I m warning you now, DO NOT BANK WITH THIS CREDIT UNION! You will live to regret it like me. I recently opened a checking and savings account with them. My employer cut me a paper check while my direct deposited was being processed. When I tried to cash my check, they placed a hold on it for 7 days. No one ever told me about this beforehand. What financial institution places holds on payroll checks in 2018? They couldn t even give the courtesy of releasing part of the funds. I ve already opened another account and can t wait until the money clears and I can close this one.

I do not like how this credit union conducts business. If you have a problem with anything they are rude and overbearing they refuse to correct errors they make. My loan has been charged fees for several months the credit union said I missed several payments, took money from my savings without my authorization and said I was behind two months when I was actually ahead. If you call they love to hang up on customers or pretend they can't hear you. Nice location attractive building but a hot mess when it comes to services. Update: Thank you for your assistance. Everyone, (staff especially the security guard) was nice, patient, and professional. Thank you to Southfield EMS ( fire department). They were very knowledgeable and efficient. Even the police was nice, a little nosey, but ok. A special thanks goes to the gentleman who helped me.(I don't know his name). There are still some nice people in the world today. I will have to change my one star to four. Loan department still needs a little help! Thanks again!
I just spent 50 minutes on hold with their 365 live call center. While the hold message repeatedly told me I was caller number one in the queue and my estimated hold time was 1 minute. How is this possible. Do not advertise a 24/7 call center if you cannot staff or run it properly.
Customer service is horrible. It s always a hassle to handle business at Southfield evergreen location. Nothing is simply with Michigan First and the customer is always inconvenienced even when their at fault.
I am trying to reach a representative about Dinsurance. policy. I have been transferred and disconnected 3 times in the last 5 minutes. Make that 4 times.
NEVER EVER BANK HERE! These people will take you for every last penny. Just did a pay off on a truck loan and had the deal done. they contact me weeks later saying i have a balance of $42 remaining due to interest and fee's after the payoff was already complete and then that bumped up another $3 when paying over the phone!!! NEVER EVER BANK HERE!
I'm a college student. Went to this location for a loan, met with a black woman who gave me HORRIBLE service. She acted like she barely wanted to be there and couldn't wait for me to leave. Sorry to say, I will not only NOT be returning to this location but also won't be talking to any representatives at this location.
This has been by far the best bank I have had. They have literally helped me in every way possible. I have recommended ppl and they also helped them build there credit and get loans they normally will get declined for. I would recommend them with out a doubt. Never had an issue.
Terrible Credit Union. Every time some type of life event happens they treat you like a stranger on the street. No one at this Credit Union will ever communicate the same thing to you. Where are the rules and guidelines? If you call in the morning you will get one response call after 6p.m. you will receive another response. They will always apologize for the inconvenience but won t ensure that it won t happen again.
My boyfriend is a customer and he pays his car note on time and his car was repossessed due to mistakes made in the system. Mistakes no one wants to correct or own up to. I sent pictures to this credit union of the damages done to his car and property by the repo guys. He had to pay $50.00 to get his car out and they won't give him the money back. He is considering taking legal action if nothing changes.
They give out loans when you make less money and have lower credit score. They deny loans when you have higher credit score and more money. A joke "credit union."
Been a member in good standing for over 10 years. There was an unauthorized bill payment withdrawal from my account a company and individual whom I ve never heard of. I was told that I d need to turn in a dispute, wait up to 7 days for my case to be investigated, possibly another 10 days for the investigation to be completed and then maybe my funds would be returned. What kind of customer fraud protection is that? I have over 100.00 tied up until, who knows when.

This credit union picks on you because....why, I do not know....every month....they make you pay for overdraft charges, even when you have money in there...that is so frequently done with me....then you have to argue with them to return it and they never admit that the system is wrong....even if it shows on your statement.....
This is the best credit union out there they go 110% to try to work with you something very few other credit unions or banks will even do not everyone has the big money where you can go to a bank but Michigan First is the best for all your needs
Amazing service. After we refinanced our car, they sent us a gift basket. They've helped me through identify theft issues. Been banking with them for 11 years!
PROS: the number of locations, variety of services, ATM availability, professional interaction with staff, easy to open an account. Safe Deposit boxes are the best service they offer.
CONS: No late night hours (after 6 pm). Services fees for every little thing (credit union members are owners- so why charge so many fees?). Very strict lending practices (difficult to secure loans and credit lines). Money now (read the agreement carefully before you opt in)
DO NOT BANK HERE!! My account was hacked two times in one day and I literally had to act a fool to get the attention of the banking manager to pay me my money bank. Then years later, still have some money going there and I have to send my account information in an email. That s not secure. Did everything I could to verify my account with the reps from 365 live and was still told Ma am send us your account number in a email or fax. Who still uses a fax?! This institution is a joke. I finally just closed it. Go to a bank, not this credit union! I know too many people who ve had their account information hacked into from this credit union, and we didn t receive any notification. AWFUL!!!! DO NOT BANK WITH MICHIGAN 1ST!!! Terrible CUSTOMER SERVICE on the phone and in the branch. Michigan 1st staff is not knowledgeable of there own polices and procedures. The phone staff, branch staff, and management will ALL tell you something different and blame it on someone else. They will always apologize but never fix the issue. Your money is NOT protected, and there security features to protect your money SUCKS!!! LASTLY calling that 800 number is useless.
I have been a member with MFCU since I was 16 years old. (11 years now). This is by far the best, the fees are low, they don t charge for every little thing, the money perks are great and easy to redeem for little fees to be reversed, or not paying for certain services. also recently I needed a DD letter for a new job, and I just got a personal hand written letter from the 365 live rep that helped me saying congrats on the new job. It s personal touches like that that will keep me as a member for years to come.
I m so done with Michigan First Credit Union. I have been with them for 24years since I was 8 years old. As an adult I m having real adult issues that requires the NEED of a loan. It s not even double digit loan. So because they stated that I have no real history as I have been rehabilitating or building non existent credit for a year. They aren t willing to take a chance and help a long time member. What s the point of being a long time member if there aren t any perks AT ALL. At this time I m strongly considering leaving. Like if 24 years worth of membership isn t consistent I really don t know what is.
On 4/7 I was informed of fraud on my debit card I went into the office & was issued only a new debit card...The exact same thing happened on 4/20....I went back into the office & issued a new debit card I asked the clerk why not change my entire account & card to stop this..they said it will be a $50 fee....WHAT TYPE OF SERVICE IS THIS
I can say Michigan First was a very nice Bank starting out with a credit union being a young person and then they started trying to do new programs but with them now being a new bank they closed out more ATMs their app is much slower and then they try to overdraft for everything even if you have money in your account have to watch everything now. I just don't like that it was very nice at first especially being young and learning how to bank. But you have to becarefull with these people.

Bryan Anstandia has a condescending personality which does not belong in Customer service. Customer service communications is not his forte. His communication skills are second to none. A part of Communication take listening skills. I tried to cash a check with Michigan first and they refused due to the check not being in their system 3 at least times. I have been a customer for at least two years with no issues. Bryan Anstandia told me he would like to keep it that way; as if he had to police me into being a good patron; he also said this is not a check cashing place as if check cashing is not offered at this institution; this guy is a joke.The rules here are not consistent because they have cashed a check that I presented to them before which did not meet their protocol. Bryan Anstandia should not be the face of this institution or any institution. Pleeeease remove him from speaking to patrons. I would have given less but Jasmine was pleasant and professional.
I joined the credit union because everyone was telling me how they are way better than banks. Well this credit union has done nothing for me that a bank wouldn't do. I was charged to open an account. I was denied an auto loan small auto loan at that. I have been a customer here for 5yrs. Never been in the negative have had direct deposit for 4yrs and still no help. They havent help me do anything with my credit even when i was turned down for the loan. No suggestions on what i should do to better qualify if i needed a loan again and it took them 5days to call me back after numerous notes were supposedly put in for a call back to get the status of my loan. All that hassel just to be denied. I am beyond dissapointed in this credit union feels no different then a bank and i will not continue to do business here for long.
I ve been banking with Michigan first since I was in middle school and my mother have also been with them 6years +. I love them every issue I have is fixed ASAP, no pointless fees, mobile banking is great, great with loans and 24 7 ATMS everywhere.
Now it's my turn a few months later and I guess the quality, consistent, reliable customer service agents wasn't working that week I encountered the 365 live call center customer service. So I arrive at Michigan First Credit Union, the reception told me I had to call first so I called from my phone while in the lobby ( I didn't know you had to call first, this process is set up like a secret or something) anyway I spoke with the first lady who was very courteous she asked how she could help I explained I needed another debit card she said let me see if a manager is available to help you. I explained to her I was in the lobby. She put me on hold came back and stated it would take 15mins before a manager could come and help me and it would be a fee of 12 dollars. I didn't have it in my account, I told her I get paid tomorrow can you still help me today by getting me a card since I'm here and just take the funds tomorrow (since me and my husband bank with them) she said no we can't, I said okay I will come back tomorrow. Well things happen and I couldn't make it back up there until the following week 3/7/19. Now my husband informed me I had been charged $12 by Michigan First Credit Union and I was like why. So I was like I will ask why they charged me when I never went back up there???? So when talking to Brook the second agent on the 365 live customer service line she was very rude talking fast and trying to rush me of the line and talking over me when I asked why I was charged. She stated we can't help you, you have to call for an appointment unlike the first lady who kindly said let me see if someone is available. Now mind you they already charged me and now they can't help me without an appointment so now I'm getting perturbed and informed Brook this is not what the last customer service agent told me just last week(as far as trying to help me). Brooke was acting like I couldn't get any help.
I said so I'm calling now and I was here before and was getting help so what's the difference I've already paid I can't get my card and why would she charge me for a card and I never came back. Brook said the other agent put in her notes she was sending me out a card in the mail and we could pull the call to see what really happened.I said not necessary I just want my card. Then Brook says your card has already been shipped out. Now I failed to mention I asked Brook this in the beginning of the conversation and she was so busy telling me about the service I couldn't get she did answer my question then. Brook is talking so fast at this point trying to get me off her line. I said what you can do is get your manager and ask if they can help me and I will decide if I want to wait or not for the appointment time basically....smh. So Brook put me on hold and I'm sure told her manager something to her benefit because Brook comes back on the line and says my manager said that they are too busy and will not be able to help me. But they could cancel the card and I could pay another 12 dollars right then.... (maybe this was the help my bad) how Ridiculous...I said that makes no sense, I will just wait on the card to come in the mail. I just wanted to get off her line but not before I told her how disappointed I was in there customer service for Michigan First Credit Union 365 live call center.
I went in and applied for an auto loan 16 days ago and was told that application was good for 30 days. I went into a dealership today and called MF and they said they had nothing on file. I've been on hold (still am) for over an hour and a half to make a complaint. This entire situation is awful and I will be pulling mine along with 4 separate accounts out of this credit union if I do not get the result I want exactly. At least 10 years I've been with this credit union and this really infuriated me. Currently on hold 1:46:38....still
Michigan First has been a great experience! I was on the search for a car and they were the only ones able to approve me at a decent percentage rate for my credit. Other places were telling me 20% and higher! Yikes! Thankful I was approved through them. I got to work with Cynthia H. and she was great, the buying and approval process was very simple. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone having a hard time getting approved for a loan other places, I literally had applied to 30 different places. Thanks to Michigan first I was able to get the car I wanted and now I can certainly get my credit back on track with a lower interest rate than before!
I have never been nickel and dimed as hard as I have since I have been with this CU. If they feel you owe them a few bucks, they will just take it out your account without giving you any notice. I have not enjoyed my service here and when I get done paying my car loan off next year I will cancel same day I pay it off.
Michigan First you are the best!!!!! You have went above and beyond with customer service and meeting all my needs. I have been with this credit union since 2008 and not once have I ever been disappointed !!!
Fees, fees, too many fees. The claim is that this financial institution is member owned is dubious, with the outrageous fees that are assessed. The structure seems more like a bank than a credit union, just there to increase bottom line.
I went on maternity leave, my $20 gym membership cost me two insufficient funds equaling $60. With every intention on paying it back when I returned to work in the next few weeks, i later realized they closed my accounts. My savings, checking and my credit card. I'm furious!!. I don't feel valued as a member. In my 6 week time frame I was on leave i talk with two different people for different reasons and neither one of them told me my savings and my credit card was closing. I'm thinking i have time to bring my account current not know all my other accounts were subjected to closing even though they were in good standing. That's ridiculous!! Credit unions suppose to be more about the people. I can't tell.
I've been a memeber with this credit union since 2005, literally and my loyalty does not mean much to them. That is clear. I was advised by family, friends and peers to stop checking into third parties for help and go directly to my credit union which I did.. Gave them all my personal business and let them know what was going on, waited and was declined for the loan I applied for. It was for a very small amount at that, less than $1000! This million dollar company can't afford to help out a loyal customer with something so small. I have direct deposit set up to my credit union account, sure thing that they would get their money and they just said no. I'm not asking for a handout, just help. Definitely will be doing some research and taking my services elsewhere moving forward. This is just one of many incidents I've had with Michigan First & potentially, hopefully the last as well!!
Used to be a good credit union up until about a year ago. Been a member since October 2011 and we are closing our accounts TODAY after work.
I have a new job so first check is paper. Did remote deposit amd there is a 2 business day hold for funds to be released. Account has never been in anything other than good standing from the day we opened it 6 years ago. They won't make an exception for this one check, RULES ARE RULES as they say at BANKS (you're just a number to them truly).
I told my wife about this and she remembered that she had to open a separate account a couple years ago because she was the co-owner of our account and couldn't apply for a loan because she wasn't the 'Primary' of the two OWNERS of the account and had to open her own separate account, RULES ARE RULES. Why didn't I apply and let her be secondary on the loan? Well my credit score was 50 points lower than hers and since they don't go by the higher score of the two and go by the lower, we would have paid more in interest, RULES ARE RULES.
After checking her account, they deducted $0.80 about a year ago making her fall below the $100 minimum requirement. Ever since they've been taking $3 from her account every month for being below the minimum. Never contacted or notified us in any form whatsoever, RULES ARE RULES!
They allowed her to remove the moneyperks from my joint account to cover the money they had taken from her personal account I'm surprised me there). However, they could only correct three of the errors and returned a whopping $9 because they aren't allowed to do anymore, RULES ARE RULES!!
I worked at a credit union call center for years and I never treated members the way we were treated over the phone on both of our calls! We always took every member and made the call and situation personal, there was never a RULE BOOK, every interaction and every outcome was different. Did we have rules? Absolutely, you have to, but we never left the member feeling like everything was black and white like this credit union makes us feel! Will be making a little stop after work to pull out all of our money! RULES ARE RULES!!!
Just was on the phone with someone by the name of James employee number #8996. Not even sure he gave me his correct name and employee number but that s what he gave me when I asked to speak with someone else due to his RUDE and over talking demeanor!!! This guy needs to be RETRAINED on customer service skills!!! He needs to learn how to talk to people without being DISRESPECTFUL!!!!! His RUDENESS was UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!
Long time Michigan first customer I lost my card on 4/26/19 and had a fraudulent charge of $190 from groupon. I Went into the branch on 4/27/19 for a replacement card and was told I had to wait to file a dispute because the charge was in pending status. I went back into the branch and filed my dispute and was treated as if I was lieng and the agent kept saying that I had my card at the time of the fraudulent charges which was not true .i haven't received my money back as of 5/29/19. I found out that My dispute was denied and I have had to go back to the branch to write a letter for Michigan first to re-open my dispute. I work hard for my money and thought I was signing up for a top notch credit union with the correct technology to make sure my money was safe and if fraud did happen I would be protected but that doesn't see To be the case. If I didnt have a credit card and line of credit balance remaining I would no longer be with Michigan first
I been with Michigan First credit union for the longest and every time I have a problem it get handled that day my customer service representative John Paul is the best and he will go to the extreme to make sure you leave happy so when you go there and for JP he is very prompt and going to try his best to make it happen for you

Apparently post don't show up on their facebook timeline unless they are positive reviews, so I will post here. After today I am extremely disappointed with this credit union. After receiving an overdraft fee I had tried contacting the credit union via online chat. I was disconnected twice due to the account automatically logging out from inactivity, although I was in the middle of a chat. The third and fourth times I was connected to a representative who just simply did not respond. I decided to call and was told repeatedly that nothing can be done without money perk points. I have a checking, savings and had multiple loans throughout the years that were paid. After a 5 week layoff having money taken out of my pocket is extremely disappointing. I had the total to cover the 53 dollar fee between my accounts, a long with the money perk points to cover transfer. However I was told the 10 dollars in my savings is not available for use because of a membership fee. I rarely overdraw my account (last time was December 2018)and have no problem paying the 31 dollars if I'm in error, but this again is extremely disappointing.
Michigan First was the one financial institution that gave me a second chance after my bankruptcy by financing my car and ever since then I have been able to get additional credit when needed. They are the best. They are friendly, professional and personable.

They just have no idea how to give good customer service. It s almost as if common sense and how to treat people eludes them. I waited for my drive up teller for over 10 minutes AFTER she greeted me to return and tell me I had to sign a slip that had no signature line on it. Fine. Comes back a white one 2 minutes later to say she needs my ID back that she has just had for 10 minutes. You obviously had it in your hand to check and see that my folded slip had no signature. I honestly believe the people that work here are broke and miserable because it s always something or I m hearing terrible things from other people. When I say it s always something I mean I have received more than one of their we re sorry gift baskets or phone calls. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!!
This credit union has been a HASSLE since I opened my account in 2017, I can t wait to close this account. They re CONSTANTLY freezing my deposits and customer service is slow & unreliable. Now I got to see first hand why so many people leave this credit union.
I walked in and 6 female bankers were having a personal conversation to even notice me. And then when I walked back to approach them because no one was at the counter, I still had to wait for them to finish their conversation before they even acknowledged me even though they already all had seen me. And when someone finally did say something to me, after I said excuse me , there was an uncomfortable pause as if no one wanted to help me and four of the six people immediately walked away. That was very odd and unprofessional. The way I was not greeted and dismissed, I prefer to go to another branch. I didn t even get a Hi. But the younger gentleman behind did. And he was serviced before me even though he came in behind me.
They are knowledgeable and helpful. Offer a variety of banking services and occasionally have cars for sale from local dealers and car rental services for qualified buyers and they will help you qualify for a loan if possible. Members are eligible for certain discounts when purchasing a car through their dealer partnership. And there is a restaurant attached and a cafe inside.
They have a scam where they take money from your bill payments 5 days before it's even due without proper warning. When I brought this to their attention they told me that they intentionally do this to people so they will buy their overdraft services. What kind of customers experience is that?
This Credit Union is amazing! I joined during my time at Lawrence Tech for convenience and ended up keeping it when I moved away. When I returned to the area I was thrilled to be able to use the ATM, coin counter, and 365 Live no matter the time of day.
Worst bank I ve ever tried to process a loan through - beyond extremely long wait times on everything - very unprofessional and very inexperienced loan officers - total waste of my time - steer clear of this bank!!!
These people are crooks, and their online banking features are horrible. Do your banking with a real financial institution. The little bit of money you make in interest isn t worth the hassle to do some ACTUAL banking.
