My family and I spent a few nights here at the beginning of May. Didn t see too much of the hostel since we were busy exploring the city, but the interactions we had with the staff were positive. We all had different reservations and needed to take a day off all of them and the front desk staff checking us in was super patient, it s been a while but I think his name was Austin? So, thanks, Austin (hopefully that s the right name!) and the rest of HI NYC team! :)
I love it, everything is always clean, and the atmosphere is calm.
Good clean rooms and nice helpful staff but a tad expensive for a hostel
Very well located and very large (several hundred beds!). Youth hostel that offers many services with a friendly and multilingual welcome. Some dormitories, however, would require better ventilation and more "amenities". Location often crowded with relative calm.
Good place to stay short term in NYC. They have good activities, good quality restrooms and showers, and they have events to show travelers and visitors NYC.
For a hostel, and certainly for the price, the facilities are clean and the beds are comfortable. That doesn't mean it's perfect. But, for example, there were no bugs, and at this price that's amazing for new york.
I'd stay here again. It's very convenient to the subway, sells adequate food, and the showers have soap canisters in them, with some stocked with Shampoo under the sinks.
I have been in a few hostels, but this one in particular seemed incredible to me. Very good services, good location, excellent cleaning, and activities very well. You can not miss Jerry's Tour, if you go and have the opportunity, do not miss it
If you are a student or traveling on a budget, I would highly recommend this hostel. Very close to public transportation. Free breakfast every day. They also have many planned activities available to visit the sights of the City. Very clean, especially the bathrooms. We were fortunate to stay in the penthouse apartment, and what a joy and special experience! (The penthouse is not available for private purchase, I believe.) The staff is very pleasant, especially considering how busy they are. Anyone considering staying in NYC, should check this place out!
Youth hostel very well located, close to metro, tours are organized. The cafeteria of the hostel is top so I highly recommend this place.
The team is great and the place is super well placed and super at the top of the decoration!
It is easy access. Many double bed per bedroom. Both gendles sleep In the same bedroom. They have a huge kitchen, they have refrigerator, it is nice place and familiar. It is beautiful. It is near placer that you could buy ready food or could buy things to make yourself. It is cheaper and good place to spend night.
Great friendly staff, great rooms, clean showers and WiFi everywhere! Nice place to stay in NY
Clean and accommodating. Great locale. The patio/courtyard was fabulous at night with a hammock and string lights. Very peaceful and quite. The cafe was super busy in the am, but they had a variety of options and the coffee was good. We stayed in an 8 person room and didn t have any problems. Beds weren t bad and linens were provided and cleanliness wasn t a concern. Free WiFi. The shower stalls were roomy and provided space to change clothes allowing for extra privacy. They provided shower shoes which was a great bonus if you forgot to pack yours. Take the stairs - the elevators are ridiculously slow. Great overall experience.
Booked a bed in the female dorm. It was clean and a nice place to stay for the night. The staff is very helpful.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating . They were very professional and both rooms were amazingly clean. Love this place and most definitely will be back
The place and the location are very good, but not the treatment of the staff in general.
I liked it, good price, very good quality and conditions but in Boston HI there is free of charge breakfast
Location: in midtown close to uptown and is not exciting . But very close to subway
Rooms: ok
Reasonably clean
Breakfast: good for hustle
I had the impression of HI hostel in LA which is very vibrant and nice. This was nothing like that. Dim, gloomy
Clean, well run. Good place to meet fellow travellers
Good place but no controls during night time. Been wake up form 6 drunk high US m0th3rfuk3r at 3 AM. One was shouting around the dormitory. Asked to change room and they did it.
Awesome hostel in NYC. If you are looking for a hostel thats social, fairly priced and nice staff this is it.
A hotel that conveys a philosophy of brewing people from all over the world.
Cheap, with dormitory formulas very suitable for summer camps, facilities that can take care of yourself (washing machines, iron, work room ...)
Excellent location. Accesible price. Friendly staff Clean facilities
Clean, great hostel with a good location. Be sure to join Jerry's Grand Tour !!! Best man ever.
Great location one block from subway station 103 and very close to Central Park. Biggest Hostel in NY, always full. Clean and safe. I could have more bathrooms the size of the Hostel. Negative point, there is only one elevator that when I was there spent almost all the time spoiled. But I would definitely go back.
Everything is so organized, clean and all staff were so great that I can't think of words good enough to express my self.
I spent a few days at this hostel. Subway lines (1 and C) nearby. Friendly welcome and efficient, they were able to inform me about the city and places to visit around. The rooms are clean and comfortable. A good price to be in Manhattan!
Very nice hostel 1 block from the metro, good service and ideal to go with friends!
Freezing the whole night, Room temperature was 60 for the whole night, technicians came to fix that, but nothing changed. The restrooms and bathrooms are not in the room, so you have to wait a long time for a shower and after that you'll freeze in their bathrooms.
The 1 star in just for the front desk.
I really enjoyed being there! Catering could have been better!
Nice place, great restrooms, good desk front, kitchen is well organized
Nearby Central Park, the subway and places to eat. Daily tours (only 10 dollars), BBQ parties, stand-up, pub crawls and much more. Easy to make new friends.
It's a great hostel. The location is great, closer to the metro but also a walking distance from central park. The staff is great, the cafe people are great and the food is good for the price. They have all sorts of activities and I can recommend the walking tours especially the one that takes you to the lower east side the tour guide, Phill, was great!
The place is clean, the bed was comfortable.
Excellent stay for a budget travel
Muy buen hostel.
Organizan actividades y no te podes perder los standup martes y domingos, son inmejorables!
Ni lo dudes, seguramente sea el mejor hostel de NYC.
If slightly expensive, it's a large hostel with significant common areas where there's always someone to talk to. About as conveniently located as any of them.
Fantastic place ! Had a flying trip into Manhattan in a heatwave too. Air con fabulous in my double room. Staff so friendly a great little cafe too. Well worth a visit
I volunteer here and they have lots of free or very cheap events for the guest and locals to attend.
Everything is Fine, but their mattresses are VERY hard, my back hurts .
This was my first experience in a hostel. It was better than I expected.
Good location near the subway and Central Park. Staff friendly and events that they put on were good!
Far surpassed my expectations. I was expecting a gross old hostel. The facility is very clean, cool and modern. The rooms are very clean and high tech. The bathrooms are also very clean.
My stay at this hostel was pretty cool. The bed is super good, the bath very hot and the breakfast well assorted. The staff is very friendly. The living areas are very nice, it has a super friendly patio. They make group tours, many of them free. I recommend it, because it meets exactly the proposal of the type of establishment.
Great, the rooms have bunk beds with new mattresses, there is a lot of life if you want to join the groups and activities they organize. There is a shared kitchen that is huge, a small kiosk where they sell food (a little expensive, but they are NY prices). If I go to NY again, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
This is not an European style hostel by any means of the word, but rather a very budget hotel. Very understaffed - no wonder poor administrators don't have any will or energy to even smile, forget about chatting! They are standing behind their desks like robots, constantly helping neverending lines of tourists. Not social. Location is nice. Their cafe is a little bit too pricey for what it is. Maybe selling some beers would help to cheer up the place a little bit.
Good but not perfect location, 2min walk to the underway (and then ~15 min to Times Sq). Helpful staff but still poor service. I had always to wait in a queue to talk with a receptionists. The "included breakfast" is a "lie" (it costs 3$), nothing special. Rooms with a lot of noise due to air-condition operation, also quite humid, and no option to open a window. The bathroom was quite clean and well maintained - was a good surprise/experience. Nice US aesthetic in the whole building in general. Over all overpriced option.
The hostel is very beautiful inside and is in a great location, very close to the subway.
This is the only official hostel in New York City that s part of Hosteling International. They do everything right here, and the only reason I didn t give it 5 stars is because the location is not in the city center (e.g., as the HI hostel in Chicago is). They provide programming for both activities in the building and for group walks/tours.
Excellent. Very clean. The bathrooms always clean. The showers take place to hang clothes and change inside. Has kitchen and dining room. One block from the subway
Pros:
- Great hostel atmosphere.
Cons:
- Extremely bad noise insulation, as if the whole place is made of cardboard partitions.
- They advertise as a not-for-profit organization, but the place was very pricey and not worth the money. If you are a group of people, airbnb should be a better deal.
- I stayed here for around 4 days. The aircon/heater in the room was not working at all and was getting very cold during nights.
No a huge amount of light in the dorms and there weren't many showers, but the facilities downstairs were great .
Everything about this hostel is cool, the staff, the location, rooms, toilets, bathrooms, I mean everything...
It is spacious, comfortable and with good treatment.
