R H Review of Norman Parathyroid Center

I was diagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism four months ago. I had many of the described symptoms of hypercalcemia for a long time. My calcium level was only 10.6, climbing to 12mg/dL in few weeks. Normal 24 hr urine calcium, low vit D, high PTH of 75 pg/ml. A bone density study showed osteopenia My endocrinologist wanted to follow me in six months since I had not have any kidney stones and although I had osteopenia, there was no osteoporosis. He started me on Vit D supplement, which I stopped as soon as I read the PTHospital App. My experience at TGH went above and beyond my expectations. From the initial phone call from nursing staff to Dr Politz I felt the passion with which this team does their job. Once in preoperative area, Dr Parrack did the first assessment and he was wonderful in summarizing and explaining my experience of this disease, the way it is even nowadays seen by the medical community that still has an outdated way of watching you instead of taking care of the problem, based on outdated ways to look at this disease.
My anesthesiology team was wonderful and they listened to all my concerns. Heidi CRNA you did great! Kay, the OR nurse was a hoot, and cheered me up (or was it the meds?, no both really). Out we went to the OR and I remembered being told that Propofol was going in.... next I am in recovery waking up with 6/10 pain. Not really a sore throat, but I would say purely incisional pain. As described, it goes away nearly half per hour. Tylenol with ibuprofen did the job. The incision gets puffy as described in the App (you need to get it!). Also, RN Jacky was great during my pre and post op experience.
Dr Politz discharged me after a PTH level down to 5.9. (From 75), and called me later at night. My picture with the tumor was a great thing to share with my family, so they could see what came out of me. I will never forget this team that took care of me, thank you all. I am on my second day postop and I feel already better, more active and without this cloud in my mind! Only taking pain killers at night. TGH Norman Parathyroid Center has this down to a science, making the whole process look easy, for a surgery historically messy and complicated, that thanks to their technique it seems like nothing. Thank you again sincerely to everyone involved in my care.
