Our first time visiting Muskoka and decided to sta...
Our first time visiting Muskoka and decided to stay at the jw marriot. Check in process was pretty simple since the check in process was completed In your car.
The grounds are beautiful, pool was great. Beaches were stunning and constantly maintained. The biggest downfall is the restaurants. We made reservations at the steak house and when we called to confirm they did not have Our reservation on file.
They decided to seat us at the dock restaurant in a separate room where there was no air circulation. They gave us the option of both menus. We decided to order from the steak house menu as that s where we originally reserved. We were there with our 4 kids and their meals came out cold. Our meals took 2.5 hours. I understand the situation of lack of staff especially during unprecedented times. However the management is very poor in all areas. From the front desk to housekeeping and also the restaurants. At the restaurant We ordered drinks a few times. The waiter came back and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. We just places our order with him. He seemed frazzled; possibly first day on the job with little training. The manager never came around to ease the situation or simply to ask us for drinks to or even complimentary salad or whatever just to hold us tight while we kept waiting for our meals. They did however agree to cover some apps as they came out cold. And our bottle of wine. We still paid $500 for below mediocre food.
There is no housekeeping during your stay. Which I thought was ridiculous. I understand the concept of not actually being in the room for housekeeping. However for a hotel where you re paying over $600 a night plus additional fees this is simply unacceptable. They need to figure this one out. We stayed for 5 days and by day 2-3 with children our room needed some cleaning. We decided to contact front desk and ask them to simply vacuum our bedroom. They assured me they would send someone up to maintain the situation and that no one was to be in the bedroom. We came back from dinner 3-4 hours later to find our room again untouched.
So again lack of staff and poor management.
If you decided to chose this hotel you need to understand that there is no house keeping aside from providing towels and garbage bags outside of your room. If you want to dispose of trash you must place your trash outside of your door. Where that becomes an awful situation since you have trash and towels. lined up from each room In the hallway.
The restaurants on the property are just ok. The only place that may be worth trying is the pizza near the pool. So I would recommend driving 15 minutes to the next town for all meals.
Another issue we came across is the constant calls we had to make for towels. Water. Ice etc..
Well be visiting the Muskokas again but more than likely renting a cottage.

There's really nothing bad to say about this resort. Beautiful location on Lake Rosseau with great views, and you're about 10 minutes to Port Carling and 45 to Bracebridge. While the cottage aesthetic in the rooms isn't my thing, the resort generally very tastefully decorated. Service has always been excellent and resort staff manage to demonstrate grace in the face of some truly self-entitled clientele.

I have stayed in hundreds of mostly 4 and 5 star hotels in Canada, US and Asia. The service at this hotel exceeded every experience I ve ever had. The food and service at the restaurants is what you would expect at an exclusive highly reviewed spot. All the staff are friendly and always went above and beyond. I was here for a weekend and I can t wait to return. Thank you for a great weekend!

Really nice place. Rooms were nice mattress was quite uncomfortable sadly. Restaurants were great...very pricey but to be expected. Overall a great time, reason I didn't give 5 stars is for the surprise 88$ charge at checkout ($39+tax) a night. Its apparently a "resort fee". Should have been mentioned prior to booking.

Great place, people are awesome. But, to put on a resort fee in the middle of the winter and a 2.9% area tax is a little aggressive since there is pretty much nothing to do but use the pool. I can see this in the summer when you have programs for the kids, but not in the winter. Still a great place.

We came during the off season during the week so we were lucky to have alot of the incredible immenties to ourselves. The rooms are stunning. We had a king bed studio suite with kitchenette. Our view was not waterfront but it was still breathtakong--over looking some hills and forest. The restaurants were accomadating of us being vegan and the food was delicious. One of my favoutite features were the STAFF! Everyone was so friendly and generous.
The spa was lovely. Again, the staff there were great! We all had massages with the RMT which was relaxing but not a massage you would want if you are seriously sore and stiff and need to be repaired. The saunas and jacuzzi pool are accessible with a purchase of a spa treatment and you can come and go as you please throughout the day. Since the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi pool are in gendered locker rooms you miss spending that time with the people you came with.
We loved the indoor pool that you can swim outside to. The gym was stellar and had a great variety of equipment. Honestly, we felt very pampered and spoiled. We highly recommend this place.

Not convenient. Beach is far from the hotel. Hard to keep family together when area of hotel spans vertically and horizontally. Lots of stairs to go down to the beach.
Beach is very small.
Great view form room for too much money. Almost not worth it.

Just returned from our sixth visit to JW Marriot, and we were pretty disappointed. We used to say "when are we coming back" and now its "if we do." Still lots of fun activities for the kids which is nice and a gorgeous location but it was all of the little things that added up to the poor experience. The service has gotten a lot worse. I think they may be training? Much less friendly. Much less attentive. You don't even know who is serving you half the time, and no one comes to check on you. The food is very expensive (Think higher end Toronto restaurant) and really poor. Both meals I had were very overcooked, parts were still cold like they had been mis-microwaved. There is no other restaurants nearby so you need to eat on site or bring your own food. The menu isn't broad enough to enjoy that. We brought food to stock the fridge (mostly kids food and some snacks and salads) and the first night our fridge froze everything rock solid. We lost everything. Although they apologised, staff didn't offer to credit us some kids meals which would have been what I would expect from the Marriot. The pool (which had always been our favourite part) was so over chemicaled that my husband and child had a reaction. The washroom serving the pool was dirty and the soaps empty. On top of this the price has increased since the renos. So overall, we won't be rushing back which is a huge shame, it has been our yearly winter escape for a long time.

Went here for our anniversary and had a very nice time. There is lots to do no matter what the season is and the staff is very friendly, however during busy times of the day they seem understaffed.

I've only come during the off season. The grounds have yet to be fully open so the dirty windows and debris on the grounds are understandable. The rooms have always been clean. The grounds and views are beautiful. We come to this place every year after tax to rest.

It was a nice place. My only comment is that heater close to the pool area I don't know how the heater is attached to the cord but definitely it is very dangerous seeing a heater there with the extension cord. When we went there it was accidentally pulled by one of the swimmer luckily my husband was able to pushed it back, for safety reason I think it should be put in a safe place since electricity is flowing from the cord. Nice place but they need proper safety for the guests.
Really wish there was a ZERO star to give!!!
Really wish there was a ZERO star to give!!!
The worst experience ever. Hotel, Service (or lack thereof), room, STAFF!!! WOW. I have been traveling on business mostly to US for the past two years and I stay at Marriott in Michigan. Amazing hotel, even better customer service, clean, comfy bed, chef that should be awarded Michelin Stars. Based on that, and since three was limited availability due to COVID, I booked two nights at this god forsaken place.
The Room: first night we realized the carpet was damp below the balcony door, we thought it may be due to rain, second day the water had reached the TV!!! The second night, we slept in a stench of damp carpet and probably mold!!!
The Food: do yourselves a favor, Eat out!!! $160 dinner for two, ravioli with store bought Ragu sauce and at the end, I found Penne, probably leftover from another plate, in my plate.
Restaurant Service: if you are lucky and are a member of one of the local families, and these young millennials know you, then you get all of their attention and service, otherwise: you have to ask for something for three times, then you get it with an attitude!!!
Overall Value: no such thing exists!!! $650 per night, not even worth $65
Despite all of the above, my partner and I tolerated these so we can enjoy our 3-day vacation. The last night we asked for a late checkout, which since I am a Bonvoy Gold Elite member, I am entitled to, and this is when they truly showed what they are made of. Complete refusal, and the second moron I asked pretended to talk to the manager, called me in the room and pretended to be the manager and refused us again!!! Problem with such inexperienced hatchlings, is that they think they know it all and people who dress casual on their vacations, are simple morons and can be condescended and ridiculed!!!
Well, what I have started with Bonvoy will get to the bottom of this, but to save others form the same pain, if you are not local and don t have a family member, don t waste your money, a
simple motel will give you a better experience and more value.

Great location and nice rooms. Service is mediocre at best. Don't expect any level of service that you would other similarly priced locations. No porters to help with luggage. Service staff running around but not actually doing what was asked. Lots of seasonal/student staff with no initiative to go the extra mile for a guest. Food and drink was also disappointing for what was charged.

Amazing service and staff! Such a nice place that s super relaxing but also great for family and friends.
Amanda, Sherman from the front desk and Allan and Naveen from the restaurant were all so amazing and helpful.
The only minor issues were: 1. the room had a stuffy smell when we walked in so we had to open the windows and air it out and 2. the pool had some sand in it (but I m guessing this is from people just using it after a swim in the lake without showering).
Will definitely be back.

Unfortunately it is with a bitter heart I have to write a review this negative. I would like to start of by saying the Marriott at muskoka is a hotel that my family loves, but unfortunately tonight because of the poor customer phone skills of the front desk (male older gentlemen) and also reservations I have to say that o was very disappointed. If management does read this, please review your team and possibly some more customer service training is required. Although the hotel is beautiful, it is its staff at the end off the day that make a hotel what it is.
Sincerely,
Spi

My husband and I recently stayed at the JW Marriott in Rosseau to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We have stayed here before and we liked it so much that we came back to celebrate. The staff as always were very pleasant and helpful, our room was very clean and the grounds with the fall colour spectacular. We ate at Teca for dinner one night and they acknowledged our anniversary by providing us with an extra appetizer with our meal. I took part in the Sunday morning yoga class and the teacher gave a great class. The resort met all of our needs to enjoy this getaway weekend.

Went away for a weekend getaway. Had fun walking around the grounds in the snow. The check-in seems a little late, not being able to occupy our room until 4PM but when we finally got in, the rooms were immaculate. Very spacious, boasting a lounge with gas fireplace, balcony (locked in the winter), kitchen with dishwasher, and all the plates & cutlery for family meals. Massive washroom, nice soaker tub, seperate toilet and shower rooms, double sink. A combination of modern and nature, the decor reflects the pink and grey granite rocks of area. Nice touch. Cozy bedroom has a second big flat screen and access to the washroom from the other side. Total black-out blinds, this bedroom was super quiet. We spent some time swimming in the indoor/outdoor heated pool and hot tub. Had a pint & game of pool while waiting for our reservation. Fabulous prime rib & filet dinners at the Muskoka Chophouse. Loved the presentation and atmosphere. Ended with a creme brulee that was to die for. Then sat outside around a wood fire and let our food digest, watching the stars and twinkling lights in the trees. Overall, great experience.

Getting to the resort at night was a bit tricky if you're not used to driving on a gravel road without any lights and signs and having trees towering over you on both sides. I would definitely suggest arriving before sundown. Luckily the hotel was having fireworks and we were able to verify that we were indeed headed in the right direction! The room was quite spacious with the rear glass facing the forest which offered a fair bit of privacy. The resort offered a number of activities from paddle boating to jet skiing, and zip lining to water yoga. The diversity of what they offered meant that pretty much anything you could imagine would be available there. The water was absolutely beautiful and bustling with people all looking to enjoy their weekend.
Sadly we weren't able to do the zip lining because the employee whom we asked about it didn't really know much about it and wasn't able to help us out. This wasn't a big deal, but it's odd considering this is at a resort and you'd expect most people to be fairly knowledgable about all the happenings, but not a big deal as the rest of the time there was fantastic.
Overall I would definitely suggest this place as a fantastic getaway from the city for a relaxing weekend!
