My fav store in Sydney. They provide everything from cosmetics to shoes. You can always find something really amazing and the clothes last really long and don't weather. They might seem expensive at first but it's a really great price/quality ratio. Everything fits so we'll and if anything requires adjustment it's well worth the trouble. If I had to complain about something is that their bras chest sizes start from 75 cm and if someone is a smaller chest size (like me) they just can't bra-shop at the place :/

must be hard for the big stores these days, im not a big "shopper" in the classic sense. If you like the shopping experience then dj's probably good for you. i think they may need more staff but as i say its hard times for these guys at the mo.

Such poor customer service in the shoe department actually let's try NO customer service! Also for the amount of lifts available you would think that they would move more frequently to avoid people pushing in until everyone feels like a sardine.

Awful Bridal Registry experience. We expected the staff to reflect the special occasion with at least politeness and to try to make us feel welcome and special. Instead, they seemed to me to be burdened by us coming to their office or calling them. The website didn t allow us to view live updates or to manage our own registry the way Peter s of Kensington does. The website failed at a critical moment and only offered 5 gifts whereas we selected over 50 items for our guests to choose from which took a long time for us to put together. After notifying DJ we realised they were already aware of it but we hadn t heard from them to tell us so we could inform our guests. As a result we only received 8 gifts from our registry and when they arrived only half were wrapped. We are extremely disappointed and will be taking things further. I would recommend anyone considering a Bridal Registry here to think again.

When the Directors of DJs and other department sto...

When the Directors of DJs and other department store are scratching their heads wondering what went wrong in their retail models, they should just ask their customers. The issues with the retail stores never having enough staff are well documented and here in Newcastle, the range is so basic that it is only good for simple shopping. But what about online? Also dismal.

I recently decided to try buy 2 pairs of premium shoes - Valentino and Louboutin - as I was attending a conference a week later and wanted some new options. I ordered on 12 October and the invoice said to expect them on 18 Oct.

On 15 Oct I got an email asking me to call to verify the order. I rang the next morning and waited and waited on hold. My details were checked and I was told the order would be on the way.

Today I've still not seen a delivery tracking email, so I rang again as I wanted them in time to travel to Melbourne tomorrow. Again, I spent at least 20 minutes on hold to be told they were "being picked" and I could expect them in the days ahead!

I wasn't happy and asked for a manager to call me. He did and the summary is that don't have the Valentino in the Elizabeth St store to send (I wonder if maybe they did SIX days ago when I ordered them but no point looking today!) and the Louboutins are being sent directly by them.

So I have neither pair in time, and the Valentino order has to be cancelled entirely.

Contrast this with orders I have placed recently with Far Fetch, My Theresa and Gucci - all arrived within 48 hours, beautifully packaged and easy to refund if needed.

Overall, if you want to buy premium, DO NOT buy from DJs. They can't nail the in-store experience and are hopeless at online.

Where else do you get an elegant lady playing romantic tunes on a grand piano while you shop for luxury items?
Besides having the best possible brands available, the courtesy of shops assistants here is outstanding.
Good, old style at his best.

Since you truncated two city stores into one ( read 18 floors into 9), you have to go up through five floors ( all women's wear excluding the food hall) to eventually find a mediocre and over priced men's wear floor. I have now found David Jones no longer stock 2xist underwear, instead grossly overpriced $40 for a pair of knickers anyone) with the obligatory designer label. Helpful staff indicated ( off the record of course) that perhaps I could try on-line ? When I indicated my preference for mortar and bricks over online they indicated that management no longer bother to take on feedback from the coal face and are immune to what is happening. I decided not to waste the trip and went to.purchase some chinos. Went to the register, only to find an elderly man attempting to get a sale for $200 only to be told by the staff that until further notice they were only accepting contactless sales. When I indicated that perhaps some indication of this change of policy would be appropriate, they pointed to a six i nch by four inch sign beside the register! My immediate thought was why have this at point of sale (end journey) and not prominently displayed at point of entry? Why take someone on the complete journey only t o effectively tell them your money is basically worthless? This poor man was obviously struggling with this concept of no cash accepted. Staff indicated he could go to a post office and purchase a money card or purchase a David Jones gift certificate instead (,And how would this work if you there was no cash accepted?). After 15 minutes I have up, left my chinos there and walked out. Two missed sales of app $289.00. How many more David Jones? I then walked down to the basement to "Customer Service" and asked how to relay " negative feedback". I was told staff could do it there and then, but that would mean they would have to type it in, or I could go online and do it myself! God forbid! Guys, the demise of a once grand Department store, where David Jones was a treat and a destination based on quality merchandise with staff who cared, who were empowered to act and seemingly management who valued their staff. Your staff actually indicated to go online instead of shopping at "DJ's". Enough said really......let's Just see if they have a " social media" manager who can be bothered with a reply?

I purchased two items from tde valued at over $250. tde staff very helpful and friendly. I asked if I could get the items wrapped as they were both gifts and I was directed over to gift wrapping on level 3 (Sydney city store). Gift wrapping asked to see my receipt as I explained they were Birthday presents. My receipt was handed back and I was advised it would be $9.95 (each). I foolishly accepted and sat down. The finished product was in plain white paper with a David Jones ribbon and to top it off the wrapper chewed gum (opened mouth) the whole time I spoke to her.
Terrible service.

Shocking experience twice at the makeup department in David Jones. Lack lustre service by the counter people at Dior and Sisley. Did not take the time of day to help me. Guerlain did not have staff. The only redeeming counter was Bobbi Brown who took the time to sit me down and explain their products. I always saw DJs as a luxury experience however to get this continuing service my money will be spent elsewhere.

Absolutely horrendous customer service I think I spent at least a hour today trying to find staff to help us. My wife wanted to buy a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes we waited around for at least 25 minutes and never saw any staff we ended up walking out with out shoes. My wife wanted to buy a Hugo Boss dress. Once again no staff to serve us One David Jones employee was SMS Ing friends while I was standing right in front of her. No wonder David Jones is losing money. If David Jones goes broke they only have themselves to blame. My wife and I ended up walking out of David Jones with nothing all because there was no service

Great place for all your bouji needs :)
Not sure if it's because of the COVID situation or not, but found the international brand section to be less adequate in-terms of selection and stock. Hope that improves.

@David Jones: you SERIOUSLY have a problem!

@David Jones: you SERIOUSLY have a problem!

Yesterday I went to DJ in Sydney CBD as I was looking for a product (a luggage for my daughter). There were plenty (5+ items) in stock so I went back home and bought the item online (Qantas points). I opted for pick up at the very same store where I saw the item the day before. One hour later, I received the email below

This is the second time this happens in 2 months. If this is the way you go about online commerce, you`ll be doomed soon!

Iconic local retail experience. Good mix of local and international brands. The only remaining proper 'department store' in Australia.

Particularly nice service and selection, though prices somewhat to the higher end.

David Jones is the world's oldest continuously operating department store in the world. The Elizabeth Street David Jones Store which is right across the road from the mens David Jones Store is beautiful. This is the women's building selling a large range of items catering to women.

If i could give DJ zero stars i would. The blonde girl and the other lady Ramona at the Perri Cutten counter were horrendous and absolutely vile with the way they treated us. No acknowledgement or thank you, they threw our purchase on the counter after it was paid.

With a rude and disgusting tone Ramona spoke to me and told me "it's not the end of the world!" when the purchase was wrapped up in an ugly manner when all we simply asked was for it to be re-done. Very vicious and horrible staff working here at your store, shame on you David Jones!

Asked every staff in DJ and was told the ONLY gent's bathroom is on the 3rd floor. Worked our way up to find it closed and on further highlight to DJ staff there, redirected us to the next building DJ toilets. Only to find the store's auto gate coming down as we approached...DJ Sydney may be good for retail but definitely not going take care of their patrons' needs.

It used to be the place to go to for anything. Home furnishings to a range of cheap to big brand clothes and shoes, great food hall in recent times. Now a shadow of its old self. Overpriced, lack of choice and overall, uninteresting.

While the service on the designer menswear level was horrible...I still need to rate the Dior Boutique on the cosmetics level 5/5. Sky was amazing in helping me choose a gift for an upcoming birthday, but also went above and beyond to provide skin care advice. Will definitely be the only reason I come back.

MUST READ - David Jones Tills Rip You Off!

MUST READ - David Jones Tills Rip You Off!

I shop here all the time and I prefer DJ over Myer however you have to be careful. DJ's tills do not apply sales/discounts automatically. This means if you pick up an item which is on sale there is a good chance discounts will not be applied unless you make the person serving you aware. This is especially clear if you move between floors, staff have no idea what sales are happening on each floor.

I have raised this to DJ's via email and they confirmed their discounts are applied manually by their staff. I went shopping there today and I worked out that my items should have been $190, the guy on the till tried to charge me $350.

Myer on the other hand, you can pay for an item anywhere in store and the tills apply the discount automatically.

David Jone's really needs to get this sorted!

This would be higher but the children they have working at literally useless in all senses. Spent Saturday browsing and was testing some Tom Ford fragrances. I wanted to try the large 250ml decanters, and while I was, the rude little girl literally grabbed the bottle out of my hand and said use the smaller spray bottles! Say what? Look the decanters were mostly half empty and are not sealed; meaning people can use them to try the fragrances. Was just appalled. Just rude and they do it understand what a customer is. However at the La Prairie counter, two wonderful people, Marlene and Iniga were top notch. They both were super friendly and offered many samples and helped my partner and I choose a few different things. She immediately placed me in her calendar for a facial and this was before I even paid. $2K later we walked out with smiles. Will absolutely go back to these marvellous women who know their product and treat customers like they should be treated! 5 stars for them, 0 for the silly little girl at the Tom Ford counter.

Somewhat disappointed by the customer service today. I was basically made to feel bad for not repacking a jigsaw like box containing a coffee machine that was originally supplied in the wrong colour to the assistant s liking. If DavidJones idea of service is blame the customer for their errors fair enough. But I won't be back in a hurry.

While not as good as it used to be it is still really good but not as amazingly good as it used to be. As one example of this one noted that there is one variety of caviar available in the food hall, but it is located not far from the potato salad and chicken nuggets. Clothes and perfume and stuff is sold upstairs somewhere.

Not very well stocked, didn't have any of the items I was looking for. Ended up getting it all from Parramatta.

Staff aren't very helpful, waited in line to ask a question, behind customers making purchases, while they gossiped amongst themselves about their partners.

Flagship store that is really a stand out. Magnificent old building alone is worth the visit. Plenty of good stock on 5 levels. If you are after parfum then head there without fear, every budget has been catered for. Service is good and crowds are less then across the road Myer store. Fashion galore on upper levels and a foodie paradise below. It is the place to go in Sydney CBD if you looking for shopping experience.

It's David Jones! On serious note, I always find this DJ store quite dark and somewhat messy compared to the Myer store across the road. It is still a great store and has broad range of collection and brands. You won't be disappointed although I also recommend visiting Myer store to see the difference.
