Our stay here overall was good. We've been to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Dells a few time before and my daughter was excited to go to this new one.
They did a good job on the remodel of the hotel, everything looks new and well thought out. There are more things for the kids to do here as opposed to the the one in the Dells so that is nice. They have a mini bowling alley, mini golf, climbing wall and high rope course that are not at the Dells location in addition to the Magiquest, arcade and shops. One kind of disappointment was the Magiquest at this location is just kind of spread out thought the main area of the first two floors. The Dells location has it in its own separate building that is dedicated to that which makes it more fun for the kids to run around in rather then all over the hotel.
The rooms are nice, but I will say the beds are not very comfortable. I woke up with a lot of back pain thanks to the beds. Plus we had what they call a "queen" size bed, but it felt more like a slightly larger double bed. My wife actually went and slept in one of the bunk beds the second night se we both had some room. Other than that the rooms were ok.
The water park was nice and had some cool things going for it. Firstly the thing I loved the most was the two large water slides had a lift system that brought the rafts up to the top for you. In the Dells you have to carry a large 4 person raft up a lot of stairs and it's exhausting. They also have two smaller two person raft slides that you can go single or double, two "regular" water slides and then a single or double tube slide that goes into what my daughter called the toilet bowl and dumps into the lazy river. Speaking of the lazy river it has something I've never seen before, there is a section that will turn into a wave area every so often. It added something different to a usually boring lazy river. The lazy river and the dump area for the slides is all 3'6" deep so its a nice depth for the kids. In the middle of the lazy river is the kids play area that has three slides and one little kid slide (my 14 month old loved it) in addition to the giant bucket the dropped and all the different water features. They also have a splash pad in the front of the water park for little ones and two small water slides that dump out into a 1.5' pool. In the back they have a wave pool that goes from 0 to 5 feet and lets you know the waves are going to start with a howl.
One other nice thing is that right down the street from the GWL is Gurnee Mills Mall so there are places to eat (that don't cost as much as the hotel) and shopping close by.
We'd definitely go back again but this time I'd bring my cot to sleep on to avoid my back hurting but the kids had a great time in the water park and just hanging out at the hotel.
