The London Metropole Hotel aims to be an upscale, four-star hotel providing boatloads of services, is an easy walk to a subway, but lacks room quality in what seems to be a sketchy part of the city.

Most tourist locations are about 15-20 minute tube ride away and the Edgeware road station is conveniently located about 50m away from either entrance, but there are multiple little things wrong with the rooms that would make me think twice about staying here again.

Upon arrival, my party and I were greeted by a desk clerk with a very thick Spanish or Italian accent that made it very difficult to understand what he was saying.

After checking in we walked to our respective rooms. First my card didn't work, and the doors have the most annoying card swipe position, we said outside for about 20 minutes in what felt to me like an 80s cruise ship motif. If the hotel followed the themes of their beautiful bar/lobby, this would be a five-star hotel.

The room is nice, a bit of damage here and there that could be fixed, but the bathroom is very strange. The tub is lifted about 8" off the ground which makes it a huge step to get in, then the shower head is at a fixed height/angle, and there is no curtain. Instead a glass half wall runs about a 1/3 of the length of the tub with an inch of space left at the bottom, so you have a nice pond waiting for you on the floor when you get out.

Two members of my party had a worse experience. They had opened their room to find it unmade, smelled like cigarettes, and looked like it was already someone's room. They went back downstairs and they were able to change their room, but that kind of thing is something that surprised me with a name like Hilton.

So overall, it was a bed to sleep on, but it wasn't worth the cost, and it would've been better if more attention to details were spent.

We had not a great experience when we checked in, however Mr. Shadi, hotel manager, did all he could to put things right, we had a nice stay and well looked after, the 4 star mainly for the staff who wasn't able (or shall I say wouldn't bother?) to put things right

Well, it's conveniently located, that's for sure. The hotel itself is a veritable labyrinth, if you're attending an event. Some of the rooms are ok (west wing), but some of the rooms in the east tower are in very bad shape. Make sure to ask for a west tower room when you check in.

It is a gigantic hotel. The reception and the ground floor are modern but we stayed in the west wing and the rooms, although they were fine maybe are a little dated. They have family rooms, at least of up to 5 people. Breakfast is buffet style and is very good. If you have to print your travel tickets you have a computer and 24h printer available and it is in a very good area.

OK hotel for the money. But bed not particularly comfortable, shower leaking, hairdryer not working and had to change rooms as the first one allocated to me already someone in there! Wouldn't be my first choice of hotel in London.

First room smelled horrible like mold. We complained and they gave us a new room. The part I don't like is they knew the room smelled and still place people in it. The front desk said they had a water problem a while back and we in the process of renovating the rooms that flooded.

Attended a conference here - great location for a meeting or conference. If you are visiting as a tourist, it is not the best location - but you get what you pay for. Hotel is put together like several hotels in one, with variable decor and room quality depending on where your room is located. Bottom line for me is that this is more of a business hotel than tourist spot.

The only positive for this hotel is it s location. The room is very dated and not a pleasant place to be. The reception area is crazy with long queues throughout the day. Worst Hilton I ve ever stayed at.

The rooms are unfortunately in need of renovation. They do not meet the standard expected of a Hilton hotel. Not necessarily worth the price. The connection to the public transport is very good! The bar offers a lot of choice (especially beer) and leaves nothing to be desired.

It's a Hilton, so you should know what to expect. Comfortable rooms that are fairly bright (which seems to be unusual these days). Breakfast can get very busy at peak times, so you may have to wait a minute or two to be seated, and they can sometimes run out of items.

The worst Hilton I've stayed at in over 30 years of business travel. Check in was slow and the agent confused about how to use the system. The room was horrendous. The mattress was a board, and no amount of requesting a pad or new mattress had any effect on the staff "it's just the way it is". The mini fridge didn't work, and they 'have no spares' when asked for a working one. The TV had 4 working channels, no pay TV, channel guide, etc.. The maintenance man said the systems didn't work and there was nothing he could do. Aircon was either the Sahara or North pole, nothing in the middle and only the maintenance man could change it. The sink ran HOT (ever tried brushing your teeth with hot water?) regardless of which way the faucet was turned and there was a light hanging from the ceiling that took two days to fix. Staff just didn't care about fixing anything or guest service. Won't be back to this hotel again and strongly recommend you find another hotel nearby.

This may have been luxurious once, but now it is worn and old. Pretty much everything in my room requires a refurbishment. Not going to stay at this hotel again, despite it being very handy for Edgware Road tube.

Location isn't on the best side of town but at least very close to tube access. Reception was easy and staff friendly. Waiting for elevators to get up to the rooms was agonisingly slow most times and someone was sick in one and it had an odour so strong in it that we nearly added to it, no idea how long that was like that for. The room itself was quite old and very basic, basin was blocked but didn't use it more than twice so wasn't too much of an issue but considering the price of the room and expectations of the brand, it felt very out of place. The bath was also grubby and in some spots black and dirty, mostly where one would stand in the shower. The counter top surrounding the basin was full of oily smears. The bed itself was awful, the mattress was well overdue to be replaced and was extremely uncomfortable, pillows were the only element of sleep that was comfortable. View from the room wasn't good at all and the TVs image/signal was rubbish, again this was too much of an issue as you spend most of your time away from the room though all things considered being Hilton, you expect more than what you could get by going to a simple 3 star rated accommodation for significantly cheaper. Worst experience from a Hilton hotel thus far, and won't be using the Metropole hotel again.

I'm a Diamond Hilton member and I frequent this particular property a lot. They stopped serving omelettes and poached eggs. Hard boiled eggs are never cooked enough, espresso is horrible. Hotel is over populated and this may be contributing to the lack of care. I recently booked a stay for 11 days and I had a confirmation number. When I arrived they told me that my reservation was cancelled by someone but not them and that they could not accommodate me and let me to fend for myself, no help at all. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me he could do NOTHING for me and told me to leave. This is very shocking since I'm a Diamond member for over 6 years and yet treated as a first time customer looking for a handout.

Disapointing because the air conditioning did not work and was a very uncomfortable sleep in our room, had to ask continually to get something done. In the end they turned it off and we slept with the window open. 27deg in a room not good.

Awful! Yucky, old, rooms in disrepair. First night waited until almost midnight for a cot we requested and had to keep calling reception for hours to get. Second day room was never serviced, when we complained and asked to have it cleaned their response was everyone s gone for the day , again had to wait hours, after numerous calls, just to get clean towels.

Breakfast was good, lots of choice, please oil was small and too packed to be relaxing, had a room with an adjoining door and got woken up by the people in the next room at 2:40 in the morning.

Great location, near Paddington Station and Edgware Road tube station but I feel the hotel lacks personality. Rooms are ok but on the small side. Some floors are renovated so I'd request for one of those when booking. I don't like the bar and coffee areas in the lobby. Feels like school cafeteria - Hilton could have done that better. I've always felt that staff service was great. Very friendly and helpful. Can't say anything about the restaurant - This hotel is so central and there are plenty of restaurants in the nearby area.

Nice business hotel. Walking distance from Paddington train station which has the Heathrow express train that can take you to Heathrow airport in 20 minutes. Also, its right by Edgware road underground station.

Ambience was pleasant, close to shops and restaurants, Halal food available nearby, M&S is just across the building.

Getting to the rooms at West Tower was quite a walk from the reception, no toothbrush/toothpaste, razor, comb, provided.

Tired old hotel that s been updated but needs another. It s adequate but nothing special. I d have given 3 stars but the mattresses are hard as bricks and the service was a bit slow (especially when I had a security concern).

Strange looking building from the outside, but very nice inside. I was attending a conference and was not staying at the hotel, however the conference facilities were very good and had friendly staff

This hotel should be ashamed to call itself a Hilton.

My wife and I spent our anniversary week at this location. I picked it because of the mostly positive feedback and the proximity to certain areas.

The bed was a king size...however, the mattress was so worn out that it felt like a pull out sofa mattress. The TV worked on occasion. The AC DID NOT WORK AT ALL.. The room service food is over-priced and bland. Yes, you get a fridge...but you have a pay a nightly surcharge to use it....this hotel will nickel and dime you for everything.

I called customer service 4 separate times to advise them of the AC and TV issues.

I was informed they knew the AC was out and they would fix it...the next night I requested a separate room and she said oh it will be fixed soon...they blew me off the third and fourth times.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this hotel...there are far better locations available for the price.

Room was booked on the assumption it would be like Hiltons I've stayed in around the world... However it was just a normal room, nice and clean but nothing special compared to other places... Only thing nice is the first two floors and even the swimming pool (which was a reason as to why it was booked) was closed which was disappointing. Location is nice on edgeware road next to some good places to eat and local Waitrose close by.

The hotel is well managed, staff is helpful. Some rooms are starting to show signs of age, but are clean. The location is quite convenient, very well communicated to the main train stations via tube.

A blogger says that West Dong is a renewal town. It seems that the expensive place is upgraded. It's West and tied to the QUEEN SUPERIOR ROOM, but it's very old. There are 2 large beds but no refrigerator in the room and no ice maker in the hallway. Even if the ice maker condition did not want to eat. The bathroom curtains are old and so are the toilets. There is a TV but remote control is not working. In particular, free water will not be filled, so be sure to check it out at check-in. There is also gas, so ask for sparkling if you want. And if you ask for water every day, you're angry that you don't give it every day, only when you check in. Watch out for the mustache staff shouting No everyday. Just go to the m & s in front of the hotel and buy half a pound. The cups I drank cranberry tea when cleaning the room seemed to be rinsed with water and spilled over again. In general, transportation is good because there is not much for money.

At first glance, the hotel makes a very good impression.
The family rooms are well and appropriately furnished and big enough.
TV programs unfortunately only in English or Russian.
Bathroom big enough, all bathroom items available.
The rooms and bathrooms, however, show the approx. 20 years, carpet smells slightly musty when entering the room, bathroom looks a bit shabby.
However, the hotel staff made up for a large part of the lack of room.
Very courteous, polite and friendly!
