Grand Constantia Winery, a 400-year-old store in South Africa. Sooner or later, the temperature difference in South Africa is large and the soil is poor. It is said to be suitable for grapes to absorb tannins from the soil. The Governor of the Netherlands was founded in 1683 because he loved drinking red wine during the East India Company's colonial South Africa. Now it is a non-profit organization run by the South African government. Grand Constantine Winery has nine kinds of soils with different qualities and grows nine kinds of grapes with different flavors. Although it belongs to the new century winery, it still inherits the old European brewing process. In 1987, the state government was taken back by the South African government. The restaurant in the winery offers wine tasting, you can taste the wine of the Governor who commemorates the construction of the winery, and the purchase of sweet white wine with Napoleon and his lover, this limited edition does not provide wine tasting.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, take you through a journey on a landmark estate in South Africa's history. World renowned wines on offer to purchase at reasonable prices, or to be enjoyed with superb food at the local eateries on the estate. Well worth the visit. Being the one of the oldest farms in the Cape and positioned in the lovely area of Constantia, one is spoilt for choice on activities available. 2017 Chardonnay is an absolute winner. Explore the farm, visit the museum and choose a love restaurant to grab a meal. Entrenched in South African history.

I ve been here multiple times. Beautiful old winery with multiple venues and places to visit within the estate. The first building is a tasting room. If you proceed further in you get to the different restaurants and sitting areas. Very beautiful, large green open spaces , classical dutch architecture. Top wine farm in this area, a must see!

Located in the suburb of Cape Town, 20 km from the Center, it is surrounded by beautiful mountains and large fields full of vineyards, countryside atmosphere of an inland city. Tour recommended for those with a tight itinerary and do not want to give up trying the great South African wines, as there are other famous wine regions such as Franschhoek and Stellenbosch that are more than 60 km away and demand more time to visit.

It is the oldest winery in South Africa, dating from 1685 and considered heritage listed by the Western Cape Province. It is part of the scenic route of Constancia Wines and has several mansions, restaurants, vineyards and a museum with a focus on rural slavery and the lives of slaves in the early period of the Cape colony.

Took the tour which was only somewhat interesting
but I was surprised that they offered only a few wines
to sample. No real tour of the growing areas,
ie the vines themselves which in other places they are
usually very proud of.
The restaurant. Simon's was closed for some reason.

It amazing. Such a fantastic experience of wine testing. Have a tour of wine yards and the grapes ground. Delicious wine and foods are available. can be spent lovely time with honey wine. Staff is very friendly.

My Wife and I just had lunch at Jonkershuis and came down to Groot Constantia to make a wine order to ship back to the U.K. Both of us have been to Groot Constantia before and were really excited about the wine, especially after drinking the Sauvignon Blanc with lunch.

Unfortunately we were greeted (or not greeted) by a lady called Lauren on the main desk who honestly could not have been more sullen or unwelcoming. I totally understand that sometimes people may be having a bad day or are not enjoying work but this was borderline humorous. She barely made any eye contact before huffing her way through taking our payment for a small tasting. I don't know if it was because we weren't a part of a tour but I was really taken aback by the lack of care or even basic manners we were shown.

While the members of staff serving the wine were in better spirits, although not as helpful as we remembered, it left a bitter taste in our mouths. We are celebrating our honeymoon and wanted to buy some incredible wine (and the wine here is definitely amazing) to celebrate and remember it by but we couldn't. There is no way that I was happy to place an order after that being welcomed like that. We will try Klein Constantia tomorrow and it will be interesting to find out the difference.

It is our favourite place,we visit very often enjoy walking up to the barh, visiting the ducks in their pond between the manor house and theold wine cellar and finish off with a drink under the oaks always a hit !

This estate is beautiful and worth to put on your to-do list for Cape Town. Groot Constantia is one of the stop on the Red Bus Tour, so make sure to drop there and save at least one hour to explore the vineyards and feed the ducks. This place is very peaceful and relaxing. I did a little exploring and discovered the Constantia Bath while walking along the garden. Alone or with your friends, you should definitely visit this place!

Wine tasting experience ranks amongst the best experience I have ever had and most importantly - I made a lot new friends. I guess, with the magic of wine anything is possible.

Taking all in the picturesque Constantia Valley was an inspiring treat.

It's a beautiful farm and wine estate. Since it is one of the closest estates to Cape Town and because of its history it is also one of the more pricey estates one can visit. Didn't buy any wine, so not sure what it's like.

The wine tasting was wonderful. We chose the chocolate and wine pairing. Although we prefered the wine without the chocolate most of the time. Our host explained the wines well and was able to answer all of our questions. We particularly loved the Chardonnay and the Constantia Rood. The staff were very friendly. It was a lovely experience. Groot Constantia is beautiful. I would highly recommend a walk around on their tourist route after your wine tasting. They have a beautiful view of the ocean closer to the restaurants.

One of the oldest winery in Cape Town. We took the hop on hop off bus that dropped us off at the entrance of the winery. You can visit the winery, the garden and the place was built couple of hundred years ago. They gave us two complimentary wine glass. Also lots of choices in terms of buying wine. A great place to visit if you like wine tour

Extraordinary place surrounded by nature. The oldest winery in South Africa, queen of the winelands.
Great food and relaxation guaranteed between one tasting and another. Unique wines able to compete with European excellence.

One of the former top wines but especially top location. Very beautiful buildings. Guided tours possible, food and drink on site and especially wine tasting and buying. This wine also has a beautiful past for those who want to delve into the South African wine history.

If you can, don't go to the wine tasting on top. It's loud, not comfortable due to the lack of stairs, and all inside. Waiters seem overwhelmed by a group of 15, even though we booked. Also, they don't mention that buying the glass is not mandatory for tasting, which would reduce the price from R75 to R55.

Only downside about this wine farm is that you're always going to walk away having bought a bottle or two of wine. The Pinotage and the Cape Ruby are personal favourites. Hope on the wine tour bus from La Parada and enjoy the scenery, the wines and the sun. Great day outting for a weekend.

We didn't get a chance to do the wine tasting, but ate in the Jonkershuis restaurant, which was lovely and had a walk around the grounds and in the museum. The grounds are just perfect for a post lunch stroll.

It's a beautiful place! We unfortunately did not get to tour the vineyards and the grounds as it was raining. But our experience, alone, of the wine tasting was absolutely splendid. Such friendly staff and the food at the restaurant is unforgettable. Great exclusive wines too! I'll definitely be coming back to this gem of a place on my next trip to CPT!

Worst winery we have visited in 6 years! Expensive winetasting. Hardly any information about the wine, it was only processed! Only look at water with strange things on demand. Wine just average. Was the first winery where we didn't buy wine. I don't have to have it again. One probably scores here with the location. First attempt for newbies

Preferred the tasting at the Production Cellar over the tasting near the entrance of the estate.
The tasting near the entrance was not a great experience, everyone has their noses turned up as if they are looking down on the guests - not a nice vibe or atmosphere at all. Do not recommend it.
Did the chocolate and wine tasting with a tour at the Production Cellar, some pairings were great and others were terrible (we left some of the chocolates uneaten). The tour was ok, a lot of people, somewhat interesting.
The grounds are beautiful and the restaurants on the grounds are good.

Great

One of the most popular estates in the Cape for tourists and locals alike.

The estate is huuuggee. For some reason I'd imagined it would be omunye phez' ko munye ~(chest to chest)~ with tourists but not really. The only place that gets just a little crowded is the tasting area, which is housed in one of the museums. Most people there aren't interested in the museum though; they're just there to be the guzzlers they are and chug down as much wine as possible. To each their own...

Being the stickler for history that I am, I drank and went for a stroll in the museum. I appreciated the historical frankness of the information at the museum and how they did not shy away from acknowledging that the place was built off the backs of slaves.

There are several restaurants and about 2 or 3 museums on the estate. So plenty to learn and number of options when it comes to wine and dining.

I can imagine how I would have loved my experience even more, had the company I was with not been a pain in the rear-end.

Had heard about Groot Constantia. I new it was well known and sought after place to visit. It is the oldest wine estate in South Africa. (Founded in 1685) The Gardens are tranquil. I sat at Simon's for a cup of coffee with my students. It was lovely there. The warm winter sun spilled all over the grounds. One can sense the history and one can enjoy the present moment. Definitely worth visiting!

I really enjoyed having spent on this farm, which is the oldest wine producing place in South Africa. The wines are very good and you can taste several winery titles and they give you the goblet at the end. It's a good place for you to buy some wine to remember and some fine ones as well.

Great experience eating at the restaurant. Epic views and tranquility. Did not do the wine tasting, but I did buy some great wines. The lovely lady at the counter assisted me with a sample of their excellent Pinotage. Can't wait to go back and do the wine tour.

The place was of particular interest to me due to a poem I did in primary school. It was fascinating to put a picture and history to something that was only imagined before. It has stunning views of mountains and vineyards. It is very peaceful, gives one a feeling of being close to nature.
