Took a pet first aid and CPR class at the center. I did not visit the animal holding areas, but we heard the barking. The class was very informative and hands on with big, stuffed animals . The teachers were good, using Power-Point-type presentations, some videos, and then demonstrating and practicing on said "animals." Felt it was information I needed, just in case furry family members need assistance. The humane center offers various classes, public-invited events, volunteer opportunities, and has a small shop for pet items. Of course, their rescue and adoption services are very needed. It has a great reputation from people I've talked to. Please adopt an animal if at all possible. Lots of available critters of several types need good homes.

My cat is dying. Called to see if they can put my friend to sleep.Already went to the vet for options which cost too much $$ and no way that that work. Just $$ for test and let try this and see if works. I want my old friend to suffer unnecessarily and didn t mind waiting but found out the shelter stop offering this service this year. For years it was a great service for people bc vets charge lot $$ and make u wait long time. The shelter did it quickly and respectably unlike the service from outside vets. Greatly disappointed in the board in cancel this service for community.

It is true their adoption process is more exhaustive than trying to adopt a child - and I've done both.

But it's a well-run operation that just needs more focus on training the front desk folks.

Caring staff and volunteers. We adopted a cat and a dog here and have been happy with the whole process. It can get a bit hectic, especially on the weekends, but overall this is a world class shelter with a well deserved reputation.

Called on a Friday after 5pm during the biggest rainstorm in years because I found a stranded baby squirrel. They answered and directed me to the center so they could bring the squirrel to an emergency vet. I am very grateful that they were willing and able to help.

I had came here looking silkie chicken, for my aunt who recently had her husband pass away from cancer. I had checked their website beforehand for chickens since she use to own chickens before her husband death. I had found a chicken that had not been adopted yet. Very beautiful and I got pretty excited since I wanted to surprise her. So I went to the adoption center extremely early and filled out the adoption paperwork. Once I submitted it I went to the kennel where the chicken was detained. They allowed me to spend time with the chicken and pet it. I instantly fell in love. The girl who was helping me told me that we could proceed with the adoption after asking me a series of questions. Once I went to the office, they told me shortly after that all I had to do was sign out then I was done. The moment I was about to take the chicken. A man came storming in claiming that he had already placed a hold on the chicken, that he had came the day before. I was extremely upset because I thought to myself, why would they let me take a chicken that was supposedly on "hold". They told me shortly after that I was no longer able to adopt the chicken and that "it wasnt meant to be" which is pretty messed up since my husband and I planned to surprise my aunt who was grieving. I told them that how is that possible? I spent a whole hour waiting just to adopt and this man that came storming in said that he had first dibs on the adoption. The worst part was that they pretty just told me "oh well" and better luck next time. They did not even bother explaining to the man that I had waited awhile to adopt the chicken as well. I had called the shelter the day before and they did not put notes in the system. They rarely answer their phones. Took me forever to get ahold of them. Then they told me that there was no hold on the chicken. Then I come early the next day, then they tell me that it was a mistake??? How could you let someone bond with an animal for an animal then you then say everything is good to go.. then last minute tell you no?? I had never been so angry at the irresponsibility of a shelter. How do you expect people to adopt if you make the serious mistakes like this? How could you even allow room for mistakes like this to happen? Imagine if it were a child bonding with an animal. You get them all excited then tell them sorry... someone else is taking this animal... it's a terrible feeling. Nonetheless being an adult doesnt make it any better. They had boxed up the chicken ready for me to take... then this man shows up way later to take it??? Then..when I complained they told me.. we can waive the fees if we get another one. I'm like "if?". I told them. When will you get another one... even they were unsure.. PHS really have a way of making you feel worse when they make an error. Do not adopt here unless it is guaranteed the animal is not on "HOLD". First time coming to this shelter and probably my last. I don't want to adopt here if they keep making serious errors like this.

Update:

They did resolve the issue. The managed to get another white silkie for my aunt. They did apologize for the trouble that we went through and went out of their way to fix the issue. So now I have a happy aunt. I appreciate them for taking this into consideration.

I adopted my cat Mahjong the Amazing Wonder Kitten from this facility. I had recently lost my 18 year old cat and was still rather fragile. I was not in any shape to be visiting the usual shelter where your heart is broken every time you see another furry little face. This operation is extremely well run. The animals are well-taken care of, I'd go so far as to say pampered. It is well staffed and attracts many volunteers so the animals are well-groomed, entertained and loved. It was easy for me to find my new fluff ball, who healed my broken heart.

Here you can seem him helping me open a Christmas gift.

The people here are so warm, friendly and inspired by their love of dogs. Be it adopting, working in the gift shop or training, the PHS folks are the best. They'll answer your questions with a smile, and clearly want what's best for every dog in their care. Adopt from here!

Incredible place and treasure in this community. Amazing wealth of services and staff that bend over backwards to help. From emergency services to yearly shots. Not to mention the array of fun animals to adopt.

A happy but sad place to visit, there are a lot of cute dogs and cats there to look at especially if you like Pit Bulls and Chiwawas. We were only looking but if you want a new pet save your money and adopt a pet they need a good home. You can pick a older animal or a young one depending on your wants save them from being put to sleep, remember the only thing you get from a breeder is a piece of paper menny of these pets are more loving then those your can buy.

PS,. They also have rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and even chickens and on your trip who knows what you will find there...

Awesome

The Pasadena SPCA treats their pet wards with the dignity few pet owners do. I wish all pets a forever home with people who love them, but the lucky ones find themselves at the Pasadena SPCA.

My dog's "snip" (spay) experience was uncommonly positive. Very small incision, quick recovery, exceptionally good vet. Scary at first because it's somewhat impersonal at drop off, but I researched the Doc before hand so I knew my dog was going to be in good hands come surgery time. The outcome couldn't have been better. Thank you Pasadena Humane Society.

They're open till 6, drove 40 miles to get there cause i was interested in a dog. got there at 5pm, they wouldnt show the dog even though there was an hour left, told me to come over the next day and drive 40 miles again. their policy is ridicolously strict also, they will wanna call your entiren family tree, stay away there are much better shelters than this where people actually want dogs to have a family

These people here actually care about all the dogs! I adopted a chihuahua mix who was already named "LoLa" . . . ! She is the smartest dog I've ever had & I'm already extremely attached to her. I like how they put a v-chip in her with all mine & my bf's contact info! She walks without a leash & is potty trained. She picks up on words fast & relates them to its action QUICK... SHE IS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED IN A DOG. Perfect size also...shes a little more than a handful, very lightweight. She is extremely obedient & well mannered & a very confident, happy lil thing! I ADORE HER! I LOVE PASADENA HUMANE SOCIETYS & THEIR FREE PET ADOPTION DAY! 5 STARS COMING FROM ME... pictures w/my post are personal ones all of them including my doggy LOLA & then there are ones of her in the cage at the humane society! I included a few pics of this beagle mix i wanted to adopt in the cage but didnt bec i was the 3rd one on the waiting list! The lil fella was already taken...good for him, he didnt belong in solitary confinement either!

I like their facility, clean and a lot of animals to interact with. I have adopted two mature cats from here over the last 10 years. But all the previous reviews are correct in saying that many of the employees need a refresher course on bed-side manners. Yes, there are many people who just want a bunny for Easter or a spur-of-the-moment pet. But shouldn't we be treated as "customers" and given the benefit of the doubt; innocent until proven guilty? Both times I adopted, I was rudely interrogated: have you ever declawed, do you live in an apartment, do you work all day, have you ever returned an animal, do you have allergies, do you allow cats outside. My suggestion: if you are a true-hearted person who really wants to adopt and will do your utmost to keep the animal happy, understand why they want you to answer NO to all these questions, and then just answer "NO" to all the questions!

I was just visiting .. I have a full house of four-legged friends, came to enjoy the residents. As always, I found the environment clean and the staff friendly. I was happy to see that they were not at full capacity by any means. However, there were plenty of pups and kittys ready to become a member of the family!

We are looking to own a pet for the first time. We looked at dogs, obtained "counseling" and followed instructions by staff. We hoped this would help us avoid problems. HOWEVER, the counselor forgot to write the number of the dog on our application and when we showed up (their phone lines were down all day), we were no longer on any waiting list.
Our son cried all the way home because we thought we were getting a dog. It turned out we had to start from scratch and all the dogs he was looking at were on "real" holds or had long waiting lists, on which we of course could not get on.
The staff was ok, but the counselor was downright rude, and now we know, not very helpful.

So much help, so much caring. From instructional seminars, to spay and neuter clinics, adoptions, assistance for the Trap, Neuter, Release community, their help, love and expertise know no bounds. Manned by staff and volunteers who care, above and beyond what their job title calls for, I could not imagine a more dedicated team of professionals. Top notch folks, and unfortunately our world still needs their help desperately. Support them if you can, the voiceless, abandoned, abused and un-cared for need their help. And yours.
