We walked from one end to the other and back. It was something that we have always wanted to do. The bridge was magnificent. The views were incredible. The visitor center was a disappointment. They are very light on the history but very big on selling souvenirs. They could do both and should have a small theater with a documentary to educate visitors on the history and building of the bridge.

I went here to take some pictures and it was truly a beautiful bridge. Great place with great views for tourists. Would recommend going to the park on the southern entry of the bridge for the best view.

History, past, present, everything colides here. This is a bridge you want to visit during the day, evening or night and even during the early hours in the morning. The place has restrooms, a cafe, a great history information for anybody walking around the tourist area. This spot is free and open. Feel free to take friends, family and/or a date, everyone is welcome. San Francisco must stop.

Such an iconic landmark in San Francisco! I have seen it a couple times before, but this time I got some great shots from underneath looking up. It was gorgeous. All that green-blue water underneath, wow, wow, wow. And you truly get to see just how tall that bridge is. It you can't go on it, then just at least see it. Stop and take it in!

Always seem to have a good time here, only down fall is being in San Francisco where you can never find a restroom or parking that doesnt need you to sign over your first born.lol Unless you are from out of state and really feel you have to visit San Francisco and the Golden gate bridge i suggest any other bay area city to visit, its cheaper(bridge and parking will get you).

Walked in August so missed the famous fog, not a bad walk and the bridge certainly looks good from a distance, but when on it one quickly sees its just a bridge, and nothing more. Traffic, both cars pedestrian and bikes meant it was quite busy and noisy when we went, might be nicer at another time of day, but the fact remains its just a bridge.

Every time that I visit SF I cross the Golden Gate walking. Either way you can rent a bike and ride across all the bridge, you can continue to Sausalito if you want to a complete bay area sightseeing.

Well, what can I say about this place that hasn't been said before? I've been there now for a couple of times and mostly I have been very lucky with the weather: it seems that the Golden Gate Bridge is completely covered in fog at times. That hasn't occurred to me yet. The view you get from those points nearby is always breath taking. Last time I went there with a friend from Napa valley and he said: 'Damn, I haven't been here in ages. It's simply such a touristy thing that we don't that anymore. I should definitely come here way more often'.

Amazing place. All are welcomed. Various trails available, that allow you to appreciate the Golden Gate Bridge in different angles. Trails can be walked or biked. The trails connect to beaches like Baker Beach, which is beautiful. Definitely recommend, here any place, position or angle is great for a picture. Parking can be difficult to find, but definitely worth the experience. Bring comfortable shoes and a sweater, the bay can be chilly.

San Francisco and the mid-sixties were a special place and a special time to be a part of. But no explanation, no mixture of words, music and memories could touch the awareness of being there, alive, in that corner of time and world, whatever that meant. There was madness in every direction, at any time, you could spark sparks everywhere, there was a fantastic, universal feeling that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. And that, I think, was our foothold, that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of the old and evil, not in a violent or evil sense, we didn't need it, our energy would simply prevail, we had all the momentum, we rode the crest of a very high and wonderful wave.

We cycled across it. Perhaps should have purchased bikes nearer the bridge. We did about 5 miles before we got there. It's hit or miss with the weather obviously so some days you cannot even see the top due to clouds. Cycle or walk across it as it is a very good experience. It's extremely busy and there are hundreds of people trying to get the perfect picture so make sure you have the confidence to take your place when you get it. BUT when you do get that picture it is well worth it

My experience walking across Golden Gate was AMAZI...

My experience walking across Golden Gate was AMAZING! The architecture and design of the bridge was magnificent, and my experience walking the whole bridge was breathtaking! It will very likely be windy and chilly, so be prepared for that, but aside from that the views and everything were spectacular! Seeing the bridge up close is already mind blowing, but actually walking the bridge is a different experience. We even saw a gigantic cargo ship and some whales while walking! Also, a quick note, use the bathroom before walking, because it would suck to want to use it in the middle of the bridge.

Definitely MUST go if you have not seen the bridge before, because seeing the bridge with the mist and fog is an experience you can NOT miss!

The Golden Gate Bridge is a technical masterpiece that can only be described in superlative terms. When the bridge was completed in 1937 it was the world's longest and tallest suspension bridge.
But above all this masterly example of engineering is a magnificent monument set against a beautiful backdrop.

Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge started in 1933. The bridge, which was designed by engineer Joseph Strauss was built to connect San Francisco with Marin County across the 1600 meter (+5000ft) wide strait known as the Golden Gate which links the San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean.
The dimensions of the bridge defied all imagination. The total length of the bridge is 8,981ft or 2,737 m. The main span between the two enormous towers is 4,200 ft or 1,280 meters long, making the Golden Gate Bridge the world's largest suspension bridge,
a record that would stand until 1964 when the Verrazano-Narrows bridge in New York was completed.
The two beautiful Art Deco towers are almost 820ft or 250 meters tall, of which more than 20 meters is below the sea level. The road, six lanes and 90 ft / 27m wide is an amazing 220 ft or 67 meters above the water level. It is supported by enormous cables, anchored in hundreds of bars locked into concrete blocks with a pulling power of 25 million kg. The two cables have a total length of 2,332 meters and a diameter of 90 centimeters. They are woven from 27,572 threads of steel with a total length that equals three times the earth's circumference.

Great place to visit. There is a lot of information regarding the bridge and the history of it which are really interesting. You can walk/bike/drive across the bridge, depending on your preference. It's clean and safe and when you're at the mid bridge, you'll be able to look back to the city of SF as a whole which is really beautiful! Doesn't matter whether it's a sunny or cloudy day, you'll be able to see SF in a different way!

Defintiely worth the hype! Also, some wonderful crabbing can be done underneath the bridge! Crabs pulled from this spot were delicious, soft, and perfectly seasoned by tbe water!

What a fabulous construction indeed. I visited Golden Gate Bridge in 2010 June. My friends took me there. I was simply amazed to see the massive suspension bridge in San Francisco city.
Genius Engineer Joseph Strauss together with other engineers commenced the Bridge in 1933 January. This was the longest suspension bridge and they completed the task in 1937. Tourists marvel at this great architecture.
Length of one Cable - 7650 ft
Diameter of one cable - 92.4cm
Wires in each cable - 27,572
Total wires used - 80,000 miles
Weight of cable - 24,500 tons
I'm still amazed

Great place. Not too crowded during weekdays which was wonderful. Going into San Francisco has toll so be aware. Toll can be paid online so don't need toll pass device. Place to see once and that should be enough

A lot to see. Good walking shoes is a must, along with some snacks. Obviously be prepared to take many pictures of the different great views of the bridge and parks. Be aware of common brake-ins to cars in plane view, daytime; so no valuables in sight in your vehicle is important.

First timer! Parked on South side, walked to Vista Point on the north side, and back. Beautiful sunny day, weather was chilly and bridge was windy, but what a view of Alcatraz and the city skyline! Many people out enjoying this iconic marvel, even on Super Bowl Sunday with the 49ers on the field! The walk itself is relatively flat and easy. The roar of traffic is loud. The parks on either side are attractively designed and clean with interesting exhibits. Definitely recommend this unique experience with its beautiful scenery!

It was just as cool as I hoped it would be. We ended up at the Coast Guard area at the bottom of the bridge, couldn't have planned a better viewing area. There was a sea lion barking at the fishermen asking for a treat.

Great tourist attraction for all ages. It's better to go earlier than later because of the amount of tourists that flock there. Great bike trail near here that leads over the bridge.

Fantastic huge bridge linking SF to North California. Classic red suspension bridge that we've all grown up knowing and loving. I remember it from watching Full House(the tv show) so much. It takes a LONG time to walk across it. So the best way to experience it is walk to the middle and walk back. Amazing experience!

Amazing structure!!

Amazing structure!!

We considered cycling over as a family, but in the end glad that we didn't as it is very windy and traffic moves very quickly even though the cycle lane is separated from the cars. Instead we walked half way across and returned via the same route. The views of the San Francisco bay from the bridge are amazing too.

The Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point is a fantastic place to take in the beauty and immensity of this storied and iconic bridge.

We visited it during our Summer road trip from Tigard, Oregon through Northern California.

You never know what the weather will hold and in fact it was very foggy over the bridge most of our time in the Bay Area.

But we were still able to appreciate it and our kids can say that they drove over it!

Went as a tourist so it was an interesting bucket list item to walk across the bridge. The views were great and we enjoyed it. Consider earplugs as the traffic noise got unpleasant rather quickly.

#naparoots Walk the west side of the bridge to see the ocean and Farlon island, east side views the city, Bay area and Alcatraz. It's a much longer walk than most experience. Great evening views of SF from the Marin / North side of the bridge ( usually not a lot of people at night ).

Pretty views. It is a major landmark, so naturally it is one of the things you want to see while you are in town. It gets windy here on the bridge, so a jacket/windbreaker is highly recommended.
