Love, love, LOVE this zoo! A must visit when in Colorado Springs!
Love, love, LOVE this zoo! A must visit when in Colorado Springs!
Great place for kids. Lots of interaction with walabies, giraffes, goats, chickens and other animals. This is a small zoo but extraordinary. If you have ever been to the San Diego Zoo you will understand the hill. Lots of walking up hill and down hill. Only a quarter the size of the San Diego Zoo but totally worth visiting.
We have been members for a number of years and highly recommend the cheyenne mountain zoo.
Best zoo ever!!! :) Take cash so you can feed the giraffes!
Fun zoo with a good variety of animals. My daughter loves to feed the giraffes. The new Australia area is really neat and worth checking out. The food is also quite good, albeit pricey, for a zoo.
Everytime I go, it's like the first time. The keepers do a wonderful job at educating as well as an amazing job of taking care of the animals. I always learn something new and see something new
This is the best zoo I've been to. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff.
My favorite zoo. I've been to Chicago, Denver, Riverbanks in Columbia SC, and Greenville SC. Any of those have something special to offer. But Cheyenne, is more intimate and scenic at the same time.
A terrific zoo. They've really improved over the years. Plenty to see, plenty to do. Be sure to bring water. The altitude will claim you too.
Loved it here. Didn't get to see everything, got rained out.
It was awesome and I am from Wichita Kansas thank you
Absolutely love the hands on experience here! So many fun interactions and so many beautiful views. It's actually a small zoo, but it has so much to offer that I will most definitely be back. You get to interact with the animals, close up opportunities, gorgeous views and really nice scenic walk/hike around. Definitely bring comfy shoes and wear comfy clothes because it's a walk around that is worth it.
They don't prepare you for the hike uphill and a lot of the animals weren't there for the viewing. There weren't a lot of people enforcing the covid mask rule which was really upsetting.
We LOVE the zoo. Staff is wonderful, animals are treated humanly and are well cared for. Great causes are supported by this zoo. Seriously our favorite part of co springs.
This is the best zoo I have ever been too!! I got to feed a rhino, elephant, giraffe, chickens, and little . Also got to pet a walabee. All of the animal enclosures were nice. I am not a reptile fan, but the habitats were super cool.
The views are everything, it's like a mini hike going through the zoo. Definitely a workout.
Great zoo! It's a lot of incline walking, but they also have a shuttle for those needing it. They've made numerous improvements over the years and always seem to be overhauling one exhibit or another to give the animals more room. Feeding the giraffes is always a highlight for us!
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a nice small zoo to take your kids to.
I loved being able to see all the animals and petting the giraffes :)
Best zoo I've been to. At every turn there was an activity that was hands on. We will be back here often.
The zoo closes so early that during the week its impossible to go after school with the kids.
Love this place. Spend the extra money and bring cash to feed the animals and do the shows and experiences. If for nothing else, go for the giraffes
The whole zoo sits on a mountainside in the trees. Unique experience for a zoo. Interesting variety of animals
I gave this 2 stars because the parking was free and the sky ride was awesome.. the giraffe exhibit was also decent...
but the rest of the zoo was ABSOULELTY HORRENDOUS... the elephants have skin rott , the orangutans are matted up bad (see pics I posted) matting causes skin sores due to the skin not being able to breathe, working with exotics I've seen monkeys who've gotten shaved down due to the matting because they're not always able to groom themselves or have a mate to do it, like this one pictured was all by himself. .. They are so depressed in those TINY areas they have ... the elephant "play area" looks like a jail cell..
cement and bars... it's pretty sad... not to mention they're really under weight, African elephants should be around 16,000 pounds they're nowhere near that (posted pics) .. it's a cool concept to have a zoo in the mountains but at least take care of the animals.. Busch gardens in Florida has the same animals and there's such a difference in the appearance of the animals as well as the Bronx zoo in New York, sea world in Texas and many many other xhibits that I've been to around the world.. This is the saddest thing I've ever seen. these look sick . It sure doesn't seem like the money they make goes towards animal rehabilitation . one giraffe has a huge open sore on his knee . we won't be back nor would we recommend this place, but we do hope the animals get the proper care they need . hopefully the zoo gets a new owner. Not to mention the animals there are very basic... aside from the larger animals, all of the reptiles and small animals you can see at petsmart.. there's nothing exciting about chinchillas , ferrets, milk and corn snakes , typical pythons, chickens ? , goats, parakeets they're trying to pass as budgies , cockatiels .. it's more like a small farm.. compared to all the places we've been to this place is really sad, more than half the cages were empty. . no macaws, nothing special..
Not a huge selection of animals but very creative and interactive
This is a great zoo for kids of all ages. It is very hilly so be prepared to walk up and done a lot hills, or pay $2 a person for the golf cart shuttles that run around. The food is not bad. Great animal exhibits. You can feed (for a fee) many of the animals. Feeding the giraffes is always a hit with the kids. Glad we joined as members.
Beautiful atmosphere, awesome knowledgeable staff, and hanging with the wallabys is my favorite, make sure to visit Kia, Bailey, and Bentley they're so chill!!
This place was great! Definitely enjoyed the sights.
This a different experience from the other zoo's been close to the giraffs and feeding them is a great experience, I love it.
I have been in many zoos but this one has a special place in my heart. Nested over mountains, nice weather well maintained gardens, nicely kept animals. Clean and beautiful. Did I mentioned was very affordable?
I enjoyed Cheyenne Mountain Zoo even more than the Denver Zoo. If you have little kids I would recommend bringing or renting a stroller. There are tons of hills to climb.
Such a neat place, beautiful scenery and the animal exhibits great!
We went because we love the giraffes they were so cute
These giraffes made my day. Don t forget to feed them.
Awesome zoo! There is a reason the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is on the best zoo's in America every year. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The wide range of animals is amazing. The interactive portions of the zoo are second to none.
The food is honestly the best food at any attraction in the state.
The restrooms and the zoo itself are clean.
I have been to a lot of zoos in the country and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is my favorite.
Do your research! The zoo does not get money from outside sources. Members, visitors, sponsors, and donations keep it running.
We love this zoo! The atmosphere is very different from any other zoo we have been to. The whole zoo is on the side of a mountain so there is lots of walking up and down hills. That also contributes to feeling more like you are in nature and less like a concrete jungle. Some of the highlights for the kids were feeding the giraffes and the skyride.
Great zoo! Just a little disappointed that the billboard said 'penguins and hippos 2019' and it's still not ready. I do understand it's still 2019 but its October and the sign has been up all year. Also, disappointed that exhibits starting closing an hour before the zoo closed.
Awesome place! I loved it. There's a lot to enjoy. Go with plenty of time that's for sure, totally worth it though. You also get to feed a few different animals for a small price. :)
Such an amazing experience even in this time of Covid! One heck of a zoo!!
Great place for the little ones, and adult.you can feed giraffes and interact with most of the animals.
Love the zoo! Be sure to come in the future they're building a new penguin and hippo exhibit!
I have been visiting cheyenne mountain zoo for 25 years and it has always been great but the changes made recently with the hippos and penguins is wonderful. The only thing to remember is that this zoo is a hike, as it is literally on a mountain. Expect to be pooped afterward. Great staff and have never had anything but a good time there.
We have been to multiple zoos throughout the US and this was hands down our families favorite! Its built into the side of a mountain that makes it unique but the fun doesn't stop there! Some of the exhibit areas have animals freely roaming amongst the grounds AND you can feed the giraffes! Oh and did I mention that there is a sky ride/chair lift that gives your legs a break and opportunity to get a bird's eye view of the zoo and the surrounding city?! My kids are still talking about all the fun they had. We will definitely be back
Zoo staff is amazing the animals all looked very happy
It was wonderful i just wish they had some more outdoor places
Dress lightly but bring a light jacket too. Wear comfortable hiking type shoes. Enjoyed it but be fit to walk it.
Had a great time here. Staff was pretty active. The 3 hours I was there, I paid $3 to feed giraffes (some stupid woman cut me in the line, but the lady selling the lettuce very nicely gave me double lettuce to make it up to me), paid $1 to feed some budgies, watched the alligators get fed, had a cheeseburger at the zoo restaurant which was expensive but tasted good, and bought a souvenir coffee mug at the gift shop. Missed out on feeding the goats (they have specific feeding times), seeing the wolves (they were hiding pretty well), and buying a funnel cake (cart was closed fsr). Entry is a bit expensive, but if you're not going every week or anything crazy like that, it's not much different from going to the movie theater. Hippo exhibit was the only one being worked on, so didn't get to see them, but not a huge loss I guess. The layout is very straightforward and the map they give you when you pay for entry is pretty good, so it's hard to get lost. They've got bathrooms practically every 5ft, and all the ones I used were very clean and had no lines, but they all had air dryers instead of paper towels which was kinda bleh. All in all it was fun though, as long as you don't mind little kids running around everywhere, and standing in a couple lines here and there for extra stuff.
Love this zoo wish I was closer to go more often! Took my 1 yr old daughter here for the first time and she really enjoyed it even feed the giraffes ( wasn't to sure about it though)
This is an exilerating expirience to meet all these beautiful creatures
I've been 3 or 4 times and the kids always love it. Great one-on-one encounters with giraffes, turtles, chickens, and goats. The mountainside walkways are good exercise, but beware if you are bringing older or disabled family members. It can get tiring!
I was impressed with how helpful the staff are. Also, they are disability acessible with ramps and lifts on thier golf carts. Just a great inclusive place for everyone!
Drove 400 + miles to see it ! We'll worth the drive...wish we'd allowed more time..a must see ! Will return !
We love this zoo! Always so many educational things for the kids. I'd give five stars if the annual passes didn't cost so much. I'd also suggest not purchasing the lift pass- not that great. It was worth going up once for the view.
Not many animals. Sometimes one , sometimes just a statue inside the enclosure. Save your money
Lovely zoo, they have a sky lift and great views of Colorado. It is a hike since you're climbing up but they provide shuttles.
A little small, but a cool place! You can pet the giraffes and wallabees! Great family place!
This by far has been the best zoo my family and I have gone to! Animals are taken care of great and love how they have personal interactions with the animals all over the zoo!
My brother and I purchase family passes each year. The staff is professional and efficient. The animals seem well treated and lively. In addition, the zoo puts on multiple events each year that keep us coming back for more. They do a run through the exhibit, a Halloween themed event, a light show, and much more. If you are not a frequent visitor to this particular establishment, I would recommend the bald eagle display. They are such a majestic and powerful creature. It's inspiring to see our nations bird that close up and personal. The see otters and lions are my brother's chosen favorites. Honestly, it's all fun to look at. Recently they had a baby wallaby, a baby lion, and a baby porcupine. All of them were on display and absolutely adorable. I highly encourage any animal lover to visit this zoo immediately!
Always love the zoo. Come prepared as it's on the side of the mountain. It's exposed to the elements and involves more climbing than an out of town visitor might expect. But it is definitely worth the effort.
Great zoo built on the side of a mountain! Massive giraffe enclosure!!! Curently they are building a new hippo and penguin exhibit which is going to be really really awesome.
One of our favorite spots to spend the day. Worth every penny of the annual membership
Exhibits were great, staff was nice, lots of pokestops
I've been multiple times. I went recently on a fairly cold day. There are so many places to step inside to see animals that I was never outside long enough to be freezing. I really enjoyed that aspect for cold visits
Such an amazing zoo! You can see almost every single animal up close and its in a breathtakingly beautiful location. Absolutely gorgeous. The animal enclosures are all spacious and the animals are well taken care of.
Single favorite part: feeding the giraffes. I made friends with a huge giraffe today and it was amazing. Do not miss!
This place is great. Be advised though it is a workout. It's on the side of a mountain folks. Which is part of what sets it apart from "flatland zoos". I think it's a plus. I'm disabled and it's doable. For those who need more help getting around they do have golf cart shuttles to help with the elevation changes. There's more stuff to do here than most folks will have energy for in a day. Especially if you're wrangling kids too. Family year pass is a great value if you plan on going more than once a year and have, well, a family. It pays for itself. You will want to come back for more so I recommend considering it.
