Just went to have a breakfast there with my wife. We order our dishes and when the server brought the food, one of them was wrong. No problem! I told her that I didn t order that and she said that YES I had order that dish. I m vegetarian and she brought me a bacon and ham dish, which I would never order. However, instead correct her mistake she started arguing with me saying that I made that order, the wrong food!
I asked to talk to The manager and she said in a harsh and VERY sarcastic way that she was the manager. The other customers stared at us so shocked that a man came to us and said that we were correct. I wasn t mad because the food came wrong, I was enjoying my morning with my wife and this person ruined! I asked her name and she said out loud My name is HEATHER and you can go to the front desk complain about me.
So according to my experience I would say ZERO customer service and I think the Sylvia management should be aware about the a very impolite and unprofessional that led to give a bad review!.

The Sylvia Hotel is in a lovely heritage building overlooking English Bay. Location is prime for access to Stanley Park, Kitsilano and central Vancouver. It has a reasonable restaurant and bar, with great views over the bay. Rooms are basic and fine.

Decent size rooms but dated when it comes to fittings and hardware. Exterior noise can be heard clearly. We did have an unexpected issue with out first room, however the staff quickly and efficiently moved us to a similar room. Location of the hotel could not be better. Pretty much on the beach and within walking distance of almost everything.

A great boutique hotel right on English Bay. Have stayed there in the past but this time just went for a drink and snack in the lounge. Great views of English Bay.

Stepping into Sylvia's is stepping into an essential part of Vancouver's history! Its period details are matched by the exemplary atmosphere, service and joy whether staying as a guest or just popping to the bar for a drink or the restaurant for a meal.

Its atmosphere is only trumped by the imperious surroundings of English Bay in their full glory.

Fantastic hotel directly on beautiful English Bay and two blocks from Stanley Park - perfect home base for seeing best of Vancouver! Wonderful + large suites perfect for families. We always stay @ The Sylvia when we visit Vancouver - enjoyed a week here in November

The hotel bar was busy on the Thursday night we visited. The majority of the clientele were senior citizens, but there were a few tables with 30-somethings as well. The entertainment was a piano-playing and singing duo playing songs from the Sound of Music and others of the same genre. The drinks were reasonably priced and the service good. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the Sylvia has a lot of history.

Was in the lobby for 2-3 minutes before we were even greeted even though 3 staff members stood right in front of us discussing how busy they are. We left and went to Joe's grill where we were greated seated and had coffees in under a minute even though they were busy toi

We were transferred to a superior room with sea view

I live in English Bay in Vancouver and treated myself to brunch in the Sylvia Hotel Lounge today. The food was great and the view is excellent, but I am writing this review specifically to say that the service was outstanding. I will be returning on a regular basis because of this experience. Thank you!

You can t stay at this hotel and not feel its charming and unique atmosphere. It s old but that s what makes it great. (It s remodeled on the inside.) The building is beautiful, the service is wonderful, and the food is delicious. Plus, you can t beat that view! Great place to stay during the spring and summer. Can t recommend it enough.

no better location for a relaxed visit to Vancouver. It is across the street from the ocean and the walkway. It is a 5 minute walk to Stanley Park. There are LOTS of great food options also within walking distance.
My wife and i decided to use trolley bus to get to downtown and back and it was easy cheap fast and frequent.
We also took the train from the airport and connected using the #6 - again easy.
But best of all the pub and restaurant look into the shore . ..
one drawback - the rooms .
Kinda old and tacky

Overlooking Vancouver s English Bay, & covered in ...

Overlooking Vancouver s English Bay, & covered in Virginia Creeper which changes colour with the seasons, the Sylvia Hotel surely stands out but in a subtle manner. Its early 1900s architectural style with its Virginia Creeper, a fairly bright rusty-orange through the autumn, gives the building, built in 1912 & occupied in 1913 an aura of the dramatic but in an understated way. It is designated heritage. The Sylvia s drama comes from the natural world; from its spectacular setting, minutes away from Vancouver s Stanley Park - itself outstanding as a large & beautiful public park close to the centre of the downtown - the views guests can take in of the bay in front of it, especially at sunset, &, of course, the foliage of the Virginia Creeper.

Really enjoyed our first ever stay at the hotel. I lived in the West End in the 1980s and always found the Virginia creeper covered building when I passed by. It is very much the classic and comfortable place I thought it would be.

A beautiful and very old hotel with a nice bar / restaurant. The rooms are a bit old style but have everything they should have. The hotel has a parking garage which is very convenient in the big city. Walk 10 meters and you are standing in the sea, although you will not see it at 2/3 of the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of many eateries and Stanley Park. The rest of Vancouver is a long walk

Great location, but the hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. The carpet is old and spongy, the shower had a debilitating lack of pressure and the switch between bath tap and shower head didn't divert all of the pressure to the shower head which worsened the issue. The age of the hotel also led to a musky smell.

I'd say it is good for some 40s nostalgia, and the restaurant downstairs was popular and sounded like it had a good environment, this review relates to the room conditions only.

The wifi was the worst I've experienced; getting 1mps when working, it dropped often. Improved towards the back end of our stay, but Starbucks around the corber was my go to

Historic hotel right off of English beach and Stanley park. Big cozy rooms and suites, parking available onsite (~18$/d), and restaurant bar with a nice view and weekend brunch. Great location for a quick swim (polar bear swim!) first thing in the morning.
I recommend reading the history of the hotel provided in the room.

Facebook says I visited here "yesterday". Nope, it was today so Facebook gets one star. "Yesterday" I was in Dallas., not Vancouver.

Sylvia's gets 4 stars. Good food, good service and a killer view of the beach.

If you every want to feel cozy and high class stop in here... Without the high class attitude the warm inviting service and delicious food is happiness in a visit... I am crazy over their vegi burger and I have had other items like any of the happy hour appies are good and the baked salmon delish... When ever I have room I savor their creme Brule like there is no tommorow, I love the energy at the Sylvia Supper Club
When my dad visited we frequented this place he for the fish and chips

A lovely place for Sunday Brunch especially on a sunny day overlooking English Bay. Our server Rey was excellent and brought a smile to everyone's face with his sunny disposition. The food was good and service was prompt! A good time was had by all.

Location was nice. I was visiting guests for the first time there. Decor was amazing. Rooms were nice. Restaurant seemed spacious even though we didn't utilize it. I would recommend both hotel and restaurant to friends and family.

Don't stay here. They are dangerously avoiding covid measures. Staff with no masks. No sanitization. Horrible. I also heard the front desk making fun of a minority for being partially blind.

we decided to stay at The Sylvia Hotel and Restaurant for our 40th wedding anniversary and we were absolutely pleased to have made that choice..the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel atmosphere was cozy...our walk into Stanley Park, meals along Denman Street, wandering the neighborhood to end up at the Vancouver Convention Centre at Burrard Inlet and then walking Coal Harbour Seawall before returning to the Hotel...many good memories and wonderful experiences...

Crab cakes were so so, but the sauce was good and salad was fresh. Shrimp linguine was well executed and very tasty. A nice touch would have been a fresh shaving of parmigiano in addition to it being all mixed in. It is always nice to have both the fresh cracked pepper and parmigiamo added at the table by the server.

A bit on the pricey side for the drinks & food (a modest cut above the standard pub fare), this venerable Vancouver landmark's bar is worth it for the retro vibe and of course the spectacular views of sunsets over English Bay.

Only ever been to the restaurant. The view is the best thing about this place; the service is usually glacial, and the food is okay. Go for a coffee or cocktail, and enjoy the beautiful view or the occasional live musicians they have perform.

I chose this hotel because of the location (the proximity to Stanley Park and the trail). It's dog-friendly, which is awesome, and they don't charge an extra fee for having your dog stay with you. The room I had was big and spacious, which was nice. The bathroom was small, but that doesn't matter as much. The bed was comfortable. Only one of the elevators was working, and it was tiny - 2 people fit in it comfortably, but a 3rd would make it cramped. The staff was polite and helpful.

My biggest complaint is about the wifi. It was frustratingly slow 95% of the time, and then other times would not work at all. I wasn't doing anything intensive, just searching the web for directions, or Yelp for recommendations on restaurants, etc. I was on the 3rd floor, and going to the lobby helped a little, the wifi was a bit stronger in the lobby, but that's pretty inconvenient. When we notified the front desk about the wifi, they restarted the router, hoping that would fix it, but to no avail. It was so frustrating that I would probably not stay at this hotel again, even though I was happy with every other aspect of my stay.

Pros: building is beautiful, location is great, no fee for dogs.

Cons: The man at the front desk was rude, the wifi is awful (very slow when it is working and it often just goes offline), no AC.

It gets two stars because I don't understand how the wifi could be so bad in downtown Vancouver. I kept having to use my mobile data because the internet was always less than 10mps sometimes 1mps.
