I had a couple pretty bad encounters with a service advisor at the quick lane department. I was contacted by the dealership and my situation was escalated. unfortunately it was accidentally escalated to the person who I had the bad interaction with and I wrote a terrible review!
Heather, the service manager at the dealership was quick to act and called me about the issues I was experiencing. She convinced me to give the dealership another shot and I am super happy I did!
I brought my car into the dealership service center and although we couldn't recreate the noise, the service tech said everything I was describing sounded like my struts, so they replaced them as they were covered under warranty. happy to say this is day 2 and the sound is gone.
So thank you to Keith for escalating my issue & to Heather (and Andy!!) for listening to my concerns and identifying the issue. you definitely changed my initial opinion of the dealership and fixed my problem. you are all good people and I am excited to continue to build our relationship. :)

Don't take your grandma because they will steal her purse. I could rant but the average review says a lot. If it is above 3...they are paying people to write reviews.
I've always had my Fusion serviced at NorthStar (I purchased it there too). The QuickLane is super convenient - walk over to the mall or just grab a coffee and they are done in no time! Straight up explanation of everything and service with a smile!
I recently went to NorthStar Ford for the second time and had the pleasure of working with Chris Reynolds and many of the other people there like Ken in finance. They spent the entire day helping me working with my less than perfect credit to get me into a car I could afford. They gave me a great value on my trade in and I couldn't be happier with both the awesome service I was given and the great car I got to drive away in. Both experiences were awesome. Thank you NorthStar I will be a return customer who will let all my friends and family know that your the best dealership around hands down!
'Just had an awesome Service experience at NorthStar Ford!! We needed help and they were there for us! Great customer service - from start to finish! Thank you!!
I would leave a zero but there isn't one. Unwilling to work with my mother who is elderly and would not listen to her and kept interrupting when she tried to trade in a car she got from there a few months earlier. Very rude!
I have never had any problems as a customer at Northstar Ford. Fast service when I have issues with my Leased Fusion. They have my full confidence when working with my family and friends.
Thank you Matt Coy for a wonderful 1st time car buying experience. I love my new ride and am very happy to be a valued customer of NorthStar Ford Duluth. Much Appretiation =)
Very happy with my Ford Focus I purchased about a month ago from Northstar Ford. Joseph "Bulldog" Kaufhold was an excellent salesman as I was nervous at first, he made my experience pressure free and was very helpful and honest. Told him my situation with needing a reliable vehicle for my children and I and he having children himself was very understanding and found me a car that suited my needs. I would 100% recommend this dealership and Joseph to any friends or family members who are looking to purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle. Thanks again Joseph!
The service is great! Ryan Carlson and his team really know how to take care of their customers. Dave Rutherford is my sales guy and you can tell he cares about customer satisfaction. Good follow-up on all of my questions/concerns, no b.s. The finance team is also top notch. We have worked with both Mike and Kevin over the years and both are pleasant, professional and just good guys overall. My experience getting my vehicles serviced at NorthStar has also been professional and fair. I will continue to buy/lease from Northstar Ford!
The service department over charges on parts. Also I had to call to get an update on my vehicle because of course they did not call back to update me like they said they would and I found out parts did not come in like they said they would. So now my vehicle has to stay another night. Very poor service. I have never heard anything good come from Northstar Ford
I just want to take a minute to let you know that I had a great experience working with Matt Coy a couple months ago when we purchased our second Ford Edge. He did a great job answering all our questions and ensuring we received a fair deal. Thanks! Tom P.
Horrible experience. Once they put you in a vehicle (any one of their choice, not yours) you re stuck. At a way above market value price, the worst interest rate possible, and high monthly payments. From here, out you will be spoken to rudely, if not over all ignored, and they will not care if you re unsatisfied. Because they got what they wanted from you, and you serve no further use, and will be treated as so. I will not be purchasing another car/suv/truck ever, again from any ford dealership lost a customer for life.
Hubby and I stopped by the dealership today to just look at an Edge ST. We currently own an Explorer and are thinking of downsizing. Kadin Ferguson happen to walk over to us in the lot and ask if he could help. We are just visiting this week from Hudson, WI and were up front and told him that we were just looking. Hubby decided that he would like to test drive one of the cars in the lot, but that we wouldn't be interested in buying at this time. I certainly didn't want to waste Kadin's time if we weren't buying but he was very gracious and understood and said he would be happy to get the keys.
During the test drive I could sense that Kadin was very respectful, courteous and had a great understanding of customer service. If we were looking for a vehicle in Duluth, we would of certainly go with Kadin as a salesperson. He was very knowledgeable and extremely polite! Keep it up Kadin!
Thank you Matt Coy. We have purchased six vehicles from you and Northstar Ford. We are to the point where there is no need to look anywhere else we just call you. Thank you for all your help.
I cannot say enough about the excellent service we have received from Matt Coy at NorthStar Ford. We have purchased several vehicles from Matt Coy in the past few years and he has been extremely efficient, knowledgeable, and willing to work with our requests, timeline, and price range. He is our go to salesman! Thanks Matt Coy for all you do to make our car buying painless and fun!
Customer service is bad. Live 75 miles away called a few days ahead, employee said they would have what we needed when we came in. They did not live up to that promise. Had to wait and wait. This has happened twice now. Very disappointing.
Whole crew did a great job. Keith Nelson listened to our needs and wants and helped us find an amazing truck within our budget. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to say hi and ask if there was anything they could do to help out. They know what customer service is and how to build relationships. We would recommend NorthStar Ford to our friends and family and would return without hesitation for future needs!
Fast courteous car shopping answered all my questions and also shopped around and found me the best financing place. I will defiantly Be buying my next vehicle from Matt Coy at Northstar Ford!
I bought a 2014 Ford F-150 with a $3,500 extended warranty. I was told this warranty was I Quote (Bumper to Bumper warranty). That it covers everything past your three year 36,000 mile warranty. My sales person and North Star ford manager will have you convince this is the case. After bring my truck in for a wire issue that caused the components not work. I was given a call four hours later that my Bumper to Bumper Extended warranty doesn t cover this component because it s the faulty wire that has caused the component not to work. My extended warranty turned into a $4,268 warranty wow. I asked the customer service manager why this issue doesn t cover I was told the extended warranty doesn t cover wiring issues I told the manager the wire is part of the component. He told me I would have to talk to ford about this that he couldn t help me any more. So paid the $689 dollar fix. North Star Ford sold me a 100 percent Lie on extended warranty s. It s an a injustice this is what they are saying to new vehicle buyers. I will personally never ever buy another brand new vehicle from this Dealership I recommend no one else to do the same. $3,500 for an extended warranty that doesn t cover bumper to bumper they sure have some people that sure know how to lie working there. If your looking at buying an extended warranty think again. I can t wait to see what the responses are to this issue. You ll never ever see me buy a vehicle again from North Star Ford all because of a extended premium warranty.
Below was my first review and I am writing a new review to update everyone that when we were finally able to connect and have a conversation of my concerns and wishes they were able to make it right and helped repair my Mom's truck to be safely road ready and showed their appreciation towards myself when they could see the frustration. It did take a few phone calls with Corey the sales manager and some conversations between him and Ryan the general manager but between the three of us we were able to get the issue resolved in a way that everyone was able to agree upon. I do greatly appreciate the time that they took to help resolve the issue and that once a verbal connection was made the "out of our hands" feeling turned into it "all of our hands" feeling.
We have been looking for a smaller size suv for my mother for quite some time and after someone referring us to NS ford because of their excellent customer service so I took a look and saw a ford escape on the website. After test driving and looking it we chose to get it after some talking and making them replace the cracked windshield that was right in the line of vision. As we were meeting with our sales man and went over that the suv has been inspected physically but not mechanically and would properly make turns, stop and go which would make it "road ready." Not even having it a month the strut broke through the wheel well and after making a few calls they would look at it, well about a week later they called us back stating that there was nothing that they could do and that was that. No compensation on getting a new car, just nothing at all now like it's our of our hands and its your problem now. So not only were they trying to sell us a "road ready" car with a broken windshield [after some research it is a law in Minnesota that no chip or crack can be in the line of sight going down the road and if it is you could get a ticket] but physically unsafe to drive due to the rust and strut not being able to safely make it down the road. We have left a few phone calls and have left a few messages and have been unsuccessful at receiving any phone calls back.
NorthStar Ford took really great care of me while I was visiting from out of town and had a major car issue. They were able to get get my car in within a few days, diagnosed the issue and repair it within a few days. They kept me updated on repairs and picked me up when my car was ready to go. Every employee was really kind. I appreciate everything they did to get me going again.
I have had my oil changed, tires rotated, and filters changed at the quick lube over a dozen times. They have gotten it in and completed quickly and have had no issues at all with the service.
They were just not knowledgable about the car I wanted at all. A new Ford...odd. They also don't return your phone calls and are extremely dishonest. I have the money and know what I want. It would have been such an easy sale. Why lie to people?
Had a small issue with lug nuts. And they paid for brand new ones with no hassle. And have owned 2010 truck, bought used 2 years ago put 30,000 miles on it. And have not had even one issue with it!!!!! Very good dealership and people. Be back for next vehicle! Thanks!!!!
Got me a F150...... But I can't afford the gasoline..... Down payment blue's By : AC/DC. Update: I bought a used F 150 I had been thinking about getting one for years, Than one day my phone rings and what I thought was my buddy says come on up you can take your pick of any F-150 on the lot. I am gullible and trust people at their word, Looking back I can see just how bad I got duped, into over paying for my truck. At the time I thought a friend was looking out for me, Now I can see how they were all in on seeing just how much I'd over pay for a truck. It started with a co-worker and went all the way up to the sales manager who assured me what a great deal I was getting. I will take some of the blame for not taking the time to compare price's and looking at the market valve, But than again these were my friends helping me. What a joke ! Put 2 grand down, been making a high payment for 2 1/2 years and I'm still upside down by 3 to 4 grand.: Warning I am not the only one Northstar Ford's sales manager has put the screws to. They prey on the inexperienced and trusting people that are told what a great deal they're receiving. B.S. I will ever buy another vehicle from Northstar Ford and advise anyone who see this to do the same, if your looking for a dealership with intergy you won't find it at Northstar Ford. A--Holes, GFY
No honesty or integrity whatsoever... Worst experience I've ever had... Purchased (cash) a 2016 Ford GT 350 was never told the hood was pulled off to be repainted due to "A factory defect" then the front splitter that was installed fell off due to the service department not installing five bolts because they were too hard to reach. Now with 5000 miles on the car there's engine failure. My family and I are in another state on a road trip and now left stranded. With the combination of everything and without going into greater detail I can confidently say this was absolutely the worst buying experience I have ever had.... Because of this I will never again do Business with NorthStarFord and i would never recommend them to anybody..
Worked with Spencer Lawniczak! Very informational, great guy to work with, and helped with all my questions. Love my new 19 F-150! Go to Northstar Ford to get a great deal.
Super awesome people working here. I went there to get a a car not knowing if I would be approved or not. The all worked together and got me a new vehicle. Special thank you to Dan C. You were friendly and explained what was going on. I would very highly recommend going here if u are looking for a vehicle or for servicing. Thank you northstar ford
I bring my Ford Fusion Hybrid to NorthStar Ford because they are the Ford dealership and better equipped to maintain and fix my car. I use the Quick Lane for oil changes, tires rotation and fixing my flat tires.
I am always greeted with a smile, super friendly customer service and always a quick turn around.
I will not take my car any where else. This is still the same even after 2 years of service.
I have purchased several vehicles from Northstar Ford and have always had a great experience even with the service department. I've sent my friends and family to Northstar Ford to buy and service their vehicles and they have had the same great experience. My salesman Matt Coy has always been available to answer any questions I may have and even provides me with a loaner car when my vehicle is in for service. Thanks for all you do.
In December of 2015 we headed up to Northstar Ford to check out some SUV's. I have always wanted an explorer and Joe Kaufhold set me up with one and it was a great price. He worked hard and was honest! I appreciated that!! He is a great salesman.
Keith Nelson did a great job helping me trade in my SUV and got me into a 2015 F150! We got to test drive a few and he knew all the features and helped me get what I needed.
Buyer beware- Worst service ever! One star is too much, but obviously the lowest choice I have. I purchased a used Escape from another dealer. Brought it to the other dealer for a transmission seal leaking because I had purchased an extended warranty from them. They told me the leak was due to a faulty drive axle of which Ford had a service bulletin issued for this defect. The other dealer recommended I go to Northstar and called them to explain the issue. They said fine and to bring it over right away. I went directly to Northstar (about 10 minutes) and they said they could not get me in because I didn't qualify for Fast Lane service. You knew my issue and told me to come right over. I guess your schedule was wrong since you said come right over and we'll look at it right away? So I scheduled an appointment for the following week. After that appointment they said it would cost me around $500 to fix. Told them again I had extended warranty and had to remind you again about the open service bulletin. They said it would not cover repair and then charged me for topping off the transmission oil. A couple days later I scheduled another appointment for the drive axle service bulletin after they assured me I would only have to pay my deductible. Then after they repaired the drive axle they said my extended warranty will not cover the hardware you had to replace. That retainer hardware was the drive axle nut and ball joint bolt and nut for an additional $45. I paid the bill with dismay. The next day I brought my Escape into an independent shop for brakes and rotors. (I was not going to give Northstar any additional work due to this headache) Told the independent shop what happened and asked them to look over Northstar's repair. Within 5 minutes they took off the tire and could clearly see that no new hardware was replaced. They recommended I take photos and talk to the service manager at Northstar. I did so the next day. It only took 4 calls to actually get to speak to the service manager. (Great work by woman that answered the phone) Service manager told me I would have to bring my vehicle back for them to look at and would not consider looking at my photos. Tried to make a late day appointment but she (service manager) told me that the shop foreman has to look at it and he does not work past 4pm. Advised her that I work until 430pm and would have my girlfriend bring it in during the day and I would like to make an earlier appointment. She said that she did not want to deal with a 3rd party and that I must bring it in. Thus I had to take time off of work to bring it in for them to look at it for less than 10 minutes. After all this they finally refunded me the $45 in hardware that they initially said was replaced - but did NOT! After all this time and effort to show them that they did not actually replace all the parts they said they had - they didn't even apologize for their error. (yes - I will politely call it an error). Obviously the service manager is a pawn and the shop foreman hides in the back so as not to have to deal with the public. Sleazy service tactics if you ask me. Your service department is the poster child for what is wrong with all service shops. Poor service, poor communication, treat a customer with any technical knowledge like they are the enemy. Hey - not all of us just surf the web and read forums written by idiots. Some of us are perfectly capable of doing our own service, but just don't have time. I understand that most customers are demanding jerks and expect everything for nothing, but I was more than polite and reasonable to find a solution that would appease all parties, but unfortunately your service manager and her other service pawns have no real authority to solve problems as they arise. So keep it up Northstar- follow the status quo and be like everyone else. Don't change a thing - I'm sure your service department will fix its own problems. Maybe they will do a better job at that than what you did, or should I say didn't do to my vehicle.
I've bought my last two cars through Bulldog at NorthStar Ford! He's an excellent salesperson, and always helps you find exactly what you're looking for! I will definitely go back!
They almost always finish the work when or before they say that they will. The one exception to this was a part not shipped with the rest of the shipment. Can t blame them for that. Excellent loaner cars too, I m not going somewhere with my brand new Explorer to drive off in a beat up POS Focus loaner. Northstar gave us a newer Edge as a loaner.
I was in the market for leasing a new vehicle. The salesperson, pretty sure his name was Jeff? I talked to was extremely rude and was irritated that I needed to know how much the car would cost and what my payments would be before I agreed to leasing the car. I told him that I needed to compare prices to other car dealerships before i made my decision. He stated "im not going to do all this work for you if you aren't going to buy the car."
I would never work with them again, and have since leased a vehicle from another agency.
Salesperson Matt Coy is the most professional salesperson we know. Knowledgeable with a smile. Accommodating with a smile. Our son in law and daughter, and both of our grandsons have bought cars and one truck from Matt Coy. NorthStar Ford is a great place to buy a vehicle. Service department is exceptional.
Excellent service provided at NorthStar Ford. However, when I called service department to schedule service, I was put on hold. After 5 m of waiting, I hung up and walked in later to have my Edge serviced. Won t call ahead to schedule again.
The staff is very professional and friendly. I felt like a person and not a number. They listened to my needs, and worked around my schedule. My car was done in a professional and efficient manner. I highly recommend Northstar Ford. They are a pleasure to work with.
Met Trevor Homeier in the lot on Saturday while looking at vehicles, he was very friendly and personable. Called him later that day too set up a time to test drive a vehicle on Monday. By Monday night I was the owner of my new/used Acadia!! The whole crew that helped with purchase were great!! Thanks NorthStar!
WORST dealership I have ever been to. BUYERS BEWARE.. Purchased a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI on July 11th. I had them put a new wheel on it due to there being curb rash on one of the rims. (Front drivers side to be exact.) Drove it home and it was shaking pretty bad at 70+ MPH. I brought the car to my mechanic thinking it had to be balanced because new wheel and it wasn't shaking much when I test drove it, I figured maybe it just didn't get balanced. My mechanic showed me that all 4 tires were weather worn, cupped on the inside tread, and the rear passenger side tire was actually separating from the rim. NOW you would think this would've been noticed by the techs at the shop when the car was on the lift getting the new wheel put on but apparently not. I did not see this because the inside tread is covered by the fenders, but when the vehicle is on a lift its very noticeable. I called Northstar and explained everything, they said there's nothing they can do. Keep in mind they were informed of this within 2-3 weeks of me purchasing the car. I took the car back to my mechanic to have new tires put on and he informed me that ALL 4 RIMS WERE BENT. So thank you Northstar ford, for completely ruining my first time experience with you and selling me a car with MULTIPLE safety hazards. I will never be back.
After a rocky experience, Heather from the service department contacted me and rectified the situation. She explained what happened on their side and wanted to hear my side.
Customer service resolution at its best. Thank you!
I sat for over an hour waiting to be refused service. I expect my vehicles, when being serviced, to have ZERO damage coming out. The oil change did not have this happen.
Had the best experience buying my first car from NorthStar Ford. The Salesman Keenan was extremely helpful and made the car buying experience better than I could have imagined.
I was experiencing low tire pressure while shopping in Duluth. I was able to drive on in and get it resolved immediately. No appointment necessary! Very Satisfied with the service! Thank You!
Went there twice in 2019 in hopes of discussing and ordering a 2020 van. I felt dismissed and was given inaccurate information both times. Go to Benna Ford where they treat people with respect.
We purchased a 2015 Explorer about 2 weeks ago. North Star Ford's website said this vehicle had bluetooth. The day of the purchase, they tried to connect my Iphone and couldn't do it. A few days later, I called the NSF service dept and told them that I had spoken with SYNC three times and SYNC said that I need to bring the vehicle to the dealership. The service dept said they would need to call me back. They did, they said they knew what the problem was and that the repair would be covered under the "30 day" warranty that North Start gives with the purchase of a used vehicle. So I brought the vehicle in, waited 3-1/2 hours for them to tell me that it wasn't fixed, and that I probably need a new APIM -which they were not going to cover the price of. Does anyone really know what the "30-day " warranty covers? I have asked at least 3 people from NSF and no one will tell me. It sounds like they pick & choose what the warranty will cover. Love the vehicle, not the service after the purchase.
Why can I can get in for an oil change within an hour at the Twin Cities quick lanes, but I was told 3 hours today at your dealership in Duluth? The people behind the counter almost seemed happy that I couldn t wait that long! Your customer service could use some work...
Wonderful experience with Brennan Rilea, the car I recieved from them had a fuse blow and the car stopped working. Brennan and his manager gave us a loaner car and offered to help with the repair fees if there was going to be any. The car we got was not even under warranty and they went above and beyond to assist us! Thank you so much Brennan and the northstar team! You guys are amazing and I will send many people your way!
I will never be going back to Northstar Ford. I should have known better after buying my car there but the warranty I was sold needs to be used at a Ford Dealership. I made an appointment on the website to have it looked at for an issue, and never received a confirmation. They did have me in the system when I arrived, I was given a loaner and sent on my way. Then for the next day and a half I had to reach out to them consistently to get any answers as their communication is horrible. I had to call to get updates, which there were none. I left a message with their service manager, who never called me back even though I was told she was in the office. I finally went to pick up my car and was charged without ever authorizing any work or being told what I would be charge for work being done. I then asked for a manager but instead had to talk to a service advisor, the same one who didn't call me. I told him my concerns and that I was never contacted and he didn't have any answers for me. When I started to show a little frustration he actually started to yell at me. He said and I quote "I can't understand how you expect to come in and get free services from a business, it's ridiculous" as he walked away from me. I didn't want free services, I wanted communication about services being performed so I could AUTHORIZE them. Do yourself a favor and never go to Northstar Ford.
Mike and Joe are 100% the best guys ever. If you have any problems I recommend contacting them. If your car salesman didn't explain stuff to you they will 100% explain everything to you and help you with any mistakes the salesman made. Make sure you talk to the right people and you will be helped to the fullest extent. They have been helping me refinance for a while and we are almost there. Thanks Mike and Joe.
We had a very good experience with Matt Coy, we were first time buyers with North Star Ford and Matt was friendly and helpful right from the start. Zach was very helpful with the accessories and vehicle preparation. Kevin was so helpful with our mounds of paperwork that needed completing and was very friendly. Everyone was exceptional and would highly recommend Matt and all the guys to our friends.
Schedule a vehicle for repairs in advance to bring in expecting it will be worked on immediately. Why else would one schedule in advance? I fully understood the work was time consuming, but the service manager minimized to me the amount of time they would have my vehicle. Furtermore its impossible to reach anyone in the service department via phone calls, nor will they call back when you leave a message or if a service representative specifically tells you they will call on vehicle status. Not impressed with customer service at all. Will not return to Northstar Ford for vehicle repairs again
Was interesed in a vehicle they had. After spending 3 hours getting backed into a corner i demanded my keys so i could leave. They shotgunned my credit, lowering it. All i wanted to know was the price.
Had my oil changed here. Told me they had to put vw specific oil in it costing 17$ per quart. $100 on a car with 250,000 miles. I did not request the vw oil or filter received and was looking for the 19$ charge advertised on the side of their building. Will not step foot on their property again.
I was looking into trading my vehicle for a newer one and called to find out COVID protocol and the individual on the phone was not friendly, I felt I was bothering her and she just wanted to get off the phone. I will not use Northstar Ford because of this.
Wonderful Experience! Trevor was very helpful and put up with our family a couple times while we were looking for a new vehicle. We came in with a price point we wanted to stay within and they helped us find a car that met those requirements while offering a couple of nice upgrades. We are very happy with our purchase.
After many many years of purchasing our vehicles from North Star Ford we are still amazed by their wonder service center. Quick in and out oil changes and excellent safety checks.
The service department at Northstar Ford is something to be desired. I have dealt with them on 4 separate occasions with HORRIBLE service each time.
The staff is friendly and has been able to accommodate appointments, but the turn around time on my vehicle has been no less than 7 days each time!! I am a traveling salesman and without a vehicle I am landlocked in Duluth.
Each and every time I have been up there for service, there has been a 2-4 delay on the necessary parts for the repair. Not to mention, the service manager and administrative assistants are horrible about following up on the status of your vehicle. You have to call them back repeatedly each day to get an update, not them being proactive and giving you an update.
All in all, if you are looking at a Ford vehicle from Northstar Ford, I would look elsewhere. The vehicle itself might be a good value, but if (when) something goes wrong with it...and it will...the service department is what makes them a terrible value.
We had a truly awful purchase experience at North Star Ford. Two months after purchasing a late-model used car from them, one of the rear proximity sensors fell out. North Star Ford refused to cover the repair costs even though we bought their touted "bumper-to-bumper" coverage. They would not replace the sensor (which they said was covered) without replacing the entire bumper cover (which they said wasn't covered since it was "cosmetic").
I was in desperate need of a vehicle. My boyfriend and I went to go get his truck cleaned and in the process we started looking at prices and vehicles for me. We did not intend on purchasing a vehicle that day but Joe "Bulldog" Kaufold was there to help us out. He ran our credit, got on the phone with a few banks and was very prompt in getting our paperwork in line and a vehicle within our budget. I walked out of there within a few hours a proud owner of a newer vehicle. We had a very great experience and definitely will go back once we can purchase an even newer vehicle. Thank you Northstar Ford and Joe "Bulldog".
Tried to get me a car payment double the size I specifically asked for. I told them no thank you. They then called me three times a day for the following three days.
