Two years after being diagnosed with osteoporosis,...

Two years after being diagnosed with osteoporosis, I finally discovered that it was being caused by an overactive parathyroid gland, primary hyperparathyroidism. For almost a year I also had a sensation that something was lodged on the right side of my throat, causing me to occasionally cough and try to clear my throat. Swallowing and my voice were being affected, but I didn t realize all these were related to the parathyroid tumor.
The only treatment for hyperparathyroidism is surgery, and I chose to travel to the Norman Parathyroid Center (from Oregon) for this. Once I made that call, I felt like I was being taken care of every step of the way. The entire staff is exceptionally caring, and knowledgeable. Dr. Parrack was my incredible surgeon. I wish I could remember the names of each nurse and member of the team. They were professional, knowledgeable and extremely caring. Only one of my glands had developed into a tumor, but in Dr. Parrack s words, It s been there for quite awhile , because it was 1 1/2 centimeters long and 1/2 centimeter wide (from the size of a grain of rice). Post surgery I only had minor pain and was tired, but with rest and ice packs the healing process was uneventful. My husband and I flew home 2 days after surgery. Miraculously, on day 3 post surgery, I woke with absolutely NO SENSATION of something stuck in my throat, no need to clear it, and my voice was normal again! That tumor had been pressing on my esophagus and vocal chords! My life has already changed for the better and now I know that I can reverse the osteoporosis.

I m writing this only 6 days post surgery and I can say that I wouldn t choose any other place to have parathyroid surgery done. Thank you, Norman Parathyroid Center...and thank you, Dr. Parrack.
