Very nice cosy atmosphere, value for money right in the heart of manhatton, breakfast included in the rent. Feels international as many people staying in are from across the globe.

Amazing place they got me a last minute bed at 3 am they were life savers. I know where I m going from now on

Wonderful, affordable, clean and cozy place with great surroundings

I visited the USA in February and I stayed in this hostel twice (one night in a four bed room and a week later in a six bed room for two nights), as well as in two other HI hostels, in Washington DC and in Santa Monica. I m mostly positive about HI New York and in comparison with the other hostels I would put it on the 2nd place. In summation, everything is basic but sufficient and the price is sharp for its location.
The hygiene of the hostel was good, the sleeping rooms that I stayed in and shared spaces throughout the hostel were all clean.
The rooms were furbished basic but complete and the building itself is well maintained. In the four bed room the beds had curtains which offered a little more privacy. A downside of this room was that it was located next to a road and the isolation was limited so it was a little noisy. The six bed room didn t have that problem and fortunately the other guests were well mannered so I didn t have issues with them.
The hostel is nicely located in a more quiet area of Manhattan that is nonetheless close to some of the cities main attractions such as the central park and times square. There is also a subway station nearby, on approximately a 3 minute walking distance.
Breakfast was included and it was okay, I had a cup of coffee (a large cup of watery coffee, which Americans apparently like because all coffee I had in the USA was like that, but frankly I m not a fan) a bagel (which was a bit dry), and an apple.
I noticed that many visitors are individual travelers, mostly young people, that are visiting for different reasons and are often happy to talk to you. I didn t have real issues with any guests although there were some drunk asians screaming in the hallway around 4am when I went to the bathroom, which was a little annoying.
Outstanding was the tour to Chinatown, little Italy and some other parts of lower Manhattan organized by the hostel. The guide was knowledgeable and a skillful talker, and his story made me aware of the often fascinating history and meaning of places that I had otherwise never noticed.

They hosted an amazing video screening for border angels. Nice space - huge building

Just came by to pick up bus maps but staff is friendly helpful and a source of good information about local activities.

The staff is really nice and the amenities are great! The tours that they offer are good, specially the Jerry's New York tour, don't miss it!!

BEST NYC Inn, RAS! Place very well maintained (unlike others) and enough toilets and showers per floor. Very recommendable!

For a hostel, it s amazing. The staff are really nice, the rooms are clean enough and air conditioned, the food is pretty good, and it s convenient and close to the subway station and Broadway and Central Park in general. There is also a game room with a pool table. It s overall pretty good for a hostel.

It has a good, easy to find building and the lobby and cafe areas are very cool and modern, but the rooms themselves were not good at all and the shower areas were way too open

Very impressed with the cleanliness of everything: bathrooms, bedrooms, rec rooms etc. Staff were friendly too.

Great clean hostel... But there was an issue with the dates I was staying. I had to check in, then the next day check out, then check in again after 4pm. Kind of a pain, but they had storage lockers to store your stuff for $5 a day.
Other than that, everything was awesome. The tours they offered were amazing and they always had some activity during the night.
Overall very good experience.

Lovely clean room, highly recommend for your stay in NYC. Close to subway and lots of food options.

The location is good, inside Manhattan, north of Central Park
There are different common areas, my favorite outdoor terrace, good decoration and lighting with many spotlights.

It was my house for ten days. It was enough and I was happy for my roommate and kitchen. I suggest this place to each man, woman, couple. It has room for different types of needs. It's cheap and you could find people comes from all the world. I passed my best 10 days in NY. EATING, living, talking with people

Nice place to stay with groups or singles. Food available for all meals. They also have a pool table, patio space, charging station a theater and a kitchen. Very nice rooms as well. I enjoyed my stay.

Very affordable accommodation in New York City, however you have to share a room.

I have stayed at HI all over and this th best. Friendly staff.

It is the best hostel, has patio, wifi, common room, confectionery, pool table, bathrooms are spacious and clean, super friendly employees. They offer free walking tours and two days a week they meet in the courtyard. They also play bands. Very good atmosphere. And I'm really saying xq I stayed 2 weeks and I do not have a single complaint.

Very nice youth hostel. We stayed for a week with our two young children and it was very good. First floor fully accessible.

Hostel is clean and the service was good but to many peeple in one room makes it hard to sleep good .

If you go to New York alone here again! Clean and large in size, quick to respond to requests. There is a daily tour program which is good to use. The Brooklyn Sunset Tour is fully illuminated.

Not bad, I don't like hotels in general, it's a good compromise to consider

Excellent hostel !. The kitchen is huge and you have everything you need. The facilities and decoration of its interiors is excellent.
Many bathrooms and showers, in addition to clean. The location of this hostel I love because you have a metro station one block away and the area is quite safe and quiet. In addition, the tours they organize are widely recommended where you can make friends from different parts of the world. I would definitely go back to this hostel.

Excellent attention and predisposition. The rooms are comfortable and well prepared for the guests. They have a curtain for the beds. Chargers and individual lights.

Great location! Quick walk to central park and food just across the street. Rooms were clean bathrooms well maintained. Organized nights out were a great way to meet new friends!

I have been here several times and enjoyed everey time i could spend here.you meet so many People from all over the world, go out on many Pub crawls and seightseeing tours selfguided.Brilliant staff, nice building and a vivid neighborhood. Subway is only 2-3 min away and runs a day Long.If you stay more than 2 weeks a year in a HI-Hostel i suggest you get a Membership Card to apply to Discounts!!..and if you end up in a Problem...they will fix it!. Ergo :after 2 years staying here again, I am disappointed:before I start let me thank you the entire morning breakfast team... You are doing it with passion and the coffee plus egg bagel taste really good.

-cleaning rooms starts at 10am while checkout is 11am...why on Erath you do this? I want continuous sleep.
- premium rooms are located @ very very loud sections of the first floor
-mine hasn't been floor wiped/cleaned for a long time
-windows leak a great amount of cold air through it (R112) ... Get yourself a second thick blanket
... I hope HI Team is will to improve...
BTW. Your SOAP (BODY, HAIR, HANDS) IS INAPPROPRIATE

Stayed for two nights. It was definitely OK for the price. Rooms were clean and staff friendly. I bought the option which included breakfast, which was a rather boring experience, so I would probably rather have spent those money on breakfast somewhere else.

It is the best experience I ve got with a Hi Hostel by far and it seems to be one of the best in the chain as well. Lots of shared and open space, good and cheap food onsite, amenities are adequate and clean, very convenient location to get to the subway.

The hostel had alot of facilities, pool huge kitchen rooms were ok decpite the beds needed maintenance as it s very noisy , every one had locker everything was good BUT theres a notice that staff were not friendly AT ALL except one lady I think indian origin she was very sweet, the rest is like doing you a favor that you are staying in their hostel , the cafteria was way more expensive than outside price , you can get a bottle of water twice the price of the super market, also one more thing , theres a charge of 3 USD per night for anyone whos not a memeber in their membership at the time of check in and to become a member you need to pay 18 USD , and the benefits of being a member is that I don t need to pay the 3 USD per night which is very stupid honestly, no matter how good the hostel is and the facilities are as long as the staff having such attitude you well not be classified as a good hostel people have their vacation to enjoy and to see smiles

Great location, clean, safe, friendly! I recommend! Council, use the self service bike for your travels, easy to use and affordable, you will join the useful to the pleasant!

Bathrooms in excellent conditions.
Location nearby red line, literally a block.
Personal was kind and helpful, you can exchange money.
Dorms were clean ( 10 man ).
Maybe a little noisy at night but that's common in those places.
Good bar and a nice chill room.
Secure lockers work perfectly.

Great place for your short stay if you are on budget

Good place for people who love to Travel , place made understanding a traveller needs . Accessible generally in a Downtown, less expensive compacted , guided local walks, standup comedy , kitchen , party .....

Well, the hostel was nice, meet my expectations of a hi hostel. Staff was responsive location near the metro. However, around midnight I did hear several rounds of gun fire and the hostel is in next to several housing projects. That in itself is not a bad things but at times there is a correlation between housing projects and higher incidences of violence.
It was clean but the rooms had smelling carpet and the bed springs were not comfortable. They should replace the carpeting or shampoo it more perhaps it aggravated my asthma. Also when I got in a 2 am, the guy checking in next to me was offered shower shoes and I was not... how rude, I brought my own though as I do anywhere I go.

Great place. The bead was comfortable. The room was quiet. Only downside was the elevator; it was really slow.

For 1 first I am delighted the rooms are spacious and the bed 1 place is comfortable and each is equipped with 2 plug, WiFi is free and works very well, there are always outings or distractions as stand up proposed. the showers are unisex, clean. the metro line is at the end of the street and the area is alive with a multitude of bars and restaurants convenient to return from a good day of sightseeing. there are lockers to leave the bags on the day of departure be smart to enjoy the sofas in the lounges during this day often off. to do with friends. 1 lack of privacy for 1 couple but this is not what we are looking for here

The building is old, and it shows its age. The rooms are small. Many windows aren't closing properly so the noise at night is amazingly loud sometimes (it is like sleeping with open windows). They repainted the stairs and doors when we where there and everything stayed sticky to the feel. Its like the paint would not dry. Rooms and hallways smell very humid and not fresh. The air conditioning system was extremely loud and sometimes just too cold. So if we could we would sleep without it being on. Normally the sheets are cleaned after 4 days without asking for it = surprise nothing was changed and we needed to ask for it at the reception to get them changed. Some of the new sheets where not so clean and had hair in them. Showers are mostly OK, but sometimes they lack being cleaned properly. Some are good and others are just stinky. Water pressure is better at the 2nd floor then the 1st floor. Sometimes when the water collector is full the shower is flooding itself and then you need to change clothes in a puddle of water. At the end of our stay many items of other hostel guests where everywhere, shampoo, sponges, towels, socks, underpants, ... I don' t understand why you are not taking these things with you?? This hostel is big and when we where there it was full of young scouts, it felt like we where part of a scouts group. I was very pleased with the breakfast in the morning. We payed extra for it, but it was well worth the price. Fresh pancakes, eggs, sausage, muffins, fruit, juice, cornflakes, ... definitely recommend it. The reception makes no problem when asking for a new towel. A person at the reception even scared some loud guests away at night on the terrace that was right next to our room, thanks for that! The hostel also has some free tours, I did the central park and midtown tour and the PUB crawl. They are ok, but not overwhelming... I don' t really recommend them. For some you need to pay, maybe they are better... So overall not so impressed with this hostel, they definitely have some work to do if they want a higher score.

There is no control, and everyone can do what they want until morning

She arrived at 4 nights. Booked on the booking. I had to go on foot because of the repair of the tracks. The hostel said that my reservation was canceled unilaterally and that I should book again and come back later! Nightmare

Clean, neat, beautiful, good service, yummy food but not cheap to be a hostel. Well, it's NYC. Good way to get to know this hostel's chain in North America.

Very good service, the place is beautiful, has beautiful sites nearby and a spectacular view. Katiuska was our house keeping and we swallowed very well. This hostel is totally recommended by me.

Ideal for young people who want to visit New York. Location is great, because thanks to the good connections with the metro, everything is very accessible.

I really liked this place. I moved away from the seedy, digusting Candy Hostel and found this little gym not too far down the road on 103rd Street <3

Thats an amazing hostel, realy close to the subway, realy clean and with everything on track. Just the bed is not wellplaced on the room. Its on top of the air conditioning, so it gets realy cold during the night. The rest is perfect!

Kicked out of my room for someone else ... staff didn't care and had to wait till 4 pm to get another room ... unacceptable will not stay again and don't recommend

Good hostel, very well equipped. Many activities are offered. Can be a little big, there are really a lot of people. I recommend small dorms, which are much quieter than adults!

It was a great experience staying here. Everyone ranges from 17-25ish and they are really polite and accommodating. Only downside was housekeeping. I was in a rush to check out as check out is at 11am and the cleaning staff were in the lift and told me 'sorry you have to wait' I had to carry 25KG of luggage down 4 storeys and nearly got charged for a later checkout. Other than that everything else was brilliant.

Location is not very good and the staff was not friendly, sometimes even rude (I heard a guy yell at a guest). The rooms were pretty standard and bathrooms were clean. They had an outdoor patio which I liked.
