Tracking down a good kids bike during COVID times has proved challenging. Found it at Clever Cycles, website was accurate in reflecting bikes in stock, staff was super helpful getting it ordered over the phone and getting it shipped to the east coast the same day. Cleary Owl for my 6 year old arrived on schedule and in good shape and is an awesome kids bike that he already loves to ride. Seems to be a good operation, only wish I lived in Portland to enjoy it in person.

I had a very positive experience buying an e-bike through Clever Cycles, and would recommend them highly to anyone. They are helpful and knowledgeable. I felt that I could trust them to help me move in this new direction as I age.

I happened to have a puncture right as I was passing the store. Dane very kindly showed me how to replace the tube of my tire in a live tutorial outside , even while a bunch of other customers were coming and going. I'll definitely be returning here, you guys are the best!

I have received great customer service from Clever Cycles - I bought a Breezer and Jeremy was super helpful with the bike purchasing process and helping me to fit the bike to my needs.

Couldn't find the bike I wanted on the westside and found Clever Cycles on the Breezer website. Made an inquiry and got a reply within the hour. A few days later I dropped by and picked up my Breezer Beltway 8+. Nice!!! Mahalo Clever Cycles!!!

I recently ordered a custom electric bike conversion online and wanted to ship it to a shop for professional assembly. Since the bike was built with some parts seen on some cargo bikes, I ended up having it assembled here.

The staff were efficient and friendly; I coordinated for shipment via email, the bike arrived in their shop one day, and it was ready for pickup the next. They adjusted it to my height when I walked in, sold me a helmet, and I was on my way! Prices were entirely reasonable.

If I were in the market for a cargo bike or folding bike, I would definitely come here first. Lots of great options for folks who require non-standard bikes for travel, carrying kids, carrying cargo, etc., and great service! The best shop in Portland for any of those use cases, really.

Another bonus: easy to get to via public transit, and it's along a quiet side street that's great for test rides. If you're not used to foldable or cargo bikes and would like to practice a bit before you buy, it's a very safe area to do so.

The Clever Cycles staff is fantastic...professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and invested in a good experience. Excellent products too. Great place.

I ve been researching the right bike trailer for my dog and I chose the Burley Tail Wagon. I didn t want to buy it on amazon because eww Jeff Bezos, and made the call to buy it from a local bike purveyor. I m so glad I did. I ordered it by phone, rode my bike there and they put the trailer on my bike for me. They were fast, friendly and helpful. 10/10 would make another purchase at Clever Cycles

This guy's are so but so cool, I just had a miscommunication about some break adjustments with them and they made it right! Can't say enough good thing's about this place, they are actually booked in advance over a month and they were kind enough to fix it that same day! Is the little thing's that Matters that eventually will add up. It's all about that good and bad Karma and it's up to us which one you would like to collect!!! Strongly recommend this place, come check it out, not too far from the water in downtown Portland!

Great shop....highly recommend Clever bikes, especially for e-bikes. Over a few visits, we dealt with Dean, Liz, Eva and few others and all were professional and super friendly. No pressure sales, and made sure we tried several bikes that matched our needs. Liz even set the bikes up for demo using weighted panniers to mimick how we d be using it. Fortunate that they were open during pandemic times (with proper precautions) and that we live close by.

I live about 3000 miles from Clever Cycles - yet I ve purchased 3 bikes from them, and it s been about the best experience I could ask for. Dean, Aaron and the team know their stuff - particularly Brompton bikes - and their prices are great. I ve had three bikes shipped to me, and all have arrived in perfect condition. I like this store so much that I actually tagged a day onto a business trip to Portland just to stop by and say Hi. They are as friendly in person as they are knowledgable by phone. Update Feb 2021. Just purchased another foldable from Clever Cycles. I couldn t find any stock locally in PA, yet the folks in Portland OR came through again. Delivery only takes a few days. In addition to being experts on everything cycling, Clever Cycles can even cure the pandemic blues. Thanks again.

Clever Cycles recently rehabbed my wife's and my bike after they had been sitting for a couple of years unridden and unattended. Not only did the staff at CC get them back into perfect riding condition, but they voluntarily took the time to actually clean off the grime which had collected on them from being stored away. That extra step says everything you need to know about CC and their people.

These folks are great and they know their bikes. Dean was fantastic and so patient as I weighed out the options and made my decision - a lovely, bright red pair of wheels perfect for the commute and the city life. I also really appreciated not being pushed into a decision or upsold on other products. Nice work, guys.

I live in Seattle, and I do not consider it a hassle to travel to Portland to get my bicycles serviced semi-annually. I also purchase all parts for my Brompton from Clever Cycles - chain, cassette, tubes, and tires. In every aspect of their business operation, the quality of service and product is flawless. I can always sense that their mechanics worked on my bike as if it was their own bikes, which is a quality near impossible to find in any kind of service business, be it a bicycle shop, auto mechanic, or house contractors. When I purchase parts, they are always packaged with care, and shipped swiftly. They always answer my inquiries with great care, even if it does not lead to a sale. Clever Cycles seem to simply want to get more people to enjoy cycling. If I ever move to Portland, the decision would have been made in -part to be closer to Clever Cycles.

We're so happy that Clever Cycles is in Portland. We've bought both our Bromptons and our Brompton Electrics from them and both times they saw to all our needs effectively, efficiently and with great professionalism. The service is always top notch too. Everyone is friendly and helpful. You can't beat Bromptons for their maneuverability, and foldability. We take them EVERYWHERE and 2 fit in the back of our Volvo XC60 along with other luggage AND they fit into a laundry closet in our condo. Great bikes, Great bike shop!

I was looking for the perfect 24 inch road bike for my daughter. Apparently this is far more difficult then I anticipated to find in Portland. However clever cycles has amazing kid bikes including mountain bikes with hydraulic disc brakes which was pretty awesome.... Anywho they took the time to hear me out and let me know that Frog bikes has a road bike which I special ordered and it only took just over a week to be ready. This bike far exceed anything I could have expected and my daughter cannot get enough. The service from clever cycles was amazing and they even took the time to help me find fenders that fit this bike and it's skinny tires. I cannot recommend clever cycles enough it's a great shot with great people.

Emailed looking for a Linus Roadster 7i. At first I was told there were all out and I could, if I wanted, put a deposit down on one. They were backordered and expected fulfillment would be October. This was to be expected because of the run on bikes with everyone being in quarantine. About an hour later I received a follow up email stating that they had tracked one down for me and it was mine if I wanted it! I snatched it up. They had it assembled and ready for me to pick up a couple days later. Great staff and great bike.

I've only had good experiences coming to this shop. I've brought my bike in three different times for different services and repairs, and the staff have been nothing but helpful. They thoroughly explained the issues to me, as well as how to avoid them in the future, and I've never felt talked down to - they really want to help you out. On my last visit, Aaron went above and beyond, performing extra maintenances just because they needed to be done, and was incredibly helpful and friendly - I've never felt so welcome at a bike shop before coming here! Very fair repair prices, too!

When I lived across the country, they were great. Shipped a bike and a stokemonkey to me. After I moved here, they ignored me every time I walked in the store so I stopped going.

A smooth and perfect transaction. I exchanged emails to get details on the spares I needed for my Brompton (spokes, inner tube, tire removal lever). The responses were fast and professional. I placed my order and it arrived in 3 days from Portland to San Diego.

They have a wide selection of bikes to choose from. I recently purchased a bike and had Eva put it together. She was a great help and went through the effort to do extra research to customize it the way I wanted. Everyone is friendly and a great help. One the best bike shops I've been to in the city.

This shop rules! I had my eyes on a certain brompton on their web shop and before I could commit to buying it the bike had sold. So I messaged Clever Cylces about sourcing the right brompton for me and they had one in stock I wanted (black edition) but it had a dynamo hub which I didn t want or need. I let them know and they took off the dynamo and put a non dynamo wheel on for me at no charge. They also installed a suspension block I purchased from them so the brompton was ready to ride out of the box exactly how I wanted it. Shipping was fast and affordable also! Thank you to the Clever Cycles team!

so........getting a bike was turning out to be an ordeal during the pandemic as i shopped localy and on line. I remembered ;cleaver has linus and I love linus. A four month wait; oh well. as long as other wait times.Ok. 2 months later........come pick up your bike. clever was as great as ever. A shiney new linus roadster , a safe socialy distanced staff and more courtesy than most people could muster pre pandemic. Be back for that 100 mile tune up they cheerfuly reminded me of. you need to shop here.

I love the selection of this shop and for the most part my experiences with them have been ok. I purchased an awesome Lagoon Blue Brompton. My girlfriend on the other hand has been flat out told that they didn t want to bother helping her schedule a service appointment for the Tern Link that she purchased from them. The reason that I am still giving three stars is because I feel that if they worked on possibly retraining there employees to be more customer forward I would be here more, and probably spend more. I do hope they are able to figure it out as I love the selection and the couple of good apples at the store still.

GREAT EXPERIENCE! I've been looking for an e-bike for over a year. Test-ridden a lot. Made an appointment for a test ride and they asked ahead of time what I was hoping to demo, and they were prepared. Our sales person Liz was an absolute gem. Very knowledgeable on all the bikes we rode, gave us great tips. She was able to help my boyfriend and I together in the same appointment. Their website shows the store inventory and was accurately reflecting what was in stock. They're running a great shop! We got bikes that FIT well and we LOVE them. I rode to work yesterday (an hour each way with hills that I could not take without the e-assist). So happy with my new bike!!

Excellent experience, treated like adults (even though we weren't). I dropped by with my two kiddos on a Saturday to check out a couple specific Cleary bikes for them, and within a few minutes Liz helped us outside (thank you!), and we were making saddle adjustments and verifying what models worked best for the next steps.

I'm coming back to purchase both a Hedgehog and Owl.

Awesome customer service. I was so impressed with the help I got from Laurie and other staff getting the right child seat and rack for my wife's bike that would also fit our future e-bike purchase. They took the time to experiment with multiple child seats to ensure fit on the ebike and offered multiple solutions. They definitely have my future business.

Clever Cycles asked me to leave a review to help other shoppers that would buy from them. They are very responsive to my e-mails concerning my bicycle. Received answers to my questions and they were very helpful. I recommend them for a great shopping experience .

I recently purchased a bike from Clever Cycles and the experience was excellent. I had a number of interactions with them, starting with a rental to try out the bike, and then purchasing the bike, getting some additional accessories, and finally returning one accessory that wasn't going to work for me. I was able to get in touch with the staff by phone, web chat, and in person and everyone has been friendly and helpful each time.

I recently bought a Tern HSD from Clever Cycles. Great experience. Eva, one of the owners, showed me multiple bikes, gave me instructions on each and background on the manufacturers and gave me ample time to test ride each. Everyone involved in the process was cool. Only wish I could have gone in the shop because it looked like they had great stuff. But despite the Covid restrictions, it was an easy process. I highly recommend checking them out.

A truly unique and fantastic bike store. I've bought 4 bikes from here over the last 13 years, and have loved all of them. Their focus on practical bikes for city trips make them unique in Portland.

They allowed for us to place a pre-order for a bicycle, built it for us at no charge, and Eva worked with me over email to find a lock solution that would work for us.
We live on the West side of town, but will happily bike over to their shop any time we need anything cycling related.

I recently found the need to buy a folding bike. I knew straight away that Clever would be my go to for a Brompton. I interfaced with Liz who was simply awesome. They were knowledgeable and worked hard to provide me with exactly what I needed even with the challenging nature of our current covid times. A gem of a bike shop. I ve been a customer for many years, and have brought all sorts of bikes here for maintenance. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, great parts selection, and they can fix almost any problem! If they make a mistake, they work to solve it. I recently traded in a Brompton to upgrade to a newer model, and the process was super easy.

I'm not in the Portland, OR area, I am in the SF Bay Area, and since our SIP enforcement continues to be extended, I thought that this would be a great time to pick up a new hobby. The hobby that I picked was biking (along with everyone else in the US) and of course I pick out a bike that is sold out everywhere, which is classic behavior for me.

I was searching high and low for a Linus Mixte 3 and I FINALLY found it at Clever Cycles. I called the shop a few times to understand my options for shipping the bike from Oregon to California. Each employee that I spoke with were incredibly helpful and friendly -- shout out Eva & Dylan!!

When I was able to confirm that they had the bike & that I could purchase it, I was helped by a super friendly guy named Dean. Dean answered each of my questions, and I assure you there were a lot. Dean walked me through shipment, payment, etc, and was incredibly patient throughout the entire process. Thank you, so much Dean! It's too bad I did not get to meet any of you in person, but based on the amazing service I received, I'll only be ordering anything bike related from Clever! Thank you again!!

I recently decided to purchase a Brompton cycle, Special Edition, and spent a great deal of time and effort trying to locate a bike given that there has been a significant scarcity of bikes in the country. My hunt changed when I was lucky to find Clever Cycles. Not only did they find the exact Brompton model for me but also made the entire sale pleasant and effortless. They have a wonderful site with great information and if you are looking for add-on parts, they have them all. They were nothing but professional to deal with from the start and a special shout-out goes to Eva for making this sale so very effortless. You can count on Clever Cycles!

Stopped in to buy a new rack because the nut/bolt fell off my current one. Thought I had set it up wrong initially which caused the nuts to fall off. Was totally prepared to pay for a new one and install fees, but the woman in the store helped me out.

I brought my bike into the back for service and she just added loctite to all of the current bolts and hooked me up with a free nut/bolt. Super impressed with the service and casual atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend.

Great local bike shop with large selection of folding bikes, commuter bikes, Nutcase helmets, apparel and more. They also do maintenance and provide really great customer service.

Can I make monthly payments if I can t buy it straight out?

The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Clever Cycles are always helpful. They helped us choose the xtracycle that was the best fit for our family and we couldn't be happier with it!

The buying experience was great, Clever was very responsive to my questions. I purchased a Frog 62 and was quite surprised to find that there were no assembly instructions included nor any videos online. Frog does provide a very general guide through a web hyperlink but according to them instructions/videos were halted due to the pandemic. The bike is a quality product, my son loves it, but the lack of instructions does take away from the experience and I wish Clever could've posted a disclaimer about it.

Clever Cycles is the go-to place for family bicycling in Portland, period. There are other bike shops -- wonderful bike shops -- that specialize in cargo bikes, but if your cargo is kids then this is the place to go. I bought a used Bakfiets 5 years ago when they were out of stock of new ones and they have always treated me just a good as someone that bought the bike from them. Jeremy in the Service Dept is my personal hero. He has helped me on more occasions than I can count and I always leave feeling happier with my bike. I really can't praise them highly enough.

This is a friendly bike shop with lots of different choices geared toward practical city and family bikes. They have a bunch of cargo bikes, city bikes, folding bikes, and kids bikes. And they have tons of accessories like baskets and lights, and clothes like rain gear, and helmets.

I purchased my son s first bike, the Linus 20 Roadster from Clever Cycles, and I was very satisfied with the online buying experience, order follow-up, and very responsive and friendly staff. With bikes being sold out everywhere due to the Shelter in Place finding an honest company that show updated information on their website was really tough. I found that this company accurately represented their stock amounts online and informed me within 24 hrs that the order had been fulfilled and was getting prepared for shipping. The bike was even expedited through BikeFlights and arrived in perfect condition! My son was so excited to receive his bike on time for his birthday. I m glad I found Clever Cycles during my online bike search. I would highly recommend this company and shop with them again. After a decade of using various bike shops around town, I was pretty jaded and didn't expect to find a shop that provided great customer service. I came to CleverCycles specifically to get a cargo family bike but I'm hoping they service standard road bikes as well because I don't want to give anywhere else my business now. I interacted with owner(s) and employees between emails, phone calls, and three visits, as this was a big purchase. Everyone was so nice, knowledgeable, and adept at customer service and super friendly and welcoming when I had my toddler in tow as well. I can't recommend them and the shop enough and that's not even mentioning the incredible cargo bike that I'm excited to ride and enjoy for years to come. Thank you!

I lived outside USA and first time buying a bike online. Thank you Clevercycle for making this shopping experience a breeze. The bike came in perfect condition!

I went in with minor adjustments needed, but the staff refused to allow me to borrow their tools for a quick adjustment and they were demanding in their duty. For how many bike shops are in the area, I was appalled at how greedy for business they were. I will never return.

Clever cycles indeed but not in a good way.
Beware clevercycles may ship you a returned/used merchandise for the price of a brand new one.
I ordered brompton toolkit for a gift, a hard-to-find pricey brand name item.
It came in an opened packaging and clearly was used.
I will not be buying from clevercycles again.

Recently bought my first e bike from Clever Cycles. I love my new bike and am very happy with my experience at Clever Cycles.

After some less-than-stellar experiences at Portland bike shops where my kind of bike-riding isn't really catered to, I walked into Clever Cycles and went "Aaaaah!" This place feels just right.

I ride every day to work and on errands. I don't race. I don't compete. I don't try to improve my time. I don't shower and change my clothes at the office, I just toodle along in street clothes at a non-sweaty pace. In short, riding a bike for me is purely transportation, and not in any way a sport.

Clever Cycles understands this. They rented me a Workcycles Oma, spent at least half an hour making sure it was adjusted to fit me, and went to extraordinary lengths to insure that I had a great experience trying it out.

They didn't bat an eye at my need for a more heavy-duty bike to suit my heavy-duty self. They told me frankly what the differences were between outwardly-similar bikes, and discussed with me why I might choose one over the other AFTER LISTENING TO ME about my intended use of the bike. The being-listened-to part of this story is the really extraordinary thing.

So I'm going back with my tax refund to buy one of the fantastic-for-me Dutch bikes they sell. Yay Clever Cycles!

I live in Connecticut - the other side of the country from CC. Yet this is my favorite bike shop. There are lovely people to deal with, knowledgeable about bikes, have an excellent inventory and ship immediately.
