I have always had wonderful experiences at the Plano location. I am not impressed with downtown. We had to go there because they have a GI floor but when we get through with this, I think I will take my 16 year old to a regular hospital. We have been in the ER no less than 6 times in the last year. The last time we were in Plano the nurse started doing a mental health screen on my daughter. I explained that there is no need to screen because my daughted is under the cate of a counselor and a psychiatrist. They said I cpuld refuse and I did. Then we show up in Dallas and my daughter is in triage in terrible pain. Almost the first question out of the triage nurses mouth was, "Have you wanted to die in the last two weeks. I stopped her and told her it was a waste of time since my daughter has mental health professionals. She argued wirh me and emphasized "SAFETY" screening like I did not have my childs best interest at heart. I consider my childs privacy violated as well as my parental rights. The doctor made sure she asked all of those questions and more which I am sure was because of the nurses notes. I wonder...are these doctors or investigators? My child had a stomach ache, no bruising and she is almost grown. I have had to call CPS before and they consider am adeacent a low risk because they can call 911 or hit back. They have had to develop an alternative response because of the multitude of mandatory reporters. As a teacher and as a former state employee I know the rules. These people overstep their boundaries.

I only put this due to a visit I had with my daughter Saturday night I took her in with cough, congestion, greenish mucus and fever of 102.5 and was told she had flu like systems and pink eye and to let it run its course but something told me as a parent that something was wrong so I waited for monday to take her to her pediatrician and she came back positive for strep throat and pneumonia so I was really disappointed that the hospital didnt find anything wrong with her and she could have gotten really sick if if I hadn't got a a second opinion and she had no pink eye either

We have a medically complicated child that was born with multiple anatomical anomalies. After receiving poor care in another location, we were able to change our insurance and receive treatment at Children's in Dallas. We found excellent doctors who actually listen to parents, do their homework on complicated cases, and respond to questions and concerns. Our experience with Children's has been nothing but positive, and our child has been able to be released from almost all specialist care. We are very grateful.

Absolutely horrible hospital. The wait time is outrageous. I have Been in the ER going on 8 hours and STILL waiting. Yup, I m still waiting while I write this review. We ve had multiple people come in and ask the same questions, we ve repeated our story multiple times and still no resolution to my daughters issue. She has 2 of her feet extremely swollen, that hasn t gone done or shown any signs of improvement since we ve been here and my husband and I still do Not have an answer to what might be the problem. I fee Like the doctors and staff don t even know themselves. I rarely wrote reviews, if I could give 0 stars I would. To anyone out there who hasn t been to this hospital and is seeking ER assistances PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE.

While my daughter was in recovery on the 8th floor...

While my daughter was in recovery on the 8th floor Cardiac, we had been requesting an echo since 11/3 afternoon when she was showing signs of respiratory deterioration through 11/4 post appendectomy. The Fellow MD Duran continually denied our request to check her pulmonary hypertension pressures by Echo as he was convinced it was Atelectasis (partial collapsed lung)...while never actually seeing my daughter and seeing how bad her breathing had become along with elevated heart rate, high respirations and destating into the 80s o2! It wasn t until I was at my wits end Monday morning at 6am when I told the Resident doctor that I had had it with the doctors being complacent and shooting down our concerns for hypertension. We know our child and her history of hypertension and they should have done an echo right away to rule it out!!! Dr Malik came and discussed with me why I was upset and I told her that they were complacent about our child who has had a history of pulmonary hypertension and due to her deteriorating respiratory condition, I demanded an echo ASAP! She said that they were going to do it right away but that she was of the same opinion as Duran that it was just Atelectasis and that the xrays were improving...then why was she continuing to deteriorate!...thus why we continued to beg for an echo!

They finally did the echo at 10:30am 11/5 and was told I should hear from the doctors in 30 minutes or so. They did not come in to give report until almost 2pm at which point the main doctor Malik notifies us that she did in fact have Pulmonary Hypertension and it was severe at the high 50% range!!!

This was a blatant misdiagnosis and is unacceptable because our child could have died from an imminent hypertension crisis if I had not lost it on them. The nurses all were wonderful and agreed that an echo should have already taken place! We never had any issues during her OHS in 10/2016 but this experience for her appendectomy was a nightmare and these doctors need a quality ego check to their God Complex and it needs to be common practice to perform an echo for complex Shone s kiddos with a history of PH after any procedure especially when symptomatic!!! Very disappointed in Dallas Children s!!!

WORST HOSPITAL - AVOID!

WORST HOSPITAL - AVOID!

We went to Plano location TWICE for SEVERE abdominal pain that has been going on near 3 months. They deemed it as constipation. Went to Dallas ER location a week later, and they admitted us for failure to thrive. Refused to run a CT scan even though my sister in law (who is also a ped doctor) told me we needed one ASAP. They were slow and uncaring. Not a single doctor or nurse showed any emotion to my child screaming and crying in pain. FINALLY got them to admit it wasn't constipation (this is almost 2 weeks later). We got discharged with NO RESOLUTION by an intern, and come to find out the GI doctor had wanted us transferred to Our Children's House since my CHILD HAD NOT EATEN IN 6 DAYS. Scans and bloodwork showed elevated WBC and PROMINENT LYMPH NODES. Which I guess is just fine? When we were discharged, they said it was functional abdominal pain, which he would grow out of. So basically, my child who won't eat, cries constantly, hardly moves....just needs to suck it up. Sent all the results to my sister in law who consulted with a ped oncologist and they said we should see an oncologist to RULE OUT LYMPHOMA. This place is a joke. The doctor's do not communicate. The nurses sit at the nurses station on their phones or on facebook or media sites on the computers. I walked up and overheard nurses talking badly about my son who "wouldn't *&%*ing calm down". Sorry my child is in pain? I will never come back to this place. EVER. I hope they get sued someday.

This hospital is amazing! I couldn't feel more comfortable with my son in anyone else's care than with Children's Hospital (Dallas or Plano). They were generous, ambitious, attentive, and informative. I would definitely recommend this hospital over any other hospital when it comes to child care! Thank you Children's from the Crosby family!

Rating for ER visit.

Rating for ER visit.
If you're between locations, drive to Plano's location. Plano's is always better.
Doctors have better bedside manners, patient and caring.
Dallas always shoves you into MULTIPLE waiting areas, that are too full.
MY SON (a toddler) HAD AN OPEN WOUND THAT NEED STITCHES BUT THEY KEPT HIM SITTING THERE WITH A PAPER TOWEL. "make him sit still and apply pressure."
It's like they don't know children at all. But ok, we waited for 2 hours before we left (UNSEEN at that).

Horrible. I have taken two of my children here, and they lie, lie, lie. They tell you what will happen and when and it NEVER happens when they say it will. Took my son in on a Wednesday December 2012 with an appendix 16x times the normal size. They said he would have surgery immediately, that night...then they said he would have it first thing the next morning. He didn't get it until 9:30 the next morning. We were fortunate it didn't rupture.

Took my daughter in 3 weeks ago for first onset seizure. She sat in bed in the ER for 3 hours, with no actual treatment. She was cold, and they couldn't even give her a blanket. The ER doctor was a total douchebag. Pretty sure he didn't believe she had a seizure. He "spoke with neurology" and we were told to follow up in the clinic. We were charged $3,500 for them doing absolutely nothing. On the way home, she had another seizure, and I took her right back. Same douchebag came and talked to me and said, "I am pretty sure they will say to follow up in the clinic, but I'll go talk to neurology again". Douchebag never came back. Nurse came in to tell me they would admit her and run some tests. They charged me ANOTHER $3,141.00 for ANOTHER ER visit. Douchebag's name is Dr. Cormack.

All of the nurses at this hospital have always been extremely nice and caring towards my children. I am not impressed with any of the doctors, as they don't seem to talk to each other, they don't follow up, and they keep you waiting for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, I live in Dallas County and this is where the ambulance takes my kids in emergencies.

Arrived at 9:00 pm because my daughter was having really bad stomach pains, vomiting and shortness of breath. The nurse who checked her in gave her Tylenol but even after 30 minutes she still had pain. Unfortunately no one ever called her in to see a doctor we were there for almost 4 hours. I asked the gentleman in the check in area that we had been there for 4 hours. He checks tells me you have only been here for 3 hours and 33 minutes we are just waiting for a room to open. So I guess in those 3 hours and 33 minutes there was never a room open for her. I left with my child with stomach pain because it might have taken another 3 hours and 33 minutes for a room to be available to her.

Very best place you can have your child treated! Nothing but the best doctors, and the most experienced staff in the field, I wouldn't take my children anywhere else. My son was recently admitted and we had to stay for about 2 weeks, I appreciate the knowledge, the cleanliness and professionalism, totally worth it!

Rather than see my child for what he came in for (...

Rather than see my child for what he came in for (a skull fracture for which he had no symptoms, for which we were referred for a neuro consult by Presbyterian), the Children's medical staff did not perform ANY exams or scans for his condition; they only filed a report with CPS alleging physical abuse. After testing my toddler for drugs and taking x-rays looking for other signs of abuse (there were NONE), we then spent hours with NO care - through 3 different doctors shifts according to the nurses - and no food or even water offered for a toddler with a positive flu test because they were 'waiting for CPS' ... then more hours jumping through the hoops of CPS proving that he's a well-cared for, but very active, toddler learning to walk.

HORRIBLE experience!!! If you need ANY specialized care for your child, go to Cooks in Tarrant County - I found out after our one and only ever visit that the medical professionals I work with don't ever refer to Childrens because of their negative experiences with the medical staff there too.

Horrible experience in the ER dept 6HR wait with no one available for you to ask questions according to the nurse that did come out only said to another family and I we are in the red zone where the sickest patients go which at this point seems like a joke.... then to top it off a mom asked for some help with her daughter that was vomiting medication wise understandably the nurse named Katie says she has to wait to be seen then goes back inside telling the rest of the staff I wouldn t go out there if I were y all seems a little heartless if you ask me

Brought my then 17 yr old to get an implant for bc. First appointment there were a lot of people waiting and we were seen pretty quickly. 2nd visit for a follow up was ridiculous. Why make people sit in a hot patient's room for over an hour? There were 3 people in the waiting area when we arrived. They had gone way before my daughter was seen. The follow up seemed kind of pointless because there were no issues with the implant and it stays in for 3 years. I drove over an hour away to come here and it was a waste of time and money.

We've been coming here for 19 years. Best team of doctors. They communicate well with parents and kids...and each other. There's a train display for the kids (and everyone) to enjoy. Obviously handicapped friendly. You have to pay for parking. Use the garages. There's also Pokemon stops for those that play. Train stop in front of the hospital, too.

I highly recommend this hospital.

My daughter is supposed to be having surgery at th...

My daughter is supposed to be having surgery at this hospital tomorrow, and based on my experiences with staff so far I am seriously considering canceling her surgery.

It took two weeks to schedule the surgery with ME having to call to schedule because nobody called US and then having to contact our cardiologist to get notes from our daughter s most recent visit and have them faxed to Children s Dallas. The next phone call from this hospital was to attempt to collect payment for the surgery a phone call to our insurance company unveiled that no one had contacted them for a preauthorization, so how could the hospital be asking for money when they didn t even know how much we d owe???

Then we receive a phone call from pre-anesthesia to schedule a pre-op appointment which had already been scheduled with my daughter s pediatrician. The next phone call from pre-anesthesia clinic was a rude one, with Atta (not sure how to spell her name) pretty much insinuating that I am a liar.

At this point, I have ZERO confidence in the staff of this hospital and almost no confidence that my daughter s life will be in good hands.

My cousin went to Children's in October with seizu...

My cousin went to Children's in October with seizures followed by severe abdominal pain. She was flown in to Children's and admitted to the epileptic ward. She seizures worsened, pain intensified and she eventually started having hallucinations. While this was going on, Dr Lorena Herbert and Elizabeth Byrne came into the room, and basically instructed us to "ignore" this and they would decrease because these were "non-epileptic seizures" and we should be glad it isn't Epilepsy because it is much worse. My 15 year old cousin was written off basically because these sort of seizures weren't "as bad". We told them the symptoms started after her menstrual cycle and also told them how severe her cycles were. They never acknowledged this! After she was discharged her symptoms only intensified. After being seen by a doctor in Tyler, she saw the symptoms and believed it to be "Acute Intermittent Porphyria" which is a crippling and painful, rare genetic disorder. This diagnosis is accurate. Turns out there is a link to menstrual cycles as hormones can cause the symptoms in women. The abdominal pain they IGNORED is a major side affect of AIP and the level of pain has been described as debilitating and excruciating. Even described as "not compatible for life"! and like a heated branding iron being stuck in the gut! For Children's to be a well known and respectable hospital you would think they would be more diligent and caring! They literally wrote her OFF just because her condition wasn't epilepsy and did NO further research! Lorena Herbert wouldn't know compassion and bed-side manners if it slapped her in the face!

Most of the staff here are wonderfully pleasant, they " get it " ya know, working with SICK CHILDREN and their heartbroken families, however, there are nurses Kayla & Beena, that act like they hate life and have literally NO patience for the people that they CLOCK IN TO HELP?? One would think that if you hated your job you'd find another? Do us all the favor. SO, a week after posting this review, I'm realizing it's worse than I thought, having to already deal with life-changing news for our child, we have to deal with a horrible system that makes it almost impossible just to get ahold of someone getting advice on how to help your child, which they stated in the hospital would be very easy? They also said that there would be 24-hour access to a whole team of individuals ranging from dieticians to nurses and even endocrinologists, the truth about it is EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATED!!! And when you finally get a human being they're normally short and rude, it's like they don't understand what you're going through, Ugh!! It really sucks to have a sick child and a BROKEN system like CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER OF DALLAS!!!

My daughter came here for appendicitis, after visiting another hospital that couldn't even find her inflamed appendix.
The ER staff was great. She was brought back and assessed immediately by both a nurse and an ER physician. IV was started while child specialists distracted her. Then, she was whisked to the ultrasound room. The sonographer was gentle, but efficient and professional.
Came right back to her room in the ER and we had a diagnosis 5 minutes later.
Floor nurses were kind and got us settled and medicated my daughter for pain.
Appendix was taken out the next morning and we were on our way home by noon. The RR nurses and surgeon gave us a TON of information. (More than we probably really needed- which is a great "problem" to have!)
We got a follow up phone call a few days later, checking up on my daughter's recovery.
Cannot brag on this hospital enough.

This place is a dump compared to the one in Plano. Dr looked at my kid 2 minutes before pushing us out into a waiting room for 45 minutes waiting for results. Told me to force my child to drink fluids with a syringe if he wouldn't on his own. Totally unhappy with our visit, everyone was in a rush and the building itself is old and patched up.
