The only disadvantage of shopping here is having to navigate your way through the sea of people on State street in order to get there. Absent that complaint, I found shopping at this particular store quite pleasant. Macy's is one of those stores where I refuse to buy anything at full price and you have to scour the racks for the good deals (which are usually in abundance). Add on any coupons you may have (and there are plenty of them out there) and it is impossible to walk out of there with something that provides a good bang for the buck.

The pedway to Macy's is getting more like lower Wacker Drive. Beggars, homeless people and the smell of feces fill the pedway making it more and more dreadful and intimidating to pass thru. I don't understand why Macy's doesn't provide a guard that can clear them out of there as needed.

Half the escalators don t work and were full of gum and trash. Honestly one of the dirtiest Macy s I ve been in. 3rd floor smelled like urine. Women s dressing room on 5th floor smelled like body odor. I ll never come back to this location again.

EllaMarie your employee who goes by the name Mimi went above and beyond and deserves a promotion and to be employee of the month. She works at the store in Chicago on state street. Every year my family and I eat at the walnut room that is inside your restaurant and then we do our Christmas shopping after. I even drove from Springfield Missouri which is 9 hours away this year to continue this tradition with my family who lives there. This year around 5pm on thanksgiving day my aunt lost her purse in your store. After being blown off by several employees a lady in cosmetics directed me to Mimi. Mimi offered to take me to lost and found. When the purse was not there she took me to several other places helping to retrace my steps. She asked important questions as to what was in the purse and also what it looked like. She helped fill other employees in. After about 20 minutes she could tell I was about to cry. She tried to distract me as we waited on the elevator and gave me history about the building and asked about our yearly traditions with the store. I explained we have come ever year but this summer my mom passed away and it was our first year without her. It was just me, my sister, and aunt this year. I explained my aunt was already stressed under these circumstances and she was also in a wheelchair. Mimi helped keep me calm and said with it being the holidays people usually turn items in and that we would not give up. As we retraced our last steps we found my sister who was about to get on the elevator as we were getting off and she had found the purse. I gave your employee a hug. She new I needed a friend that day. She is a very special person and deserves recognition. If we had never found the purse...we would not have spent money in your store. I met several grumpy employees that day who didn't seem to care at all and seemed bothered to be working but Mimi was caring, kind, helpful, positive, and genuine from the beginning. She is your star out of hundreds of employees. She helped save our yearly traditions and made this one particularly hard thanksgiving easier.

This store has been in decline ever since Macy's took over Marshall Fields. When I was there, most of the bathroom stalls were broken. The changing rooms were no better. The men's section was a mess, with clotting all over the place. Everything seemed to be on sale, but it was unclear what discounts applied to which items. The whole place needs a thorough clean and repair and Macy's needs to return some dignity to this classic location.

I would love to give .Macy's 4-Stars but the ship-to-store option when picking up at the Chicago Stats Street Store is chaotic at best! Macy's has a couple of terminals that resemble an ATM Machine in a highly visible "Customer Service " Section on the main floor at the Lake Street entrance. The concept is great! There are no shipping charge when you purchase online and pick up your purchase at the store. Great move. The customer avoids shipping costs and likely buys more unless they left the shipping area in disgust like me! I got in line then noticed the self-service terminals after waiting several minutes in a line that was not moving despite 4 people being behind the counter. The convenience factor went south fast once I discovered that the self-service kiosk didn't allow me to locate my order. I had to get back into the line I got out of in the first place. Then wait for my package to be brought out from some holding space. All and all this could have been a much smoother process if the self service terminals worked and maybe a set-up more like Amazon could be used to load my package into a slot instead of the hands of a slow-walking disinterested employee who didn't apologize for the wait nor when I shared the terminal wasn't an option and it was my second time in line. This would have earned a 4th star if working like a well-oiled machine. The 5th star will probably never be earned from any Macy's shopper in my age group who was a former Marshal Fields and Company shopper. They offered the BEST customer service only to be rivaled by high-end stores like Nordstrom, Sakz Firth Avenue and Neiman's. Goodluck Macy's!

I am a volunteer for Make a Wish and the child requested to shop at this Macy's. The store went above and beyond to make the experience of this child fantastic, we were greeted by the staff before the store opened, we were guided to different departments. The employees were very friendly, we had lunch inside Macy's and they also gave a good service. The store itself is nice and big, plenty of floors to choose from. Will come back to keep shopping, they left a good impression with me.

Terrible service in the man's suit department. When I arrived there wasn't anyone available to help. Therefore, I started to look for suit on my own. Since I had an idea on the color that I wanted I started to pull many off the shells. I was trying them on when Ann came by and she gave me a stink stare and asked what I was doing with all those suits. Since I really need the suit, I swallowed my pain and the mean words that I was about to spit at her. And I stated I was trying on suits. And she said why so many.... long story shot. It doesn't matter how many I try on. I BELIEVE that If I wanted to try them all I have the right to do so. Didn't like the way I was treated and like I said since I need the suit I had to buy it. Otherwise I would of walked out!

Maryann was the only one in the bed/bath linens area tonight (apparently 1 at dinner 2 others not in today). She was wonderful!! My daughter is in the hospital. I flew in to just before arriving at Macy's with all my luggage. Maryann helped me find Ca King linens so my daughter would come home to a nice new clean bed. Great work Maryann! Thank you Macys

Stopped in to look around and needed to use the washroom prior to shopping. Upon making it there the smell coming out was absolute putrid. Not to mention the despicable condition of the washroom, including but limited to bodily excretions on the floor, used feminine products. It turned our stomachs immediately and we decided to leave without shopping based on that alone.

The Good: great cusromer service here. The staff was very friendly and we're always available to help. Check out went smoothly with gift wrapping and boxes available.

Walnut Room: such a cute spot! Great service and fun atmosphere with the giant tree in the middle! The food was really good. Do wish they had more vegetarian options.

The Bad: the restrooms. Like all of them. We were here for hours (shopping and eating) so I actually saw 3 different bathrooms and all of them were disgusting, particularly the basement one by the food court. Smelled like sewage, hast been updated in forever, clearly wasn't kept up over the day including stocking and mopping. Ick.

Not only did they change the name, they changed and forever killed the Spirit of Christmas that Marshall Fields had there for decads. We went last night to see the Holiday Windows. What a total waste of time. The Windows, only a few, were nothing more than a marketing PR deal for Macy's. They were not even well done or fun to look at. If you like us must invest hours of travel time and pay the highest parking fee's in the midwest to see the Window please save your time and money and go for a drive around your city and see the lights it will be much better than going to Macy's.

Thanks

Some products are hard to find in other stores, this will not relate to online stores. Most products are great with both trend following, and quality. The only concern is the amount of products for mens. [There is ONLY 1 floor for men's clothing]

We were disappointed to learn that the Build-A-Bear workshop at the State Street Macy's had closed. The Holiday store area was less spectacular than last year. The main elevators are not in service. Everywhere you turned you could feel the retail crunch casting it's shadow. Macy's just felt like an empire in decline.

I love the customer service in the online pick up department and then I went to the Mac counter and met a wonderful young lady who helped me to transition from fashion fair products to mac. I had very bad experience at the river oaks location, they are under staff and at the mac counter they told me I had to spend 60.00 before trying any products on my face.

I really enjoy visiting the Macy's State Street store location. The windows are decorated beautifully while in a more modern manner. The service people were very helpful and cheerful even though the store was very crowded we enjoyed ourselves immensely. They gave out free hot chocolate on the 7th floor by the Seven on Heaven Food Court at a salad and a gourmet hamburger. Both food items were prepared correctly and the price was reasonable. I highly recommend Macy's State Street store to anyone. The water tower store is also very nice.

Tried new curbside delivery. Not actually curbside had to go inside but easy pickup. I was also able to return item bought online and shipped free to home. Lots of in store sales. Everybody wearing masks and gloves. I will use it again. First purchase in store.
