Buyer beware- Worst service ever! One star is too much, but obviously the lowest choice I have. I purchased a used Escape from another dealer. Brought it to the other dealer for a transmission seal leaking because I had purchased an extended warranty from them. They told me the leak was due to a faulty drive axle of which Ford had a service bulletin issued for this defect. The other dealer recommended I go to Northstar and called them to explain the issue. They said fine and to bring it over right away. I went directly to Northstar (about 10 minutes) and they said they could not get me in because I didn't qualify for Fast Lane service. You knew my issue and told me to come right over. I guess your schedule was wrong since you said come right over and we'll look at it right away? So I scheduled an appointment for the following week. After that appointment they said it would cost me around $500 to fix. Told them again I had extended warranty and had to remind you again about the open service bulletin. They said it would not cover repair and then charged me for topping off the transmission oil. A couple days later I scheduled another appointment for the drive axle service bulletin after they assured me I would only have to pay my deductible. Then after they repaired the drive axle they said my extended warranty will not cover the hardware you had to replace. That retainer hardware was the drive axle nut and ball joint bolt and nut for an additional $45. I paid the bill with dismay. The next day I brought my Escape into an independent shop for brakes and rotors. (I was not going to give Northstar any additional work due to this headache) Told the independent shop what happened and asked them to look over Northstar's repair. Within 5 minutes they took off the tire and could clearly see that no new hardware was replaced. They recommended I take photos and talk to the service manager at Northstar. I did so the next day. It only took 4 calls to actually get to speak to the service manager. (Great work by woman that answered the phone) Service manager told me I would have to bring my vehicle back for them to look at and would not consider looking at my photos. Tried to make a late day appointment but she (service manager) told me that the shop foreman has to look at it and he does not work past 4pm. Advised her that I work until 430pm and would have my girlfriend bring it in during the day and I would like to make an earlier appointment. She said that she did not want to deal with a 3rd party and that I must bring it in. Thus I had to take time off of work to bring it in for them to look at it for less than 10 minutes. After all this they finally refunded me the $45 in hardware that they initially said was replaced - but did NOT! After all this time and effort to show them that they did not actually replace all the parts they said they had - they didn't even apologize for their error. (yes - I will politely call it an error). Obviously the service manager is a pawn and the shop foreman hides in the back so as not to have to deal with the public. Sleazy service tactics if you ask me. Your service department is the poster child for what is wrong with all service shops. Poor service, poor communication, treat a customer with any technical knowledge like they are the enemy. Hey - not all of us just surf the web and read forums written by idiots. Some of us are perfectly capable of doing our own service, but just don't have time. I understand that most customers are demanding jerks and expect everything for nothing, but I was more than polite and reasonable to find a solution that would appease all parties, but unfortunately your service manager and her other service pawns have no real authority to solve problems as they arise. So keep it up Northstar- follow the status quo and be like everyone else. Don't change a thing - I'm sure your service department will fix its own problems. Maybe they will do a better job at that than what you did, or should I say didn't do to my vehicle.
