This insurance have hired a person that is making lot of frauds every where giving bad checks from a closed account trying to buy English bulldogs puppies he bought a puppy from me and he gives 2 bad checks from a closed account I have found he has been doing that 2 other people giving bad checks from Wells Fargo closed account his name is merwin bachiller maligaya care full every body with this guy

Terrible. Worse than Kaiser for people with chronic, life-threatening conditions. One Size Fits All managed care strikes again! Endless runarounds, delays, Providers and staff that dismiss and ignore patients healthcare concerns. Access to UC Davis was the primary reason I left Kaiser after over 20 years to join WHA. Since WHA separated from UC Davis, WHA s HMO patients quality of care plummeted. If you really *need* appropriate care, consider moving out of California...maybe, out of the US, completely. Consider moving somewhere with truly patient centered healthcare...somewhere sane, like Canada.

Patient with WHA for 3 years based purely on employer options. I'm filing a formal complaint with the state. That being said: if you have lots of prescriptions and/or doc visits, etc., watch your copays closely. Every year I fight with them, and every year they keep some of my money.

Currently waiting on a $440 check, even though overage of $720 hospital-direct documentation was provided to them for 2018. Headaches ahead for me. :-/

I'm not sure why the negative reviews - This is the best HMO that my family has ever had, and we have had a few over the years. Great customer service and doctors who spend time with their patients. Getting specialist referrals has been fast and simple.

This health insurance has been a complete nightmare and we can not wait till open enrollment is back.
Western Health does not give you a lot of choices for providers, the most ridiculous thing was when we knew we needed to go to a specialist they wanted us to go back to our primary care DR to get the referral. Which meant paying 2x's. I had to go to our Dr pay $45 so they could then tell me to go to the specialist. Not very efficient or cost effective.

I was hoping the Affordable Care Act was going to make health insurance for the better. Well it doesn't go that way when you allow the Pharmaceutical and the Insurance industries to write the legislation.

This insurance company is very bad, they did not pay the bill to the medical provider as of their "Benefits and Coverage" outlined.
Do not use this health insurance company, they are really bad company.

Worst doctors. I was lucky to get a great PCP, but the list they give you is horrible doctors with awful reviews. I had to go out of network a few times for different doctors because of this issue.

Anytime we need a specialist it is an absolute nightmare dealing with WHA. Going back and forth between calling Primary Dr office, WHA customer service rep, and specialist to get accurate info!!! Everyone says something different. And WHA gives us the wrong info every single time!!! They told us to go on their website to find a specialist, which we did multiple times, and not one was listed in the state of California!!! So I would ask, Who CAN we go to??
WHA told us we could go outside network to UCDavis, but no we could not!! Had to drive from Sacramento to San Francisco to see a pediatric surgeon, who STILL wasn t listed on their website! We talked to multiple WHA reps in a two month period and no one had accurate info. Meanwhile our two-year-old needed surgery. Incredibly frustrating!!!

You sit around suffering for weeks to months while constantly on the phone jumping through hoops of fire just to get a prescription that your DOCTOR says is medically necessary. But, first you have to try every medication on the market (that doesn't work) just to suffer longer at their expense. Because they're doctors AND insurance agents so they know what's best (YEAH RIGHT!!!). Then they cover the original script in the end. They love to see you suffer as long as possible. I highly suggest having an attorney within reach........you'll need them!

Update: "When you can't get anything done right the first (or fifteenth) time.......do it yourself."
So, I resorted to Google for my problem. WOW! I not only found pharmacies carrying the script I needed (both foreign and domestic) but, they were MUCH cheaper than even the copay, one even has online doctors with a free visit and, I even found another script that I couldn't get before!
They say you can't trust big business and there's none other like the healthcare industry.

A year later, (original date of service Oct. 2016) thy finally told me I was responsible for $1600 + bill. What, not enough that I paid about $2500 + for 2016? I will NOT renew my coverage in 2018, not worth the hassle.

I'm upset that I have to give 1 star. I have had this insurance for 2 months and I haven't been able to get a appointment with any doctors. Customer service is a joke!!! Pay a few extra dollars and get quality insurance. This is worst then Medi-cal. My employer pays money every month and I can't see a doctor????

Terrible coverage! Need to see a specialist that I have seen for years, a doctor that is definitely within the network. Primary won't refer me because it will cost them money. Tried apealing through the case manager, can't get them to even return my call. I guess I will just have to pay out of pocket.....

I called twice and spoke with two different representatives to discuss what my plans' coverage was for a medical procedure. Both times I was told everything would be covered, no out of pocket expenses. WHA got the bill and now says, "It's not covered." They admitted I was misinformed, but are still trying to make me pay. If you can't rely on the insurance company for accurate information about their own services, you may want to rethink giving them your money.

I am so upset to be writing this review. WHA had been good insurance for me until the recent break from working with UC Davis, and in that transition WHA completely screwed me. When I initially got the letter saying we had to change our PCP, I called WHA panicked because I gave 4 specialists with UCD who I have been working with since my initial cancer diagnosis. They assured me that this change would not effect my specialists; only my PCP. Fast forward to mid November and I get a letter from WHA saying if I have any specialists, I can file for Continuity of Care. I call panicked again, and they tell me that yes my specialists will also be effective (opposite of what they initially told me) and email me a Continuity of Care form and assure me I ll hear back before January 1st as I wanted to change my insurance plan if I got denied so I could stay with my trusted medical team. I called twice a week checking on the status of my request until I went on vacation at the end of December. When I returned after the 1st of January, I STILL hadn t heard back from WHA so I called and they told me my Continuity of Care request has been denied but could not give me a reason. I am beside myself. They do NOT care about their members. It is now too late to switch my insurance to one that allows me to keep my medical team. They gave me false information which prevented me from dealing with the issue in time. I will be appealing the denial of Continuity of Care and am considering talking an attorney due to the false information I was given and not receiving an answer until it was too late to do anything about it. Absolutely awful.

This is possibly the WORST coverage I have ever received. First, getting hold of someone in customer service is near impossible and once you do speak with them they typically can not support you. I tried to cancel my service with them and 6 months later received a letter from a collection agency stating that I never paid them. When I called WHA to resolve the issue, they stated that I needed to send them written notice that I would no longer like service with them, something that was never told to me when I tried to cancel.

The company covered hardly anything when I did use them and I was left spending a small fortune. If it was possible to not give this company any stars I would do that. Watch out for this horrid company!!!

Terrible service. They require I receive preauthorization for my medication. Every single month my doctor has to fill out paperwork. As a result I routinely miss doses every month. It may be bad for my health but it saves them money. And that is what matters most to them.

This is the worst insurance I have ever had. I can never see my actual doctor. No labs take this insurance in my area, so I have to travel out of the county to get work done. I seem to come out of pocket more than being covered. Such a joke and a waste of money in my opinion. I cant wait to get my new insurance company in Jan 2019! I will be paying $50 a month less for better coverage.

Pretty much a bigger waste of money than I could ever imagine. Just know that if you go with them, you have few options as a patient, doctors are not obligated to see you in their terms and service, pre-authorization denials DO NOT need to be communicated to you, and they can stick you with phantom bills from services completed months ago that were already resolved. This is a business and they're existence is solely to bump up premiums to take their cut and run. They also consolidate most of their services in the Sac area in El Dorado and Placer counties, so they're great if you live in the foothills, but try and access anything like a doctor appt. in the next year, specialists, etc. you're going to have to take a full day off work, drive to EL DO Hills or Rocklin for most of what WHA covers you for.

Western Health Advantage has held up my cancer car...

Western Health Advantage has held up my cancer care twice. They refused to approve standard-of-care cancer meds, an action that put me at risk. Predictably additional health problems arose. All completely avoidable. I dont understand why they won't let the physicians do their job. I've now taken the issue to the State of California for independent review.
If WHA resolves the issue an update will be posted.

Zero star! I have a PRIMARY CARE doctor on my insurance card but I have not seen her at all. Trying to get an appointment since June 2017 and still nothing. The people you talk to on the phone are not very helpful. They can't answer a single question nor they can help you find a doctor (North Highland branch). You're better off not having an insurance! :(
