It was funny when our taxi did not go all the way after the performance, but in the theater they began silently gallantly turning off the lights, subtly hinting that it's time for us to fall)
In fact, a wonderful theater) I liked it

Visiting the Mariinsky Theater is like falling into a good old fairy tale again and again.
Everything is magical and legendary here.
In the cafe for intermission, you can pre-book a table and make an order. Convenient Screens show what is happening on stage.
NB The only thing that is better not to go here is Carmina Burana. At her - only to the Concert Hall!

In the historical hall, it is important for me to avoid seats in the stalls on the right, so as not to fall into places above the wind section. The voices of the singers get there badly.

A magnificent theater that cannot be missed when talking about Russian art. In particular, Theater I, which has been around for a long time, has beautiful buildings and it is fun to look around during intermission breaks. The salmon roe on French bread served with wine during the break is delicious, so we recommend that you try it once.

There are many exhibits at Theater II, and it is fun to look around them.

The ballet The Nutcracker was watched for the first time, and even on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater. Great ballet! Music, ballet production, costumes, sets ... They were at the day performance. There were three children in our box and they watched the whole production without stopping.
The most enthusiastic impressions from visiting the Mariinsky Theater were: a beautiful hall, comfortable chairs, places with an excellent overview of the stage (11 benoire beds, 2 and 4 seats) ... and a magnificent ballet by P.I. Tchaikovsky.

Cool theater. But next to the historic building of the old Mariinsky, the parking lot is a trap. With which the traffic police officers with great pleasure evacuate cars enjoying the performance at this moment, even that are NOT an obvious obstacle to traffic, despite the fact that there is no tow truck sign there!

I think the main scene of Peter doesn t need comments, you just need to visit here at least once in your life. And it is on the old stage !!! Thank you for having such a place in Petersburg !!

On the banks of the Krjukov Canal, with its rear facade facing the water, the Mariinsky Theater
Internationally ranked song and dance theater. There are 1,620 seats in the auditorium, and it can scarcely be said that it would not be a full house. Building by Albert Cavos, dated 1859.
Between 1934 and 1992 it was called the Kirov Theater, in memory of Sergei Kirov, the loyal Bolshevik leader of the city. (Becoming an increasingly popular - and thus in competition for Stalin - 1934 Kirov was killed. - the 'Great Leader' secret orders)
Original and present name II. Alexander's wife comes from the name of Mary. The history of the Mariinsky Theater is the most significant chapter in the history of Russian theater. The Russian National Opera was born on the stage. (Glinka - "A life of Czar '- the title was changed to" Szuszanyin Ivan "in the communist period). Almost all major Russian operas had their premiere here. The greatest Russian composers were constantly on anymore and they are: Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, etc.. Abroad, the theater was known mainly for its ballet dancers. Vaganova, Dudinskaya, Makarova, Nureyev and many more. Of the singers, it is enough to mention the name of Saljapin ...
To the left of the theater is a souvenir shop called "Mariinsky Art Shop", where CDs, videos, t-shirts, shawls, etc. of the successful ballet and opera performances. can I get.

Really just amazing and so historical. Don't miss out on this experience. If you go to an opera like I did, make sure that you get a good nights rest the day before or you will DIE when you watch it.

The Mariinsky Theater is one of the greatest opera and ballet theaters in Russia and the world. For more than two centuries of its history, it has become a symbol of Russian culture. The greatest composers MI wrote for this scene. Glinka, PI Tchaikovsky, M.P. Mussorgsky, N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, the classical ballet of Marius Petipa, the visiting card of Russian ballet, was born here.
Today the Mariinsky Theater is a technically perfect theatrical complex that includes seven stages in St. Petersburg: the Historical Scene, the New Stage and four chamber halls (Prokofiev Hall, the Stravinsky Hall, the Shchedrin Hall and Mussorgsky Hall), the acoustically perfect Concert Hall, and the Primorsk Stage Mariinsky Theater in Vladivostok.
Preserving traditions and a great heritage, the theater under the direction of Valery Gergiev strives for the future, creating innovative productions, working with the world's best directors, inviting leading musicians and opera and ballet artists, actively expanding the field of cultural and educational activities.

My favorite theater! Solemnity and grandeur, a wealth of scenery, velvet, gold, light ballet tutus and bright colors of costumes, exquisite desserts - The old stage preserves a regal atmosphere, it is nice to pick up binoculars and watch what is happening on the stage and in the orchestra pit. In Mariinsky 2, you can safely put on your most beautiful outfit and take chopped strawberries and a glass of champagne during intermission - this is the place for a real holiday. At the same time, many foreign guests and business meetings. It is better to book a table in a cafe for the company in advance. What to go for the first time? For a chic ballet, probably! Swan Lake for me is a kind of meditation, this ballet must be seen at the Mariinsky Theater at least once in my life. Further - Corsair, Bakhchisarai fountain, Nutcracker, Tosca, etc.

The theater of glory years has long since gone, the atmosphere and decor remain. I was at the ballet "Swan Lake" - I recommend to everyone, great art and live music. I recommend choosing tickets for 1000 R in the first row at the top. Perfect view and great price.

The oldest theater in the country, one of the world's most legendary theaters. A few years ago, the construction of the second stage in the building next to the old one was completed.

Saw the Nutcracker, a Christmas classic. Not going to surprise anyone with yet another review pointing out the poor sight lines of this theatre. The theatre is lovely but only being able to see a third of the stage due to the layout after paying top prices seems a shame. Bar service is super quick during intervals, very efficient.

Mariinsky theater is the best place to have visited in St Petersburg. It was built almost two centuries ago and it's built in extraordinary way. Significant architect Talent was used to build that enormous theater. I want to taken back decades to the time of Kaiser's era with the music was played that night
It's is one of the best theaters I have ever been in my life.
I would definitely recommend it to everyone I know if he is visiting Saint Petersburg and I will definitely go to it over and over again every time I visit St Petersburg.

Great historical theatre of Saint Petersburg. The interior of the main hall is very impressive, and is interesting by itself, with the Czar's balcony and architecture.

Note that when buying a cheaper ticket the seat you'll have will probably be on the third floor, where the seating is simply a long wooden bench, with a back rest. Not that comfortable, especially when you are supposed to sit there for 2 hours, and disappointing when even the cheapest ticket is not that cheap. When sitting in the back rows of the third floor your field of view of the stage will be limited as well, and most likely people around you will not follow a common sense theatre etiquette - some will talk, some in front of you will take pictures using their phone, essentially blocking your already limited field of view and distracting you. Some people even took pictures using their flash, which was way beyond reasonable by any means.
TL;DR: Avoid third floor at all costs, no discount will justify such ruined theater experience.

The best places for mezzanine next to box D and the box itself.
But everything is also clearly visible from almost all places, except maybe on the third tier from the second row - there people mostly looked while standing.

We recently returned to St. Petersburg and made it a priority to revisit the Mariinskiy Theatre for another ballet performance. On this occasion we watched a performance of Don Quixote and loved every minute of it.

Tickets were reserved directly on the Mariinskiy Theatre, which is a nice resource these days. Ticket confirmations were received shortly after being purchased. You simply print out your tickets which are barcoded and bring them with you for entrance into the theatre.

The building was erected in 1860 by Albert Kavos, the Russian Italian architect who also designed the Bolshoy Theatre in Moscow. The Neo-Renaissance facade was added near the end of the 19th century. The exterior and interior is attractive and impressive, yet what you remember most are the actual performances themselves.

Can't imagine what could have been done to improve the Don Quixote performance. The performers were immaculate, so very impressive in their ability to dance with grace, precision and beauty. The performance was excellent from start to finish, providing nearly 3 hours of real and true enjoyment.

In the end, we left very pleased that we were able to return to the Mariinskiy and have little reason to not seek yet another return when we are next in St. Petersburg.
