This was my second time here for business and the place was great! Actually it was better then my fist time, better serve. Room was much larger with a great view, very clean which is a must. Happy customer.

If you have issues with access, particularly if you need wheelchair access, go to the back door. It is flat there and then you can take a lift up and go to the front of the building to check in, if that is what you want to do.

Good

I wanted to give 4.5 stars.

I wanted to give 4.5 stars.
First the down sides:
- no disabled access at the front entrance (even a ramp at the side would be acceptable) - you had to go around the back. Which is closer to the lifts - well done them for retrofitting lifts into a 100 year old building :)
- the room ("King") was not _quite_ to the level of "bling" I was lead to expect from a "5 star hotel". It was very nice - so "4 star" - but not quite the level of decadence I was expecting ;)
Enough of that.
The pluses - there are so many!
The staff are *awesome*! They are efficient, courteous, and nothing is "too much trouble". If they can do something - even if it's not their 'job' - they do it. They took ownership of the 'problem'. If they couldn't do the task, they found someone who could. And then checked back later to see if everything was ok. Again, "ownership".
The food was great. Well done Chef(s)!
The place was spotlessly clean. Not only in the rooms, but the common areas as well. Although, I didn't spend much time outside, so I can't comment on the gardens :)
Again, 4.5 stars. This is a great place to stay.

Update Feb-2018: moved from 5 stars to 4. The hotel all but shuts down for an event and hotel guests become second class. There was Qatar Air event and the hotel service disappeared. It would have been nice to be notified of the event in advance but none of the staff provided that accommodation. There was no parking available and movement through the hotel was restricted.

Beautiful, elegant hotel with large rooms that are quiet and well appointed. My bathroom was twice a large as the one in my room at the Sydney Marriott. Staff is helpful and professional. Ample onsite parking is available. I will continue to stay here on my visits to Canberra.

Waited 25 min for valet to get our car, there was a constant loud metal clanging sound throughout the night which caused us to not sleep.
This hotel is all fancy from the exterior but doesn't run well internally, clearly.

I don't say this lightly but although this hotel should boast prestige... It really doesn't! It's a very tired property which is evident when you look at the furnishings and facade. The staff are not very obliging all except the two breakfast staff we encountered being Diane and Airy... Their service was exceptional. After paying $380 a night for a room which was tired in decor it would've been nice to have facilities explained upon check in... I say 'would've been' but clearly expecting too much. I should've expected the worst when we pulled up in the Triton for valet parking, that an ambulance siren could be heard in the distance with the concierge adding that he needed to move the car immediately as it was coming to the hotel! Seriously? I'm sorry that we didn't pull up in the Range Rover and my wife wasn't using her Louis Vuitton clutch but we'd left that at home... High tea was another let down... After sitting there for 15 minutes after enquiring with Kristina on how to order, we sat down for 15 minutes before finally being given a menu, and it was another 10 minutes before our order was actually taken! I know that you may not care and that my $1000 spent over the weekend may not mean a great deal with your overall hotel revenue but for a hotel chain that prides itself with brand, prestige and service then all I can say is that you certainly fall down in those very areas which you are supposed to be renowned for...

Unfortunately not what I would call a 5 star Hotel, I have stayed at many 5 star Hotels in the past and this experience to me was 4 star level only. To be told on arrival that I would have to park the car myself or pay more, I was blown away as i was already paying the highest room rate in Canberra for a 5 Star Hotel , never have I been told this before at other 5 Star Hotel chains. The cost of the meals to the portions was totally disgraceful, while it was nice to pay $52 and just get a piece of meat, half a fried tomato and a hand full of chips is just beyond ridiculous. I ended up leaving and going to find food to fill us up after dinner. The coffee pod machine in the room, the milk warmer stank of off milk as it was not cleaned properly and had old off milk stuck in the lid. Not that we could have made a coffee anyway as there was not enough milk in the room to even be able to make one coffee using the machine. I know times are tough at the moment but when you are paying the highest room rate for a 5 star Hotel you should get a 5 star Hotel. Thankfully the staff were polite and nice, just a shame that Hyatt Canberra no longer offers a 5 Star stay.

I wound up having a family emergency and cancelled the whole trip to Canberra and cancelled the reservation on the 5th for a check in on the 7th. Because of the time change from America they didn t care as it was only 28 hours from check in. The lady at the desk treated me like I was a liar and wanted me to go get proof of the family issue and send it to them to issue a refund. Like I m going to send these muppets my personal family medical records to save $180 fee to prove something to them. Worst customer experience. Glad I m Titanium Ambassador status with Marriott and will chalk up this experience to the avoid Hyatt hotels bucket for future travel. I didn t realize they were that desperate to make money that they need every penny they can get. I feel sorry for them really.

It's pretty well maintained hotel with lots of parking space around it. We stayed here for two nights over a long weekend. It's a driving distance to all the restaurants and nightlifes in Canberra. You could walk to Black Mountains and the Telstra tower but it's a fair walk round trip, 15km or so. If you search google map, it directs you to get on the main drive way, but we did go through the bushes. You can ultimately get there, just takes a bit of navigating. We encountered kangaroo along the way, hoping to see a wombat but did not get any luck.

what a delight to stay in such beautiful historic building, although our room was a little bit tired and was in need of a bit of a revamp the wonderful service more than made up for it. I highly recommend staying here we will be back!

Had Christmas buffet lunch at the Promenade Cafe. Service was excellent and the food was up to its usual high standard. However, you will be very hard pressed if you're after value for money here as the price is at the very high end of buffet prices and does not include drinks.

I spent a day at the Hyatt Canberra for a professional conference. The venue was lovely and the catering delicious. Walking past the dining area and seeing the buffet breakfast on the way in made me wish I were a guest there!
