Oh my goodness, I have stayed in quite a view lavish and luxury hotels. But for Houston you get some of those feels here at Hotel Icon. . It's over a hundred years old, they have kept to the originality as much as possible. The history behind this hotel isn't all that will stun you; the price will too. The staff was beyond nice, Sergio was marvelous. . He personally hand made the Christmas decorations! Go and be amazed
It's named the Icon for a reason for sure

Great location. Downtown Houston - walking distance to everything and amazing views. The property feels rather dated and let go than classic. Reasonably clean but the old amenities show age and wear. Understaffed so the services are a bit sketchy despite the valiant staff efforts - expect not having shampoos, towels and other small necessities after daily cleanup

As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I have stayed at several Marriott properties throughout the years. During my business trip this week I checked in to the Icon, love that they call their front desk staff tellers. Loved the historic beauty of the hotel but unfortunately not a fan of the roaches in my bathroom. The roaches freaked me out I call the front desk staff and they were very nice about calming me down, in fact nothing but professional. They offered to give me a new room but just the thought of staying in a hotel that has roaches was a no go for me. I can t say enough about the staff they were great they were able to move me to another Marriott property where I felt comfortable.

Hopefully the roaches will be checking out, never to return.

If I could rate the staff they would receive 5-stars but the roaches get 1-star...

Thank you front desk staff for all your professionalism,
RS

The hotel and staff were great. It's a beautiful building and has a really cool history, that they proudly display throughout the lobby. It's like taking a step back in time. The furniture in our room was quite stained and could use some reupholstering, and the street noise is very prominent. We knew the location so we expected the street noise. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 was due to the homeless population in the area. You can't take one step outside the hotel without being harassed by them. We did not have a car so walking was necessary and ALL DAY at every business we visited we were harassed. It was enough to convince me to never stay here again, which is unfortunate because the hotel is so nice. The last night of our stay was the worst and a homeless man got aggressive with us to where the hotel was forced to call the police and have him arrested. This city has a terrible problem that needs fixed before these businesses get run out of town. The hotel did offer us a voucher for our next stay but due to this problem we will not be back.

My wife and I still stay here once a year at some point for a romantic getaway even though we live in Houston. The bar in the lobby is just perfect. The staff is always friendly and the rooms are immaculate.

Staff is always super friendly, check in is smooth, and the rooms are cozy and close to my place of business. When the price is right (which does vary significantly depending on the day), this is my pick for staying downtown.

At 11:45 AM The Hotel Valet played us foul at this hotel parking lot. The man went ahead and proceeded to give us a horrible attitude when we asked for a spot, he told us the fee was 12 dollars before 2:30 Am.

As the four of us return to the parking lot at 2:11 am, I get in the car to get cash to pay in haste. The same valet charges us 20 dollars. We left earlier then expected due to a fatal family emergency and ended up paying 20 dollars, the man did not offer us change or a receipt. I know the hotel wont do anything about this....we have no proof that this happen through documents or any other means. But let this be a warning to any future visitors that yesterday, Saturday, March 16, 11:45 PM to Sunday, March 17, 2:11 am we were fouled played by this hotel's valet.

This is the first time I have ever received any sort of service to such a "great " hotel company, it has left a bad impression on me, my wife, our colleague and his brother.

We will all be leaving reviews on this matter in every website we can about this matter as a warning to all of us Houston citizens.

We choose Hotel Icon's restaurant, Line & Lariat, for a pre-symphony dinner. Soup and salad options were perfect for a filling but not heavy dinner. The service was excellent and the ambience is elegant but not stuffy. We even decided to come back after the symphony for dessert and coffee!

A very clean and nice hotel with plenty of places to walk to for food and drinks. I stayed here while in town for a wedding and I was very content with my stay. If there was one thing that was bad about this place it would be the elevator. The thing is slow and is hard to get to work with your room key. It also liked to close on you regardless of trying to hold the door for someone. Get that fixed and they would have a 5 star.

A one-of-a-kind, perfect for the Autogragh Collection. Large airy, well decorated, maintained rooms. Large showers. 1st floor lobby and bar is elegant. Love the art work and well-preserved impressive bank vault door behind the reception desk. Best of all...the entire staff from valets to desk to maids and cooks are very nice and friendly! Highly recommended!

Stayed here recently two nights for business. This is a part of the Marriott family but comes with a distinct character unlike most hotel chains. Convenient parking for a downtown location and they have a complimentary shuttle that I used to get back and forth from work. Good bar and dining room on site. They also had a nice fitness center that I took advantage of one evening. There seemed to be a lot of bar and restaurant options near by but I did not have time to explore. I did hear music from a band in my room first night but they were done by 9 or 10. There may be quieter rooms on other side of hotel for those with smaller children. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend!

We loved the layout and decor. Really enjoyed the history of the hotel. I did not like that we have to go to the bar for ice. However, we were able to call for ice and someone would gladly deliver. Guest services, valet and concierge were top notch. I left my makeup case in my car,, concierge gladly brought it to me. Valet was patient and moved my car to a place where I could organize our things. But Sergio!! Sergio was my favorite. After a night out, Sergio was able to recommend food options that would deliver late. He even sent them up to our room at our request. He was so helpful and bubbling with personality. Thank you for excellent service.

For what they claim, the hotel is completely sub par. Horrible customer service, absolutely no attention to detail, and just an overall lack or professionalism that you would expect from a higher end hotel. I asked for an early check in, the room was not ready. I took the elevator down to the lobby and wanted to order from the restaurant. The host told me to go back up to my room and order because the menu selection was greater, failing to mention I would be charged a "delivery fee." What would you know, they totally screwed up my order after repeating it to them 4 times. I asked for a set of spoons to be brought up because I bought ice cream earlier in the day, I was charged for that as well. Finally at check out, I paid for my stay in cash, only to find when I came home, my credit card had been charged anyway. Glad I kept the receipt. Very, very lack luster performance. I will not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone staying in the Houston area.

It was built out of an old bank so it has a nice 30/40s aesthetic. Parking and breakfast costs extra! Free WiFi and Ethernet. The room has a fridge, jacuzzi, and a nice view. Our towels and floor maps we're well used. Bed was okay.

This hotel is top of the line , the employees were very friendly and helpful, it was our 1 anniversary and they upgraded our room for no charge , the room was elegant and the bathroom room with the jetted tub was awesome, I would definitely stay there again, it was one of the best hotel experiences that I have had in a long time , the history of the building was very interesting and cool,

Charming old building with some serious livability issues. Yes it's a boutique hotel under the Marriott umbrella, however, a pervasive musty smell and water temperature issues will keep me from coming back.

With respect to the smell, the first sign waa a heavy perfume smell in the lobby and common areas. At first I thought it was just a person who had overdone it with their perfume causing the odor, but after staying at the property for three nights, I realized it was a deliberate attempt by the management to cover up the musty odor. Once you leave the public areas, you smell the musty odor in the hallways and in the room.

While I enjoy old and historic properties, $300 a night for a hotel room with an obvious odor problem is not acceptable.

My other major complaint is each day when I took a shower the temperature would go from lukewarm to scalding randomly without any interaction with the faucet.

Finally, on a number of occasions I would step into one of the two elevators and they were an obvious need of vacuuming. Not something acceptable at a 4-star hotel.

I have stayed here twice and loved the hotel both times, but I'm giving this a 2 star review because of the rude and incompetent employee that failed to make my reservation over the phone. I called because I had some questions about the rooms, and after waiting on the phone for 30 minutes they were still unable to book my reservation. The agent was dismissive and unresponsive and failed to connect me with his supervisor once I requested one. Do not call in to book a room here!

This historic gem in the heart of Downtown Houston...

This historic gem in the heart of Downtown Houston is a former bank and the original vault sits in the lobby of the hotel, talk about a welcoming wow factor! From the moment you arrive you feel immersed in historic nostalgia. The luxurious look and feel of the lobby, bar, and restaurant Line & Lariat make you feel like you've traveled to a 5 star hotel in New York City or even Paris. Once you ascend to your room in the original elevators you start to notice all the decor details. There's not a foot of decor, print, details left unimagined in this hotel. Even noticing the hand-shaped knobs that are on room doors as knockers put a smile on my face. The rooms are spacious and the staff was extremely friendly. Definitely recommend this hotel for a special event or even a stay-cation in Houston. Oh, and this review is mostly specific to the hotel but do not pass up the food & craft cocktails at Line & Lariat (even if you're not staying at the hotel). I have been back to the L&L bar a few times just for cocktails and have met for business lunches at Line & Lariat and to revisit my visit (pun intended).

Decided to give them another try after my first poor experience but this time was no better. Hotel needs to be renovated. I could hear the water from the room above me flowing down the pipes, loud AC unit, rooms can be smelly, never saw housekeeping in the hallway and had to call the front desk to get my room cleaned every time. Poor customer service. Fitness center definitely needs some updating. There are much better Marriott properties in the downtown area to choose from. You will be disappointed with Hotel Icon.

This hotel has troubling customer service problems related to the arrogance of the staff. I complained to the manager and he corrected an issue that I had. I stayed for 6 nights on a business trip. As I was leaving the valet wanted to argue with me. By the time I got to the airport he sent me an unsolicited note via Facebook to continue to argue with me. It was really creepy. Beware.

I stayed overnight on a Saturday. The location was great, centrally located in Downtown Houston with lots of great restaurants around in walking distance. I got the 1 bedroom junior suite, King and it was an amazing room! Very clean, very spacious and the bathtub was great! Very deep and very wide, it could fit me (5'10") comfortably with my legs almost fully stretched out. The service was great, quick, and the staff was very friendly. The only negative was that even on the 9th floor, we could hear people cheering and yelling outside as well as the metro rail. Overall, a 5/5 experience.

The pictures of the hotel lobby are deceiving it is a historic hotel with a poor ventilation, smells like mildew. The AC vent and filter in my room was dirty along with paint peeling from the ceiling and the walls, the water was not hot. I sent the GM an email, his reply was, he apologized and I hope your next stay with Marriott is better. He was ill-mannered uncourteous very unconcerned. It was an extremely poor experience. Poor customer relations I would not recommend this hotel unless they do some updating remodeling and maintenance to the boiler.
