand what dogs are saying with their bodies and barks!
They staff are also very caring and professional if your dog escaped and they picked it up. The staff will counsel you when you are adopting to help make sure the you understand the animal's needs. And are extra caring if you bring the dog for it to be put down. They understand you are in pain over this decision.
Great people here, very well run organization. The dog I ended up with thinks 80 lb is perfect for a lap dog, and is sometimes frightened of his own farts. Love this Mutt.
A great place to help you find your new furry friend
It's a rare animal shelter with free adoptions and such. But it's cruel to most cats! They live in tiny cages.
Clean, organized staff very courteous, professional
I volunteered here. They are patient with any concerns or questions you may have when it comes to adopting an animal. You also get to interact with the animals. They will train the god for you aswell.
The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA has always been active in the community about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets. The staff and volunteers are always pleasant. We work nearby in Old Town Pasadena, and it's impressive to drive by and admire the work they did with the recent expansion of the campus.
Called them today re: german shepherd in La Canada, they have no one who is working today who can help. Yet, they are all over dogs walking non-leash in Hahamonga Park, plenty of staff for that, just not helping lost dogs. I would NEVER donate to them.
I live in Eagle Rock, about 3 miles from the Pasadena Humane Society. I found an injured crow in my backyard and immediately rushed him to PHS. I was greeted by a surly woman who did not try to hide the fact that I'd bothered her by coming in. She had absolutely no sympathy for the bird and sent me away, claiming that the crow was not found in their service area (as if wildlife have addresses). She gave me the name of the North Los Angeles Animal Shelter, which is closed until further notice. She said her hands were tied, but did not refer me to someone whose hands are not tied. As far as I'm concerned, they are an horrendous bureaucracy with no love for animals whatsoever. DO NOT donate or give them any other kind of business.
Kind, helpful volunteers and employees working together for Sunday clinic time.
This place is the nicest place for dogs cats and rabbits. Nice place to visit even if you don't plan to adopt a critter.
Amazing staff and friendly, they are very attentive and professional. I have a Flemish giant rabbit I bring in to get his nail clipped and he is always a big hit there. Hopper is always relaxed when he goes in to get his nails clipped. Highly recommend and it helps them as well
Brought my nephew's 10 month old Yorky in for neutering. Price was very fair which covered E-ring and pain meds. Process was smooth and efficient. Staff was very pleasant. I am very pleased to have these services available at affordable prices.
Outstanding Animal Shelter that provides excellent care to their animals. Please come out and support. So many animals need loving homes.
Lots of loving care for animals. You will want to take them all home. Adopted our second dog there. Now looking for a third. Great place to volunteer and donate as well.
Been here a few times. The staff is absolutely terrific! Caring, attentive, compassionate, organized, clean, friendly and extremely helpful. I wish every shelter and/or rescue were so wonderful.
A must visit if you are looking for a pet, these people work with a limited budget and along with the volunteers they are able to help animals in need. Best place for adopting a pet and supporting a worthy cause.
This is a very good place they were kind to us we got our Dog Phife from this place thank you very much Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA.
It is an excellent place to look for your ideal pet with professional care. She is frida.
Easily the best humane society/shelter that I ve ever been to. Their vaccine clinic is VERY affordable ($15 or less for core vaccines) and the staff treats the animals really well! They also offer an array of training services such as puppy preschool, kindergarten, obedience, and agility classes. If I were a stray pup, this is most definitely where I d want to end up while waiting for a forever home!
Man this place is depressing- but all animal shelters are. I am looking for a dog and found one that I really wanted to bring home. After reading the reviews, I knew that this might not be the most fun experience, but the dog was exactly what I was looking for. After calling in the morning, I drove three hours to visit the dog-- which I then found out was not ready to be adopted. They blamed the misinformation on a volunteer. Funny thing is that the tag on her cage said she was ready for adoption. I'm thinking a volunteer read that tag, and was not the person that erroneously put it on the cage. I got to see the dog in its prison and she clearly wants to get out of there. I had the same feeling.
On my way back to the office, a young volunteer that was giving attention to a dog that was already adopted, but still stuck in its cage, was corrected in front of me for something that seemed like absolute nonsense to me. I can tell you that if I was a volunteer, I would have been pissed off about that.
Anyway, after wasting the whole day on this project, they told me to get lost because I have a dog at home (which I brought to the pound to introduce him to the dog that was in puppy prison- but was denied). My dog still has his manhood, and that is the way he is going to remain. The pound does not dig on that, so I was denied. They could have mentioned that before I began the odyssey, but it wasn't their time that they wasted. I think common sense would tell any normal person that I am at the pound because I am not interested in breeding my dog. So why then do they get so up in arms about it?
I think they mean well, you must really love pets to work in a depressing place like that. Cheers to the volunteers! Even if they are used as scapegoats. I certainly appreciate the work they do- probably more than the paid employees do. I think the place could be improved. BTW, I already found another dog that I am picking up tomorrow- without all the headache.
Staff here are very nice, and the pet boarding is very helpful if you are on vacation
Great, caring staff. All types of lovely animals that need homes.
Great place to buy your pet products. Free parking. Will help you get your purchase to the car and if you are a frequent dog food buyer ask about their punch card. Then, after your purchase, if you need a doggie fix, walk over to the kennels to give some love to the pooches that need it.
Wow! Great people that helped me find the perfect dog! Now training . Thank you!!
Parking is small but definitely recommended coming here if you're looking to adopt a dog! Staff was knowledgeable and personable.
The staff was extremely helpful in solving the little animal ER.
the pasadena humane society is one of the best animal shelters on the planet. if you dont believe me then feel free to visit ANY OTHER SHELTER out there. now personally, i've been going to the humane society for about 14 years now just to visit the dogs and no one has ever been disrespectful to me. if someone says the staff has been disrespectful toward them then they most likely made a request and had it denied. procedure is procedure. you aren't going to a pet store so its not likely you'll be going home with your pet the same day. i cant tell you how many times i've seen someone disrespect the staff there over this issue.... either way the best shelter hands down in the state. maybe malibu has a nicer facility.... maybe
Experienced unfriendly service, The operator's attitude is very bad, we don't understand why this office hired this kind of person doing service job???????
I love the pasadena humane society: where else can you save the life/lives of a " furever fluffy loving companion(s)" who will forever provide you unconditional love !
This is not like any shelter, they work hard to house, rehabilitate, train and adopt to good people. They interview potential adopters to ensure the adoption is a life time success... People may not like that, but it is in the best interest of the animals.... Thank you for your hard work and dedication, your organization should be used as a role model for the county shelters around the LA area. Thank you,
So far I've adopted 3 animals from here and I've had a great experience! I just want to give a shout out to Aidee and all the staff here are friendly, nice, organized and the lobby is always clean. They gave me some starter supplies for my fur babies, which is great to have. Thank you Pasadena Humane Society !
Wonderful animal selection and some Great volunteers, but some of the staff are simply idiots. They have wasted my time over and over. They give the wrong information, or give me a position on the waitlist, give me an appointment for same, and then I learn that the dog has gone back to its owner. Without a word from them. They tell me a dog is available (this has happened 3 times on 3 separate visits) and then when I arrive, the dog is not available at all, not even to visit with me in some office or play area on the grounds. The very young butch dark-haired woman who handles reception spent 20 minutes looking for my application from a few weeks earlier. She had no idea what she was doing. Then she refused to let me simply give a message to the counselor, who had interviewed me earlier that day. She wanted me to get back in line. After I had waited for over 2 hours to see a dog that was out in a mobile van. Finally, I had to leave. Another dog was having surgery; i was told to call back on Sunday to see how he was doing. And when he would be s available. But then I was told, when I called a couple of days early, that he had already been adopted. The left hand rarely seems to know what the right hand is doing at this place. it will be a miracle if I adopt any animal from here. On the plus side, the animals are well-cared for, and their fees are reasonable. Too bad they don't afford the clients the same kind of consideration. I live 45 minutes away. I get exhausted driving there and wasting so much time. But I continue to look for a dog.
Never thought a shelter would turn people away from adopting a dog and preventing a dog from having a loving forever home. This place has done it to us 3 separate times (with a border collie, an Aussie Shepard and now a black lab retriever), all under the guise of "because we have small children". All those breeds of dogs mentioned, Ive seen with others or have experienced myself, as being great with kids. Needless to say, I won't be returning back to this place, they have crushed my older kids and my heart too many times. Just a shame and it saddens me. Guess, I will be looking elsewhere for a dog.
An awesome humane society to pick up your next furry pal! They are almost always having some sort of special or sale, so if you're tight on cash definitely ask them and wait for one of those, and give one of these pets a new home!
They have an awesome selection of dogs and cats(especially with their newly made cat section) as well as some rabbits and other small animals I believe.
I would say that the only downsides to this place, which have already been outlined by several other reviews are just parking and staff.
The humane society is around the area of Pasadena which, for whatever reason, always feels like it's impossible to find a parking spot. Coupled with their tiny parking lot, it can be a little bit of a hassle to find parking here. I suggest just driving up and down the street and looking for some street parking. The brewery and luggage room/metro station across the street has a structure that allows ~90 minutes free I believe, but I always feel like it's full.
The staff at this humane society also just doesn't feel very friendly or well informed. I've asked several questions only to check online afterwards and find out that I was given wrong information. On top of that, although the volunteers always seem really brighteyed and happy to help you, sometimes I'm surprised by how unhappy and unwilling to help you the workers are.
Overall good place. I'd strongly recommend going with a full check list of questions. Office staff did not disclose that the cat we adopted was not tested for leukemia or hiv. I called several days later and was told it would've cost forty dollars more but by then it was too late. A little shady.
Getting the kitty tested at the vca in Glendale.
This is where I got bad kitten... lol
Some fool adopted him and brought him back. Their loss... My gain. How do you add a picture
Beautiful facility, clean and the people look after the animals well.
They are pretty amazing, clean, and fast. You can't beat the pricing. I would recommend and encourage everyone to bring their pets here for vaccination or training.
I love this humane society. They treat their animals so well and all the staff are very nice.
