Renee Andrews Review of Hotel Sylvia

Overlooking Vancouver s English Bay, & covered in Virginia Creeper which changes colour with the seasons, the Sylvia Hotel surely stands out but in a subtle manner. Its early 1900s architectural style with its Virginia Creeper, a fairly bright rusty-orange through the autumn, gives the building, built in 1912 & occupied in 1913 an aura of the dramatic but in an understated way. It is designated heritage. The Sylvia s drama comes from the natural world; from its spectacular setting, minutes away from Vancouver s Stanley Park - itself outstanding as a large & beautiful public park close to the centre of the downtown - the views guests can take in of the bay in front of it, especially at sunset, &, of course, the foliage of the Virginia Creeper.
