So I just watched a video on youtube on a dog you might remember: Bueller the Bulldog, and it made me cry. It made me cry because all of the hard work you guys put into keeping these animals alive. I live in PA and I went to a SPCA for my dog Arthur. Arthur had many problems when we adopted him and had to go through two surgeries. SPCA did both of those surgeries and was successful. Thank you all SPCA's and expecially The Sacramento SPCA for keeping these poor animals alive. #LoveYouSPCA!!!!

In December of 2017 I saw this adorable chihuahua mix on Good Day Sacramento, something about the pups drew me to him. I went in a few days later, lone and behold he was still there. The staff was amazing, honest and had the details on the dog. A year later and the dog has been amazing. My uncle has cerebral palsy and the dog has been tremendous in his mental health even though he isn't a service dog. I appreciate sac spca for being helpful to making the process easier for a first time dog owner.

I took my puppy to be neutered. The staff was awesome. Even though I was ten minutes late for check in They still took us in. Sito was terrified his first time away from me since he was born. But his best friend was also there so the staff put him in a kennel in which he could see and talk to her. Which helped with both of the dogs stress levels. They were so good to them both.

A wonderful place for rehoming pets! Nice, clean facility with large enclosures for dogs. The program I like is "free seniors for seniors": dogs & cats 5 + years are considered seniors and are free to seniors 65 & up; the animals are micro-chipped, nuetered, vaccinated, veterinarian examined, teeth cleaned if needed, and Advantage flea protected. Same services provided for 'paid for' pets.
There is also a program for the 65+ crowd that offers free yearly vaccinations. Great programs to place more pets and save their lives. .

If I could give this shelter ZERO STARS I absolutely would !!!! This Shelter " took in " over 200+ rabbits from 2 local 4H / youth breeders and now they REFUSE TO RELEASE the animals even after animal control officers approved of a release / relocation site for all the animals. The shelter was given cages and feed by the original owners so that the animals would have minimal digestive upset while in transition. Yet they are still relying on public donations to "raise money" for animals that don't need RESCUING. These animals are in excellent health and have zero nasal or eye discharge their fur is not stained they are free of mats and parasites. Now the spca is demanding over 30k for " care and up keep" even though they have received monies from public donation and feed and supplies from the original owners. These people are wasting their time resources and efforts on animals that did not need RESCUING and they should seriously focus on animals who are truly strays and need help and support. What a bunch of damn crooks trying to make a pretty penny off of some kids that participate in 4H and are minors.

I had such a wonderful experience in adopting a 7mo. old pup, I returned and took their great training to become a volunteer on weekends to prep other pups for adoption.
I returned again to run him through the paces with their Behavioral Specialist Val Masters as he earned his AKC accredited Canine Good Citizenship award.
I still stop by occasionally just to visit.

A wonderful place to get low-cost vaccinations for your pet. Seniors get most of the services for free or reduced price. Your pet will love them - as much as they love any vet, but they will be better off.

Our dog of 14 yrs was having serious medical problems for ie: every time she would take a breath you could see her rib cage. We spent $ 500 + between two vets they kept saying that we need more more tests. Spca staff was very helpful and explained the all the fees involved. This was last friday in December, now during the last mom our youngest son had to remove three cats from his apt due he was moving and the new manager does not all cats. Mike rescued from a 13 year old beagle name SADIE from SPCA- Florin Perkins, she was used as a birthing dog before she was dropped off earlier. Sadie likes to sleep on my wife and I extra bed pillows, scared of fire crackers, loud noise makers!!!!!
I am retired from EDD in Sacramento 2010 then returned till 2014. Served in Vietnam 1967 on Hospital Ship USS Sanctuary AH-17 first crew. Keep up the outstanding work. Sean Kelly

Me and my wife set an appointment for neutering on saturday at 7:15 am. Was called to confirm my appointment. The lady said 3839 Bradshaw. Even wrote it down. We both take the day off from work. Loss of 18 hours overtime each and my dog still is not neutered, received shots, or chpped. All suppose to be done. A volunteer even asked us why were there. AND WHY HAVE A PHONE NUMBER TO A CALL IF IT TAKES A WEEK TO RESPOND. A joke really. No way i would even consider wasting my time again. RECOMENDATION TO OTHERS. Get a normal vet who is concerned about your individual pet, and knows your time is valued. No need for spca to respond you have already wasted my time, caused me to lose money, and due to poor costomer service left my dog un cared for.

Why are you charging so much for boarding the rabbits? Especially when they were healthy to begin with and he owners provided the food. You are holding 4h kids rabbits hostage. What happened to the kits that were left behind and the ones that were taken? Have they survived?

I've been here several times and the experience was great. The first volunteer person we met she was so nice. She let us see the dogs with no problem and explain their situation very clearly. However, not this time...it was horrible. We waited quite long for our number to be called. Finally they called our number, and when we got to the counter this rude lady ( I was not sure if she is a official staff or volunteer) said that we are not qualified because we checked the box indicating that our dogs sleep in the garage or outside. She questioned us so much that make my mom feel extremely uncomfortable. She makes us feel like we are too irresponsible to own a dog. We've owned three dogs before and we do let our dogs come inside, and sleep in the house if the climate change like too hot or too cold. By the way she talks to us we feel extremely discourage to come to this place ever again.

Any place that values our planet and has a full understanding. That we don't "run the house" we share it. Everything is equal in value we are a balance. The shelters. The rescues. SPCA. These jobs are not easy the people who work there are sometimes frowned upon before rewarded. before we completely grasp that the job is a passion. They see cruelty. Abuse. Neglect and death to the innocent little ones at a disturbing percentile. I Have full admiration for the sacrifices they make and support 110%.

After reading all of the horrible reviews, I felt I needed to provide a positive review on behalf of the SPCA. At the end of October 2010, my family and went to look at dogs once again. We were hoping to find a male puppy that my son could grow and bond with. Upon reaching the shelter we took our look around and proceded to check on all dogs. At the time there was a litter of puppies however, the male pups were already on hold. The girl pups were still timid. We decided to take one more look around and found a Terrier mixed puppy about a year old outside who was interested and engaged by my son. We asked if we could see him and play outside with him to see if ouor family had any connection with "Nicholas". It didnt take long for our family to fee llike he was the one. That afternoon we decided to take Nicholas home...He was not all the way potty trained and made some mistakes. However, he is loving and playful and as much a part of our family as if he were our kid. We renamed him R2-D2!
I wanted to say thank you to the staff at the SPCA every day you have to make tough decisions which impact so many lives. I know your position is not easy but for our family you did right. I will always continue to rescue a pet from you rather than buy elsewhere. We all need love and sometimes second chances.

This place is a trap. They charge for spay and neutering, what they don't tell you is that they report you to the city, and soon you will recieve pet licensing enforcement letters of different amounts. Demanding that you pay a certain amount for your pet!? My wife and i have 3 chihuahuas and after getting thin neutered the county sent us letters requesting different amounts for our pets. 3 chihuahua all the same size and wet were told to pay the county 3 different amounts ranging from 45-100 dollars. Each one if our dogs had a different licensing fee???

I have had nothing but good experiences at SSPCA. But I wonder about the negative reviews. I was under the impression that this facility only moves unadopted Angels to rescues. Am I wrong?? I know that our two animal "shelters" are VERY HIGH KILL. This is unconscionable. These are intelligent beings who are full of love to give.

SPCA is an amazing shelter by far in the South Sacramento area. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you are thinking of adopting a cat or dog. We adopted our dog about a week ago. The process was easy and by the way the staff and volunteers are are really nice! Our dog has been a blessing to our home!

The SSPCA is a great place to get a pet. As another reviewer commented, you Fill out an application to make sure you are going to be a responsible pet owner. They take dogs, cats and other animals from Rancho and sacramento and test their behavior to make sure they are going to fit into your home. I think they do a great job, and they will make sure your new pet will fit in with your kids, cats, etc. The staff has always been helpful and nice. Weve adopted two amazing dogs from them, and they are a perfect fit for our family.

After losing the best Dachshund in the entire world, our family decided to adopt another pet. I went in very skeptical, thinking I could never replace my beloved friend. That day, we met a chihuahua that cried every time we walked away from his kennel. Other people were stopping to show him affection and he was very friendly but didn t seem to really be upset when they left. He did it every single time we went over to him. I knew then that he would be a wonderful addition to our pack and he certainly has been. Pilaf Loves to go camping and thrifting, he makes friends wherever he goes. He loves long walks on the beach and licking soft serve cone in the hot summer. He loves his two kitty sisters, they make him feel very welcome by snuggling up with him on the sofa. We got our Star Kitty here as well. Star is famous for not wanting to be touched unless you re invited to pet her. Petting Star could land you a smack if you don t have her permission. However, if you ignore her, she will come sit by you and demand your attention. The only person that can pet her anytime and even boop her nose, is our 16 year old son, who is apparently perfect in Her eyes.

Two and a half years ago, my husband and I went to this shelter looking for a companion to join our small family. We went in looking for one particular dog, and as adorable as he was, another dog stole our hearts, Lucky.
The employees allowed us time to meet him, answered any questions we still had about raising a dog, and after deciding that we wanted to adopt him into our lives, they allowed us to come back at the end of the day so we could buy a proper harness, dog food for him, etc. They washed him up and said their farewells to this lovely little man.
He did have kennel cough when he got home, but thanks to some vet bill support from the shelter, we were able to treat it right away.
Archer (we gave him a more fitting name that he seems to respond to better), is the perfect canine friend and we are so blessed to have him in our lives.
Thank you, SSPCA!

About Sacramento SPCA/C4CC Feral Cat Clinic

The Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Sacramento community since 1894. The organization's mission is to foster a loving and compassionate community for animals by providing shelter, medical care, and adoption services to homeless pets.

One of the most significant initiatives undertaken by SSPCA is the C4CC Feral Cat Clinic. This clinic provides low-cost spay and neuter services for feral cats in the Sacramento area. The clinic operates on a trap-neuter-return (TNR) model, which involves trapping feral cats, sterilizing them, and then returning them to their original location.

The C4CC Feral Cat Clinic was established in response to the growing population of feral cats in Sacramento. These cats are often left unsterilized, leading to overpopulation and an increase in disease transmission. By providing affordable spay/neuter services for these cats, SSPCA aims to reduce their numbers while also improving their overall health.

In addition to its work with feral cats, SSPCA also operates an animal shelter that houses dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. The shelter provides medical care and behavioral training for these animals before they are put up for adoption.

SSPCA's commitment towards animal welfare extends beyond its own facilities as well. The organization works closely with local law enforcement agencies to investigate cases of animal cruelty and neglect in the Sacramento area. It also offers educational programs aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership among community members.

Overall, SSPCA/C4CC Feral Cat Clinic is an essential resource for animal lovers in Sacramento who want to make a positive impact on their local community's welfare. With its focus on spaying/neutering feral cats and providing shelter/adoption services for homeless pets; it has become one of the most respected organizations working towards animal welfare today!
