I had surgery Nov 2016 by an incompetent surgeon in Memphis, Tn. When my levels remained high post op my doctor told me I had hyperplasia and there was nothing else they could do because of the scar tissue from the surgery. I consulted Dr. Norman at the Norman Parathyroid Center. Dr. Norman told me he was certain he could help me. On Aug. 28, 2018, Dr. Norman removed the tumor my Memphis surgeon left behind. My surgery in Memphis was three hours long and they did not remove the tumor. Dr. Norman removed it in 25 minutes. I thought traveling out of state for surgery would be stressful. The NPC did everything possible to make this an exceptional experience. I cannot say enough good things about them. I recommend anyone with Parathyroid issues to contact NPC.

Don t second guess don t question don t wait!!! NPT clinic in Tampa is the ONLY (let me repeat) the only place to go for treatment for this disease! The best of the best! Two days post op & doing quite well as anticipated! App is the most comprehensive app I have ever seen (I am a retired RN) the Surgeons & entire staff are kind compassionate & experts in their field. I had Dr. Parrack who explained every detail & answered every question. They truly care & you sense their passion to make you better. It s a bit of a process to get it all started (paper work etc) but all worth it. Don t put this life saving op off if you have this disease!! My only regret is that I didn t do it sooner!

Going to Norman Parathyroid Center to have parathyroid surgery is one of the best decisions that I made in my life. The surgeons, other medical professionals, nurses and office staff took outstanding care of me. They displayed professionalism and excellence. If you need to have parathyroid surgery, the best place to get it done is Norman Parathyroid Center.

I had parathyroidectomy at Tampa General Hospital s Norman Parathyroid Center on December 16, 2019. I traveled down to Tampa from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and I can tell you already that it was so worth it, even though I had to pay for the whole surgery by myself. Government of Ontario rejected my request to participate on it. Waiting time in Ontario, Canada is so long for this type of surgery and my health condition didn t allow me to wait that long.

Entire staff in Tampa General Hospital s Norman Parathyroid Center is amazing. Everyone from their receptionist, transport team, nurses, anesthesia team and surgeons were so kind and caring.

I had pleasure of having Dr. Douglas E. Politz as my surgeon and he did a flawless and totally professional job!!! The surgery only took thirty minutes with zero complications. I had no pain after operation, only soreness which is to be expected. So far on January 2020 my incision is healing beautifully. The night after the surgery Dr. Politz gave me a call to see how I was doing and made sure to let me know to contact him if I had any questions or concerns. Next day I safely drove my car to Naples, FL, for the time of recovery.

Dr. Politz is by far the best doctor I have had. Thank you Dr. Politz and the Norman Parathyroid Center for your hospitality and care.

Extremely satisfied with my experience at the center. Very organized. Doctors very personal. I had a few other medical issues going on when there. Addressed them also. Although do many surgeries a day, the care is very personalized just for you.Worth the trip from Pennsylvania to Tampa. Department very clean, all cleaning protocols were being followed. I am a retired nurse, so I am very observant of cleanliness.

Hi, my name is Magdalena and I came to Tampa from Poland. Three days ago I had surgery to remove me the defective parathyroid gland and thyroid tumor in the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa. Diagnosing and removing two nodules together with an other necessary activities took doctors only a few hours! I am very impressed with how everything was done professionally, efficiently and in a patient-friendly atmosphere. And, importantly, everything was exactly done as it is written on the Norman Parathyroid Center website. I am convinced that my parathyroid problem has been eliminated forever during this few hours, while in my country has not been able to determine where the obstructive parathyroid gland lies for more than one year. So, I have the right to think that the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa is the best medical center in the world in its field. I encourage all those who have a problem with hyperparathyroidism to ask for medical care for this Center. I also thank the whole team: doctors, nurses and an other members of the medical staff for looking after me. In particular, I thank very much to Dr Doug Politz for care over me, great professionalism and empathy.

If there were 6 stars, I would give it that rating!!! This is the only place to go for this surgery..They handled everything so professionally, from the moment I registered online until the surgery was complete...They are the experts!!

Thanks to Norman Parathyroid physicians and staff for their commitment to excellence in every part of the process from providing detailed education, through the insurance process, an excellent surgical experience, follow up and follow-through after care. Best medical experience other than having my children.

Two years after being diagnosed with osteoporosis,...

Two years after being diagnosed with osteoporosis, I finally discovered that it was being caused by an overactive parathyroid gland, primary hyperparathyroidism. For almost a year I also had a sensation that something was lodged on the right side of my throat, causing me to occasionally cough and try to clear my throat. Swallowing and my voice were being affected, but I didn t realize all these were related to the parathyroid tumor.
The only treatment for hyperparathyroidism is surgery, and I chose to travel to the Norman Parathyroid Center (from Oregon) for this. Once I made that call, I felt like I was being taken care of every step of the way. The entire staff is exceptionally caring, and knowledgeable. Dr. Parrack was my incredible surgeon. I wish I could remember the names of each nurse and member of the team. They were professional, knowledgeable and extremely caring. Only one of my glands had developed into a tumor, but in Dr. Parrack s words, It s been there for quite awhile , because it was 1 1/2 centimeters long and 1/2 centimeter wide (from the size of a grain of rice). Post surgery I only had minor pain and was tired, but with rest and ice packs the healing process was uneventful. My husband and I flew home 2 days after surgery. Miraculously, on day 3 post surgery, I woke with absolutely NO SENSATION of something stuck in my throat, no need to clear it, and my voice was normal again! That tumor had been pressing on my esophagus and vocal chords! My life has already changed for the better and now I know that I can reverse the osteoporosis.

I m writing this only 6 days post surgery and I can say that I wouldn t choose any other place to have parathyroid surgery done. Thank you, Norman Parathyroid Center...and thank you, Dr. Parrack.

I highly recommend the Norman Parathyroid Center. ...

I highly recommend the Norman Parathyroid Center. I had high blood calcium levels for a span of 10 years. I suffered with a range of symptoms, while questioning whether I was depressed or just "getting old". (I am 59). Wiithin a few weeks, beginning with my initial online contact with the Norman Parathyroid Center, through my successful surgery six days ago, I feel like a new person. Many of my symptoms, such as bone/joint pain, severe hot flashes and irritability, were gone within one day of the surgery.

Don't wait for your primary care physician to make a referral. Contact the Norman Parathyroid Center to find out for yourself if you have hyperparathyroid disease. It could save your life!

Dr. Mitchell and the staff at the NPC were top notch. They are knowledgeable, friendly, caring and punctual. Dr. Mitchell helped me when no one else would listen. I had seen numerous physicians in my area and going down dead end roads with them all. As an RN this was so frustrating, because I knew something was wrong with me. The bone pain, weakness and fatigue were debilitating. I was spending most of my time in bed until my surgery in July and I have since started getting my life back. Within 3 days my bone pain was gone. I thought at the age of 43 the best years of my life were over. No more mid afternoon naps and my energy is getting better and better everyday. I flew down to Tampa on Thursday, surgery was Friday and I flew home Saturday without any difficulties. Dr. Mitchell called to check on me the night of surgery and told me to call him with any problems. I cannot thank Dr. Mitchell and his staff at the NPC for their wonderful care.

I chose this center because as a medical doctor I know that the best surgeon is the one who does the same procedure many times a day. 12-15 times a day almost every day - that will do. Also the idea of not being intubated and not being under anesthesia for extra hr and a half played an important role. Add to consideration not being operated by a resident or fellow (bad experience in the past). The decision to go to Tampa to Norman s P. Clinic came easy to me. Everything was like it was described on their website and reviews. I was back to work on day 3. Good luck!

Dr's Norman, Boone and Ruan - my grateful thanks to you and all the friendly staff at the NPC. My op went well this morning and I'm looking forward to a better quality of life. It was a big deal for me, being a 'home body', to travel from New Zealand but I wanted to do it right the first time. The parathyroid app is so comprehensive it has given me confidence that I'll be able to manage the next few days and weeks. It's really quite remarkable as is everything you do. Awesome!

I want to be very encouraging to those readers who may have had many failed surgeries in the past for hyperparathyroidism. I had four failed surgeries over a thirty-year time span. Just about everything that could go wrong did such as thyroid removal, bi-lateral vocal cord paralysis, long exploratory surgeries, loss of voice for 9 months after my third surgery, restricted airway, three venous samplings and one arteriogram, MRIs, CT scans, countless sestamibi scans, well I think you get the picture. In 2004 I was told that all surgical options had been explored, and the only avenue available was to use the newly developed drug Sensipar. For the next fourteen years, I took 120 mg of this medication until I found the Norman Parathyroid Center. Dr. Politz and the team at NPC gave me hope for a cure for the first time in many years. On October 17, 2018, Dr. Politz was able to do what no other surgeon was able to do and remove my last ectopic parathyroid adenoma! If you are like me, you already know that with each surgery the chances for a cure diminish significantly. Having said that, I want to encourage you to have the Norman Parathyroid Center review your situation because you will be giving yourself the best possible chance to finally be cured.

I had a great experience start to finish with The Norman Parathyroid Center. I have never dealt with such organized and professional medical providers. I knew exactly what to expect. I had surgery on September 25th and I spent the next day at Clearwater Beach. I had very minimal discomfort and my scar is almost unnoticeable. There is a big difference in the way I feel. My fatigue and bone pain are gone.

This review comes about seven hours after surgery ...

This review comes about seven hours after surgery with Drs Norman and Carling because I am still marveling at what was far and away the best interaction I ve ever had with the medical profession in my life and need to evangelize to any folks out there with high calcium.

If you spend any time on the Parathyroid Center s website, you ll find a wealth of information. I m not talking about WebMD BS ... this is hours and hours of info that empowers patients. It put me in a position to decline meaningless appointments and procedures my home based endocrinologist set up for me. I ve never felt competent to tell a physician no in the past because I m not a doctor or medical professional (lawyer here) and appreciate and rely upon my doctors expertise. But, the Center s website convinced me that, in this case and under these narrow circumstances, I could and should say no. The expense I would have incurred from those visits/procedures helped offset the cost of my consult with the Parathyroid Center (I m an out of state patient).

Everyone at the Center was beyond responsive after I first reached out to become a patient. Communications are by phone, email, and Apps super flexible and super convenient. There was never a need for me to prompt a response as I ve seen friends and family have to do so often with other providers. That responsiveness, alone, was such a relief. I knew I d not have to shoulder the anxiety too many patients bear when their providers aren t helpful and proactive.

Once I got my date for surgery, I was directed to the Center s surgery App, which has even more information detailing what to expect when I walked into the hospital this morning and afterwards. Imagine knowing exactly what to expect every step of the way, from 5A admitting to 11A discharge. I contrast my experience today with a low-information Caesarian I endured years ago. The anxiety the latter caused was terrible, esp during something so wonderful as having a child, and, upon reflection, unfair. (I adored my OBGYN; times, however, have changed and there s no reason to leave any patient uninformed in 2020.)

There were no deviations today from what the App told me I should expect (to my knowledge). Everything was choreographed beautifully; the providers were excellent and attentive; the facility very accessible and (I can t believe I have to say this, but given other experiences) sparkling clean. After surgery, my nurse never left my bedside. Period. Contrast that with a hospital experience I had with a family member when I taught myself how to recalibrate an IV monitor because it (erroneously) set off its alarm every few minutes and it took an attendant much, much longer to get around to us to flip its switch.

Recovery, such that it is, has been very comfortable. A little headache coming off anesthesia was the worst part of it but the providers (and I am so sorry to not remember everyone s name) quickly fixed that. My throat feels sore, but not like it was incised; more like recovering from a cold that included a sore throat. And, I feel good ... really, really good.

As if to punctuate all of this, Dr. Norman just phoned as I was typing to check in on me. So, I ll quote him in closing: If you have high calcium, you have a tumor that needs to be taken out. Please have Dr. Norman and his amazing team do the honors for you.

They are very experienced, they put the patients first, and answered all my questions. The surgeon even called me the night of the surgery to check on me. I would absolutely highly recommend them.

I was diagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism four m...

I was diagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism four months ago. I had many of the described symptoms of hypercalcemia for a long time. My calcium level was only 10.6, climbing to 12mg/dL in few weeks. Normal 24 hr urine calcium, low vit D, high PTH of 75 pg/ml. A bone density study showed osteopenia My endocrinologist wanted to follow me in six months since I had not have any kidney stones and although I had osteopenia, there was no osteoporosis. He started me on Vit D supplement, which I stopped as soon as I read the PTHospital App. My experience at TGH went above and beyond my expectations. From the initial phone call from nursing staff to Dr Politz I felt the passion with which this team does their job. Once in preoperative area, Dr Parrack did the first assessment and he was wonderful in summarizing and explaining my experience of this disease, the way it is even nowadays seen by the medical community that still has an outdated way of watching you instead of taking care of the problem, based on outdated ways to look at this disease.
My anesthesiology team was wonderful and they listened to all my concerns. Heidi CRNA you did great! Kay, the OR nurse was a hoot, and cheered me up (or was it the meds?, no both really). Out we went to the OR and I remembered being told that Propofol was going in.... next I am in recovery waking up with 6/10 pain. Not really a sore throat, but I would say purely incisional pain. As described, it goes away nearly half per hour. Tylenol with ibuprofen did the job. The incision gets puffy as described in the App (you need to get it!). Also, RN Jacky was great during my pre and post op experience.
Dr Politz discharged me after a PTH level down to 5.9. (From 75), and called me later at night. My picture with the tumor was a great thing to share with my family, so they could see what came out of me. I will never forget this team that took care of me, thank you all. I am on my second day postop and I feel already better, more active and without this cloud in my mind! Only taking pain killers at night. TGH Norman Parathyroid Center has this down to a science, making the whole process look easy, for a surgery historically messy and complicated, that thanks to their technique it seems like nothing. Thank you again sincerely to everyone involved in my care.

What an amazing place. Drs. Ruan & Boone did a tremendous job as well as all the staff at the clinic/hospital. When I told people I was going to Tampa for surgery they thought I was crazy and tried to talk me into staying in Arkansas. I wish I would have found out about my tumor along time ago. I'm now telling everyone to get there calcium level checked. My Mom is 92 and has broken both hips I didn't want to end up like her with brittle bones. And I got my purple popsicle after surgery!

Great experience!!! I came to Tampa from Houston, TX. I had horrible anxiety and had a panic attack the day before. This was my first surgery ever. Besides wisdom tooth extraction. The nurses, surgeons and anesthesia made this surgery a one not so scary one. I got in at 5:00 am and left at 10:40am. Surgery as at 7:00 am. Not so bad and very quick. Before surgery I looked for so many ppl to give there advice and experience. This is a true one! Don t believe everyone who says they had a bad experience. And everyone s pain tolerance and experience is different. My pain is tolerable just taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen. And I did eat dinner out the same night. Calcium pills are super easy they don t taste like anything crushing them and eating them in a cup of water. Advocate for yourself my main symptoms of Hyperparathyroidism was heart palpitations really bad. And anxiety about everything. My family was feeling how horrible I was acting with them.

The entire experience was amazing. I arrived at 6:30 ,left at 1:30 without my parathyroid tumor and felt so good I had lunch and went to explore St Petersburg. The anesthesia was easy to recover from, I had no pain and and I already felt bettet.
The staff is very attentive and competent and Dr Ruan and Dr Lopez were terrific.
Don't go anywhere else. Read the website, it's all true

I could write a very very long excellent review because simply everything was excellent, I mean excellent from beginning to the end even the doctors phone call after I was released. The people here are genuinely nice to you because they are truly genuinely nice people. And I know the difference. I admitted myself here and that was the best decision I have ever made about my health care. I am now the poster child for the Norman Parathyroid Center

The Norman Parathyroid Center is fantastic! From the care received during the initial contact until the completion of surgery and beyond, everything is SUPERIOR. You must download their Parathyroid Surgery Guide as well. It is an app that answers any question you could think of - and provides tons of information (often with humor). I could go on and on . . . so I ll exercise restraint. Every doctor is phenomenal - but if you happen to get Dr. Kevin Parrack, consider yourself lucky!

These surgeons are excellent at their job. Dr Boone was easy to talk to and gave all the time we needed. I highly recommend this very professional group. Patient teaching is extensive and easy to follow.

The Norman Parathyroid Center and The Clayman Thyroid Cancer Center are specialists in each of their respective areas, they work together seamlessly in the operating room and focus on each of their areas of expertise. As it turns out my entire thyroid gland and one parathyroid gland were removed. My parathyroid gland tumor is believed not to be cancerous, but my thyroid gland had developed a papillary cancer tumor. Fortunately, it was contained, and as Dr. Clayman put it, YOU are cured! Unbelievable!

Dr. Doug Politz performed my parathyroid surgery. Dr. Politz is down to earth and a medical professional in every way. He is easy to talk to and highly experienced in parathyroid expertise and surgeries. I highly recommend The Norman Parathyroid Center and Dr. Politz if you have a need for issues pertaining to your parathyroid glands. I feel blessed to have found this team of professionals.

The Norman Parathyroid Center was flawless for me from making my first appointment, the scheduling, the physicians, nurses, and staff are true professionals, the best of the best.
I had two parathyroid glands removed three months ago with minimal post-operative pain. I'm feeling so much better now!
They have even followed up with my post operative labs and continue to adjust my calcium and vitamin D3 doses.
This is a 5 star center in every way!

The absolute best! Everything you need to know is fully explained on their website and through their app. I felt very comfortable undergoing the procedure because Dr. Politz explained everything via emails and phone calls. Once at Tampa General, all of the staff were wonderful! I felt very at ease because I was freaking out a bit as it was my first under anesthesia surgery in over 25 years.... I am four days out from surgery and I do not have the "bone" pain anymore (never realized how much that affected my life!). I felt very little incisional pain and did not need to take any OTC medications for pain. I did get a really bad headache for 2 days but I am prone to migraines so I wasn't concerned that this was surgery related- took my migraine meds and this resolved. I have a bit more energy than I did previously but I know this will also improve with time (I have no appetite so I blame my energy level on the lack of food not the procedure). I checked in for surgery at 5 am and was home by noon (I only live about 2 hours away so this was good). I am so glad I contacted the Norman Parathyroid Center instead of going through another type of physician as I feel like I would still be going in circles trying to get my condition under control. From the time I contacted the Center to the time I had surgery was about a month. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has concerns about a parathyroid condition. They were totally up-front and honest about the entire process. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Dr. Lopez was so nice and went over my health issues from the past, & explained what I needed to know before & after surgery. I also met Dr. Boone who was very nice & one of my surgeons. I'm so glad I came here, the nurses were great & the staff were wonderful.
I highly recommend people come here for their parathyroid surgery.

As I reflect this morning I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all those who came together to support me through this Parathyroid surgery. Thank you to my wonderful brother Michael for the awesome balloons and amazing video from my niece and nephew Ella and Alex. Thank you to Dr Lopez and his parathyroid team for doing such an amazing job. Thank you to Victoria Peacock and Dr. Samuels for providing excellence in anesthesia and getting me through this thing in one piece. Liz Marie and Bea for checking on me and making sure that I stayed comfortable and pain-free. And thank you to my wonderful and beautiful lady Magaly and Dimples for being by my side through this whole thing from the beginning and caring for me through the weekend. I feel very blessed to have you all in my life and I really love and appreciate you guys thank you so much. And all you anesthesia people I have a unique perspective on the non-opioid technique now from a patient s perspective very interesting.

As Good as it gets. I needed both thyroid and parathyroid surgery. They coordinated both procedures seamlessly. My Ohio endocrinologist recommended surgery but couldn't schedule until Feb. It just took 1 month to get it done. I'm very satisfied.

Prior to the removal of my parathyroid tumor I had constant acid reflux due to high calcium levels. I was miserable with it most of the time! It has been approximately a year and a half now and I rarely if ever have any reflux issues nor do I even give it a thought. The doctors and staff at Norman Parathyroid are great -- they work like a well-oiled machine.

This Center is absolutely awesome. From the moment I walked into registration to every clinical staff was awesome. Everyone explain what was going to take place and how long it was going to take place and what I should do and what to expect after the surgery. Thank you so much for helping me to feel comfortable. May God continue to bless your skills and every patient that you touch with your hands will feel your compassion.

If you have hyperthyroidism this is the best place to go regardless where you live. I was very pleased with there web site and there surgeons as well the Tampa Bay hospital. My only wish is that I would have known about the Norman Parathyroid Center much sooner. But feel blessed I was guided there by my daughter who is a nurse that found the site for me.
The website is very informative and easy to understand. If there was any way I could help anyone out there with this disease and assure them this is the place to go. From the time I read everything to the time I entered the hospital and left it was an experience I am very thankful for.
Even if you don't have any symptoms read the website you may be able to help a loved one or your friends.

I am now 4 weeks post-op! I had a great experience with the Norman Parathyroid Center, especially admitting, Dr. Mitchell and Lisa, in Recovery.
I was shocked to wake up the morning after surgery to realize my hip pain was gone!! I always thought it was due to aging, arthritis.
My incision is great, without issues. My neck muscles were back to normal within 2 weeks, and the "golfball" lump at incision gone within 2 to 3 weeks.
I am now starting to experience days without the overwhelming fatigue and am able to get through the past 2 days without a nap!
I cannot say enough about my experience. Would ALWAYS recommend anyone to make the trip to Tampa!

This center goes above and beyond! I learned that My calcium was unusually high from a doctor in Northern New York. My doctor referred me to an endocrinologist who checked my parathyroid hormone, and scanned my thyroid. She said the hormone was elevated slightly, and that the scan was alright. She monitored me by checking the hormone every 6 months, and scanning my thyroid every other year.
Seven years later I moved to Florida. My new doctor told me the hormone,(PTH), was elevated. She referred me to a doctor that could perform surgery. I assumed the doctor was part of the Norman Parathyroid Center. When I looked into it, he in fact, was not! I had read about the world famous center at Tampa General Hospital.
I had surgery at The Norman Parathyroid Center last week, June 2, 2020. I had a wonderful experience. I would like to mention the names of those at the center that I remember, because they did such an incredible job. Leo, Diane, Dr Mitchell, Dr Boone, the ladies that pushed wheelchair everywhere I needed to go, and helped me get dressed when it was time to leave, and the anesthesiologist. Dr Mitchell called me the night of the surgery. My scar is small and swollen. I expect the swelling will go down in a few weeks. There is an app that can be downloaded that gives you tons of information about the before, during and after details of the surgery. This is the place to go if you need this type of surgery!!!! Thank you to all involved.

The Norman Parathyroid Center is everything they c...

The Norman Parathyroid Center is everything they claim to be. I flew here from PA to get my parathyroidectomy for a couple reasons: 1) they are the most experienced parathyroid surgeons in the world and I knew this would be the only surgery I needed to be cured of hyperparathyroidism and 2) their minimally-invasive surgical techniques result in a low-risk surgery with little to no scarring and a quick recovery time. What more could a patient ask for?

Dr. Lopez was my main surgeon, and ever since the over-the-phone consultation, I felt like I was in expert hands. I had my surgery this past Monday, and I'm recovering very well. Thank you so much for taking that kidney-stone making adenoma out of me!

Extra special shout-out to the anesthesiologist and operating room nurse who were super friendly and helped ease my surgery/anesthesia-related anxieties that had stemmed from my surgical experiences elsewhere. You guys were the highlight of my day!

This was the best and easiest surgery I ever had, the doctors are the best, along with everybody there, I am so glad I am finally fixed, my husband was looking up high calcium, found their site, we went to our endocrinologist who tested my pth, & then referred me to norman parathyroid center, I had high calcium for about 10 years, guess it wasn't high enough for my doctors, I already have more energy, it has been 11 days since my surgery, so glad we found them, already changing my life !!!!!

The entire experience unfolded exactly as described in the Norman Parathyroid Center literature. Surgery was outpatient, Dr. Mitchell removed 2 parathyroid tumors, my wife and I enjoyed a walk and sun in a nearby park that afternoon, and I drove 4 hours home the next day. It has now been 3 weeks and I feel remarkably better. My energy level is off the charts! All facets of my health have improved considerably. I highly recommend this group

I had surgery 11/28/18 and I'm so glad I did! The severe pain I'd had in the back of my neck when I turned my head that was continually getting worse was gone the very next morning and has yet to return. The pain in my shoulder and lower legs is gone. The brain fog has cleared up considerably and I feel better overall. The very next day after surgery I noticed I didn't have to go to the restroom every 30-45 minutes. I did have the ping pong ball sized lump in my neck but in less than a month it is gone. I did not have to take any pain medication other than what was given to me right after surgery at the hospital. I've also noticed my vision seems clearer. I wear glasses but had gotten where I would blink a lot to try to clear what seemed like fuzz. I don't notice myself doing that anymore. Other doctors pushed off surgery saying I "only had mild hyperparathyroidism" and my PTH test actually wasn't severely elevated but my blood calcium had been elevated for over 10 years and I knew I was continuing to get worse and feel worse. I haven't regretted having the surgery one single time and feel so much better in so many ways. Dr. Mitchell did my surgery. I really appreciated his straightforward conversation and have never had such an amazingly organized, kind, professional hospital experience. They are doing it right and I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to these wonderful folks!

I had surgery yesterday, January 15,2020 at the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, FL. It was a very good experience. All the staff and doctors were friendly and very experienced. I would not want to have had this done anywhere else.

I cannot say enough good thing about my experience @ the Norman parathyroid center, from the 1st phone call to when I was wheeled out the door .
I had surgery 4/9/19 just 8 days ago the Dr's & the Staff & the App informed & educated me & my husband on all the details of my surgery
Thanks to Dr.Parrick whom I spoke with 3 times that day ( before surgery, after surgery, & a call that evening to check up on me ) I was thoroughly impressed on how much time he took w/ us to help us understand the process . The App was wonderful because it helped to answer questions I had over the next few days . Thanks to all who were involved in my surgery.

Hello I want to say a Big Thank You to all the wonderful team at NPC
When I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism I felt very sad especially when I realised there was no alternative treatment to treat this condition other than surgery
After searching and joining support groups I decided if I was going to have surgery it was going to be at the Norman Parathyroid Centre
They are truly the best place to have this treatment
Iam so glad I did as they were true to their word
They are professional and have the best expertise than any place
I had surgery last week and travelled from the UK and iam so very glad that I did
All the people I met there from the receptionist nurses anaesthetist and of course amazing surgeons were very kind and super fabulous in what they did
Thank you Dr Norman for having created this Best Practice Centre
My life has indeed been transformed
I no longer have brain fog and no more muscle and bone pain

I am a Physician. These guys are amazing. I had had thyroid surgery in the past, so there were scars. I thought I had only one adenoma That s what the scan done here in Cleveland showed. They are so thorough that they found two at adenomas and removed them both. I had a little pain in the postoperative period, but did not require any medications. By the time the next day came around (24 hours after surgery), I had no pain at all!!!
In fact, if I had forgotten that I had had surgery the day before, I would not have been able to tell.
If you need surgery on your parathyroid glands, I endorse the Norman parathyroid center totally.

Last Tuesday I had surgery with Dr. Douglas Politz and his team. From doctors to nurses and support staff, they are all amazing!. Norman Parathyroid Center is a place of excellence to treat parathyroid disease. I traveled from Chicago where I live because I ve heard wonderful things about their expertise, organization and care. I m glad I made that decision. I highly recommend Dr. Politz. He is an exceptional surgeon who has a wonderful way to communicate with patients.

10 years ago I had surgery at the Norman Parathyro...

10 years ago I had surgery at the Norman Parathyroid Center (NPC) that removed three hyperplastic parathyroids. This was after many frustrating months seeing a board-certified endocrinologist who despite head-scratching and "hmmm-ing" plus $1500 worth of inept "tests" was unable to make a diagnosis. So... I sent the labs from the endocrine-guy to Tampa where NPC immediately diagnosed hyperparathyroidism and set up a surgical appointment.

After the surgery in Tampa I felt better than I had for many years...until, that is, last June when I began experiencing constant pain as well as ankle swelling and increasing hypertension. The local doctors once again seemed bored by it. However, lab tests came in showing 10.4 serum calcium - and I immediately recognized that my last lonely parathyroid gland was misbehaving (even if the local docs couldn't figure it out, by golly I could! ) Because I had only one parathyroid, I contacted Doug Politz MD at NPC; and eventually (3 months later) he agreed to schedule surgery in Tampa. Since I am 83 and traveling alone from California, it was a challenge, but within hours after this surgery the pain and ankle swelling were gone. What did they find? The remaining parathyroid had developed an adenoma (benign tumor), and was putting out PTH in very large inappropriate amounts! The NPC surgeons were able to separate the gland itself (still normal) from the adenoma, and now all parts are working once again while excised adenoma is being chopped up and examined microscopically by some pathologists, in Tampa I presume!

I cannot imagine more accurate diagnosis or better care for parathyroid disease than the Norman Parathyroid Clinic. Outstanding doctors, outstanding nursing staff, and a caring support staff in every way! They have given me back my life. In Tampa, even all the taxi Drivers know you are there for parathyroid surgery and where they need to take you - how about THAT? There is no better parathyroid clinic anywhere.

I came all the way from Norway.
I felt welcome at the same time I walked in to the hospital. Everybody was smiling and explain me very well what should happen to me that day. I was very relaxed. I really recommend this hospital to others.

I m a 69 year old retired nurse & made a self referral to the Norman Parathyroid Center. This was the BEST thing I did for myself. My doctor didn t believe I had a parathyroid problem but I did after reading all the information from NPC.

The office staff is incredible & very helpful through the entire process. Dr. Ruan called & said that I was approved for surgery & answered all the concerns/questions I had.

Kathy gave me several dates for the surgery & after talking with my travel agent, I had the surgery date scheduled. She also helped me select the hotel that is pet friendly. We stayed at the Hampton Inn & it was wonderful. They arranged Uber rides to & from airport, for COVID testing & to Tampa General Hospital for surgery.

Everyone I met the day of surgery was so kind, professional & relieved any anxiety I had. Dr. Ruan removed 3 1/2 hyperplasia parathyroid glands. He is so knowledgeable, caring & reassuring. After reading his bio, my husband quit asking why we were going to Tampa for my surgery!

Thanks to Dr. Ruan and the entire team, I m on the road to a full recovery. There are no better words to hear, you are cured!! After two days, the fatigue, headaches & heart palpitations are gone. I feel like my old self and don t have that horrible sick feeling any longer.

If you need parathyroid surgery, please go see the best doctors and their incredible team at the NPC at Tampa General Hospital. They gave me my life back......thanks so much!!

I can not say enough good things about Norman Parathyroid Center. After suffering from this disease for more then 15 years and a botched up surgery from a Ohio doctor, I truly believe I am cured. I had my surgery April 11,2018 by Dr. Norman and his staff. When Doctor Norman came in and showed me the picture of the tumor I thought I was still dreaming. Doctor Norman believed in me when other doctors were basically telling me I was nuts. The morning after the surgery I had no bone pain and haven't had any since the surgery, I still feel like I am dreaming. I can actually sit on the floor and get up with no pain and no assistance. I went shopping the day after the surgery and did so much walking with no pain. I am actually waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up from this dream. I went back to work today, one week after the surgery and I feel as if my concentration level is already doing better. I was given everyone of the surgeons cell phone numbers in case I would need to get a hold of them. I actually received a call from Dr. Norman the night of my surgery telling me how happy he was for me that he was able to help me. He along with all the other surgeons, nurses and staff are wonderful. I will forever be grateful to them. Please if you have this disease please don't mess around go to the BEST!!! Norman Parathyroid Center is the BEST!!!

The best medical/surgical experience ever. Impressed by the care and follow up extended by Dr. Parrack. The surgery was for my mom, she doesn t speak English but the nurses and doctors had me on the phone throughout the entire process. I was impressed.

Two weeks post surgery and I just returned from a mile long lap swim. Within days after surgery, I was back to normal activities and hour long walks with my dog. The hardest part of recovery for me was the jet lag(flying the day after surgery from Tampa to the west coast of Canada) and aftereffects of anaesthetics. Feeling the zest for life again. My brain fog has lifted already. And I was one who thought I was asymptomatic. I look forward to recovery of my bone density. My scar is a fading memory. I was diagnosed mid March with primary Hyperparathyroidism, did my research and discovered the Norman Parathyroid Centre, referred myself, and had the surgery within a month. Presurgery contacts with the Centre staff and doctors was prompt, informative, supportive and friendly. The App is fantastic, and answers all questions, and totally prepares you for the experience. The day of surgery was just as described. A bit of assembly line, like a well oiled machine, but engendered confidence. Everyone knows what they are doing and provides care compassionately. I have no regrets, and the whole experience was worth every penny. By the way, I am a recently retired physician in Canada.

From the moment the elevator doors opened on the 6th floor of the NPC I knew I was in good hands. I stepped out into a calm ,polished enviroment that reminded me of a executive boardroom rather than a hospital. I was greeted by name and shown a nice waiting room. The room was occupied by other patients just like me eager for surgery. We shared stories as we waited to be called. Admissions was very quick and efficient . I was brought back to the surgical area and made comfortable while I waited for Dr. Norman to consult with me before I went in for my scan. The nurses were friendly and professional. Everyone was dressed in blue scrubs and not those horrible cartoon tops that some hospital staff wear these days! Dr. Norman was very interested in my history asked questions and took notes. He wrote some things down to send to my endocrinologist . Dr. Norman explained to me in easy to understand laymen turns what he would be doing and what I could expect afterwards. Everything went exactly as he described and I am cured. I can not recommend this Center high enough!

Absolutely the best experience ever! My family and I were well informed as to pre-op, surgery, and post-op instructions. In addition, each staff member was kind, friendly, skilled, extremely knowledgeable, and put us all at ease. I would recommend Norman Parathyroid Center and Tampa General Hospital to all! Thank you for helping me and giving me such a great experience!!

I highly recommend the Norman Parathyroid Centre. 3 weeks ago I flew up from Jamaica to have my surgery at Tampa General Hospital. Thanks to my Patient Coordinator, the team at the office, my surgeon, Dr. Politz and his hospital team my experience was stress free. Dr. Politz spoke to my family and I before and after surgery, explaining everything, thus making us feel totally at ease. We were able to drive back to Fort Lauderdale after surgery and fly back to Jamaica 3 days later. The Parathyroid Guide App is very helpful. It answers any questions you might have.

This THIRTEEN MINUTE SURGERY cost well over $20,000, that does not include about $2500. paid to the doctor directly. Patients need to know this when they go into it.

The procedure went well, their web site, YouTube, video's etc. were great, as a newspaper publisher I can tell you their PR is bar none the best. However, the entire time that Dr. Norman sat with me before surgery he spoke with a guest physician speaking all about how stupid my primary care physician and endocrinologist were for their not being able to diagnose it earlier and what ridiculous tests were done that were not needed Not what you would expect from a surgeon that is going to operate on you in a few minutes.

I'm so thankful I found Dr Norman! After 3 unsuccessful surgeries in the last 10 yrs, he cured my hyperparathyroidism in an hour!! Everyone in his office & at the hospital have all been so kind & made the process painless, even though we were out of state!

Everyone was nice , polite and very patient . From the moment that we walked in we were greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Everyone worked as a well oiled machine being very helpful throughout my time there. Even in the operating room before I was out everyone was working to do their job precisely. You couldn t ask for anything better. But maybe the coffee I heard. I don t drink it myself. I want to thank the entire team for making my time there a wonderful experience. What a great group of staff!!

My experience with Norman Parathyroid Center has been extremely positive! My surgeon, Dr. Kevin Parrack is the best! He was in contact throughout the entire experience and was patient and compassionate in his response to my apprehension. His erudite explanations and descriptions of the procedures lowered my anxiety level, adding to my comfort level about having surgery at my age (86). My family was pleased with the pre and post op. visits from Dr. Parrack as well as other OR team doctors. I'm feeling a little better each day, eating well ( loving the ice cream ). Incision is healing well. (Hint) Placing Calcium Citrate pills in a small plastic snack bag and using the smooth side of a meat mallet to pulverize them helps!!!! Nurses and other auxiliary hospital staff were excellent. App is a wonderful tool! Thank you for taking good care of me! Will be in touch.

From registration to discharge, the medical staff of Norman Parathyroid Center made me feel like a beloved family member. Dr. Parrack made me feel at ease, explaining in detail pre and post surgery procedures. My surgery was a complete success all due the expert hands of Dr. Parrack and all members of his medical team. And just to ensure that my recovery continued without further complications, Dr. Parrack personally called me upon my return home the evening of my surgery.

My surgery was wonderful. Great staff everybody knows their job and does it great. Love you guys. What can I say about my Doctor's. Dr Deva Boone was lead surgeon and Dr Parrack assisted. They found two adenomas. The bigger one showed on the scan but other one was found during surgery. That is why it so important they check all four glands. You are awesome. Thank you so much and I'm very impressed with the Norman PT Center. Love to all.
Home now a little sore but feeling great. So glad to be rid of the evil twins. Lol!

The Norman Parathyroid Center is the only place r to have this surgery.
Everyone is thorough , cautious,, and excellent in the performance of their medical expertise, always considering every medical issue that could affect the patient and the success of this operation. I would highly recommend to anyone, without reservation , who needs this surgery to only have it done at The Norman Parathyroid Center.

Thank You!!!

I had my surgery January 15, 2018 and I am beyond pleased that I went with the Norman Parathyroid Center. I had two of the best surgeons: Dr. Ruan and they partnered with Dr. Clayman. They both checked on me pre op, and post op. Their nurses demostrated to me that they truly care about their patients. I highly recommend the Norman parathyroid thyroid center to anyone that needs to have parathyroid surgery. They get it done the first time and get it done right. Thank you Dr Ruan and Dr. Clayman!

Dr Norman performed surgery on me that failed to help me. Dr Norman, his website, and his phone app all misdiagnosed me. Since then I found the right treatment, explained what happened to Dr Norman, and received no response. Recommending the right treatment in cases such as mine would result in less surgery and less profit.

Hyperparathyroidism means that you have too much PTH, the hormone that regulates the amount of calcium in your blood. This can happen because of a tumor, which can be removed by surgery. Or it can happen because you lose too much calcium in your kidneys, which can be cured with a common medication.
Some people, such as me, have healthy kidneys that lose too much calcium. Dr Norman denies this possibility and performs ineffective and unnecessary surgery. This is wrong.

Very thankful for the surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, radiologist and staff members at the Norman Parathyroid Center. Everyone was welcoming, kind and friendly. My family and I received excellent care. This was the best experience at a hospital or medical facility, we have ever received. Their dedication and expertise is the highest ever!

I am writing this review as a surgeon with 25 years experience and the chief of my department at a major Northeastern hospital system. From my initial virtual consult thru discharge (and an evening phone call to check on me) this team has been off the charts. Their method of identification of functioning glands using the gamma probe far surpasses the "Miami" criteria: it's difficult logistically to pull off, that's why no one else does it. Though I had osteopenia, my symptoms were mild and some advised me to 'sit tight'. 24 hours later, my erratic heartbeats from episodic hypercalcemia are virtually gone. This is a life changer. I feel so very grateful in particular to Doug Politz, Jose Lopez and Jamie Mitchell. You can tell by the way these guys pal around at the nurses station they are brothers, good buddies, and philosophically aligned. I have rarely seen a paramedical team as cohesive, energetic and welcoming...starting with Sue at the front desk, Leo and Beth, Vincent in radiology, Micky my transport buddy among others. If you have this problem, Tampa is the cure. Take your Ferrari to a Ferrari dealer.

This is to the owner who posted: a lot of work is performed to compile the patient's records from various doctors, graph lab reports (nobody else does this), . I want to give some fair, constructive criticism of the things you said in your post.

Just something that potential patients and owner should be aware of: I think it would be extremely beneficial to email the records release to the patient, patient sign and email or upload the signed consents to you. That way, your employees would be doing the the work of gathering medical records. **I have completed the releases and sent to appropriate providers; but because I am so sick with rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses, it took me a long time..

***Just wanted to be clear: A lot of work is actually done also by the Patients that are requesting all of the needed medical records.

I sent my original medical records in, and the was advised by Holly S. That I now need to retrieve my medical records from a nonST MI that occurred about 2 years ago.

**Difficult process for new potential patient. am still working on getting a telephone consult.

After being diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism, I researched NPC and immediately knew this was where I needed to go. I self-referred and within a few months I had surgery to remove a possibly 20 year-old tumor. After a 15 hour drive from Texas, Dr. Parrack was amazing, the entire staff was! Everything was run so smooth. I had a tricky case with my tumor being attached to my larryngeal nerve and thyroid. I truly believe if I had gone somewhere else it would have been a medical disaster. Also, after finding out my scan was negative and showed no tumor, I believe most other endos and offices may have turned me away. I am 4 days post-op and already feeling better. Surgeon experience is a must in hyperparathyroidism, and I will forever be grateful for Dr. Parrack and the entire staff.

I had an amazing experience at the Norman Parathyroid Center (12/21/2017). Before selecting the NPC, I did exhaustive research and evaluated doctors in New York City and Los Angeles. Ultimately, I selected the NPC because of their extensive surgical experience and their method of using radio-guided, minimally invasive surgery to evaluate all four parathyroid glands.

From my initial outreach to the day of surgery to post-op discussions, I found the entire team at the Norman Parathyroid Center to be highly professional, well-trained, supportive and caring. My phone consultation with Dr. Parrack was extremely valuable he took the time to answer all my questions and provided me a balanced perspective. The NPC administrative staff made scheduling and paperwork easy they were super responsive to phone calls and emails. The iPhone app that the NPC has created was hugely helpful in preparing for my trip down to Tampa and guiding me through pre- and post-surgery.

My actual day of surgery was well choreographed and amazingly efficient. The doctors, nurses, orderlies, and administrators were all warm, friendly, and supportive. They provided clear communications and always kept me informed as what I should expect. Prior to the surgery, I met with all three doctors on staff that day. Dr. Boone performed the surgery which went extremely well with no complications. She followed up with me by phone that evening and I also connected with her via text message in the following days. Dr. Boone was extremely knowledgeable, confident, reassuring, and supportive throughout the entire process (pre- to post-op).

Overall, I feel incredibly fortunate to have found and selected the NPC for my parathyroid surgery.

I have my life back!! Dr. Norman and his Parathyroid Center literally saved my life! When I began seeking medical advice I was feeling as though someone else was in my body creating havoc on my body, personality and I knew something was terribly wrong. Thinking it was possibly crazy hormone levels that were creating my changes, I decided to seek professional help. My ARNP ordered blood work months prior to my surgery and told me I had high blood calcium levels and wanted to watch the levels rather than do anything to correct the calcium levels. This went on for months with 3 actual blood tests. Don't rely on thinking that some health professionals have your best interests at heart. If you know something is definitely off, take the initiative and do your own research.
Thankfully we have the internet and when I entered high blood calcium Norman Parathyroid Center came up. I contacted them and requested to become a patient. The Center contacted me right away and I began the paperwork, requested my medical records and the process began.
It has been less than a month since the surgery and I have my energy, my smile and my zest for life back. I cannot say enough about Dr. Norman and his Center for their professionalism, care, surgical expertise and knowledge. I had a large right upper adenoma producing 6843 hormone (nl = 30-80) and a clinically enlarged left lower parathyroid which were removed.
NORMAN PARATHYROID CENTER IS THE ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD TO GO IF YOU HAVE HYPERPARATHYROIDISM, I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR CENTER!!!!!!

I had surgery on Oct 7th (today is Oct 25th) and it was the best experience you could imagine. One adenoma was removed. The app is superb because the information is all accurate and so helpful, written well. One suggestion is to include the fact that the thyroid may be inflamed and cause high bp and pulse a week or two after surgery. If I had known about this possible complication, I wouldn't have had so much fear of a heart problem. This complication is self-limiting so no treatment is needed, usually. I was impressed that my surgeon called to check on me after this complication occurred and that he had time to address all my questions. They truly seem to be the best at what they do, have excellent processes and people skills and can relieve the anxiety of anticipating an operation. Thanks so much, NPC!

My experience with Norman Parathyroid Center was o...

My experience with Norman Parathyroid Center was one that I will not forget. Truly a great group of professionals from emails to phone conversations and consultation and surgery. I was one of those percentages that had questionable blood work results. Not a clear and definite evidence of primary parathyroid disease. I had symptoms related to the disease especially bone pain. Dr. Parrack consulted with me via phone on a Saturday morning, January 4th, to review my records that he received and determined I needed to wait 3 weeks and do PTH/calcium bloodwork off of Vitamin D3 because it has a tendency to muck up the results. (Dr. Parracks words) I then repeated it again a week later. A few weeks later I heard back from Dr. Parrack regarding the results and he told me that again he couldn't give me a definitive answer without actually doing the surgery to look at all 4 glands. The February 3rd results was typical parathyroid disease but the one that was a week before (January 27th) was questionable. I decided to move forward and schedule surgery. The app is a wonderful tool preparing you as well as the website. I did my research in advance and can only recommend that if you have parathyroid disease this is the place to go.
Thank you Dr. Parrack and your team. I am feeling so much better even though I'm 6 days post-op.

I live in Nashville, TN and when I found out I needed surgery on my parathyroids I met with a surgeon in Nashville. I had done lots or research prior to my appointment and found Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa. NPC explained their surgery procedure which was that they checked all four parathyroids during each of their surgeries to ensure that they can identify all potential tumors and to remove them so you can get well.
The local surgeon in Nashville I met with explained the surgical procedure they use. They use radio technology to find a parathyroid tumor. They remove that tumor and if the PTH drops (checked in surgery) by 50% they stop and your surgery is done. They say that procedure is successful removing all tumors 85% of the time. I chose NPC in Tampa. I wanted to be 100% tumor free. Dr. Politz was fabulous. He has the experience and expertise I needed. I had one larger tumor and a small tumor that was attached to my vocal chords. He removed the two parathyroids and I am talking away. I m forever grateful. I highly recommend NPC and Dr. Politz.

EVERYONE @ THE NORMAN PARATHYROID CENTER WAS WONDERFUL & VERY EFFICIENT. DR. POLITZ WAS WONDERFUL - HE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND PUT ME @ EASE IMMEDIATELY. I THINK HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THE SURGERY; NOT ONLY DO I FEEL GREAT, BUT THE INCISION IS VERY TINY.
THE WHOLE STAFF WAS VERY ORGANIZED & FRIENDLY.
I RECOMMEND NORMAN PARATHYROID CENTER TO EVERYONE.

I traveled from Indiana to have my surgery , on the 21 of September .
I will forever be grateful that they were able to find and remove the tumor , the doctor in Indiana suggested I let it grow so he could possible find it later, or face a 4hr surgery that we where told could be very painful .

I am so glad I choose to not follow that advise , and go to the Norman Parathyroid Center. They took excellent care of me , very caring and very professional . I was in recovery a short while, maybe 2 hrs, went to our hotel , took a nap , and went out to dinner that evening feeling fine with a bandaid on my incision . I only took a couple of Tylenol and that was it . I highly recommend if you need parathyroid surgery , choose the best , the Norman Parathyroid Center. My calcium levels are in normal ranges now and I am feeling well. Thank you to all the Staff and Doctors that attended to me, I can't thank you enough .
