What an amazing old building.

What an amazing old building.

We visit here during the Christmas season. Amazing Christmas Tree in the Walnut Room.

If you go to the furniture floor you can see a lot of the old building, very cool...

I look forward to visit every year.

Derrick in Men's Suits on the 2nd floor was AMAZING! He was not only knowledgeable but such a joy to shop with! We were visiting Chicago and in need of formal wear at the last minute. Ask for him and I will personally guarantee you will leave with the best shopping experience you've likely ever had. Tell him the CARSTAR folks sent you!

Terrible experience. Bad enough to lose my Christmas spirit. Check out lines long, clerk taking too long to wrap items in tissue paper and get purchases into a cloth bag because the patron did not want to pay 7cents for the plastic bag. Dresses from a clearance rack then rang up full price. Shoe department was the WORST. Poorly marked sale items. Shoes and trash scattered all over the shoe department. Had a clerk scan the shoes I wanted to try on. She was gone for 20+ minutes. Tried to go to the register for help, after 8 minutes in this line, I was told they were ordering shoes from another location for the woman in front of me. If this is the service Macy's provides to their customers, I'm going back to Target.

After Marshall Field's departed, I was heartbroken. I thought Macy's was evil. Until one day I stopped in for a pair of shoes, and then I found it was not too bad, not bad at all. The more I shopped there, the more I got to like the store, the selection, prices, sales, and variety. As good as all this stuff is, the best experiences are with the sales people on the floor. Time and again, I have received the highest levels of service from the sales staff - Karen in Jones New York and all the wonderful ladies there who know me by first name, ask me about my child, and know exactly what I need for a job interview. Impeccable taste, incredible service... I could not think of another place I'd rather shop than here.

Macy's is always a great place to go for all sorts of wonderful items. Chicago's Macy was helpful and great service! If you need a nice pair of comfortable shows to walk the streets of Chicago, go to Macy's!

Thanks

This is the original flagship for Marshall Fields. As a kid I remember Christmas visits to see the themed window displays, lunch in the Walnut Room and Frango mints. If you ever watched the Jeremy Piven show "Selfridge" it is here where Mr. Selfridge learned the department store business he exported to London. Enjoy the history.

I'm new to Chicago and downtown reminded me of NY. It was very nostalgic. I went to Macy's to buy a coat and i received awesome customer service. They explained thoroughly how the coupons worked, they helped me find numerous coats. I was very satisfied.

We were here at 7pm on a weeknight. It was totally dead. Somehow, it seemed that 1) there were more employees than customers, and 2) there were no employees anywhere.

We spent nearly an hour shopping for women's swimwear the whole time, the only employee we interacted with was our cashier, who was very cold. All the nearby desks were totally empty. It was surreal.

Gorgeous building, depressing business.

Macy's State Street is in the old Marshall Field and Company Building that first opened in 1983. You can still enjoy eight floors of shopping, Frango mints, and the Walnut Room. The Marshall Field clock is still there...and it works!

Walnut Room was amazing to visit but the food... Parts of the salad were still frozen and the water chestnuts were mushy with no flavor. Salon had the Bisk soup. Had a great flavor and was great as long as you like it crunchy. Every spoon full had shells in it. We ate just a little bit of each item and then went to nando's to eat. Sadly the waiter didn't even ask how our meal was and gave us the wrong check twice. I would think almost all the food left on all the plates would have been a red flag.

Lunch at the Walnut Room was as always: very good! Added a beautiful lunch buffet and scaled down the old/usual menu. Service was very good.
In-store items were more difficult to locate as they changed all the floor plans.

Best Macy's in the U.S. Theres a bar in the lower level by the Pedway access, the Starbucks, the food hall, the Christmas tree, the chocolates, the Nuts on Clark.....I don't need to go on. This is your Macy's. This one.

This store has everything. No store in LA matches this Macy's. Checkout Holiday Lane on the 7th floor for Christmas fun, and the food court on the 7th floor. It offers a great view of State street.

Staff is rude... store is a mess (close to ROSS)... the good old days of Marshall Field is long gone... this store was beautiful and a head above the rest when it was run by Marshall Field.

I would give this Macy s five stars for the customer service and inventory.

However, I dropped it down to three because the building is in dire need of upgrades - for instance, only one elevator of the four available was working and one of the escalators was broken. It is such a gorgeous older building and it s a shame they aren t maintaining it well.

This store either needs more workers or they need to be clearly identified. Walking through this store during my lunch break, I was asked no less than six (6) times if I worked there. I was polite to my fellow patrons and said no, sorry I dont. The first few times it was funny then it became irritating that I couldn't even shop during my lunch without being disturbed by other patrons looking for assistance.

Has everything you could ever need in a Macy's, which is why it is 3 not 2 stars. We had to ask about 10 sales associates to get an answer to a question about where a department was inside the store. I also had a question and waited in line while the sales associate helped another customer. While helping the customer, she followed the customer where the question originated from. The sales associate came back over to me and said, "sorry my shift is over, there are other sales associates on that side of the store." and pointed in the other direction. I was mortified. I understand wanting to leave, but I waited in line for her. Overall an unacceptable trip.

When Macy's arrived in Chicago I was one of many who did not want to have the store here. As time went on & because it kept a Chicago tradition Frangos, it grew on me. It's a wonderful place to shop.
