Charming old building with some serious livability...

Charming old building with some serious livability issues. Yes it's a boutique hotel under the Marriott umbrella, however, a pervasive musty smell and water temperature issues will keep me from coming back.

With respect to the smell, the first sign waa a heavy perfume smell in the lobby and common areas. At first I thought it was just a person who had overdone it with their perfume causing the odor, but after staying at the property for three nights, I realized it was a deliberate attempt by the management to cover up the musty odor. Once you leave the public areas, you smell the musty odor in the hallways and in the room.

While I enjoy old and historic properties, $300 a night for a hotel room with an obvious odor problem is not acceptable.

My other major complaint is each day when I took a shower the temperature would go from lukewarm to scalding randomly without any interaction with the faucet.

Finally, on a number of occasions I would step into one of the two elevators and they were an obvious need of vacuuming. Not something acceptable at a 4-star hotel.
