I went here for a wine and chocolate tasting! Ever...
I went here for a wine and chocolate tasting! Everything was delicious and the grounds were beautiful.
I went here for a wine and chocolate tasting! Everything was delicious and the grounds were beautiful.
The oldest winery in all of South Africa, a place surrounded by incredible nature, beautiful vineyards, mountains in the background and general peace of mind.
Good restaurant and good tasting of 5 wines in the cellar, you can also go around the cellar, the staff is very kind and makes us travel through time to the present day.
They are also organized with expeditions for those who must take the plane if I remember correctly.
PS they also have a fortified wine famous for being Napoleon Bonaparte's favorite
It was an average stop at an average Winery, nothing special for me.
Absolutely beautiful landscape, top notch and affordable wine selection, delicious food, especially the desserts! You can tour the cellars and old farmhouse, enjoy a lovely lunch - especially great during the warmer seasons - and the drive from either side of town is beautiful. Highly, highly recommend.
Im not really into wine, however I did enjoy the chocolate. The environment is just amazing .
The wine tasting has become to commercial. We entered and waited a while. No one approached us to assist. After calling someone over, they just explained that we will be assisted and walked away. After a while we again walked add asked for help. Made our payment for the wine tasting and was pointed to another counter where we waited again. After a while we were assisted. We did not feel welcomed at the place.
Groot Constantia is one of the most sought after wineries by Cape Town tourists and one of the most traditional in the city, with more than 300 years old. The winery has historic buildings, a restaurant and beautiful views. Attentive and patient attendants, pleasant place and easy access. The tastings start at 80 Rands (a little more than 20 reais in the price of 13/02/18). In the tour for the production of the winery, the whole process is explained, from the grape harvest to the bottling and after that, the tasting is done where we can taste each type with the opportunity to buy the most pleasant bottles, in addition to receiving the glass of the tasting of memory. Groot Constantia is a great place to visit on your trip to Cape Town or during your wineries safaris.
Lovely Experience. Awesome Wine and The oldest wine farm in Cape Town. A must have experience.
This was such a wonderful experience and a huge spoil for my family. We did a wine tasting then had a delicious lunch at jonkershuis and had a walk all over the farm admiring the trees and views in the sunshine. Deep and 4ich with history you can feel it in the air and see it in the architecture and expansive grounds. Definitely a must-see wine farm. Booking for jonkerhuis is essential because you won't get a table without one. Especially if you want to sit outside.
Beautiful outdoor setting, delicious meals. service was a little slow.
Beautiful winery! The wine tasting was nice, with some very good wines for a great price. You can taste 5 different wines (generously poured) for R90. The Simon's restaurant was a nice option for lunch, they served a very decent pasta dish for R120.
Fantastic wine! A must go if you enjoy a great glass of wine. And such a great atmosphere!
on the 24 December 2016, I took my guests from Mauritius to this venue, from the time we arrived the experience was awful-there was a lady dressed in a Christmas costume who was continuously telling her colleague "we closing in 30 minutes - its cut off "- repeatedly..I left it I didn't say anything, until she did it again and again, right there in front of the patrons, then the same lady starts talking to the lady who was pouring our wine about how rude another patron was to her they were having their own conversation while pouring our wine ..so unprofessional the place was packed. Needless to say I tld her that her behaviour was unprofessional and that repeatedly telling her colleague that we closing using her voice and her hands gesturing "cut off" was really distasteful..she responded with an attitude telling me that she was not rude .. her whole demeanour was unprofessional and disappointing..
Then myself and my husband decides to move away from that counter and to go to the other side where Xoliswa was working.. WOW, were we in for a shocker, this guy was so rude shouting "we closing everyone get done with the tasting WE CLOSING at the top of his voice filled with aggression, when we asked to taste the wine we were given a huge attitude at the top of his voice, "wheres your paper, no tasting without paper", I responded what paper - he says "no paper no tasting, I said the other lady never asked us for the paper, we didn't know what he was talking about - we received glasses with a pack of biscuits in it, no paper. He refused to help us.. I told him I thought he was rude and out of line and he just laughed at me..he behaved like he was intoxicated, minutes later, from a distance I see two "white ladies" going to the counter - he poured their wine, no questions asked, with a big smile..my guests also witnessed this as they were sitting on the bench next to the counter...they were horrified and asked if we could just leave.
I was on my way out when 3 gentleman came up to me and mentioned that they heard me confronting Xoliswa and thanked me because they too were treated badly and shouted at that they were also just leaving.
This experience was bad and embarrassing, Xoliswa eventually came to apologise, which was a little too late - one of my guests who was an elderly woman was so shocked at his behaviour that she gave him a mouthful-which was well deserved.
There were other staff standing around, they said nothing..I am an Indian woman, my guests are Indian from Mauritius, the 3 gentleman that came up to me were men of colour... I am not a racist, but I sure as hell felt discriminated upon at this venue-I am in the tourism industry and I tell you, I was horrified. NEVER WILL I RECOMMEND OR RETURN TO THIS VENUE.
There are a lot of tourists who are constantly flowing. The chocolates tasted at the expense of wine and wine tasting are specially formulated to match the designated wines. Can try it~
We stopped here while touring with the Red Bus. Excellent cellar tour and wine/chocolate pairing. Beautiful location.
Great red wine, especially the Pinotage. Who can should do a wine tasting and get to know the wines. Unfortunately, I can not recommend the tour even if our guide did a great job. Everything rather modern and little original charm when visiting the holy place. There is also an audio guide as an alternative. The winery is very spacious and beautiful. A hop on / off bus stops too. We did not see crowds during our visit. If you visit cape town and like wine, you can not miss the oldest vineyard in the Cape. Worth a lot!
The experience of Groot Constantia will be another journey to explore the long trail of humans added to the natural beauty of South Africa. If you are visiting the oldest Constantia wineries and vineyards in South Africa, do not skip the tour program which will be a truly meaningful experience. After hearing about how the various grapes grow in the Route-Constan ia and how they will eventually become the most precious and quality wines in the world, you will be able to see and re-see the wine you are tasting. If the weather helps, blue vineyards like heaven and sunny high skies will tell you that you made a good choice. The signature wine that Napoleon drank was excluded from your list of tasting lists, but I was able to taste it because the lucky god made me smile. Of course, it's in a cool wood box, one in each of my hands, heading to Korea with me. This place presented me with an unforgettable joyful and fragrant memory. I can not help loving the Root Konstantia.
This is one of the most beautiful wine farms in South Africa. You should surely add it to your list of favorite places to visit. Wine is delicious, you can have a guided tour. There are 2 restaurants to choose from, and the views are absolutely beautiful.
I visited this place as part of my Red Bus Tour. I really enjoyed the wine tasting. There s a lovely variety of wines to choose from and t all tastes lovely! The staff is great on providing information about the wines. We took a walk around the farm, it s beautiful! I enjoyed it and would like to go again to refresh my memory
I absolutely loved the whole wine and chocolate tasting, experience with my family. Groot Constantia is an amazing place.
My favorite wine was the Groot Constantia Sauvignon Blanc and my favorite chocolate was the White Lime and Apricot Chocolate.
I m definitely visiting the place again!!! Thank you to sis Noxolo for the outstanding wine tasting explanations. My family and I had fun.
Such a picturesque wine estate, offering a great wine tasting with attentive staff. There are two restaurants on the premises - exploring the estate and visiting one of them is a must.
Great staff and fantastic location to relax and have one of the finest wines Groot Constantia has to offer!!!
So many wonderful people to help and educate me! The property is gorgeous and the wines are delightful!
Exceptional service and great wines. Try the Cape Ruby, exquisite!
In 1679 Simon van der Stel was appointed by the Dutch East India Company to govern the Cape of Good Hope. After years of loyal service, he requested land from the Company. He periodically sent out riders to collect soil samples. In 1685 he chose 891 morgen (about 763 ha) situated behind Table Mountain for its wine-growing potential and magnificent scenery. Over the years the wines produced on the estate caught the attention of influential people across the globe clearly due to its impressive quality. Global aristocracy made sure that they had enough stock of this acclaimed and precious product.
Our founder named his farm "Constantia" after the Latin word for constancy or steadfastness. These attributes he valued greatly and today we follow in his footsteps to uphold his enduring legacy of perfection at Groot Constantia.
The Groot Constantia
Wine Estate is the
oldest wine-producing
farm in South Africa
Took a tour of the winery, which was just average. But the tasting afterwards was lovely. Generous pours. Delicious wine. The entire grounds here are lovely. If it hadn't been raining, I would have loved exploring a bit more.
Nice place to enjoy a nice bobotie with a good glass of wine and then to walk on the vast domain.
Jonkerskhus restaurant provided an ambient Cape Dutch setting for our visit. Delicious menu, world class wines and good service.
Brilliant wines but the time was lacking to visit the domain in a decent way
Beautiful estate. Very clean, green and tranquil.
Variety of activities. The wine tasting was mediocre. Good wines. Relatively cheap, for a wine tasting, in Contantia.
Parking is almost always readily available.
We had a pretty terrible experience at Groot Constantia's Jonkershuis restaurant (featuring spoiled juice... yuck!) -- but a GREAT wine tasting experience at the Cloete Cellar thanks to Victor, as well as an incredibly informative production cellar tour! During the wine tasting, Victor patiently explained our options to us and answered all our questions; this definitely made our day after our awful experience at the Jonkershuis restaurant. We'd return to Groot Constantia.
Unfortunately we came close to closing time and couldn't get to know the winery, but we tasted ten very good wines. The cheapest wine costs R109, and we win gift glasses
Great wine, awesome tasting options and fantastic staff!
heritage wine estate, tasting and wine tour is done right. we bought a set of rose
The tour and wine tasting at Groot Constantia is nothing short of a treat. An informative, knowledgeable guide took us on a tour of their fascinating wine making facilities. The wine tasting afterwards gives our a wide range to pick from and one gets to taste quite a few too. The people helping there are also very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine.
Great wine, great views, 2 great restaurants and museum - a must for anyone visiting Cape Town.
Having started my Cape Town life living almost next to Groot Constantia Estate and staying connected with them over the years, I'm always looking forward to my next visit. Equally, I'm always recommending clients, colleagues, friends and family to visit them.
My visit on Heritage Day (24SEP18) was no less exciting and my brother from Johannesburg was thrilled in being able to spend time at this sprawling estate. As always, the hosting and the wine tasting was exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the vast green lawns.
Lovely vineyard, beautiful views, with stunning old Dutch colonial buildings.
It was my first time going to this place and it was better than what i expected. If you really just want to get in some exercise by walking you will have an abundance of grounds to cover and inside the estate! You can take the Red Bus which is cool (you can buy tickets on the bus) or if you just want to have a cool lunch it is stunning overlooking the vineyards. If you like you can even have some quiet time just having a picnic on the open grass area, its really really nice.
They have a great paired wine and chocolate tasting
Enjoyed the winery tour and the wine and chocolate pairing. Wines are a bit pricey though
Visited The Groot Constantia Wine Estate today.
The oldest wine-producing farm in South Africa.
They also offer Yoga on the lawns
Terribly commercialized through and through. Terrifying how many people sat there for wine tasting at the same time. We immediately turned around and drove again. Staff was very busy and rude.
Oldest wine estate in South Africa and their vintage shows it. Breathtaking grounds and the restaurant there is definitely worth a visit.
Excellent meal in beautiful surroundings with great service.
Great location and natural decor and probably the best flapjacks I've had ever!
Beautiful facility for drinking and eating, prepared and friendly staff, day to repeat.
No real coffee options for someone wanting coffee. Staff however went out of their way to get some coffee
Being nice by giving 3 stars. The wine & chocolate tasting is an absolute disaster that doesn't deserve 1 star. The wine seems good, but the chocolate is so sweet and the flavors -- particularly a disgusting "cherry blossom chocolate" -- so weird and strong that after the first bite everything turns into KitKat bars on your tongue.
I did a wine/ice cream pairing and a wine/nougat pairing at other vinyards and they were brilliant. The chocolate pairing is a debacle, and a reputable winery would have noticed this by now.
The red wine produced here tastes very good, the guidance over the estate and the explanations to its production process as well as to the history of the enterprise were very exciting. I would definitely recommend a trip here - especially for wine lovers.
Try drinking is recommended, the attitude by people, the amount of liquor entered is totally different
Mass produced, service not so great and we really didn't enjoy the wines. Would only recommend going for the history
I loved groot constantia, absolutely lovely wine estate. I recommend that you do the chocolate wine tasting, which include the wine cellar tour and entrance to the museum... And chocolate off course!!
The wine is excellent
The views are magnificent and the personnel are professional and friendly
The wines are good but the customer service is terrible... if you are not physically there. Phoned to order 54 bottles of R 175 wine, then I get directed to a rude sales consultant who would rather deal with her face to face customers than answer my simple questions. Decided to order the bulk of the wines from another wine estate but wanted to order the special Gold selection for one of our Directors. I send an online enquiry and get nothing. If you want to order wines, best to go there yourself if you want to get any kind of service out of them.
Loved the wine tour and wine tasting experience. The hosts were gracious and made us feel right at home. This is certainly one for the bucket list.
If you are a wine lover you need to stop here a do a wine tasting.
I love visiting this great estate with its amazing history. Definitely a must visit location when in Cape Town.
Excellent estate. Good wine tasting and freedom to explore the grounds an added bonus
Beautiful and unforgettable place, great wines, tasting, visit to the factory, history of the place.
What a lovely day we had there! This place is really beautiful even if just to walk around and enjoy a glass of wine on the bistro.
We had lunch sitting outside at Simon's and enjoyed the setting, the meal, the wine and the service.
We then did the winery visit and tasting which were also really nice. Super recommended!
Amazing place to spend some time for a nice wine tasting. In the middle of a wonderful area in the nature of South Africa you will find some excellent food and wine. The old colonial buildings make it even more special. Go for a visit.
Beautiful winery but too much of an uppity crowd for my liking.
Excellent service. Friendly staff. Stunning setting.
Nice winery very close to Cape Town. Atmosphere good.
Jonkerhuis - best T-Bone steak I have ever had! Great food, great service and great wine
Totally beautiful! A relaxing experience and a stunning scenery. I totally enjoyed the wine tasting, the tour and the pasta at the restaurant was the ultimate send off. Would love to visit again.
One of the oldest wineries in Cape Town Groot Constantia. Beautiful ... although it s everywhere like that.
The history of their consumers is rich)
Signature dessert wine is very decent.
A beautiful spot for wine tastings for tourists and locals alike.
Good tour in here! Have a taste for these good wine! And the Steak is awesome!
Oldest wine producing farm in South Africa, popular amongst tourists so busy. Had a better more authentic experience in the smaller ones like Fairview
Enjoyed the scenic walks, kids enjoyed the wide open spaces... didn't try the wine tasting.
Simon's is the restaurant of choice...
This is a lovely tranquil place to walk. Dogs are welcome but need to be on a lead and unlike a lot of other places, this rule seems generally to be adhered to.
It is very pretty here too.
Victor made our wine tasting experience the best I have had. He was so knowledgeable and easy going. Loved the wine and generous pours. Will definitely return.
You can try various wines for a very nice price. I really liked the place is beautiful. And the wines are great.
My husband called, made arrangements for 5. My mom turned 83yrs and we thought well celebrate with you. Thanks to our waiter Eric and management that made her day. Will be back soon for a picnic. Cheers
