What a great bike store my daughter is starting university and I needed a bike helmet for her. The store was closed but the owner was in parking lot and opened the store to find exactly what I needed for a good price. I will definitely be back

I went there with my brand new carbon before the summer because one of my chain link was bent. They ended up changing the chain what was fine, but they also changed the cable and housing of the rear derailer when there was absolutely no need to. As I said my bike was brand new. I didn't bother too much about it at first until I realized that they didn't use the proper cable and housing kit . The kit to get the same quality would now cost me 100$. They never told me they were to change the cable and also never said it would be with low end component. Overall their service is fine but it is definitively not an high end bike shop! Be careful!!!
Super stoked on my recent E-Bike purchase. Great shop and great customer service. What solidified my purchase was to see all of the people coming in for questions and their team having the time to answer them. Thank you to Oak Bay Bicycles and Susan, Shem and Scott for their help.
I always find the OBB shop staff to be friendly and helpful. Today, my rear rim blew out when tire pressure was set to 90psi. Through break rear and fatigue on an older Mavic rim it finally gave out - who knew this was even possible? Anyway, quick trip to the shop and Emma and another mechanic colleague (sorry his name escapes me) gave me some replacement options and then quickly swapped over my cassette and tire while I waited. Thank you for the quick turnaround and great service! Paul
great location for buying bikes! i also find they are good at fixing bikes without charging too much so its all around a great place to buy bikes and also get them fixed
You know what they say: "One bad apple ruins the bunch". Most staff are friendly and knowledgeable, while some are pretentious and elitist with little interest in customer service. Good selection but prices are slightly above average. Feel like I'm paying more for their 2300 sq.ft. boutique real estate experience in Oak Bay than a true to its roots cycle shop. Leave the "is that all?" attitude behind in Oak Bay, more authentic bike culture and friendlier faces elsewhere.
A great team of professionals who's passion is bikes. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful people, who are always there - whether you need sales advice or service for your bike. Thanks a lot! Huge shout-out to Shem!
I've known Karl....the owner....for several years. I own my own shop and don't give shops reviews unless they are the real deal! Karl is community involved. Hard to find that anywhere in any business...they usually send out the minions. Awesome mechanics, great selection...etc. When I travel north I have plenty of shops I can drop my money on if I have an issue. Maybe I just need a tube....I don't get treated with a " is that all?" attitude but a genuine caring of a bicycle rider. For that matter,If I lived on the mainland....and Mighty Riders didn't have it...I'd do a scenic trip and go see Oak Bay! Then do an island ride on the Goose. There's only one person there that knows me and if he's not in...I'm still treated with respect and a friendly 'hello". These folks are on the ball. A true pro shop that's family orientated and staffed by true enthusiasts. No snobs here!
Professional staff. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Carson in the mechanical division is true testament why this is one of the best bike stores in Victoria.
I sometimes walk in to just browse the dream mountain bikes that i will someday buy; Even though they know i'm not buying anything they are always super friendly and take time to talk shop with me. I haven't bought a bike yet as i don't have time to ride with young kids, but once they get older me and the boys will definitely be buying our bikes here
Great bikes, great service. Got me back on my bike quickly after a crash, and it was as good as new. OBB is super supportive of the local cycling scene, which is a big plus.
Wretched service today. Their so-called pick up boy named, I think, Garth was disrespectful beyond belief on the phone to me. What a cad! I wrote the owner and manager about this travesty when, we had only been using this company for the 5 years we have lived in Oak Bay. Only this company. Someone called me back, and when I said, "you have to apologize before I use your service agin", nothing came back from them. So, the story on the street in Oak Bay that they are snobby and snotty, has been revealed to us and we will take our bikes somewhere else. shame on Harth on the phone, but shame on the company. Goodbye.
My bike literally came out worse after taking it in. Wanted to speak to a salesman about buying an Ibis, he argued with me that it was too expensive... When i dropped my bike off, the mechanics convinced this guy that he needs a full rebuild on his fork each year even though he rode 15 times. Awful experience, wont be going back.
Stopped in today as i like getting t shirts from bike shops when I travel. Wasn t much to pick from in the men s section.
They did have a good selection of bikes and gear and the staff all seemed friendly and knowledgeable. I d definitely consider them if I lived in the area and was looking for a bike.
I wanted to say a huge thank you to Jon and everyone at Oak Bay Bicycles for helping us big time with our pedal drive setup prior to the Race to Alaska. Jon went above and beyond our wildest expectations to help us, even with an unrealistic timeline for when it all needed to be done. We didn't even know which option we wanted or what would work, Jon just made it happen. And when it came time for the bill, Oak Bay Bicycles was way more than fair with pricing. Thank you from all of us on Team Angry Beaver!
I've been a loyal customer for 10+ years due to the customer service and attention to detail by everyone at OBB. There have been countless times where the staff have gone above and beyond in making my experience nothing short of fantastic. Whether it's a quick turnaround on a repair to get me back rolling, bringing in an item/part/accessory that is difficult to locate, or providing me with an awesome bike fit to get the most out of my riding position, I can't recommend Oak Bay Bikes enough.
Purchased a 2017 Specialized Stumpjumper 29er last year. A year out I'm impressed with OBB post-purchase care and servicing. The bike is working great. On my first visit the staff were less helpful, but on the second visit (when I purchased the bike) the manager was the one who helped me out and gave me a good deal on the bike that I now love!
I wanted to thank Oak Bay bikes for being an amazing bike shop. I always get too notch customer service from sales and the service department. Also a shout out to Carson in the repair shop, he's always friend and very helpful. Thanks OBB. Hopefully the owner reads this so he can thank him for me.
Best bike store on the island. Bought 4 bikes there so far since 2008. Free warranty tunes for a year (obviously not if you crash it etc.) friendly knowledgable staff that helps when you need. Not pushy at all and very informative.
Recently bought my second bike at OBC and have been very happy with the sales people. Also had my bike recently serviced under the warranty and was very happy with the quality of service from the mechanics. When people ask me about buying a bike I always direct them towards a store rather than a brand and OBC is often that store.
Purchased a Santa Cruz Chameleon. The staff were very helpful with sizing, setting up the bike for a test. They offered to setup the suspension based on my size and riding style. They were very knowledgable about the bike I was purchasing, discussed the key features with me and helped me order the spare parts I would need. They discussed local trails and riding locations with me. There was a tag on the bike for the local Mountain Biking support group to get more info on the area and to support the local trails. A great experience and I would recommend Oak Bay Bikes to anyone looking for a new bike or services.
Best bike store on the island for sure! Most friendly people I know everyone is upbeat and great people. Great prices and good selection. I highly recommend coming here. I came in for a tune up and the next day I got my bike back as good as new.
Everything you say can and will be used against you! Use your right to remain silent!
Bought a Park Tools Torque tool. Used it on a wrong screw and it snapped. Tool was for T10, screw T15. Worked with a cheap T10 tool that came with a bike. The guy looked up the component and told me with an arrogant attitude to always look up what the right component is. He said he is trying if it goes through warranty but never came back to me. Guess he never tried. I contacted Park Tools two months later telling the whole story and got a replacement. Two stars as they have a good selection of parts. Would use it again if no other bike shop in town has the part I need.
Wonderful service particularly considering the COVID 19 requirements and how busy they are. Bought a bike, got another one tuned up and had a seamless experience.
Friendly staff, knowledgable and helpful. Great selection and competitive prices. Their support of the Victoria Wheelers Cycling Club is second to none!
Organized friendly and efficient. Knowledgeable. The biggest surprise was such reasonable prices (besides the $10,000. bike lmao). It seems to always be the first place anyone suggests when I ask. Great job #oakbaycycles
Service has been spotty in my experience. My first encounter was having a luggage rack installed on my bike and I was happy with their price. My second encounter was getting my brakes replaced, also satisfactory. My third was having a failing drivetrain replaced. Contrary to my discussion witht he employee they tuned the brakes but did not replace the drivetrain. They attempted to charge me $80 for this service, I refused to pay and demanded the agreed upon work be performed. They then replaced the gears on the rear wheel and did not replace the chain or front gears. The drivetrain is now slipping again and the replacement part has been worn out by the old chain. I will not be going to them for repairs in the future.
Great customer service, I got great help from them. Talk to Lee, he makes sure you buy the right bike. Unfortunately I did end up buying a bike from somewhere else, but I have to say that Lee provided me with great service and he was very patient.
Had an issue with spokes breaking on the wheel of a bike I purchased a few months back from OBB. They took the bike in, replaced the entire wheel free of charge, and gave it back to me the same day. Good service and they stand behind their product. Thanks OBB!
Thank you oak bay bikes for being good to meeee. I went to broad street bikes and felt marginalized by bikey hipsters. Oak bay liked my old school specialized that was in desparate need of love. They fixed er up good and cheap and now she runs great. Yaaay for oak bay bicycles!
Went here to only get a flat tire fixed... The guy fixed the flat.... but he also (unasked) messed around with the breaks and consequentially sent me off with no rear break function... said I would need to come back to get them fixed.. Didn't realise until I was riding home that the break was completely not working.
I never went back as I couldn't trust my bike with the repair guy..
Great customer service. They have a trade in program for kids bikes which is great. Not the cheapest in town but I feel the service and quality are worth a few extra bucks
Just picked up my bike from service this afternoon and it was first class as is typical at OBB. It is rare for me to post, but I felt I owed it to the sales and service staff.
I have bought numerous mountain bikes from Scott over the years and every one I have bought on his recommendation I have purchased without a demo, and sight unseen, as he is pro at recommending what works for a person's riding preferences and their budget.
All of my servicing is done at OBB and it is always ready on or before the tech says, and whatever service has been performed provides me that new bike feeling next time I pedal. Thank you!
I was on a long ride out to the potholes from Victoria yesterday and on the way home I had my 2nd flat!! I rode on my rim for the last few kms into Langford hoping the store would be open and to my surprise, the female cashier (don't know her name) was letting the last customer out at almost 6:15pm (well past closing). I quickly explained my situation and she happily let me in. Todd (the mechanic) fixed my flat, replaced my tire and I was on my way home in record time. I'm so grateful for their kindness!
I bought my first road bike from OBB nearly two years ago and made most of my gear purchases from them as well. Throughout this time, I have found the service to be unreliable. Some sales people were helpful. Others were dismissive and seemed to be judging me based on my appearance and/or gender. They also seem to contradict themselves: one bike mechanic at the Langford branch did something and then someone at the Oak Bay branch saw it and fixed it. Why wasn't it done correctly the first time? And why did I have to pay for both of their time?
Now that I know more about bikes, parts, and gear, I can see that the staff has made poor recommendations to me. They also don't have a very wide variety of products, which is probably why they made recommendations to me that weren't ideal.
Additionally, I had my bike serviced there and the mechanic did not tighten my handle bars well enough, which resulted in me almost having a bad accident. Also, the way my cables were set up was faulty resulting in fraying after just a few weeks of riding. I had to have the brake cables changed mid trip because they were about to break.
After longstanding loyal service to them, I have decided to bring my business elsewhere. I have given them enough chances to redeem themselves, and it doesn't get better.
Needed a stiff pedal taken off. JK bicyleitis said that it would cost 10 bucks. Took it to oak bay bikes and they did it for free - took them about 20 seconds. Highly recommend this store.
I have been dealing with Oak Bay Bikes, Oak Bay for 4 years and have been more than satisfied with the sales and service team. The service is friendly and thorough and when I've had issues they are dealt with promptly and with respect. They are great supporters of the local cycling community and encourage participation in cycling at all levels from beginner to racer. I have referred many friends who have been satisfied as well. A great local business that I am happy and proud to support.
Despite not being able to service our bikes, they gave us recommendations about what we could do. I appreciated their time and efforts. Would go back or recommend to friends.
Brought my bike in for servicing. Dropping it off was efficient and friendly. They called after doing a pre-service inspection noting a few issues and had a quote ready. The bill for servicing, parts and labour came in under the quoted price. No complaints.
I haven't been into this perticular location but on the phone the staff are exceptionally friendly and address all your questions and go above and beyond to try to help you out.
Had a few issues with my new e bike they dealt it professionally and promptly. Even offered to pick my e bike up at my house.I was in Sidney. Oak Bay Bikes number one in my books!!
This place is alright, obivously it's hard to find bikes for kids right now but they seemed to have the best selection (more than 1 in store!!!). I did find the whole process of booking appointments or getting info confusing, I just want to take to somebody on the phone. I did just drop by unannounced after getting nowhere and they were not busy so I was able to wash up and go in. Maybe review your answering service as I got the impression that they weren't accepting drop-ins. Otherwise I was able to get some of the parts i wanted so goodie.
OBB is my local bike shop. Just this weekend I brought my roadie in to have a new derailleur hanger installed. No charge and the did it while I waited! Great service. Done in minutes. Thanks Cory!
Got two bikes from them, they use to be alright, but unfortunately will not go back. Service department is looking for business. Disappointed with their unconfined estimates. Maybe is the situation at the moment.
Weak points: Made an appointment to be fitted for a new bicycle, waited two weeks, and then was told on appointment day that they were double booked and that I didn't really need to be fitted anyway. Looked at few bikes and got the distinct impression the sales person was trying to sell me a bike rather than helping me find a bike that was the right fit. Some staff are super friendly and helpful, some staff are less than helpful. Their strong points: they have an excellent selection of accessories. So, if you looking for a wide selection of accessories, it's a good place to go, but I do not recommend buying a bicycle from them.
I have dealt with OBB exclusively for 12 years. I have bought numerous bikes there for myself & my granddaughters. I keep coming back because the service & knowledge of the staff is beyond compare. They are all super friendly too. Thanks to Liz, the clothing for women is fantastic! I also think the men's gear is great too. They have always stood behind the products they carry. I had an issue with the internal shifting on one of my bikes a few years ago & had to take it back in numerous times. (The bike was only a couple months old.) It had become pretty frustrating. Karl, the owner, got involved & said to one of the mechanics that to change whatever needed changing & not to let it out of the shop till it was fixed! (it was a bit of a tricky fix) I did not pay for the labour & the bike has been great since. Yay for OBB!
Awesome experience. Highly recommend this bike shop!!
The staff are super friendly and very helpful. I took my daughter there to find her a new kids bike. One of the staff members Rebecca was extremely helpful in getting us the right fit.
They are so great here. I knew nothing about cycling and I left knowledgeable and with everything I needed. I recently went in because I had a flat and they walked me through every step on to what to do. Got me everything I needed.
Honestly I'm super stoked with this place. My bike needed a service which it looked like it hadn't had since the 80s. The mechanic was amazing and worked with me to discuss budget and layed out all the costs upfront. With the limited budget they worked within it and now my bike runs great! Feels like a brand new bike and I couldn't be happier. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a bike service or fix.
Friendly staff, helpful and thoughtful, cool merch, I was all happy with my new bell and my new lights and all the other good stuff I bought there. Incl. my awesome bike, of course. You should go there.
