The hostel offers a selection of walking tours, including their signature Grand Tour of New York with Jerry. The tour takes 14h and it is the mother of all city tours. Your energetic guide will show you around delivering diverse narrative along the way, covering New York trivia, deforestation, cultural exchange, global politics, African deserts and pretty much anything. Best tour I ever did.

Of the more than 20 hostel I was in, this is the b...
Of the more than 20 hostel I was in, this is the best one of all. Its location is excellent, its rooms acceptable and clean, its staff extremely friendly, its breakfasts abundant and rich, its installations of impeccable common spaces, large, modern, clean, with a kitchen that looks like a cheff. And I want to highlight the most original and beautiful of all because I do not know if others do it. On Mondays and Thursdays they organize a welcome party in which all guests are invited from 7 pm to 9 pm to go down to the main hall to put on a stiker on their clothes, noting their name and their country and they give you, if they give you, 2 free drinks (beer or gin), so you can be there and you can socialize with other people of your same language or country or whatever you want, then at 9pm that closes and you get a free tour! For different bars in the city the only thing you have to carry is your metrocard for the train that we all have if we go to New York because you are going to different bars in the city, I said bars not discs but they are excellent, you do not pay entrance only what you drink, maybe you are not the best bars but they are not the worst and you make too many friends at that time to go out the other days and go to the roof 203 for example on Friday to enjoy a few drinks in that great bar above a building with beautiful view. Well in short, it's a great experience for me at that hostel and it surpassed everyone I met in Europe, Argentina and the United States. I congratulate you. By the way is 3 blocks from the central park. One block from the Subway, it is metro 1 and a couple more from the C line, it is 5 blocks from where the bus line leaves you and where the bus line takes you to the Fiorelo la Guardia airport, the area It is quite safe. Manhattan is and is on the street Amsterdam same street where he lived Ted mozzby the one of "how I met your mother" as a curious and funny fact. Ha and have a McDonald supermarket and a couple of bars that deserve to know. You may find cheaper hostel in Brooklyn in fact there are, but the experience of this hostel does not compare to any.

If you want to go NY with limited budget. You will not be able to find better place than this hostel. Hardly 5 to 10 minutes travel for Manhattan. Even by walk you will reach in 30 minutes. Laundry, kitchen, theatre and games are available in the hostel. Highly recommended

Absolutely will not be booking this hotel again. I gave them my credit card information to book the room ahead of time. We called a week before the reservation to make sure that was enough and that another card or payment was not necessary. This was for a young family member traveling. Instead, I was up at midnight (1am her time) transferring money over to her card because they claimed a form now needed to be signed that they neglected to mention before. Pretty hard to sign a form halfway across the country. She even had her dad s card with her, but they wouldn t let her use it, even if she called and had him authorize it over the phone. I have stayed at numerous hotels under a parent s card and never had a problem with it.

A clean place, very well located (close to the subway and bus stop) and with lots of varieties of food to buy in the canteen. But you have to pay $ 3 per night more if you are not a partner (I have not understood this so far, but I have paid). Anyway ... I will be back, because it is cost effective (cheap) and NYC is very beautiful to explore.

I normally stay in hotels in New York City, but the HI hostel was such a pleasant surprise! We loved our stay. It s super clean and the atmosphere is great. It felt like a nice college experience. We met people from a dozen countries at one of the gatherings downstairs and had so much fun!
Why stay in a hotel when you can experience something so unique?

Clean, good amenities and nice events. Their location is perfect! A block away from the subway and a walking distance to many cafes, restaurants and shops.
Everything is nice.
Everything is nice.
The staff are all nice There r so many activities for people to join. The elevator is quite slow but it s ok for me.
The lockers downstairs are very big(cost $5 per day).I can put my 29 luggage in it(there r different sizes)
The restroom is good. They provide shower gel,u don t need to bring it yourself.
The room is quite humidity, and the air conditioner is noisy. I don t like it at all.
But I will still give it 5 stars
Because the hostel has so many rooms for any type,...
Because the hostel has so many rooms for any type, the room you got might be affecting your experince to this hostel. I stayed in 8-bed female dorm in first floor (117). Thanks God, it's good (because I read some review from the guests before, and it could hit or miss). The room I got was clean and has enough space. There's curtain for each bed. Electrical plug and usb port in each bed. Body size mirror and big locker were inside the room. And here's more good things about this hostel
Pros:
- The building looks cool and consider as landmark.
- Safe neighborhood.
- Close to subway, restaurants, and supermarket.
- Big kitchen with all equipments.
- It has big communal area including living room, dining room, gaming room, theater room, and pation to chill out.
- Towel and bodywash were provided (dispensered)
- Shared bathrooms were relatively clean
- Informative staff.
- A lot of activities everyday
Though it has many good qualities, I couldn't really enjoy my stay because it's noisy inside the hostel. Every part of this hostel was full of people during my stay. Apparently HI Hostel NYC is so popular among tourist and visitor, so it has a lot of guests including group of student/school club. The other things that I didn't like:
- Elevator was slow, better to take stairs unless going with luggages
- AC in my room was very noisy. I had to turn it off during the night to have good sleep
- Need to give a sign in toilet for not flushing used toilet paper in toilet bowl
- Staff didn't give a hostel tour, so bit lost inside the hostel on my first day.
- I understand about room safety with key card, but it's uncomfortabel to bring it everytime visiting toilet which is shared outside the room. I forgot to bring it once, and I had to ask receptionist to give me another key.
- Althought the hostel is in Manhattan, but it bit far from most main NY attractions
- We all know that New York is expensive, but with $4/night additional fee and $5 luggage storage after stay, Ouch, it hurts me!
However, I still reccomend this hostel to everyone who visit New York City for the first time
This hostel provided an excellent place for me to ...
This hostel provided an excellent place for me to stay at an economical price. I stayed overnight on June 20, 2018 while visiting New York City alone.
I stayed in the male six bed premium dorm for $62. This is a great bargain compared to New York City hotel rates. And my stay in the six bed premium dorm included free shower shoes and a free light breakfast of three items (cereal or muffin, a piece of fruit, and coffee or tea).
I arrived probably about 8 or 9 p.m. and check-in went smoothly. A male restroom was near my room. And it had enough showers and toilets that there was no problem with waiting. The restrooms were clean and well maintained, too.
I took a shower that evening, and the water temperature was good and easy to adjust. I would have preferred a bit more water pressure, but the water pressure was consistent and sufficient. The shower stall had a bench to put ones clothes, keys, wallet, etc., on while showering and a lock on the door. A hair dryer was available in the bathroom, too.
The room I stayed in was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the window offered a view of the neighborhood. Each of the six beds in the room also has a nice sized free locker. The locker in the room was large enough to accommodate my backpack, camera case, and some other items. I brought my own lock, but they sell locks for between 3 and 4 dollars.
Even larger lockers are available for rent on the lower level of the hostel that are probably large enough to accommodate most suitcases. I'm not sure how many of those there are, and I didn't need to use one.
The window air conditioning unit in the room either did not work well or the thermostat was set inaccurately. But when I arrived a supplemental air conditioning unit was on the floor running at high speed and keeping the room at a comfortable temperature.
The supplemental unit was very noisy, however. When I went to bed about 11 or 11:15 p.m., I turned it down with the permission of the other person who was there. The remaining four of my five roommates came in after I was in bed. But they were reasonably quiet, and I slept reasonably well.
I only spoke briefly with my five roommates in the evening and/or the next morning. But all seemed to be nice, friendly persons.
I hope to make a future visit sometime and stay for a few days or a week. The hostel offers a variety of activities, including tours of New York City, and I hope to take advantage of those on a future visit.
The hostel's cafe is open until 11 p.m. And after I arrived I enjoyed a veggie burger (about $6.25 including tax). The morning of my departure I enjoyed oatmeal and a banana as a free light breakfast and purchased an orange juice (about $2.50). There is also a deli/grocery across the street from the hostel that is apparently open 24 hours a day. A Dunkin' Donuts, Papa John's Pizza, and other restaurants are also nearby.
Behind the hostel there is a patio area with tables and chairs and a small amount of greenspace that hostel visitors can use. I only walked briefly through it, but several visitors seemed to be enjoying fellowshipping there. The neighborhood may or may not be safe for late at night, but I felt reasonably safe near the hostel around 10 p.m.
I rode the #1 Subway train to and from the hostel. This Subway route has a stop on Broadway only one block from the hostel which is on Amsterdam. The Subway runs 24 hours a day and during most of the day runs every few minutes.
I urge visitors to New York City traveling alone on a budget to consider staying at the hostel. I was impressed and hope to stay there again on a future visit.

Youth hostel
Well located, in the heart of the Upper West Side, close to Central Park and line 1 and 3 to go south of Manhattan.
The real +: lots of activities (neighborhood guides, nights at the Hostel, comedy show, magician show)
The rooms are ok and clean.
The sound of snoring can be annoying, there are rooms of 12. However all the rooms are not like that.
Showers are classic without extravagance
Pros:
Pros:
-easy to get anywhere
-right in between riverside park and Central Park
-beautiful architecture
-the amenities are great. They have a ton of common spaces and a beautiful garden out back.
-the beds are comfy and you get sheets, towels, and a personal outlet in your bunk.
-the staff is super friendly and always polite.
-the 6 bedroom dorms are really clean and fresh
-affordable
-excellent bathroom and shower facilities
-lockers are big enough for a carry on suitcase plus some
Cons:
-the 12 bedroom dorms smell like feet and feel a little stale.

I'm rating this hotel of five based on Decor, cleanliness, and value for your money. It is a hostile, so you can expect the drawbacks of a typical dorm type atmosphere. Since the location was really good location, I suggest you go across the street to the convenience store and pick up some Febreze. The only real complaint I have is that there was a constant musky smell in the room. Very similar to the typical smells of New York City. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. The cafe was superb. The Continental breakfast was well above average. There were a lot of communal spaces to hang out. The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean as well. We never had a problem getting in and out for a shower since we took showers in the evening. If you are an early riser you can take a shower in the morning. But I found that the showers really get crowded between 8:30 and 9 a.m.
Some important tips for you if you're traveling with a minor. You must have a photocopy of the minors birth certificate. I did not find this information to be clear on the website. If you are booking through a third-party, make sure that it is One Singular reservation. Orbitz made me book two reservations for two people since you booked by the bed, this almost caused us to be in separate rooms.

I've stayed here annually with my university student organization for 3 years, and I am very impressed with all the improvements made! Hot breakfast, neat restrooms, and cool atmosphere. Love love love HI NYC. Great rooms, well kept, quiet (even with a class of middle schoolers on your floor). Bathrooms are some of the best I've seen in a hostel. The cafe downstairs is dirt cheap with good food. You're only a block away from the subway and 20 minutes from Times Square.
