I called on Tuesday to make an appointment with Dr. Cole. I saw him Wednesday afternoon (they could have seen me Tuesday, but I was unavailable). After my exam, I worked with Kim. She handed me my prescription without my asking, checked my insurance benefits, priced out some glasses (with no pressure), and ordered a frame that wasn't in stock, because she thought I would like it! Excellent customer service!

Dr. Earley took the time to explain to me what each test was for and the importance of the yearly eye exam. Honestly one of the best experiences I've had with an eye doctor in quite a long time. Will be back for sure!
Terrible service for contacts. I'll just say it was really bad and the contact 'expert' for fitting was not helpful at all. Saying 'Just put them in' isn't going to help if you're struggling. This wasn't my first time here, bad service for glasses too. Really pushy front staff person telling me what I want from their tiny selection of eyeglasses. The doctor was very good, but save your time and go somewhere else.
I would never recommend Oakdale Optical!! I spent $1000 there on eye glasses for my kids. Dr. Meghan Early gave me a prescription for contacts, won t change my contact brand without another contact fitting and wants to charge me another $80. Ridiculous
I have been going here for years. Dr. Cole is the best!! He is very good at what he does and very personable, I recommend him to everyone. The lady that helps fit glasses (Kim), is very good at what she does, she has a knack for envisioning what frames look good on your face
DO NOT USE THESE GUYS!!!! YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! Long story short......after 3 months of waiting, still NO GLASSES!!! There was paperwork issues, payment issues (which was untrue, as I showed the payment going thru on 3 different occasions!) Every time I called, the person I spoke to said it wasn't her issue and she said someone would call me back-----GUESS WHAT.... NO PHONE CALLS BACK!!! Now I am trying to get a refund which I'm sure will take 6 months. Worst service ever!!!! Very Sad!
This place has continued to go down hill. I didn t receive a pair of glasses I waited for 2 months for and am being billed for. Have talked to Josh 3 times and left messages which they never return. I m trying to reach the billing department but they never answer or return calls. I will not return.
They have no customer service experience at all. I placed an order for new eye glasses for my daughter on 11/29/2012 and the fax didn't go through. I then called 1month later to ask where her new eye glasses were that I made a down payment on and it was like pulling a stubborn tooth out to get it figured out of what even happen. I have left several messages with no return calls... As of today, 1/9/13 I still have never heard back from them and they have NOT returned any of my many messages. I am beyond Livid and they don't even care... I have been going to this Optical office for many years and have never had an experience quite like this. They will probably lose my Business! Their Loss!
I see all these below average reviews and cannot relate. I went here because they are vsp and didn't expect much since there location is small... was I wrong. The doctor who did my eye exam was hilarious she was very good and got my eyes dialed in perfectly. The staff in the front was also extremely helpful and I got the glasses I wanted and couldn't be happier. To the people who see the other reviews don't use them as a reason to go elsewhere.
This place was great to go to in the past, but the new people now do not know what they are doing. They charge a lot of money for services that are below average. They forgot to order my trial contacts, could not figure out why I couldn't see with my prescription when my contacts were in and they had just done a a test knowing my contacts were in, and they couldn't even explain my charges to me because they did not understand them.
I went to Oakdale optical today for the first time and I had a fantastic experience. Front staff and the Dr. were both professional, knowledgeable and fun. I am very happy with the service I was provided. I look for local businesses versus big box and am quite picky when service isn't up to par, Oakdale Optical did a remarkable job, I highly recommend them.
If I had the choice between coming here for glasses and getting lasik in China, I would book the flight to have the surgery. Save yourself money, time, and aggravation, and stay away from this place.
I went here for saftey glasses through my work BIG mistake. First there was an issue with the paperwork I was given from work and no that isn't the fault of Oakdale Optical but when they realized it was wrong they never contacted me. When a coworker went here after me and got his glasses back before me I called and that is when I found out there was trouble with the paperwork. I straighten that out and then they didn't put in the correct paperwork so I waited and waited and waited for my glasses. I say find another option I won't be back that is for certain.
While I had a good experience with Dr. Cole, everything else at this eye clinic is 1 star. The opticians are fine about helping you pick out frames but barely bother to fit them or adjust them and the marking on a new air for the main focus area was done rather sloppily, and I can tell in the new glasses. We are 8 months into new glasses and the frames, tho expensive, are low-quality. The lenses have fallen out 3 times and the screws come out of the bows 4 times. The worst part of the experience is working with their billing. First off, never give them your regular health insurance info if your eye coverage is through a separate service (they're gonna ask for it). They tried to bill my regular insurance for some services (which weren't covered by my health plan) which added confusion. I have insurance through VSP, which they did verify, but my bills did not match the payment amounts I should be paying according to the VSP coverage. The bills themselves have cryptic line items, so it was very hard to interpret. Billing doesn't return phone calls at all. I called at least 3 times and came in-person with photocopies of my bills and notes from my calls with VSP. A billing person wasn't in at the time, so I was promised they'd look into it and call me back. From March through August I got zero call backs from the clinic or the billing department to resolve this (just got repeat bills in the mail). It took a VSP customer service person calling the clinic's billing to straighten it out because even VSP couldn't figure out what they were billing for.
omg, the receptionist is dumber than a box of rocks, the doctors are awesome but the other staff is horrible. they lie and tell u what they think u wanna here. Need i say more
1 star is too generous. My 6 yo has been having trouble seeing in school. We scheduled an apt for glasses a week before Christmas. After a few weeks, I called to check on the status, they said my insurance info needed to be updated, so I gave them my insurance card for a 2nd time (1st time was during the exam). Still no call through January 20, so I called again. They said someone would review my file and get back to me, no one called me that day. The next day, I called again, and was told I have no material coverage and everything is out of pocket. I explained that I do have materials coverage because I recently got glasses through America's Best. I even verified with my insurance company before coming to Oakdale Eye Clinic for eye wear coverage, eye exam was done at Allina. She then took 10 minutes to verify and confirm my son's eye coverage for exam and materials through Spectera (1 of 4 eye vendors they go through), something they could have done from the beginning. It took 1.5 month to even order my son's glasses. She admit they dropped the ball on me and will put a rush order in.
I think their number here is not a working number, I have called them several times, left messages but no one is calling back regarding the new pair of eyewear I got, that has been bugging me since I got them. The lens don't fit to my reading spot, it was just a small portion of the lens, unlike my old one, was fit by the lady that was not there anymore, and is the one I am wearing now, regardless that I have a new pair. We will explore other optical centers next year. We spent a great deal this year....for nothing!
Jamie is a gem! She very professionally guides you through the very difficult process of selecting your frames with great care and patience. Excellent staff, but she's the best.
The doctor was fine but the office staff is a JOKE!!! Attempted to get my contact prescription from them and after 3 tries they sent the wrong one. First time they sent it without the information that is needed to order contacts (just the strength but not base curve and diameter). I expressly stated that I needed the prescription information to order contacts. The next try they sent my eyeglass prescription strength with the contact information (my contacts are slightly stronger than my glasses). The third try they just resent what was done on the second try. Luckily I can merge the two sets of information and get what I need so I never have to deal with these people again!!!
I am completely shocked by the negative reviews. I absolutely love Oakdale Optical! I've been in twice now and have had nothing but excellent customer service and great visits. Every staff member I worked with treated me with respect and were all extremely friendly and very helpful. The receptionist, optician, and Dr. Cole were all awesome. I've been recommending Oakdale Optical to my family, friends, and coworkers. Will definitely continue to come here!
Edited 2018: Not sure what the deal is here. We had issues with the staff. I told the eye glass lady we had to wait until Saturday to pay. We found on Saturday we just couldn't make it in, so we called to pay. The front desk told my husband we didn't have to pay and they will order them. And then he asked for the name of the Dr. that my daughter was supposed to get referred to... they didn't have time and someone else will call on Monday about that.
I called back Saturday to confirm we didn't have to pay for the glasses and made sure we couldn't get the Drs. Name. The person on the phone told me that I would have to talk to the eye glass lady on Monday they were to busy and the glasses would be ordered on Monday because they were leaving soon. (which I thought was weird)
Monday... Nope... I had to pay and they were not ordered. And they looked up the Drs name gave me that... but it is a different doctor then Cole had said. And she said the referal went through. The referal clinic doesn't have a referal from them but I made an appt anyhow. We are in a hurry because my Ddaughter is in the process of getting ready for another surgery. (this is taking tooo long)
They could be so much better.... I'm not sure what the deal is. I just felt like I was being lied to about the payment of glasses and they didn't want to do there work.
Going to call today to see if glasses are in yet. It's been a week if they were ordered on Monday I guess. ________________________________________________________________
So far so good. They do not have a huge selection of glasses so I usually go to another place to get the glasses and frames. But this time we were just getting lens put into my daughters old frames. They said they could do it. Haven't picked up yet.
We usually go to Cottage Grove Eye Clinic, there was some issues with the paperwork... pulled file from Oakdale back to Cottage Grove before I could pay for them, I had to wait about a week to pay. Which was fine. The issue came in where there wasn't any communication. The person that pulled the file early also pulled out all info that was needed to order the new lenses.
So other then the office staff I've had no issues and even that was an easy fix.
PS.. Cole is a great doc with my kids. Catches everything that is needed.. checks everything that is needed. Very nice.
Terrible service. Left a message and no return call. Finally ordered glasses and waited for three weeks and called to check the status. Found out never ordered the glasses and did not even call me back for the status. When I asked why I did not get the notification about the order status, hung up on me. Never experienced doing the business like this.
The service has gone downhill. I used to love coming here, even though the frame selection was small, because I liked Dr. Cole and the rest of the staff so much. Not anymore. Current staff is not of the same caliber. Calls don't get returned, billing questions are not forwarded to the billing person (I was never told by Oakdale staff to call the Woodbury location, which apparently is where the billing person is) so it took MONTHS for me to figure out what was going on. To top it all off, I was diagnosed with an eye condition I was never told about by the doctor, and only learned about because I questioned why my insurance didn't cover my exam. I am so done with this clinic.
