Lovely bar with views. Great service from mark and Calvin the two bartenders.
The place itself could do with an update, the staff is super
You couldn't ask for a better location! Water, biking & walking paths across the street, rental bikes, too, with helmets & liners. Staff friendly, dog friendly, restaurant, bar, lounge on site, away from the big city part of Vancouver, quiet area, Stanley Park just a few blocks away
The Sylvia is a great landmark. Ilove staying here as its close to the park and beach. This time I felt the front desk was very unorganized and one person was not at all accomodating even thou I'll admit we did have to change rooms. I will stay again because its wonderful and the location is really excellent having a dog that loves to walk. Great breakfast!
Great historic place. Last of the old style accommodations and hospitality. No air conditioning.
This is a lovely place, with decent and cheeky service, quality food and drink, and a terrific ground-level view of English Bay.
I ve been here for a few breakfasts. Decent food and selection, a good neighbourhood eatery at a hotel.
Haven't stayed in The SyLviaHoTeL since the '80's so can't speak for the rooms these days...they were clean, vintage and quaint then.
Otherwise, The Sylvia Hotel Lounge is a must stop in my opinion. Maybe I'm a hick, but I just don't tHiNK many of us get to have a cocktail in situ, so to speak, where it's namesake, Errol Flynn, enjoyed one...
Besides, the LoCaTioN is absolutely ToPNoTcH, the food and service are in keeping with this locations storied history... How can you miss?
Oh, and back in the day? There WaS a BeAuTiFuL piano in the corner; and it was good.
Still love the view. Service is great..a little pricier than I remembered. But still full of seniors!
Always great. Breakfast with a window seat looking over English bay can't be beat
Fantastic location for this historic Vancouver property! Excellent dining and view of English bay!
A lovely old hotel, steeped in history. Very well located near Stanley Park. Nice, walkable neighborhood. I'm glad I chose it for our first night in Vancouver; we later stayed at the Marriott Parq, the complete opposite of the Sylvia. I'll take the cozy and friendly Sylvia over a glass/steel modern hotel any day.
Dog-friendly, spacious rooms, super friendly staff, and a great location. Definitely one of our favourite places to stay when visiting Vancouver.
Beautiful place to come for a drink on the patio and stare out at the ocean. The patio needs an upgrade as it is looking quite tired.
Lovely views. The prices don't hugely break the bank. Fish and chips good value. Some of the dinner items are pricey and their cocktails are unreasonably expensive. But still nice to come in. Service us very good.
Super busy - server was run off her feet.
Food was less than ok. Eggs Benny with salmon - muffin not toasted, out of the can tasting Hollandaise and everything cold-
Pancakes flat and chewy, turkey sausages hard and cold but good hard boiled eggs that were the only thing warm on the plate.
Sad experience. Not coming back.
Good gastropub style restaurant with surprisingly reasonable prices, not too busy, great place to go for the Festival of Lights.
Great hotel, Great atmosphere, great LIVE music and the best views in town. super friendly staff, The food is also really good.
I guess most people think the food services are for hotel guest only but it's open to the public so I call it a little know secret of English Bay. My Grandfather would stay there when visiting in the late 1950s early 1960s. In a few words historic & charming. Quality food for an attainable price, and excellent service being a long lasting hotel and all.
Good location. Wish there were power outlets by the bed.
Nothing great, McDonald's fries.....and too pricey!
We had a double-birthday breakfast there this morning. View is always splendid, no matter the weather. Eggs benedict and omelets were delicious and cooked as we asked. Our waiter, Rey, joked with us while staying very attentive to our needs. He even brought us - unasked for - a free birthday cheesecake with fruit and two candles! Birthday girl (age 82) and boy (age 58) were both delighted. A lovely event all round.
Had a great overnight stay. Clean room, ocean view. Front desk staff were very friendly.
Amazing beauty!
Very, very memorable one night
108 year old hotel
This room can only be booked by phone~
Had fish and chips and it was like rubber! Even the fries and cold!
Great location. Old style, quaint, comfortable, clean, very friendly service, big rooms.
The location was wonderful and the room was perfectly fine. All of the staff was exceptionally helpful, we loved our time here.
The location is perfect with beautiful wiev from the restaurant to English Bay Beach.
Part of the hotel. Warm and inviting , good leaks reasonably price.looks out over the green onto the bay.
An historic building with one of the most beautiful views in Vancouver; one of my favorite places to bring visitors for brunch. The restaurant food, alas, is mediocre.
!!!HORRIBLE!! THIEFS...DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL. I HAD $$ STOLEN FROM EMPLOYEE AND THEY LIED AND MADE EXCUSES TO KICK ME OUT BECAUSE I WAS NOT QUIET ABOUT THE THEFT. THEY ALSO ILLEGALLY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD WITH 116.56$ CHARGE.
I have stayed at many hotels never had a problem.
Even the policeman agreed with me but nothing they could do.
The location is awesome but too bad Mr. Mcleod the manager on duty and the rest of the team are very unprofessional and unfair.
Td Bank said they will refund me the fraudulant charges and open a investigation .. thank god but what a bad experience.
Also not a safe place for kids or senior citizens because they can be easy pray..
Be careful
Iantastic location at a very reasonable price. Rooms spacious and clean with superior bedding. Old world hotel with lots of charm.
Downtown and Stanley park within walking distance. If You are coming to Vancouver do yourself a favor check scalability at the Sylvia hotel.
An amazing hotel and would definitely recommend this hotel. My choir stayed there and they catered us well. We got breakfast and 2 dinners out of 5 there and they packed us lunches.
Sylvia restaurant is always great. Simple, straightforward, inexpensive, friendly staff and you are sitting on English Bay. What's not to like?
Incredible history, service, location food and drinks
Very cozy hotel with friendly staff. Extremely good location with a view to a English bay. But the building is old.
Real Vancouver.Best management in town of food and services with Ryan.Ace, the bartender is solid while the Internationally favored story of Mister Got to Go: The Cat that Wouldn't Leave, represented on Children s lobby copies and actual archived footage adorning walls are appreciated! My University Prof. was enthralled with Mr. Jones and what a fantastic real-life legend of a story and cat.Above average squid (happy hour $5 off),and characters like the Bellboy have been there 40 years.Haunted; Many have seen the archaic lady-ghost contributing to this Halloween pilgrimage.Errol Flynn s 1910 cocktail bar;Vancouver s first.
Heritage site. Actual rooms are quite modest. No air conditioning. Lovely location, though.
Staff is attentive and on the ball. Love the old feel of this hotel.
The pub has great ambience, good food and a wonderful view of English Bay. It's very romantic to watch the sun go down.
Big rooms. Good price. Wore down furnishing and no ac.
Nice rustic style hotel with good restaurant and service
I've thought long and hard about what to say about this place, because I realize this could be a very damning review, but in the end the truth needs to be said. First, the good. Great, great, great location in English Bay. Attentive and friendly staff. Seemingly pretty good value. Views in English Bay that honestly are top notch. A restaurant with near floor to ceiling windows and views of the bay. Now the bad. It's a 107 year old hotel, so that brings some "bad", such as tiny old elevators. (not a big deal) A slight old building smell (not a problem for me). Tiny, run down older bathrooms. But again, it's a 107 year old building, so not bad right we'll take the good with the not so-bad. Now for the ugly. After being here 4 nights, on the last night we were in the dining area very late on a Saturday night, 12:30 PM. Most of the people had already left, it was very quiet and we were quietly talking at the last populated table. And then I saw a mouse. At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks. And then there were 2 mice running under our table and all over! They weren't shy but ran if you put your foot down. And I chased one and it ran into the ducting on the wall under the big window and disappeared. And I got quite animated to the bartender and since no one else was around I yelled "hey! There are mice!" And he said "Yeah, we know." And he went back to cleaning up for the night.
And I was kind of dumbfounded. Wait, what? Mice? This is normal? I don't know, maybe it is normal for a super old building in Vancouver? But then I thought, whoever owns this hotel, shame on you. Your hotel is doing well, it's been around a long time, the land alone is worth a ton of money, so there are no excuses for something like this. This is a hotel with charm, history, heritage, location and value. And mice. Get rid of the mice Sylvia Hotel ownership! Ick! Room 705 early Nov 2018.
Nice View, free parking, awesome food, decent price.
20 years ago this became our favorite Vancouver hotel to stay at. The years since have seen a roller coaster of prices, quality, and cleanliness. We still go out of nostalgia but I can't heartily recommend at the present price vs quality.
Lovely place, great views, good food, but terrible service for a large group. Restaurant served some tables an hour after the first tables.
Day or night, winter or summer, a good friend and a glass of wine with a stunning view of English Bay and beyond, this has been a favourite haunt of mine for over 43 years....and the blueberry pancakes are pretty good too. It's not shirk or
Good food and service. Nice location downtown in a classic hotel.
The shower in my room was a little cold and not what I'm used to (because of the shower head and how it sprayed). No fitness room :( But the restaurant breakfast was delicious.
Nice location, but Hotel is really dated and has no amenity facility like fitness, pool etc.
Lovely appetizers and drinks. Amazing atmosphere, service and view. A bit expensive. Haven't had dinner here yet only a light snack so will vote on last star later.
Great atmosphere, food and views. Very spacious restaurant and bar
Classy place! Practise Club wishes they were this good!
Lovely and quaint. I have loved this building since I was a little girl. Tonight my husband and I went for dinner. The hotel has a lovely lounge for casual eating and the slightly more formal restaurant. The atmosphere couldn't have been more perfect with great jazz music playing in the background at just the right volume. We got a table right up against the window that faced gorgeous English Bay. Service was impeccable - Pierce , our waiter, was amazing . He was polite and attentive without being intrusive. We were very well looked after. The food was great. Fresh and delicious. We had fried squid and crab cakes for the appetizer course. Delicious. My husband had pasta with clams. It was perfect. My BC salmon salad was just as fantastic. Food locally sourced and cooked to perfection. As a bonus I found out that charming Errol Flynn, one of my favourite actors, was a regular at The Sylvia back in the day. What a wonderful date night Valentine's dinner we had. Thank you to everyone who took such great care of us at the charming Sylvia Hotel. We will most definitely be back.
Really enjoyed the view of the beach relaxed atmosphere and some live music. Our waiter was fantastic also . Great for a different vibe than the other bars locally.
Cozy old-fashioned hotel. We have loved it for 37 years. Love Stanley Park too, right next door.
Old English charm. With fantastic view of English Bay, includes a bar and restaurant with view of English Bay and the Pacific ocean.
difficult to beat the location, very nice historic building, very nice stuff, a bit on the expensive side for a 3 star hotel, good restaurant w a little patio (a bit too little) all in all a very nice
Old hotel with character. Beds were not as comfortable as I'd like for the price but the staff are helpful and friendly
Love the Sylvia. Great ambiance. Wonderful staff. Good food
Hello my name is Robert, I recently stayed at the Sylvia Hotel. I found it to be very beautiful and very comfortable. One of my television's didn't work but they were quick to resolve the issue, and I was impressed with the politeness. The Sylvia Hotel has a great location the beach is right outside your door.
The view was fantastic, the staff was friendly, and parking was very convenient. The food was good for the price. Overall a great experience.
This hotel has the cutest back story ever. The food is also really good.
We had a wonderful night at this hotel! Main course and dessert were excellent!atmosphere was friendly and we enjoyed spending time there
Food is good, coffee sucks. View is great. Won t come back because coffee sucks
Lovely and historical on an amazing location facing the water. Breakfast was to die for
Went in for coffee service was fast and friendly but the coffee wasn't great for its price.
We were a huge group and not the usual clientele. Staff were very accommodating and we had a great time
