They turned off power to everyone's house so a neighbor could trim trees WITH NO NOTICE I cannot wash ot cook supper OR do a breathing treatment. Wrong. Bad customer service.

Can we please just put the utilities under public ownership again?
Fast and convenient
Wish they mailed out bill sooner
They had me paying $200 a month for my damn barely used APARTMENT and every time I tried to call in to get an explanation for why the bill was so high or ask someone to check my meter, they were condescending and rude. They just swindled me out of $500 my last month with them (despite telling me I d get some of my deposit back) and are still sending me a bill for $40 more. Honestly, good riddance. Bad customer service, worse energy service. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would.
In this area, we don't really have a choice...... we only have one power provider. However, I can't complain! The staff are caring, sweet, and do all that they can to assist you.
Second attempt at "TRYING" to get someone to move. Slow - motion on my end I know.
Linda S. Trout, you need to repirt to Brighthouse or whatever so we can sign a deal.
They use some shady tactics and nefarious techniques to squeeze more money when they have the opportunity.
Oh, and they are perfectly willing to dig up your past phone conversations you had with them and then play the back to you over the phone just to be condescending about it.
One of the customer service reps was bold enough to try and lecture me about my situation.
This is how they treat a customer who paid in full and on time for 12 months straight. Woe to others who may have trouble paying their bills on time.
We never had any problems with them when they were Johnson City Powerboard. When they changed to Brightridge is when they took a turn for the worse. Our bill the first month trippled to $150.00 we were already paying and now we still pay over $100.00 more then what we paid when they were Johnson City Powerboard. Then theh started to offer internet in Jonesborough, so we called and they told us they would send someone out to see if we could get their internet here. The guy pulled in our driveway, never got out of his vehicle while he was testing, and then put a note on our door stating we were ineligible for their internet while we were home and never knocked on the door. My husband is a network engineer and stated there was no possible way he tested to see if could get it. He called several times to let them know what happened and they would never return our call.
Brightridge has done me dirty and I think they have learned the art of cheating people. They will not give you grace on a bill that they claim they got 3 days late. Not a week or month late just 3 days. It's like they have no heart to help people. I could understand getting late fees if a body was like a month late or something. Normally it's on time for me but they will don't care. I just hope they are not doing others as bad as me. It's not just late fees but outrageous bills and when you question they always have an excuse when you know full well that you haven't used that much electric in a months time. My opinion is this company is getting worse all of the time.
I would give negative stars if I could. This company is not customer focused at all. Nothing but a bad experience. Constantly over charged and took advantage of.
worst company ever!!!!!!!!!!! thieves at best!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel this utility company does a really good job in general. They normally have quick response time if there is a power outage. Most, not all, employees I have dealt with there are friendly and helpful. I am hoping they will get their Internet services in my area soon.
Total shiesters at this operation! Their charges are
$50-$100 more each month than what we're now being charged on a home DOUBLE the sq ft w/AEP!
And, after 16 years of clean payment history at our former home (+ 3 more years at local apartments before that), there was 0 grace for us when we moved & failed to fully submit our stop services order correctly!! Despite the fact that our kilowatt usage went from 1,900 to 3 (on the exact date I told them we moved), Brightside is holding US responsible for the energy bills for our old residence for 2 full months!!
I give 3 stars cause thank you JCPB for your power service but no thank you for making low income people pay a $300 deposit if they have "bad credit" as if y'all need the extra money on top of your extremely high bills. I mean you know if their low income then their power is bound to get cut off at least once or twice if they can't pay an extremely high bill. But thank you for being here so people can have power and all. (I say sarcastically)
Johnson city power goes up each time. My house is empty I travel for work and October bill was $ 35.46, Nov bill was $ 96.17 and now Dec bill was 117.45 all those months the house was the same tell me how are they getting the differences? Is this the trick to the the smart meter should I ask for an analogue meter to be accurate? Same as the utility bill my Johnson city utility for October was $26, Nov $24 Dec$ 336.34 what are they using to gun the meters with? This riduculous !!!!!
I hope everyone is lucky enough to get Summer when you call in. She s very knowledge, and made my day brighter at 8 am calling in to make a payment.
I have been in my current home for around 5 years. With the new name of Brightridge came an extremely noticeable increase in billing. I have never had a bill over $200 yet I have with them. I was not home for 1/5 of the current billing period, had CH&A off, and everything unplugged yet my bill is $20 higher than last year. I'm not the only one with this issue, but sadly they are the only provider in my area.
Horrible. My bill was due on December 4th and my power is already cut off. When i called they said we do not operate on a 30 day notice. Worst service ever for those who are low income as myself. If there was another electricity service in this area, i would switch immediately.
Changed their name and doubled their rates, but oh wait, can't get power anywhere else so they aren't worried.
They don't care what the situation or reason why your payment is late they will still shut the power off.
They charge 60 dollars for same day turn on 40 dollars for next day. Even though drivers are not backed up. They did not allow us to turn on online so you can only turn on in person. If you come from out of town you are at their mercy and they prey on you. Also they charge extra for a deposit. 300 each even if you have paid your power though other companies just fine. When public hearings are available when they try to say they need money dont let them increase rates.
Quick to raise your rates, but slow to fix a power outage.
No problems with the service but your phone bill pay is terrible. I had to enter the same number 6 times before it would recognize it. You would think you d make this service easy and problem free. Also, our monthly bill has doubled... we work night shift here and leave the heat on low. Never in my life have I had a $400 heating bill. This is absolutely ridiculous. If I wasn t renting I would be going to solar!!
Thanks Brightridge! My wife called about a pole installed next to our house that is leaning towards the house with a transformer on it. It is at least at a 20 degrees lean off of 90. The technician comes out at night and must be upset so he says the pole is safe but checks our meter at the house and says the meter base is bad and needs to be replaced. He says he has to pull the meter due to safety. He won't allow us to talk to his supervisor and said it was our responsibility to fix it because it was on this side of the wire. He leaves us in the dark with my one year and five year old grandbabies visiting for the 4th. It is hot and dark and we are left with no electricity at 10:00 at night trying to find an electrician to come out on the holiday to fix it. This is nuts! I can only imagine the costs for the holiday but mainly my grandbabies are confused, hot, and scared. Thanks Brightridge. I hope you have a happy 4th. You sure left us hanging in the dark.......literally!
Power has been on in all areas around me except for a 3 block radius and all customer service could say was "sweetheart you don't understand trees are down and lines are so our crews are restoring all this and it takes time". My power has been out since 5pm but the next street over has never lost power and l see no downed trees or lines
so hmmmmm who doesn't understand what , as she sits in her air conditioned cubicle?
My bills have never been as high as it is since bright Ridge has took over. They need to investigated for how much the bills has gone up.
Doubled the rates with out warning...retired military on a fixed income... this might be the difference between me eating or being semi warm.
Your service sucks but i expect no less from conservatrash.
Trying to pay my mom's power bill is like pulling teeth. My mom recently was put in a nursing home so I'm trying to pay her light bill but brightridge will not give you the option for one time payment. Her light bill is in her late husband's name so I would need his so security number to be able to process online which is ridiculous, no one else does this. Very disappointed.
Again I just tried to get this service to change to my mailing address they were not do it. Since I did this review my Mom has passed and still I cannot get anything changed so to pay this bill I have to call every month to pay. This is ridiculous.
Problem explanation skills 4/5
Problem solving skills 0/5
I have used the Johnson City Power Board since 1968. Their programs have been a great help and their response times exceptional.
Ruth - Boones Creek
With the new fancy name came a big price increase for its customers...what a bunch of bull!! HELLO SOLAR PANELS/WIND TURBINES, GOODBYE OVER PRICED ANTIQUATED LINE FEED MONOPOLY BASED SERVICE!!!!!
I know of other houses that are behind 3 months and they have power. My wife forgot to pay one time and they turn off ours. Its a money monopoly.
I'd love to know how they justify their reconnection fees. It's $60.00 if you happen to make a human error and forget to pay your bill one time which was more than half of what the bill was. If you have to get it turned back on over a weekend for some reason it's $150.00. Ludacris!!!
JCPB IS PICKING OUR POCKET WITH A INCREASE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH IS A BS WORD JUST ANOTHER WAY TO ROB US LOW INCOME ARE THE ONE TO SUFFER THEY TOOK NOT ASK ANYONE JUST SAID WE ARE GOING TO TAKE $4.00 MORE EVERY MONTH FROM YOU AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT GET SOME CANDLES .MY BROTHER LIVES IN A STATE WITH TWO ELECTRIC COMPANIES YOU GET TO PICK THE ONE YOU WANT TENNESSEE THEY PICK YOUR POCKET ARE POCKET I HAVE TO CONTACT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ABOUT THIS.
If I could give this power company less than one star I would. There app is glitchy and it s payment system is second rate at best. The representative seems clueless and unable to help me with my problem. They don t notify you if payments fail until it pops up with a late fee 6 days later. If I had a choice this would be the last light company I would use.
all i can say is i had to go under my moms name because i couldnt afford the 300 dollar deposit who has that kind of money to just be sitting in a bank somewhere maybe 100 i mean they should go but how much the average bill is its crazy
We made the switch from Comcast to BrightRidge fiber optics and that included phone, internet and TV and we couldn't be happier. Everything happened as promised and that was an immediate difference from our former provider. Today, we had our first service interruption. Was surprised that the phone and TV kept working but we did not have internet. Called and was on hold for a bit, but spoke to a representative who quickly informed me that they were aware of the outage and were diligently working to resolve it. In less than 45 minutes service was restored. Our former provider could leave us without any service for several hours and all you would get when you called was computer generated message.
At this point I couldn't be happier with the BrightRidge Fiber Optic service. Great Job on today's temporary interruption.
Horrible service mixed with awful customer service. Bright ridge is a perfect example of what happens to a company when there is a monopoly. Their employees are poorly trained and never held accountable for their actions. They are aware you have to have electricity and act accordingly. If they had competition they would either shape up or go out of business.
.First, one normally gets an option to give a name. Not sure how they picked up my name anyway when I don't even have an online account.
FYI....in event of a family member's death, they will do nothing to help get the bill to you at a different address until you can provide probate papers, death cert, your ID , and in my case proof of death and marriage of spouse who died 20 years before, since the newly deceased had not changed the acct. over when she lost the spouse. How often do you get someone throwing money your way and your put them off. Just trying to get a change of address initially as I live out of town and didn't want payment to be late. They will charge for auto draft canc, even though I pd. the bill out of my own acct. Also I was told by a rep. to set up auto-draft with the bank. That doesn't happen... they, JCPB, has to set it up, but you cant do that until you can get all the other settled with the death or deaths, in my case. Same situation with JC Utilities and they had it all done same day, 1 hour as a matter of fact, and credited me on the spot for the autodraft charge. It's hard enough to deal with all the things after a death. Does it have to be this hard? Finally I sent an email to one of the Board of Directors asking them to look over this process. and never got a response. Must say the last woman, the 4th I had spoken to, was quite nice in comparison.
4 stars for their linemen.during snow or storms they are out getting it done. Just wish my power did not go off so much on frog level road.
I've never had a problem with any part of the power board. When I moved over here from Carter County, the customer service person who set me up was very nice. Every time I go in to pay my bill, it doesn't matter who takes care of me. They are always nice. After my house was inspected and the electrical passed inspection, they were right out here the next day and had the power on. So I couldn't find any fault with them even if I looked for it.
My bill has never been over 200-220. That's with running the heat around the clock at 68. Past month it's been off with just the gas fireplace running to knock the cold days out. But my bill was 300+ it's never been that high. This place is garbage with the greed
Maybe you should spend more money on customer service reps and less on name changes...finally hung up after 20 mins on hold...lost power 3 times in 3 days...thumps down to Bright Ridge
I have lived at my current residence since April of 2014. Prior to JCPB changing to BRIGHT RIDGE my bill was never above 194.00. I live alone. I leave my house at 6:00 or 7:00 (at the latest for work) and do not return until 8;00 or 9:00 3 days a week and 7:00 the other 2 days. Most weekends, I am out of town. In Jan my electric bill was 379. and when I called about it, the lady gave me some BS excuse about the reason for such a high bill being the Christmas season and my thermostat being on 72. Now I have always had it on 72 in the past and NEVER had a bill that high!!!! I don t put up any lights inside or out for Christmas so that should not effect my bill whatsoever!!!! I am sooo mad. I am going to talk to some one there and if I don t get some resolution, I m going to talk to Nate at WJHL.
I think those who are having a similar situation should consider doing so and yes, as a community we need to stand together and NOT let this company get away with this!!! It s beyond ridiculous and criminal as far as I m concerned!
Just plain lying garbage, this company is GARBAGE!!
We have been without power 3 days. Thsy have power everywhere else around us.they were on the next street I even told them all we need is a breaker reset. When I called this morning they did not even know we were out of power after everyone on the street has callef numerous times.
I have electricity in my home. It works when I flip the switch. What else could you expect from a power company?
I have lived in the Johnson city area for about 4 years now. I have been with jcpb the entire time. Each time I have contacted them either to make a payment or talk to customer service i have been impressed. I agree with the other comments ive read about their unwillingness to allow a little extra time to pay or work out a payment plan when you receive a larger than normal bill. I moved here from north Carolina and power was provided through Duke power and they always would work with you. JCPB only gives you 10 days, that's it and you are in the dark. Not everyone can pay a 400 electric bill without a little extra time.
My bill was $515 this month. We've lived here 12 years & its never been anywhere near that high. The heat was off & we had a fire going everyday last month(which we hadn't done much in previous yrs). We only had a Christmas tree lit but we usually have the whole house decorated & a few in the yard. Plus to top all that off, we bought a brand new heat pump last year. There's no good reason why it should be that high when we did so much to lower it.
Prices go up while service goes down! Same great people NOT dame great service! Only place that tells more lies than Washington DC
Great place! Took no more than half hour to start new service, and to pay the deposit.
I get paid every 2 weeks and had some vehicle trouble so I couldn't pay my bill called in and asked to pay it this Friday pretty much told me to kick rocks so here I am with no power till tomorrow, thank you power board
Professional Service, Quick Response Time. I Had a transformer go out on a Sunday and they had a team over within 1 hr. They had the transformer on the pole swapped out quick. Thanks BrightRidge for Everything.
Haven t received a bill from them since we connected the power in July. One month they showed up and cut it off without notifying us at all it was even due (on the 3rd of the month is when they cut it off). We spoke with someone when we called in to pay it and advised them that we have never gotten a bill or a disconnect notice. Customer service rep tried to tell me and my boyfriend we were enrolled to receive phone calls. I told them we didn t want that and we wanted paper bills. We have still NOT received a bill from them. Then today (12-10-18) we go get our mail and see a disconnect notice. I guess they will make sure you get your fee but not the bill itself. No wonder there isn t another power company in JC because if there was JCPB or now known as bright ridge wouldn t have any business.
I wish I could give a lesser rating. My electric bill was over $400, with my thermostat set at 62, only 2 people in my house. We work nights and don't run a dishwasher or washer and dryer. Saying that 'January temps were the lowest in blah, blah, blah' IS A COP-OUT!!! my bill has NEVER been even close to $400!!! $275 is an EXTREME month when I actually had my thermostat at 72, in past years. I am actually looking at alternative power sources because you have lost your mind!!!!!
This is insanity ever switch it has switched to BrightRidge I AM GETTING SCREWED! The prices every month are going up by 10 dollars or more. Can I please have some freaking competition in this area instead of an energy monopoly!!!!!!!!!
Trying to make a payment on the automated service...t keeps telling me that I am paying less than the amount even though I am selecting total amount due...
Very professional, very courteous staff. I applied for new service and the process was painless and straight forward. I was pleased that it went so smoothly.
JCPB has not sent us a paper bill in four months. Each month we have to contact them personally to find out when our bill is due, and how much it is. Today we received a disconnect notice on our front door stating our power would be turned off within 24 hours.(keep in mind, I have notified them multiple times that we haven't received any paper bills from them, and that we WANT THEM) and still not a single one has came through. In all honesty it seems as though the JCPB is being shady on purpose to make people (including myself and my fiance) have to pay the fee to turn their power back on.
Good experience overall but I can't use smarthub anymore to pay online. I submit my information to reset my password but it still says it's invalid so now I have to pay by phone.
Atrocious rates in the winter time. I have no central heat and air and no heat in the apartment. It's an older building and the owner/landlord won't fix it so I use a small heater in my bedroom. I have called questioning my high bill and only get numerous reasons why my bill is so high. Last year I froze even with 6 blankets and a comforter on and putting a towel under the door. I unplug everything that is not needed to be left plugged like refrigerater. These high bills need to stop! I'm on disability with a limited income and I start to panic every winter because of this. My bill went down some because I froze last winter and that is just not right!
I received my power bill on jan.5 and it was due Jan. 8 how is that for service.
Good experiences all around. Reception is friendly, never had to wait more than 10 minutes, easy app. Never been overcharged or felt cheated. Love it!
We have had service with them for a few years, anytime we have talked to them over the phone or went there in person to pay a payment or discuss the bill the employees have always been extra nice and helpful will go over your bill and explain anything you have conserns about, I have never talked to anyone so far that has been rude or not friendly, I know people complain because they do not give extensions or grace periods but it is not the employees fault they do not own the company. I know if your power gets turned off and you have any medical conditions that requires a oxygen machine or any kind of medical equipment that may be life threatening without power they will bring a meter out that provides enough power to run medical equipment to keep people safe and to have access to enough power to use their medical devices.
I wish this area had competition bc the prices are outrageous and you can only pay half or go without power. they dont help the little guy even though they charge out the butt. and get away with it bc there is no other option. seriously sad that the working g class keeps the company's lights on better then they do ours.
Friendly, helpful customer service, no power problems.
Very good service until we moved out and tried to cancel. I canceled my service six months ago they've been charging me this whole time i haven't lived at this address in over 6 months cannot get a hold of any operator that is not a robot do not like the fake people calling where are the real people at why is it that i always have to talk to robot that doesn't understand me
When Johnson City upgraded our streetlights to LED, we suddenly had very, very bright light streaming right through our blackout curtains and into our bedroom. When I called to request a dimmer bulb or shield, a representative was out the next day to evaluate the situation. Less than three weeks later, the light was moved to an entirely different location, and I ve never slept better. Thank you for providing a service in every sense of the word to our area!
They know that customers do not have an option and they treat us accordingly.
The power is on everywhere around us except for our street, Wynwood Dr. No power for over 48 hours.
Spoke to Tisha today regarding being behind on a bill and an increase on my bill as well. She was the most kind and helpful customer service rep I've spoken to in quite some time. Typically I dread on calling and inquiring on bills, but she was incredibly personable and went above and beyond to help me. Really great to see good employees at Brightridge!
