I gave this 2 stars because the parking was free and the sky ride was awesome.. the giraffe exhibit was also decent...
but the rest of the zoo was ABSOULELTY HORRENDOUS... the elephants have skin rott , the orangutans are matted up bad (see pics I posted) matting causes skin sores due to the skin not being able to breathe, working with exotics I've seen monkeys who've gotten shaved down due to the matting because they're not always able to groom themselves or have a mate to do it, like this one pictured was all by himself. .. They are so depressed in those TINY areas they have ... the elephant "play area" looks like a jail cell..
cement and bars... it's pretty sad... not to mention they're really under weight, African elephants should be around 16,000 pounds they're nowhere near that (posted pics) .. it's a cool concept to have a zoo in the mountains but at least take care of the animals.. Busch gardens in Florida has the same animals and there's such a difference in the appearance of the animals as well as the Bronx zoo in New York, sea world in Texas and many many other xhibits that I've been to around the world.. This is the saddest thing I've ever seen. these look sick . It sure doesn't seem like the money they make goes towards animal rehabilitation . one giraffe has a huge open sore on his knee . we won't be back nor would we recommend this place, but we do hope the animals get the proper care they need . hopefully the zoo gets a new owner. Not to mention the animals there are very basic... aside from the larger animals, all of the reptiles and small animals you can see at petsmart.. there's nothing exciting about chinchillas , ferrets, milk and corn snakes , typical pythons, chickens ? , goats, parakeets they're trying to pass as budgies , cockatiels .. it's more like a small farm.. compared to all the places we've been to this place is really sad, more than half the cages were empty. . no macaws, nothing special..
