Quite enjoyed our stay here. Lounge, restaurant drinks and food were excellent. Staff helpful and friendly. Only issue was the outdated bathroom in our good sized, otherwise comfortable room. Bath is 80s ish tile finish old worn and a little dirty. I would suggest to ask for a room with a renovated bath when booking. Great views from both restaurant and lounge. Both can be busy so arrive early....

I have been going to the Sylvia for years. It is perfectly located on English Bay, near Stanley Park, and in a fashionable corner of the West End. This is an ideal area for taking long walks and eating out both day and night. The Sylvia is an historic hotel with a great variety of room layouts and sizes. I suggest doing a little research on rooms and if you book early you will get the exact one you want. The hotel is not slick or massively upgraded so expect some flaws. However, prices are very reasonable, the location is unbelievable, and the rooms are clean and quiet.

Conveniently located at the east end of beautiful English Bay! We didn't stay at the hotel, but the friendly staff always let passerbys use their washrooms just to the right of the entrance.

Old school bar in the heart of English bay. Part of the Sylvia hotel, one of the first high rises in the area. There's live music (mostly jazzy) playing in the evenings, reasonable prices and small selection of nibbles, hot food and drinks. Get a window seat if you can for lovely views of English Bay.

Simply the best reasonably priced hotel in Vancouver and it has great views of English Bay. Staying with kids? You need a family room, only a few dollars extra per day gets you much more space and one of the beds is in separate bedroom. Dogs ok. Parking garage on site (extra cost). Good food at the restaurant and a nice bar. Old building with lots of vintage style, but the beds are modern and super cozy.

Very nice cocktails in a great environment in a great location. English Bay is a wonderful part of town to explore as you head in or out of Stanley Park and if it just happens to rain for a minute you won't be disappointed to stop into Sylvia's for a few minutes of respite.

The Sylvia hotel is an excellent option for a straightforward Canadian breakfast in the West End of Vancouver adjacent to Stanley Park. The wood clad dining room has large open Windows peering directly over English bye. This adds a lovely aesthetic to any meal. Evening prices are relatively competitive and you will guarantee a quiet and intimate dinner. I suggest going for the joggers breakfast with soft poached eggs that are perfectly runny. Staff are friendly and service is no nonsense. Coffee isn't the main highlight here. The menu revolves around traditional eggs benedict with British Columbia twists including gorgeous salmon. #breakfast

I think the hotel itself is lovely and the staff was very helpful. But for the price and for my boyfriend and I we thought it was rather high for such a old hotel. Yes the view is lovely of English bay but the room and bathroom and restaurant & everything would be at a 3 star max.. it's nothing special actually kinda sad when you realize what could be done to the rooms.
We also had breakfast at the hotel which was a mistake. It was basic "holiday inn" style and seemed as if it was taken from a buffet line and served to us for a high price. Egg was cold, bacon was rock hard and crumbled to pieces and my boyfriends omelette looked as if it was cooked the night before same with the hashbrowns. I think they need to step in up in the breakfast department, and probably do some reno's- keep it old and Victorian but open the rooms up and windows up so it's a much more enjoyable view and stay.
They did however have really nice and helpful staff.
Great for going to stanley park.

Good Value meal. Had fish and chips excellent. Had a classic Negroni done right. The entertainment tonight was superb. Marla Torgerson has a ranging voice with Gordon Lightfoot qualities and a strong underlying feminist spirit. You can also catch her leading Vancouver free tours with the cityguys.
Bravo to Sylvia's for a great evening.

The Sylvia is one of the best hotels my girlfriend or I, have ever stayed at! The hotel is quaint, historical, clean and in the best location possible. The staff however, is what makes The Sylvia Hotel worth staying at. Nothing but friendly, professional and extra courteous people work here. From the wonderful front desk staff who greet you and assist all your needs, to the room service staff and cleaning crews - all wonderful people who have us coming back as often as possible. It feels like a second home with how much we enjoy ourselves when here. They even accommodate special requests for birthdays etc. (made my gf very happy). We wouldn t stay anywhere else unless we absolutely had to - and they even go out of their way to accommodate our random schedule and need for extra days on occasion when the hotel is nearly at capacity! Great value (the best value in Vancouver in our opinion), world class hospitality and the food is excellent too! I can t say enough about the hotel and it s crew of gems! Thanks guys!

Comfortable and clean rooms, beautiful rustic environment, delicious food, and a short walk from Stanley Park! And the parking isn't a hassle, which is always a plus. You definitely don't get a room in Vancouver these days for this cheap, or this level of quality! If we ever come back, we will without hesitation stay here again!

Lots of character and a great location. Room was comfortable albeit a little tiny. Some aspects dated but that's to be expected with the age of the building. Staff were very friendly. Ordered room service for breakfast - the French toast was outstanding. Cost of room was quite pricey for what it is but we were staying for a busy weekend.

For an overnight visit to Vancouver, the Sylvia is well situated for restaurants and beach walks/Stanley Park. The room was large and could use some updates but perfectly acceptable. The restaurant has an unbeatable view and great service.

Very underwhelming. Very overpriced especially for the quality of food you get. The girl who was helping us was the only redeeming aspect of the whole thing. But, at the end of the day you'd think that a hotel overlooking the ocean in English bay would be a lot more on their game. Also they didn't comp the plate that was untouched by the 1 of 2 children at the table. Never have I seen a 12 year old not like blueberry pancakes at all!? They have some work to do in my opinion.

Stayed here for one night. It is a lovely old, traditional type hotel (you get a proper key for your room, not another bit of plastic) but with modern comforts. The room was bright (large windows), well appointed and comfortable. The walk-in closet was of adequate size and there was other storage furniture in the room for anybody with the luggage for a longer stay.

The bathroom was newly renovated and offered all the necessities. Note, at the time of my stay (Feb 2020), the hotel was undertaking a major plumbing renovation and as a result not all rooms were available to guests. The hotel was very transparent about the work and we were not disturbed by any of the activity.

The food in the restaurant was good, although it seems to be a popular spot for breakfast so don't expect fastfood style timing. The restaurant area is very light and airy with great views across English Bay. Service was pleasant and friendly.

The hotel claims to be dog-friendly and it lives up to billing. Many 'pet-friendly' establishments could be better described as pet-tolerant. At the Sylvia my dog and I were greeted with a smile by all staff without fail, from room attendants to front desk staff. Health authority rules prohibit dogs in the restaurant but there was no problem with leaving my dog in the room while I ate. Room service is of course also an option.

The service at this hotel was excellent. The only downside during our stay was traffic noise from a nearby intersection. We had arrived late and it turned out that the windows were slightly open. That kept the room fresh but check the windows before sleeping if you are sensitive to noise.

Top tip: book directly with the hotel. They claim to offer the best rates if you book direct rather than through a reseller.

Amazing experience at this hotel. The rooms are very clean and welcoming and the staff were excellent. The history was very interesting. Although this hotel seems a little bit out of the way it's in a fantastic location right next to Stanley park.

Beautiful building, but super generic interior. Bar feels more like a chain hotel, with weird 90s best western upholstery. Staff are a little too friendly and easy going, ours dumped out his purse about going to another neighborhood bar for nightcaps...but the cocktails are made well if basic and expensive.
