The easy part of this would be to say this is a great place for a staycation....and it truly is. The rooms, restaurants and staff are top notch all around. The more complex part would be to point out a separate and largely undiscovered strength of the resort. For the last two people out there without access to Google Maps....San Diego has two bays open to the ocean and Paradise Point sits in the middle of one of them: Mission Bay. Mission Bay has been home to everything from Thunder Boat Races to the OMBAC Over-The-Line Tournament; it's home to Seaworld and their nightly fireworks show over the bay. Billed as the "The World's Finest Aquatic Playground," there are about 11 marinas and 8 hotels and resorts on Mission Bay. In all that, the only truly boater friendly hotel/resort I've found on Mission Bay is Paradise Point. The watersports dock crew welcomes arriving boaters, is informed about process for arriving boaters from overnight stays to daily docking to go to one of the restaurants on the resort grounds. Sadly, apart from Paradise Point, Mission Bay has virtually no real boater-friendly facilities. San Diego's boating community can't compare to the likes of Seattle or about any city in Florida which is truly disappointing given the potential of Mission Bay (not to mention the "Big Bay") but we simply don't take advantage of this natural treasure like we should so when I find a place like Paradise Point which clearly welcomes boaters and understands their needs, I think it's important to let people know. To point out the amazing views from the resort grounds or the really nice rooms or something outstanding like the Ahi tostadas or osso bucco nachos at the Barefoot Bar wouldn't do Paradise Point justice if I couldn't point out that this is the one place on Mission bay where local boaters can dream of a real boating community friendly place here in San Diego!
