On my 2nd day at the hostel and so far service is phenominal staff is very accomodating
Nice place, I guess cheap for New York. We got I think 14 people room but there was no one else besides us in the room. Clean sheets, locker (need your own lock), free towels. Might be bit more comfortable with few more bathrooms.
Really cool hostel, great vibe and excellent staff! The guys in the food service were GREAT! For a hostel so busy everything was run very smoothly. Were also able to buy Yankees tickets too which was a great help!
Best one in NYC. I've stayed in many HI , I'm pretty damn HI
Nice place to stay, but the personnel wasn't very friendly
Not bad, the traffic is very convenient.
Walk about 2 minutes from the nearest subway.
Even dragging big luggage is not bad. As for the subway, you need to take a step. There is an elevator in YH, so you don't need to squat up and down.
It is very convenient to have a subway transfer to various attractions.
HI New York was my first hostel experience, and they've set the bar high. Friendly, comfortable, quiet and very well maintained. Thanks for the pleasant experience!
The crew was really rude when I checked in. They told me that the room was ready and it was not at all it smells awful, when I told them about it they said, well, just like college . Very dissapointed with this hostel. I strongly NOT RECOMMEND IT
Probably the best Hostel experience in NYC. I was never much a fan of the "big" hostels, but this is done well, in a beautiful building and MUCH needed in The City. I wish the prices were comparable to other global cities; London, Paris, Roma, Madrid, etc.. but I guess that's just the cost of NYC.
Best place to stay in NYC on a budget. Apart from the extremely comfortable beds, rooms and bathrooms, they organise activities like tours and comedy nights. The neighbourhood is also quite good to explore. The subway station is hardly 2 minutes away.
My stay was the maximum very good attention and the facilities are super comfortable I would like to return some day again.
The hostel is great but I think the price is a bit high. For nothing pay the "included breakfast" is garbage. What I loved most were the showers. Friendly and attentive staff 24 hrs. If I would go back
Great hostel close to subway. Great food selection in the cafe and plenty of areas to chill. Clean and modern facilities.
Friendly, but slightly incompetent staff. Booked "premium" dorm, that was not really premium, bathroom shower wasn't ensuite.
Free breakfast is included which is nice.
Need to bring your own lock for locker.
Great and friendly workers who are alway eager to help.
Standard rooms have about 8 bunk beds in the room and have a large dorm-like bathroom per sex. Amenities are plentiful including cafe but you're better off heading to stores and restaurants nearby for a better experience. Most of the staff are nice, helpful people. Dont fall for the "free breakfast" ad, you have to have a premium room. A/C wasn't very warm throughout the night. Keycard required to enter beyond lobby. Super close to metro stations for easy access around town. Area is not the greatest looking safety wise but never had any problems. Good stay overall but be cautious of the guided tour with the older guy(local). His price is cheap but he pulls a fast one on you by losing you in crowds. The hostel plays along by saying he "doesn't have a phone".
Great place to stay near transport links. The facilities are good, the bagkes were blooming brilliant I could have eaten them all day and the staff helpful. You sort of know what you're getting with a hostel but it wasn't ideal for me to have people coming and going so much
Perfect place! Great location !!! I will be back soon.
It is a good location about 30 minutes by train to Times sq. I think it is a large hostel with 4 floors. It is convenient because a lounge and cafes and vending machines are also attached widely. There is also a drinking fountain and you can use it if you have a bottle, so it was convenient ^ _ ^ There is a large locker in the room, but you have to carry the key yourself. It seemed that you could buy it for about $ 3.75 at the reception. The kitchen was large and clean, with an oven and range. There was only one hair dryer in the toilet and shower room. There was also Rally. There is a large locker in the basement floor and you can deposit for $ 5 after check out. (I could use both cards and cash) And there was a bath towel. I think it is not something that will change every day, but bath towels were appreciated! It was a very good hostel overall ^ _ ^
Is really friendly place to meet many people I meet my best friend here I recommend
Very nice. I enjoyed being at New York City Hostel. Is convinced and enjoyable place. Thanks for asking.
Was somewhat disappointed, booked a mixed room for four. They replied men only, I replied, that I will take the men via email. The moment I arrived only a 6 men dorm was available. Got a price reduction of 2 $ per night, hmmm. But the rest was OK, small breakfast included and close to several subway lines. If you like strolling, walk through the central park to Manhattan, it's lengthy but worth it.
Love this hostel its staff, location and cleanliness great base for central park and great diners around here will go back room was great size and locker fitted full size suitcase in in room.. we received flip flops and towels for the rooms and the kitchen is amazing! Also lots of charging ports and free wi-fi brilliant
Beds and bathrooms good. But not being able to drink at the hostel is the heck!
Good dorms, canteen and nice staff. Many fun activities too!
It was my first hostel experience.
The bathrooms could be a little better, but since it's a hostel it's alright.
Very good location. Close to the central park, and a subway station.
They do not hold mail addressed to resident.
Called hostel to make sure they will hold mail before I send it, woman told me they do hold.
Sent express letter size mail on fri 06.07
Sat 06.08 mail was returned due to no resident present.
Resident had reservation for 06.10
Just fyi
Nice place. Upper West Side location. A good distance away from Time Square but the subway is right there and you can be there in no time. I preferred staying at the hostel located in time square the nights before because of the location, but Hostelling International (HI) did a great job once again. This is the 5th HI hostel that I have stayed in. I only stayed one night at this location on Sept 20th-21st, 2013) I reserved a couple weeks ahead of time. During check in, I asked them how full the hostel was and they told me they only had one bed left. Huge building with high ceilings and big rooms. The bathrooms were really nice and new looking. The breakfast/kitchen area was nice and had plug ins to sit and plug in your phone or computer and enjoy breakfast. They sold a large varity of items during breakfast and you also get a choice for the free breakfast. I had a donut and glass of milk to help sooth my birthday hangover from the night before. Upper West Side is a fun area. Alot of different bars and restaurants in the area thou you may need to walk a little bit because they seemed somewhat scattered. The hostel itself was enjoyable and close to Central Park. (I walked all the way from Time Square, thru the park, to this hostel within a few hours.) I would suggest first time NYC visitors to stay in upper west side for a night or two and then venture down to one of the other many hostels located in lower manhattan/time square areas.
Either way I would recommend this hostel to anyone. Thank You HI for being such a great organization!
I was in this hostel at the end of July. The bed room smelled like hell. You had the feeling you were breathing in a spoiled salami. The smell in the corridors and in the hall smelled greasy and stale. Apart from a strong air conditioning machine, there was no fresh air. The toilets and showers are hardly cleaned. I watched a "cleaner" deal with an unappetizing toilet bowl. He simply flushed. He didn't use a cleaning agent or a toilet brush like EVERYONE in his household would. Showering and sleeping was not hygienic at all. I would never go there again. Just because it has its own cafeteria and things look good, the hostel doesn't meet the standards compared to San Francisco, for example. The next time I'm in New York, I'd rather spend more money on my lodging than going through that hole.
Great place to stay, close to the metro and they have a lot of activities for free.
It was my first time in a Hostel, I liked it, the infra is very good, laundry, snack bar, stand-up comedy, tours. Rooms have cabinets for an average suitcase (take your padlock or buy one at the concierge). It is close to the subway and 2 blocks from central park.
I had been on other hostels and will say Hi NYC has a great stuff, is super clean and well maintain for a hostel
Amazing place, have lot of group activities/parties if you don't have friend's in NY
As hostels go you couldn't get better. You will find some awesome gem people among other interesting types, but the place is clean, organised and well run. If you are looking for a bed to crash in at the end of the day with out the frills try it. (4 person female, premium shared).
What I like is that it's located close to the station and some shops and restaurants and the hostel has a variety of facilities like elevators, laundry, kitchen, tv, reading room, etc.
What I wish it had was free breakfast and more bathrooms as each level would have a disproportionate number of bathrooms for each gender (2 female, 1 male or 2 male, 1 female). But overall I'm pretty happy with the place.
This hostel has everything you might need! It's in a really good spot (5min from the subway, 10 minutes walk from Central Park) the room and bathroom were clean and the breakfast included really good. They've got a little restaurant, a small cinema screen, lots of common rooms to hang out! Really nice spot. It is incredibly big though! Very crowded at times.
I have never actually stayed here but I have been here several times for events and performances. I have lived in NYC and been to many places all over the city and I can truly say there is no place like Hi NYC. Not only is it clean, and easily accessible, but the staff is always so kind and accommodating. And most importantly, they do so much work for the community. They host open mics, workshops, conferences and lectures to help educate younger audiences as well as give platforms to diverse talents. It just seems like they really want to make a difference. There are so many cool indoor/outdoor spaces to meet people and relax and the cafe downstairs has UNBELIEVABLE sandwiches. I would go just to eat there.
An okay and huge hostel. Still too expensive for the quality of the area nearby. Also not recommended for people who want any kind of privacy as there will be people who will try to hook up with you if they think you look interesting.
This is by far the biggest hostel that I know of in NYC. While I have never stayed there myself, I live in the area and have met many people who did stay there. I have heard its clean, safe, and very affordably priced (by NY standards, at least). Mostly students and young singles travelling on a budget.
Cheap but comfortable stay rooms are beds in groups of 10 so must be comfortable in big groups the staff are friendly and helpful
The localization is very nice and the people from the hostel are very friendly. I really recommend that.
Clean, modern bathrooms. Facilities are excellent with complete kitchen, theatre, lounge, eating space and great cafe. Very happy with my visit and plan on returning.
Below standard hostel experience. Location is nice. The air conditioner in our room was broken and they couldn't be bothered to fix it - the entire room smelled unpleasant. Their line was always busy and you couldn't never get through, even though they claimed that their front desk people were always there. Well, maybe I'm just unlucky.
Nice, clean hostel with friendly travellers and free breakfast. The beds can be a bit squeaky, so bear that in mind if you're a light sleeper.
They are clean. All staffs are so nice.
Just won't forget my last day in New York suffering from toe nail injury.. BYE!
BEEN COMING HERE FOR MANY YEARS.
VERY CONVENIENT TO GET AROUND.
I LOVE NYC.
I was here last November, and the place is awesome! the people there is very friendly and everybody there is willing to help you with everything!
It's the best place to stay in NYC!!
A bit far from downtown, but there are 2 metro lines nearby (1 and A,C). Full of young travelers, plenty of indoor stuff to do: theatre, pool, pc room, and plenty of other spaces for people to hangout, perfect when is snowing/raining outside
Only did work here but was told that only student's can stay here not public. Otherwise it a nice place and excellent staff
Nice and very clean, good little cafe with a wide selection, very nice social areas and big lockers in the rooms to lock in your entire suitcase or backpacks
Top-rated youth hostel for a very affordable stay in the heart of New York
Clean rooms and bathrooms. A lot of rats outside of the building like everywhere in NYC.
Food is good too
Location of the Hostel is wonderful, everything close by, to go by bike or bike (it has a CitiBike stand around the corner) to anywhere, the hostel's snack bar is great, lots of fresh and tasty things. Room was good, could have a little better lighting, however it was well-maintained, clean and always maintained bathrooms, great events venue, muuuuitas attractions offered by the hostel. Loved it and would definitely stay again.
Cool! Great locations! Nice people!
Beds, showers, living room and kitchen are really comfortable.
Affordable! I felt like the value for the price was unbeatable. Service was helpful and friendly. Close to subway. Close to Hudson River. One block and you're on Broadway!
Please put more great food you guys are just making me loveing it :)
Great place to stay. Fabulous and very helpful staff.
For a hostel, it was perfect (for a hostel, it was perfect)!
The common parts are new and recently rinnovated. My room was very old.
Best choice in NY. Great to meet people, close to the subway and Central Park. Very clean with a nice cafe downstair. I recommend Jerry's Grand Tour and the Pub Crawls organized by Paul. Great times there!
Good hostel but it is a bit expensive for the location.
Excellent facilities and location, just 1 block from the subway. Good atmosphere and variety of activities scheduled for each day!
For what you get its pricey, but I guess that's New York. Mix up on arrival too gave a bit of hassle but ok overall.
nice rooms and bathroms. excellent and helpful crew. well located close to the sub and central park
From the welcoming staff to everything else was outstanding. First time staying at a Hostel and won t be my last. I Won t think twice before booking again here for my next visit to NYC, also looking forward to trying the other HI hostels around the country.
Each night has a different activity or outing. People are very nice.
excellent location, very friendly crew and next to the subway...perfect
Good location with aceasso easy to the metro. Excellent food and at a fair price in the hostel.
First time in NYC and first time staying in this hostel and I met so many friends yesterday!!! The volunteer staff had a welcome party, then we went to pub crawl where I met more friends. Breakfast is not free, but it's very affordable for international travelers. I recommend you guys get a 7 days unlimited ride and split and share the cost with someone. If you're solo traveling, I recommend you book the 10 room so you can meet more people
Hi New York City Hostel is an amazing place, located just a minute away from 103 Street subway station. The environment inside and outside the vicinity is very good. Then rooms are clean, beds done, sheets changed and clean always. The stuff is amazing, friendly and ready to help. I would totally recommend them to anyone
