We came from a smaller city and this zoo seemed huge to us. We only got through about one third. The afternoons are so hot and the animals are less active so I'd definitely agree that it's best to get out there as early as possible.

I like that many of the exhibits have an indoor and an outdoor component, so if the animals are inside or sleeping, you can still see them.

I also like reading the back stories of the animals whom many were hurt or rescued from captivity. Otherwise it's a little sad to see large cats or big animals in small enclosures.

I really appreciated also how many zoo staff were around with educational materials and answers to questions. Far more than I've seen at any other zoo.

I didn't buy any food or drinks so can't comment on those.

Great zoo! Well layed out, very kid friendly. Lots of shade and places to sit. We have a membership and go at least 10 times a year. You can do it in like 2.5 hours but can also spend all day no problem.

Awesome place to go, literally in the middle of the city! The day was hot but the zoo was a great time! It s bigger than you might think. Plan for at least a half-day, as there s plenty to see and do. Fist time I ve ever seen Cape Buffalo and a Cassowary! This zoo has animal shows daily as well as a decent aquarium! Go and enjoy. You won t be disappointed. Did I mention they have Dole Whips? Oh yes....

It was a fun zoo! We went on a day when it was 95 degrees out. The animals were all searching for the shade, and after hitting a few areas, we were too! Bring sunscreen on days like that, because you are outside away from cover for most of the time. All of their animals seemed happy and had good sized pens. Also, the people working the zoo were happy to share their knowledge with you. Talk to them! I think they get bored standing around all day not talking to anyone.

Definitely worth the 13 dollars for 1 adult ticket.

Meh, this place is decent. It really depends what level of zoo you re accustomed to, or what your other options are. If you come in the winter, there are not as many animals out. But if you don t have much else to do, hit this place up.

From what I ve researched, they seem to take great care of their animals and don t acquire them in sketchy ways, but I am concerned some of the enclosures are too small. I have written about this before and not heard back. Would love to know why some of the animals have such tight space! As much as I like this place, I have decided to stop going until the zoo can provide a good reason as to why their leopards are in small cages or how they plan to improve this. Its a shame - I do love the events they put on, the Christmas lights are AMAZING

Visited the zoo while on vacation and I was a little disappointed. A couple of the exhibits were empty and most of the animals couldn t be seen as they moved to the back of the exhibits to rest. I don t recommend coming 2-3 hours before they close or else all the animals will already be put away.

Nice to walk around before it gets too hot. But it seemed like a lot of the animals were still sleeping or not out. I get it, that can't be controlled. And as always, parking is horrible.

Tiny enclosures! Some animals are running loose among the public unsupervised, leaving them open to harassment by mean spirited children (and adults), my family didn't enjoy our trip to this zoo at all. I would recommend The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, or Serenity Spring Wildlife Center. They are all excellent options near Denver for anyone interested in seeing wild animals in a more natural (and humane) setting AND know that the admission fee goes to the animals! It is well worth the trip. I've been to some zoos that seem to genuinely care about the animals and their quality of life (most notably the Portland OR. Zoo who have huge enclosures), Denver is NOT one of those types of zoos. They make little to no effort to replicate natural habitats here. They just continue adding new animals and tiny enclosures instead of giving the existing animals decent enclosures and quality of life. The animals are pacing, nervous, and depressed in many cases. You're better off not supporting businesses like them, they truly are just a business, not a place who loves their animals.

All of these animals should be rehomed into wildlife conservatories.. poor things.. it's great for kids/whomever to be able to see so many animals up close and in one place but that is not the right way to experience them. Those animals are not happy and are not free. They wouldn't be living like that if they had a choice. Elephants as a whole refuse to reproduce when they're in captivity because they don't want their babies to be born without their natural habitats and freedom.. I don't blame them, that's amazing theyre able to be that aware and self controlled. Zoos as a whole just should not exist

fun

They are doing their best under the current circumstances. They have most of the inside stuff blocked off and everything is one way. Masks are required inside the zoo at all times unless you are sitting down and eating. Employees are always very nice and try to answer your questions as best as they can.

Love the new set up even after all the COVID concerns that patrons may wonder about before revisiting the zoo. It seems that Denver Zoo has figured out a very fool proof system to help provide guests with the same wonderful Denver Zoo experience! Safe, smart, easy to follow foot paths, mandatory masks. Minus one visitor without a mask. Everything was very well regulated and smooth sailing. Had a great visit today!

So first off, paid a pricey 40$ to get in and I wouldn't be upset about the price except for the fact that 90% of the animals weren't even out. Dragged 3 kids to the zoo today and we maybe saw a totally of 10 animals. Very disappointing. Then as I'm walking the kids down to the parking garage 3 employees are down there smoking pot instead of sweeping the parking garage right in front of the kids. I would prefer my babies not inhaling your weed smoke. Hands down will not he back. Taking them to Cheyenne mountain zoo from now on because the experience and zoo are way nicer. Denver zoo is a major Rip off, piling hundreds of people in there to see empty exhibits.

It's a great opportunity to learn more about animals and conservation while seeing animals most people don't get to see outside of a zoo. Staff is friendly and the keepers, when they're doing their talks, are very passionate about the animals they care for.

We had the opportunity to take part in the Denver Zoo's Backstage Experience. Marty Sweeney made the entire experience absolutely wonderful. Marty and the rest of the Zoo staff took the time to make my daughter's birthday truly a memorable experience. In addition to all that Marty did, her colleagues, Carly, Krystin, and Shannon we kind, caring, and extremely knowledge about the animals we were able to meet.

We were visiting from out of state and was looking forward to visiting the zoo. To our surprise how we found the condition of the zoo and the animals was shocking. I understand that with the Covid and closures, but did they just neglect the animals and the facility during that time??!! The zoo was poorly kept, some of the lions looked starved, other animals that we could see, were in their own feces, animals looked sad and yes I understand it is a zoo, but being a city zoo I would have thought it would have still been maintained during the pandemic. Terrible time and hopefully now that they're opened they will pay more attention and care to their facility and animals.

Considering everything occuring(covid-19) opening up to allow the public to get out of our houses was GREAT! Its a shame that the social distancing and mask wearing from the visitors was not consistently followed though

You could make a whole day out of seeing this zoo. Scheduled shows of Sea Lions, Elephants, Llamas, Tigers and Exotic Birds etc... happen every half hour. You have to see the reptile house, the newer tiger and elephant enclosures. Fun Carosel and train rides near monkey island for the kids. Just read the map beforehand so you know where the restrooms are.

Denver Zoo has done a great job opening back up with the pandemic. Masks are required, people are asked to social distance, and there is a clear one-way path to follow. You must get tickets ahead of time with timed entry even if you are a member.

Hardly any exhibits were open, and very little animals were available to be seen. We were treated very rudely when the zoo was getting ready to close. All the reptiles and the elephants looked sick or miserable.

One of the larger zoos I've been to. There are several different species of animals in what seem to be very well kept enclosures. Unfortunately a lot of them were hiding due to the cold winter but it was still worth the visit!
