Beautiful rooms, beautiful views, beautiful dinner! We loved our two night stay, dinners and breakfast. The staff in the restaurant is very friendly and the meals are delicious. Parking is $20 CAD underground and we didn t have any problems with break ins. I would come again for sure!

My Nanna stayed here while she was visiting me and absolutely loved the service. They kindly upgraded her room to a more accessible executive suite since she was in a wheelchair. They did everything possible to make her stay comfortable. We spent many evenings in the bar and restaurant area which was always lively with music. Great food, enjoyable breakfast as well with fantastic views. It is a beautiful and old hotel with a lot of history. The ivy is just beautiful all year round.

I like the old-fashioned vibe where the front desk keeps your key for you. The room I had was very clean and tidy, with a really nice view of Beach Ave. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
No delays, nothing negative at all.

Restaurant rating only. It was the worst breakfast we ve ever eaten anywhere. The West Coast eggs Benedict didn t have salmon as described, just some salty, strong, grey inedible fish, the crispy potatoes turned out to be terrible, soggy and cold and the coffee was tepid and expensive. Very disappointing. We did have good service though in spite of our complaints with the food. We did complain to the manager as well.

Beautiful historic property with a million dollar view. Very convenient location to English Bay and within walking distance of many sites to visit. Made a reservation in hotel dining room for 8 PM, requested table to see the sunset, and had mentioned it was for an anniversary. However, when we arrived, all the tables by the front window were occupied, so we were put wherever. A little disappointing. Customer service was so so.

Amazing location and awesome history to the building. Live music on select days in the downstairs bar. Small rooms but I don't go on vacation to sit in the hotel. Many great restaurants within walking distance.

I lived at the Sylvia for a few weeks in January due to a flood in my home. Overall, I was pretty happy with it. The location is perfect (the only time an average person like me gets to live on English Bay), the room was nice enough, and the staff were kind to me and my dog.

Because of the length of my stay, I chose a suite with a kitchen so I could cook for myself. The kitchen was small but clean and all the basic amenities were provided (coffee maker, kettle, dishes, flatware, a few pots and pans, etc.). It was survivable until I was able to get back into my own rather well-equipped kitchen. It would have been nice to have a baking sheet, though.

The bed was massive. I'm pretty sure I had a Queen Suite, but the bed had to be a king. I also had a pull-out couch, which came in very handy when I had a friend coming into town for a night who had planned to stay with me before my house flooded. My suite was on a corner so I had lots of windows, and the bathroom was tidy and functional (though the water did take a while to heat up - par for the course in such an old building).

My biggest complaint is with the Internet. It's free, but it's absolutely terrible. Painfully bad. When it works (which is not all the time), it's excruciatingly slow. I don't understand why they'd let this problem stay as is for so long when it would be so simple to upgrade the routers. I also don't recommend room service - I only used it once but it took well over an hour to get to my room.

Location is great, that makes the Experience. Indeed, a major renovation is needed. No air-co, old bathroom. We stayed in a family room which was very quiet. WiFi not always stable.
Keeping the price in mind, it is a good spot to stay with the beach and Stanley park around the corner and good restaurant in the area.

Rich with history, the Sylvia hotel is unique, walk through its life by reading all the pictures on the main floor. The staff was very pleasant and helpful at every turn as well. Right next to Stanley Park was very convenient for us, lots of eateries within walking but no grocery stores as a heads up. 4 stars because, well it is dated a tad in the rooms, no AC, bathroom mirror lights you had to be tall to reach, actual keys for the room are a tad bulky but you could leave them at the front desk too, we had beds for five people, were actually 4 but only received 3 towels every day, no safes but we put our passports at the front desk in an Individual safebox, and last the parking garage entrance is only one car wide so don't be in a rush to go somewhere.

Saw some jazz, drank some cocktails and had a blast. Friendly staff and the drinks were amazing. Definitely coming back. A little local gem for sure. Catch some live music if you can also!

Really nice place to be by the beach! Food was good? But not to die for. Service was amazing. We brought our dog and everyone loved him so much. Great to be here in a hot spring or summer day!

Wonderful view of the water while you eat. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food and drinks came promptly and were prepared wonderfully. The server also offered to split our caesar salad into two plates since we were sharing, which was great.

The service is good and so is the food. It's a great location, you can catch the number 5 a block away and it has a lovely view. Only problem I've had is that I was placed in the room next the elevator which is loud, as well as noticing the walls are paper thin as we can hear everything in the rooms above and beside us.

Great spot for happy hour at English Bay. The views from their patio can t be beat; both of English Bay and the people watching! The service is wonderful, and the food is pretty good too. The Sylvia squid is as good as I ve had anywhere else, and the mushrooms and focaccia bread were great! The flat bread and wings were fine, but nothing special.

This is such a gem in Vancouver. It's so charming and the service here is wonderful. I don't know how they do it. I've been going here for brunches with my then boyfriend (now husband), when we were living just a few blocks away. Now, over 13 years later, we take our kids there even though we don't live close by anymore.

If you want a calm and charming atmosphere with a great view and amazing service, the Sylvia is definitely a place to visit.

I have been there many times and have had to walk out, because of either no service or pathetically slow service.
They have the best location, but fall flat on the necessities to be considered a great place. Even the food falls flat and the drinks are slow to come.
Good luck if it s your destination.

An older establishment, however well kept. Had a musty smell threw out. Our in house hairdryer did not work... the manager comped out daily parking ($18). Nice lounge with live music. Purchase hotel package on Hotwire.ca... claimed to be in the Hilton/Marriott league, not sure I'd agree.

Our go to mini holiday for Christmas and New years. Great Christmas dinner, cool historical ambiance in the hotel and fantastic views of English Bay. Awesome walks on the beach after breakfast or dinner. Highly recommended.

Another wonderful mini holiday at The Sylvia and we would not stay at any other hotel in Vancouver, except last year when we tried to book in June and they were fully booked into September. That must tell you something!!! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food is exceptional and we were lucky enough one evening to get a table on the patio overlooking the seawall and English Bay...no better view anywhere on the West Coast. The staff is most accommodating, pleasant and helpful. We recommended The Sylvia to everyone we know who are planning a trip to Vancouver and they have all been as pleased as we always are, especially our friends from the East Coast who really enjoy the beautiful views, walks along the seawall and proximity to Stanley Park and the shops and restaurants within walking distance.
