I bought my first road bike from OBB nearly two years ago and made most of my gear purchases from them as well. Throughout this time, I have found the service to be unreliable. Some sales people were helpful. Others were dismissive and seemed to be judging me based on my appearance and/or gender. They also seem to contradict themselves: one bike mechanic at the Langford branch did something and then someone at the Oak Bay branch saw it and fixed it. Why wasn't it done correctly the first time? And why did I have to pay for both of their time?

Now that I know more about bikes, parts, and gear, I can see that the staff has made poor recommendations to me. They also don't have a very wide variety of products, which is probably why they made recommendations to me that weren't ideal.

Additionally, I had my bike serviced there and the mechanic did not tighten my handle bars well enough, which resulted in me almost having a bad accident. Also, the way my cables were set up was faulty resulting in fraying after just a few weeks of riding. I had to have the brake cables changed mid trip because they were about to break.

After longstanding loyal service to them, I have decided to bring my business elsewhere. I have given them enough chances to redeem themselves, and it doesn't get better.
