I been coming here shopping for a long time and on top of it I used to work here and I had a fabulous time too. And I stay like shopping here. Even if I just come to window shop it's still a great experience. You get ppl all over the world that come to Macy's.

I held out on going here for a long time after the way Macy's treated Marshall Field's . Its so gorgeous inside though and convenient. I'm not a big fan of Macy's in general but service in the beauty area is top notch.

We've been coming to Macy's (Marshall Field's) every year for at least the past 30 years. We've noticed a decline in the experience over the past few years. The changes to Santaland - the requirement to wait in line for hours rather than get a pager, the drastic decline in food and service quality in the Walnut Room, elimination of the tree viewing area on the 8th floor, and the general atmosphere have caused us to officially decide to abandon this 30 year tradition. You messed up, Macy's. Now my kids won't grow up to know the holiday magic that Marshall Field's always offered.

Great

If you are a 40 year plus Chicagoan, you know that this former Marshall Fields location is a pleasure to visit. I was there with a companion for lunch in the Walnut Room on the 7th floor. Though a little pricey for a six-bite hamburger, the taste lived up to the Marshall Fields reputation. The french fries were perfectly seasoned and the service without fault. Most of the patrons were 55+ which makes me think that the Walnut Room is a hidden gem in downtown Chicago.

The Men's suit department is a joke. Went in on a Tuesday and was very under-staffed. I picked out a suit and after waiting 30 minutes for someone to help with alterations I decided to purchase and come back later. Came back Wednesday for alterations; the sales associates weren't as busy but would barely give me the time of day because they knew they'd make no commission on an alteration.

The historic building which used to be Marshall Fields has an enormous Tiffany ceiling. The whole building is amazing! There used to be floors full of 100k furniture, oriental rugs, furs, and evening gowns. Unfortunately now Macy's has turned it into bargain racks. There are still a few rugs and furs but nothing like I remember.

It s not only a nice & big shopping place, where you can find almost everything, but the building itself is very beautiful and old. Love their Walnut Room restaurant, must to go around Christmas or Easter time!

I had an online order for in store pick up which is supposed to save to save time. Well don t try it here. Because it was a bracelet I was sent to pick it up in the jewelry department. Construction aside, there was hardly anyone was working in the jewelry department and I was bounced to three different areas to pick up my merchandise. I tried being as polite as possible, I get it, I used to work retail. But after you help 3 people that showed up after me when I ve been waiting and proceed to really me you can t help me I get beyond irritated. Can t speak for shopping in store but definitely do not try in store pick up to try to save time.

Great staff. Great stuff. Very helpful people always. Sales are also awesome. I would love visiting again. Have not been to this Macy's in many years so had forgotten how wonderful shopping experience this was. Feet and legs are killing me but will go back soon.

Damien H. In cosmetics is amazing! He helped me do a makeover for a special event and many shoppers and staff alike stopped to watch his artistic handiwork - he was a whiz with brushes and color choices! I m very new to makeup and he was patient and taught me how to do techniques for myself. He found the perfect shade/brand of foundation for my skin tone which I ve been searching for years. I can honestly say I ve never met someone so talented in this arena - he s an asset for sure! Visit for great advice - you won t be disappointed!

I stood in the watch section with the desire of buying 5 Michael Kors watches for gifts and two or three Fossil Watches also for gifts. I waited 30 minutes for someone to come and help me. There was one particular sales lady who kept walking past me without asking me if I need any help without even saying hello. She was not helping anyone and she also worked in the watch section. Even when I said something she kept walking like I wasn't even speaking to her. It's Behavior like this that makes me understand why online retailers are becoming the norm nobody wants to be treated that way. And when I was walking out the store she actually made fun of me with one of her co-workers and it was beyond embarrassing and insulted and when I asked to speak to a manager she told me she was a manager I didn't believe her but because I didn't want to fight anymore I just left this was the Macy's on State Street in Chicago. If you need to buy something from Macy's and Chicago I know that that was only a small portion of the team but I would recommend just not buying from them at all go online and shop at Macy's.

This store is huge. It has 7 floors. For bargain prices look for red signs of "Last Act", also they have good discounts during holidays. On the -1 level they have locally made delicious chocolate with mint Frango, which is a must buy from Chicago
